Medieval Women Week || free day! ↬ Saint Radegund
Long before she founded her convent in Poitiers, Radegund expected to live out her days as a queen. She was born into the royal house of the Kingdom of Thuringia, in what is today central Germany. The precise year of her birth, as with so many events in her life, cannot be determined with certainty, but it fell in either the late 510s or, more likely, the early 520s. While she was still very young, Radegund lost both of her parents. Yet this tragedy was soon eclipsed by the downfall of her dynasty, and the slaughter of most members of her family, following an invasion by the Franks in 531. King Chlothar I took Radegund as his captive and later made her his bride. For several years, the young Radegund reigned as queen alongside the very man who had butchered many of her relatives, until Chlothar went one step further and caused her surviving brother to be killed. Following this unforgivable crime, Radegund took religious vows and, after living for a few years in a villa, she founded her grand convent in Poitiers during the 550s. There she remained, in pious devotion and ascetic self- denial, until her death in 587 (outliving Chlothar by more than a quarter century). In what might be considered her greatest single achievement, she obtained from the imperial court in Constantinople what were thought to be fragments of the ‘True Cross’, the wood used to crucify Jesus on the hill of Golgotha in Jerusalem. Facing down opposition from her local bishop, Radegund managed to have the relic placed within her convent, which subsequently acquired the name of ‘Holy Cross.’ — Radegund: The Trials and Triumphs of a Merovingian Queen by E.T. Dailey

French dignitaries and stars of stage, screen and TV will join at the Rivoli Theatre here tomorrow evening in a special ceremony marking the opening of "Les Miserables," and the reopening of the theatre.
Participating in the salute to the 150th anniversary of Victor Hugo's birth will be Jean F. Charvet, acting French Consul General in New York, and French United Nations representatives with guests from other international delegations.
Montague Salmon, managing director of the Rivoli Theatre here, will be breaking bread with representatives of the French government and other distinguished guests at the opening of "Les Miserables" on Broadway today, and such a loaf of bread ! It took 10 of Hanscom's bakers 14 hours to ferment and mix the gigantic loaf of French bread, which measures eight feet long, weighs 30 pounds and required three hours baking time. Experts estimate it would require an average American four months to consume the loaf, but an average Frenchman, such as Jean Valjean, who was condemned to the galleys for the theft of a loaf of bread, might eat this enormous loaf in a single month.
Also in attendance at the premier were actors Dan Dailey, Constance Smith, Jayne Meadows, “Gregory,” and Kyle Macdonnell. Assuming this is the same premier event, the photos above show Gene Raymond and Jeanette MacDonald (left), Richard Barthelmess and Jessica Stewart Sargent (middle), and Joan Bennett and Gene Markey (right). It’s a huge shock to both Eva and Zach. The same day they welcome their daughters into the world, both Skylar and Miko pass away. They’d been so excited to be grandmas and watch the twins grow up. Now Zach was left alone without the guidance of his mothers. Even Eva, who had been welcomed into the family with open arms was feeling lost.

She chosen not to get a pet this year made in 5th year. Before return back Private Drive 4 until school Start in September 1, 1991.
It wasn't known very well but I discover a couple years ago that the Potter family aren't light oriented like every one believe them all to them the Potter dark grey oriented family but their are some who chosen to side with the light that not many know that the Potter are dark grey oriented wizarding family and not Even the Great Albus Dumbledore know the true oriented of the Potter family since Violet was one of the rare Potter born to have Light oriented magic unlike her elder sister Athanasia. But it was well known to Dark and Grey oriented wizarding Family.
1 week later
(Let's pretend Violet's eyes are lime green)
Violet Potter and Athanasia Potter both ready for Hogwarts they are already in the station they try to find platform 9¾ when Athanasia Potter
(Pretend her eyes are Emerald Green)
Accidently found it luckly she quickly got bearing before she could fall to the ground. By then she already in the middle of the term of her Online Collage.
Violet Potter end up sorted in Griffindore like both our parents but I got sorted in Slytherin like our grandmother Dorea Potter née Black. She became friends with Draco Malfoy, Theo Nott, Blasie Zabini, Daphne Greengrass, and Tracy Davis. And her friends are the only one who seem to notice Athanasia's unique eyes which look like the most beautiful Emerald Jewel they ever so.
During the Holiday Athanasia to leave Hogwarts and travel back to Japan since she completely forgot to buy herself new clothes since her old ones has gotten smaller and going to Magical china to buy the shoes she wanted. She also finish her first tearm of Collage online.
Before the morning of Christmas day the Potter account manager call forth the missing heirloom of the Potter family which has been past down from first born to child for generation the invisible cloak
Albus Dumbledore was hoping to give the Cloak to the youngest Potter so he took it out from the Potter vault but the cloak call back to vault before Christmas morning, before Violet even saw it.
A week later...
(Athanasia is wearing this loli dress)
(Wearing this on her feet)
Before returning Hogwarts after the holiday.
4 years later...
Athanasia Rhea Potter and her younger twin sister Violet Lilian Potter enter their 4th year and last year Athanasia's godfather Sirius Black broke out of azkaban last year to Save Violet from the real traitor of the Potter family and he died saving those "Golden Trio" Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Violet Potter from Remus Lupin's wolf form from attacking them it didn't help anything that he was unexpectedly surrounded dementor and end up lossing his souls along side Violet's own godfather Remus Lupin. Violet Potter still feeling Guilty for unknowingly causing the death of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin. It's the catalyst that made the Potter twins to break contact from one another completely.
This year I heard from my cousin and friend Draco Malfoy who heard it from his father that Hogwarts would be canceling Quidditch and Hosting a Tri-wizarding tournament so their would be two other school going in Hogwarts this year.
(Athanasia's wearing this dress)
(Athanasia's wearing this shoe)
During the Hogwarts Express.
2 days After the student of Dumstrang and Beauxbatons arrive they had the feast before bring out the Goblet of Fire and the professor put alot of security and put prevent under-age witches and wizard from entering the tri-wizard tournament. By then every one who wanted to enter already put their name in the goblet.
It wasn't long before the champion of the tri-wizard tournament were selected the first was the champion of Dumstrang is... Viktor Krum, the champion of Beauxbatons is... Fleur Delacour and the Champion of hogwarts is... Cedric Diggory. The three champion was made to enter another room when the Goblet of Fire chosen another which suprise everyone when they already has the three champion and the last name to be call out was the unexpected one at that it's non-other than Violet Lilian Potter herself.
Which the student of Hogwarts didn't believe for a secound that Violet didn't put her name at the Goblet. So they turn their back at her like always everytime some thing gose wrong yet Violet still hasn't gotten use to it by now. The hufflepuff house were the more furious than any house in Hogwarts.
The first task the champion are required to do were to retrieve a golden egg
from a nesting Dragon that are protecting it, which is quite dangerous I'm suprise that Violet even survive facing nesting dragon who are protecting their eggs, even if she berly escape being mull by Hungarian Horntail if the dragon tamers didn't Calm down dragon.

Who was Orion Black? (Pt 8) Orion Black x Female!Reader
A/N: I wanted to explore Sirius’s childhood more in a non-traditional sense and give Orion and Walburga some interesting character development. This takes place after Sirius has broken out of Azkaban. Although this is a reader insert in parts, it is not the main focus and some chapters will have little or no mention of the reader. I have also altered the year Walburga was born to be 1940 instead of 1925 as it states in cannon (this is my fanfic and I’ll do what I want with the characters that are in it). Similarly, in some of the chapters to come, I already know I will upset some people with the way I portray Sirius and Walburga’s relationship - remember everyone is entitled to portray fictional characters as they want in their fanfics and if you disagree, please write your own. JKR's bigotry and opinions are not welcome here nor supported.
Masterlist Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 (Part 8) Part 9
Now or Never
By the time Sirius had reached his family home, the pouring rain had turned to sleet. He was thankful that Kreacher had lit the fires in his absence, the warmth and orange glow allowed Sirius to feel slightly at ease. Until…
“Decided to come back then?” The cold voice of Walburga bounced through the halls. When Sirius didn’t reply, she continued. “Your half-breed friend came. Left a letter for you on the kitchen table.”
Instead of doing what she expected, Sirius calmly and quietly made his way up the stairs.
“Where are you going?!” Walburga shrieked. “Talk to me!!”
Sirius quietly closed the door to his childhood bedroom. He caught sight of himself in the mirror for the first time in weeks. He somehow looked worse than when he broke out of Azkaban. “Well, this just won’t do.” He muttered to himself. “Kreacher!”
***
The next morning, Sirius lounged opposite the portrait, legs crossed, tea in one hand and Dailey Prophet in the other whilst he waited for Walburga to wake up. Stone-cold sober and ready. He had read the letter Remus had left for him to fill in some of the blanks regarding Y/N L/N – most surprising as Sirius hadn’t asked for Remus’s help, but it was welcomed nonetheless.
She was born (DD) (MM) 1932. She grew up in (insert country) and attended (insert wizarding school). Once she finished school, she worked for the British Ministry of Magic as a Court Scribe for the Wizengamot. Y/N met Orion in the Spring of 1953 and they were married on the 29th of February 1956. She died on the 31st of July 1960 - it was this fact that Sirius found the most troubling, but he knew it to be true as Remus had secured a copy of her death certificate. Sirius had assumed that Y/N must have died very early into the marriage she shared with Orion but no… in fact they were still married when Sirius was born. In Remus’s digging, he had found that she had given birth in 1959 but the records about her child were not available for him to view as he was not a relative of the deceased.
Sirius set out to find his birth certificate, but it wasn’t where all the other documents were. He had found everyone else’s but not his nor a copy of Y/N death certificate in the book that held the rest. Sirius had drawn his own conclusion to this scenario, but he wanted it confirmed. Therefore, he was waiting for the woman he had believed to be his mother immortalised in paint to wake up. She was the one to know.
“You’re up early.” Walburga’s voice broke the silence that filled the room.
“Yes, my godson is coming for the holidays and I want to make sure I am in the habit of being presentable while he is here.” Sirius said courtly. He placed the paper down on the coffee table before him. “I also have some matters I wish to discuss with you.”
“Oh, you do; do you?” She matched his formal tone.
“Quite.” He drew his lips into his mouth before taking a sip of his tea.
“Let me guess. More about Y/N L/N.”
“Well, I would prefer that you refer to my mother as Black from now on.” Sirius said blankly. There was no emotion on his face as he took another sip of his tea.
Walburga attempted to hide the surprise on her face. “I am your mother.” She said a little too quickly.
“You can stop lying to me now. I know the truth. Unless you expect me to believe that my father – who loved his first wife so dearly, to your admission – had an affair with his cousin.” Walburga was staring at Sirius wide-eyed and mouth slightly agape. “I didn’t think so. I know she died on the 31st of July 1960; I was born on the 3rd of November 1959. Y/N married Orion on the 29th of February 1956. You were right when I was sixteen. I wasn’t your son. In fact, I never was, and you spent the last thirty-five years lying to me.”
He could visibly see Walburga’s chest contract with every breath. Sirius set his mug down on the table and uncrossed his legs, leaning forward he clasped his hands together and rested his elbows on his knees. “You know, growing up I never knew what you meant when you said you’d given up so much to raise me. I always assumed it was because you were so young. You would’ve been eighteen when you would’ve fallen pregnant with me, nineteen when you would’ve given birth. But it was never that. You were nineteen, called back from Merlin-knows-where to raise an eight-month-old baby that wasn’t even yours.”
Sirius’s eyes locked onto his tea as he nodded. “I wasn’t an easy child by any means. None of it was easy on you either though, was it?” He looked up at the portrait to see tears welling in her eyes. “You had so much responsibility put on you. A grieving husband that was starting to develop alcohol dependency, a baby, and then the pressure to get pregnant as soon as possible because that’s what the noble house of Black expects of its women. I can’t begin to imagine it.” He looked back at his tea when she hid her face in her hands. “I don’t blame you for blaming me, you know. Doesn’t make what you did to me growing up any better or justify it, but I understand it now.”
“Sirius, I’m so sorry.” She choked out. “No more lies. There’s no point in any of it now that you know the truth.” She swallowed thickly. “Ask me anything.”
“What was she like?” Sirius suddenly realised how Harry must feel having never known Lily. It was like a new hole opened in him that was never there before or maybe had had always known… growing up wishing for a different mother – his mother.
“She was a pleasant girl. I only met her a few times at family gatherings, the wedding, and I visited shortly after you were born with my mother. She adored you, as did your father. It gave me hope that I might be able to find what Orion had, finding someone you enjoy being with. My parents didn’t love each other, they had a unique friendship, a steady companionship but not love. Seeing Orion and Y/N was the first marriage I had seen that had love and was tolerated by the rest of the family.”
Sirius nodded before continuing his next question. “How did she die?”
Walburga took a deep breath. “She was hit by a muggle car. It was a young man driving the car, he was going too fast and lost control around a sharp corner. Both Orion and Y/N were hit, you were… you were at home with their house-elf – Norey, she was reappointed Hogwarts after. Your father was never the same after, he went over the bonnet; it was frightening really when I saw him after. If you had seen him at the time, you’d be surprised with how few scars he ended up with and how well he recovered considering. Your mother, she went under the car, she wasn’t as fortunate – she died before help arrived. Your father managed to get to her but… I can’t… I’m not going into any more detail than that.”
Sirius wasn’t prepared to hear that. He sucked his lips in once more and started to rub his face. “And dad’s drinking? When did that start?”
“I don’t want to say immediately but it started getting excessive just before the funeral so a few weeks after he left the hospital. Orion’s drinking was varied, you could say – he would get worse and better in a vicious cycle. While your father was still in hospital, your grandfather Arcturus moved you into here. That way he knew you were properly looked after. You were the first and only male heir at the time and that man would’ve given anything to keep you well looked after. Orion wanted to stay in the house he and Y/N had purchased in Aylesford, but Arcturus wanted him back in London after the funeral. Orion wasn’t allowed to see you until he moved back so, he was forced.” Walburga admitted.
“Why was it kept a secret? I was still the legitimate heir due to their marriage. It’s not like she wasn’t from a good enough family. There was no need to hide this.” Sirius questioned, looking up at the woman who had raised him.
Walburga offered him a sad smile. “Arcturus wanted to make sure he had his male heir. He thought it best if you grew up thinking I was your mother and that I have a child as soon as possible to make it more believable for you. After her death, her family believed integration was a necessity to make us more aware of muggle advances in technology and develop new protection methods from it; they advocated for more integration despite what happened to their daughter… Arcturus saw this as a reason to dissolve the family tie Orion had created and you solidified. He thought if you knew you had a family that believed in the integration of muggles into magical society and had exposure to her family, you would turn your back on the Black family traditions.”
“What of her family? Did they never ask of me? Or write?” Sirius was confused as to how they had never contacted him.
Walburga looked increasingly uncomfortable by this question but answered it anyway. “That requires a very complicated answer. You see, Y/N’s family didn’t blame the muggle driving the car for her death… they blamed your father for not doing something to save her. They tried to claim that Orion was an unfit parent for not attempting healing charms. We can all say what we would do in those moments, but we don’t know until we’re in them – to suggest he had sinister intentions because he was distraught, injured, and involved in the accident himself – was cruel. He was blaming himself before they said anything. I can’t imagine how he must’ve felt during that.” Walburga continued. “They tried to take you away entirely, but Arcturus wouldn’t have it. It was decided that if you were to remain with us, you needed another family member to take responsibility. Arcturus couldn’t take the role due to his demanding working hours, and Orion couldn’t as he was still recovering. It was decided that I was to return immediately to become your carer. Eventually, it was ruled that you’d stay with your father and me. Due to the destress your mother’s family had put on the situation and the immediate family stance of full integration, it didn’t put them in good stead with the Department of the Protection of Child Wizards and Witches. It was ruled that limited communication was preferential. From my understanding, they had correspondence with Arcturus. I don’t know any more than that.”
“Over time, a rift developed in her family due to the situation. Each side becoming extremists differently; joining Voldemort or wanting full integration – both were very dangerous in mine and your father’s opinion, Arcturus… well, you already know what side of her family he agreed with and thus those were who he would speak to. Some of them wanted muggles to be educated on the existence of magic so it could be used in their presence, it’s a terrifying concept when you think of how we are portrayed to them – muggles fear us and when muggles are frightened or threatened, they’re violent. Very risky business if you ask me. They appealed the decision, but the department decided that leaving you with the L/N’s could put you in danger due to their stances on integration. You must understand, that it was a different time, most of the wizards and witches involved had seen at least one muggle world war – that kind of fear doesn’t disappear. Your father and I tried to shield you from those worlds but as you got older, and another wizarding war was drawing closer - it was almost impossible. That’s when the obsession to keep you here only grew worse. We didn’t want either of you boys involved in any of it, but we lost you both to it in the end.” Walburga concluded.
Sirius was feeling very overwhelmed by all the information he’d just been given. “That’s enough for today, I think.” Sirius said as he rose from where he was seated and began to exit when Walburga started talking again.
“Sirius, I never wanted this for you. I wanted to do right for you, but I was so young and angry. By the time I realised I had taken it too far you were packing your things to leave for the Potter’s, and I was too prideful to ask you to stay. That’s why I tried so hard to get you a trial, to try to get you out of there… out of Azkaban but I couldn’t. I failed you repeatedly. I didn’t fully understand the repercussions of my actions until I was old and alone at Orion’s funeral. I couldn’t even bury my own son. The only son I had left was you, but I knew you’d never forgive me… I knew because I wouldn’t have forgiven me either.”
Sirius didn’t say anything. He just continued to walk out of the parlour toward Orion office.

Hi, I think you had a post with all the birthdays and anniversaries dates listed. Could you post it again please, I can't find it
I don’t think I had one for anniversaries but here is a bday post. BTW I also added in Mac’s wife. I know her birth month and the day but the year is a question mark. I know Nicole’s modeling thing says she is in her thirties but I think she is prob 1987 birth year maybe but that is just given the age of her younger sister(the age her sister was in 2017 I believe from an ig post which would put Nicole as mid thirties I think or close to mid thirties)

Delta Dailey for @gothaliens‘ Judith Ward
[Self-assured | Ambitious | Good]
Two short years ago Dianna Dailey was a household name as the promising model who started her career as a young teen before suddenly ending her career on her eighteenth birthday with a viral tweet.
I appreciate all that you have done to support me the past few years but it’s time for me to close this chapter and stop being an incomplete version of myself. I love you all and we’ll see each other someday in the future.
On their nineteenth birthday there was a new shorter tweet accompanied by a photo sporting much shorter hair and a new style.
Told ya we’d be seeing each other again, hope you missed me. -Delta
Delta worked hard for over a year and they’ve finally overcome the criticism from both fans and haters alike saying that their change was just for publicity.
The only thing people are left wondering now is why Delta wants to be on The Bachelorette. Is it to find love or do they want a leg up in their career?
20 years old
Non-binary (assigned female at birth)
They/Them pronouns
Style is definitely more androgynous than gender-fluid
Lives in Del Sol Valley

Hello! Do you have any book recs?
BELOVED ANON. Thanks for this ask, and for your patience in waiting for an answer. I do, in fact, have some book recs for you!
Fiction:
If you haven’t read Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Quartet (My Brilliant Friend + the sequels), you should. They’re a wonderful depiction of female friendship, devotion, and competition, set against the background of a vibrant neighborhood life and a country undergoing the vast transformation of the second half of the c20, and Ferrante’s language is just SO absorbing.
Another novel that takes female friendship as a main theme, but also investigates creative partnership, childhood trauma + art, and class mobility, is Kayla Rae Whitaker’s The Animators. I read this one almost a year ago, and I still keep thinking about it!Anon, if you haven’t read The Secret History, you should read The Secret History. Then, if you’re like “hmmm, I liked that, and I would like more stories of close groups of friends doing passionate, stupid, wildly ill-destined shit, based on their own idealistic convictions” - then you should pick up Caite Dolan-Leach’s We Went To The Woods, which embraces the whole “I want to start a commune with my friends” trope head-on. (This isn’t a perfect novel - but I still enjoyed it.) Alternatively, if you were like, “hmmm, I liked that, and I would like another emotionally-tense campus novel set in the 1990s,” try Elaine Choi’s My Education. If you want a campus novel, but one that will simply make you laugh your head off, try Julie Schumacher’s Dear Committee Members, which is written entirely in the form of recommendation letters from an increasingly-unhinged English professor. (The male POV character is hardly free from sin, though, so keep that in mind if that’s a problem for you.)
Anything that Miriam Toews has written, particularly if you’re interested in gender, family, rural life, religion, mental illness, grief... etc etc etc. Trigger warning a mile long on most of her books, so do your research, but she’s SUCH a good writer.
Think that short stories might be more to your preference? I cordially invite you to pick up any one of Karen Russell’s collections and get your mind blown - I can vouch for Vampires in the Lemon Grove and Orange World personally. If you’re into the magical realism that Russell brings, but want a slightly different tone, Alice Hoffman’s many, many, MANY novels (including Practical Magic) might be your cup of tea. And if you like magical realism, and love the “school story” genre of Harry Potter... but want it crossed with a noir murder mystery and the themes of grief and dysfunctional family - I really, really enjoyed Sarah Dailey’s Magic for Liars.
Do you like (and/or are willing to tolerate) queer themes, tragedy, nostalgia, snobbery, and Catholicism? You should read Brideshead Revisited. Evelyn Waugh was a total ass, but a beautiful writer nonetheless. If you were with me on the queer themes, but would really rather do without all the rest of the stuff I named above - try Casey McQuiston’s Red, White, and Royal Blue for the delightful fluffy escapism of a contemporary queer romance that takes place in a political AU where Trump doesn’t seem to exist, and that is CLEARLY written by someone with a lot of experience in fandom.
Non-Fiction:
If you were into the whole female friendship angle that I was pitching above, and want to follow that into the realm of non-fiction - pick up Deborah Tannen’s You’re the Only One I Can Tell: Inside the Language of Women’s Friendships. Tannen is a sociolinguist specializing in gender, among other things, and all of her work is so good and so interesting! And if linguistics is your thing, I would encourage you to pick up Gretchen McCullough, Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language - but if you get your hands on it straight away, you’re going to have to let me know how it is, because my copy hasn’t gotten into the library yet!
Charles King, Gods of the Upper Air: How A Circle of Anthropologists Reinvented Race, Sex, and Gender in the Twentieth Century is a great account of the emergence of the modern discipline of anthropology, centering on the circle around Franz Boas at Columbia that included Margaret Mead and also (I had not realized this!) Zora Neal Hurston. King does a great job charting the intellectual history here, but also charting these individuals’ fascinating lives and complicated relationships.
The two books that have taught me the most about the birth of the modern conservative movement culture in the US (1960s onward) are Bethany Moreton, To Serve God and Wal-Mart: The Making of Christian Free Enterprise, and Lisa McGirr, Suburban Warriors: The Origins of the New American Right.
And finally, anon and others, if you want to read along *with* me, two books of feminist cultural criticism in late capitalism that are either literally in my book pile or in my holds queue: Darcy Lockman, All the Rage: Mothers, Fathers, and the Myth of Equal Partnership, and Jia Tolentino, Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion.Hope you find something that interests you here - please don’t hesitate to let me know what you think if you pick any of these up!
#asked and answered#lovely anon#book recs#books wonderful books!#yeah i know this got long#thanks for your patience and/or your scrolling#i'm gonna go ahead and tag this#summer 2019 book recs#maybe i'll make this a thing? lmk

Needs to survive
A human needs his or her basic needs in life to survive” and your survival” depending on the life of others to live on.
We may think we control or dailey action in life" but no, we are controlled by a few” whose only in controlling others do unto us as they please.
Life and death; after birth become joy" pain" and sadness, when the things you do have an effect on the people you see everyday.
Life is a program; and without that program you're following, you seem not to fit in that circuit board to give that power up level.
We can't choose what's right for us; others do, rich, or poor, have nothing in common but are alike to speak.

365 Day Movie Challenge (2018) - #35: Meet Me in Las Vegas (1956) - dir. Roy Rowland
There’s not much reason to spend two hours watching Meet Me in Las Vegas unless you’re a humongous fan of one or both of the film’s stars, glamorous Cyd Charisse and good-natured Dan Dailey. Both entertainers do great dance work in the film, although their acting and chemistry unfortunately leave an awful lot to be desired.
I generally enjoy Dan Dailey in anything because he was a wonderful dancer, a decent singer and overall a good-natured personality on film. Cyd Charisse, for her part, was perhaps not among Hollywood’s most inspiring thespians - “she was the world’s worst actress,” as my mother has often put it - but I have never minded that. She was so incredibly beautiful and such an icon of dance that just looking at her is a treat. The plot of Meet Me, in which ballerina Maria Corvier (Charisse), who is the definition of “all work and no play,” falls for gambling rancher Chuck Rodwell (Dailey), is so loosely designed that barely anything happens. Conflict is almost nonexistent, despite the presence of burlesque queen Kelly Donavan (Cara Williams) as one of Chuck’s former gal pals. In typical movie-musical fashion for the era, Kelly isn’t in love with Chuck and Maria’s jealousy is based on a misunderstanding. It’s interesting to me that Maria is presumably completely sexually inexperienced; I wonder if we’re supposed to assume that the character is younger than Cyd Charisse was in real life at the time - either 33 or 34, depending on her date of birth.
The best reason to see the film, besides leggy Cyd at her dancing peak, is the starry supporting cast. In roles big and small, you can see Paul Henreid, Agnes Moorehead, Lili Darvas, Jim Backus, Oskar Karlweis, George Chakiris and Benny Rubin. There are also musical numbers performed by the likes of Lena Horne, Frankie Laine, Jerry Colonna, the Four Aces and Japanese teen singing sensation Mitsuko Sawamura, as well as appearances by dancers Liliane Montevecchi, John Brascia and Marc Wilder (who makes for a fantastic Prince Charming in a ballet sequence), not to mention cameos by Peter Lorre, Debbie Reynolds and Frank Sinatra, among others.

An Informative Peak Into The Suicidal Mind
As you have probably seen from everyday life, suicide is seen in a negative light. We seldom get a perspective from the people who commit suicide. I however, have thought it through very well and have orgonized my thoughts. If I ever get the courage to commit, it wont be without writing a book I have planned on writing on the subject. Life means nothing, I have no place in the world, and all hope is gone. All stereotypical phrases used most commonly in suicide notes, but if you look deeper, you will find that they have a greater signifigance than what we typically take from it. Lets start with the idea that life has no meaning. We are born a clean pallet, its a fact that we do not have a purpose in being alive. You can easily be born with nothing and die with nothing, there is no mystical force that says otherwise. You can however be born into a circumstance that allows certain timelines to take place. People like me are often born drastically under privelaged than most weather it be low income, social disadvantage, or broken family life. This leads to the next point, having no place in the world. Without any hollywood bullshit or disney fantasies clouding your mind, life it pretty much birth, education/conditioning, slavery, and death. Luckily, we now have the oppertunity to decide just how shitty we want out slave life to be, this is done in the education/conditioning stage. Some people are born without the ability to take in knowlage as well as others. The system knows this and wants go weed out the ones they dont see fit in the form of required knowlage. The most artistic mind can be prevented from ever aquiring a career simply with a math or science class. A small portion of society is artistic minded, therefore the system cannot profit off of them, this is why they are pushed into lives they dont want to live. Look at the world we live in, this is clearly a fact. In order to be an artist of value to the system, you must be pretty. Sex sells, this is the truth weather you want to beleive it or not. You never see an ugly pop star. At this point we become slaves, wheather were enslaved comfortibly or not. At some point we finally realize the circular pattern that we are living in and realize my final point, all hope is gone. This is when those who survived this long realize that they were damned from the start. If its not clear, life is only promised to a portion of the world. You are either smart or pretty. Although a small population was born into a timeline where they were hopeless to begin with. These are the ones you hear about who either attempt or commit suicide. Understand that some people are not meant to be alive. I personally find it selfish to keep these people from finding their only shot at true happiness. So just remember this: suicide is natural, not everyone is capable of being happy. Accept that and let life sort them out.
(Author Note: This is strictly informative for the sake of others to get a psychological understanding of the subject of suicide from a suicidal person. I do not condone suicide, nor to I take reponsibility for it. I have only attempted once and I am coping with these thought dailey. As of right now I do not plan on commiting suicide but I would still like to inform people of my opinion on behalf of others like me, wheather or not they have commited enough. My advice is to simply try to fix it, although this can be extremely difficult, it can supposedly work. Best of luck, I hope we can all get through this together.)

His Yoke Is Easy from The Messiah by George Friderich Handel, The Academy of St. Martin In the Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner: I've posted before about one of my most influential choral conductors, who once told me that, "Handel was a German who wrote Italian operas for the English."
He meant far more than English audiences.
It is beyond curious that a race of people so determined to avoid awkwardness that they make every moment more awkward, should interpret this portion of The Messiah with such unfettered joy, and defiance.
Speaking of awkward, the interwebs wil tell you that the lyric here reads, "His burthen is light". But, what is a "burthen"? Is it some kind of burqa for childbearing women? For newborn babies? Or, is it simply some rotten ingredient in the word salad of some semi-literate gatekeeper?
Who knows? Maybe the English was baroque-en.
The truth is, if you want any sense of what these lyrics mean, you have to go to the source -- Jesus Himself, as quoted in Matthew 11:28-30.
Now that you get it, click the link, and crank it up. For your sweater-knitting auntie, for your bullet-journaling frenemy, for every "25 Things ..." blog post, for the Nazis past and present, play this one loud.
Merry Christmas, Baby, Otis Redding: In a season that's so often about temporary glitz and empty promises, it's good to remember that it's not Christmas unless it's got soul.
Redding doesn't bother to hide his anguish here. He's clearly thinking of other Christmases that weren't so merry, wondering if this one, too, will evaporate before his eyes. For someone like this, you shouldn't say it if you don't mean it.
What Child Is This, Paul Horn: With a choir of soprano, alto, and bass flutes, and a primitive octave splitter called a Multivider, jazz titan, Paul Horn (Chico Hamilton Quintet), created one of the least-known but most enduring holiday albums ever recorded.
The big reverb and parallel fifths would put this right at home on any Game of Thrones soundtrack, while the Scotch snaps in the bass give it a sort of traditional Christmas feel. But, his articulation -- so liquid he could almost be scatting -- puts the stamp of a jazzer all over this piece. The whole album is like this -- a heady brew of musical influences.
Christmas In Hollis, Run-D.M.C.: I'm hardly a connoisseur of this genre. What I do remember is this: While the media threatened us with nightmare images of wilding teens, and super predators, super-strengthened by crack, or angel dust, or ... whatever, Run-D.M.C. presented an almost-suburban story of naughty elves, a Christmas miracle, and as much traditional, Southern food as you could eat.
What followed years later was the discrediting of some doctoral candidate's super-predator theory, the acquittal of the so-called Central Park five, and the international exposure of Donald Trump, whose newspaper fanned the flames, as a liar, a bigot, and full-time attention-seeker.
Meanwhile, Run-D.M.C. are probably home for Christmas, rejoicing because they know exactly what's on the menu.
Drosselmeyer's Gifts from The Nutcracker, L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande conducted by Ernest Ansermet: Let's, once and for all, abandon the notion that The Nutcracker is merely bland, holiday fare for the kiddies. Russian culture -- about which Russia's president seems entirely clueless -- won't let you have that. And it shouldn't.
See, sometimes, we expect more than we should from mere human effort. Sometimes, gifts offer us more fear and frustration than uncomplicated joy.
These are probably good things to remember for those who celebrate the birth of someone who promised, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Christmastime Is Here, Vince Guaraldi Trio (above): Maybe it's that the melody starts on a note that begs to be resolved. Maybe it's the fact that they never quite hit the high notes on the head. In other words, maybe there was a method to Vince Guaraldi's madness.
None of that satisfactorily explains how a genius of cool jazz got a group of kids to deliver a performance suffused with melancholy.
Way back in 1965, The Vince Guaraldi Trio, and a handful of kids figured out how to say, in the language of music, exactly what Christmas means to some of us. I see you, Linus, and this performance gives me chills every time I hear it.
Gaudete, Steeleye Span: Ah, the 70s!
There's a corner of Twitter where people whose gravest concern was having zits for the Homecoming dance, tell themselves scary stories of How Bad It Was back then, assuming that all who read these dystopian fantasies not only Know What Is Meant, but agree wholeheartedly, with an accompanying shiver down their spines.
Personally, I liked it just fine when kids didn't kill other kids for shutting them out of the in crowd, and English folk rockers could sing a carol about Jesus's birth, a capella, in Latin, taking it to Number 1 on the charts, albeit in their home country.
Do They Know It's Christmas, Band Aid: When this single was released, I was deeply moved, as were many.
Older, ostensibly wiser friends strove to burst my bubble. They counseled that Band Aid's efforts were useless, that food sat rotting on the docks because the organizers hadn't the brains to do it right. Work harder, they said. Make money and spend it. There is nothing else. Your heroes are hopelessly filthy.
No.
See, we have no right to expect humans and human effort to be perfect. Purity culture was as ugly then as it is now.
There's more to life than getting and spending, and Band Aid proves it. The initial effort served as the springboard for major charitable projects by Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, and Bono -- efforts that continue to this day.
"We let in light, and we banish shade", the song goes. It's not just talking about flipping a switch.
Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem, Dailey and Vincent: Number One with a bullet -- or, maybe, it's a Bible. And why?
Because too many conservatives are dreading any kind of overtly-religious end to this countdown, even as they exploit the religious right in a last-ditch effort to grab more money, more power.
Forget about it.
See, physics may be the reason for the season, but Jesus is the reason Christians call it Christmas. All the ideological squeamishness (read: hypocrisy) on conservatives' part won't change that.
So, Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays -- take your pick. May the coming year give you enough courage to use the holiday greetings your conscience dictates, no matter who else is listening.

50 Years Ago Today, the Siege of Chicago, the Yippies predict the Future, and the Attack on Journalism is on
From 8/26/68 to 8/26/18 is 50 years, and it is the trajectory that starts with Nixon and ends up with Trump. The Democratic Party fielded Robert F Kennedy and Eugene McCarthy at the beginning of the affair (although only McCarthy made all the original caucuses, RFK late to the game, shot in LA), by the time the bystanders on Michigan Avenue were pushed through the plate glass windows of the Hilton into the bar, the official slate was Hubert Humphrey and Edmund Muskie, possibly the worst pair of candidates the Party ever produced. As a teach-in of one, I revisited a now-forgotten account, Norman Mailer’s Miami and the Siege of Chicago
While the work is considered a landmark of the New Journalism, along with more enduring practitioners like Didion, Thompson, and Wolfe, Mailer was largely absent from the actual battles in Grant Park, Michigan Avenue and the environs of the Ampitheater -- he at least has the decency to highlight the work of journalists who were, and mentions multiple times the role of not just Ginsberg, but the amazing team of Terry Southern, William Burroughs, Jean genet, and Ginsberg sent by Esquire magazine to cover the event, some of whom were tear-gassed.
That is the intro to this excerpt from Mailer’s book that connects the dots from Mayor Dailey (a Dem who took orders only from LBJ, who had announced he would not run for reelection) to today’s White House, where Press are enemies of the people......
“Next, the cops burst out of the woods in selective pursuit of news photographers. Pictures are unanswerable evidence in court. They’d taken off their badges, their name plates, even the unit patches on their shoulders to become a mob of identical, unidentifiable club swingers. …There is the scene at Henrotin Hospital with editors coming in to claim their wounded. Roy Fischer of the Chicago Daily News, Hal Bruno of Newsweek. Television guys who took a special clobbering waiting in the anteroom describing what happened and looking angry-eyed at the cops hanging around with the air of guys putting in a routine night. The counterrevolution had begun. It was as if the police had declared that the newspapers no longer represented the true feelings of the people.”
(photo courtesy of the Ginsberg Project)
Today, while I am not by any means a political geek by any means, and not particularly a news junkie, it is striking that the 50th anniversary of the most extreme political convention of the 20th century is upon us uncelebrated by a Democratic party leadership that has lost its mojo and is floating adrift to the most important mid-terms of at least the past 50 years.
It’s time to bring back the Yippie party, here’s the full platform....note that certain items have been delivered, including cable TV, abortion rights, and legalized marijuana:
YIPPIE!
Lincoln Park
VOTE PIG IN 68
Free Motel “come sleep with us”
REVOLUTION TOWARDS A FREE SOCIETY: YIPPIE!
By A. Yippie
An immediate end to the War in Vietnam….
Immediate freedom for Huey Newton of the Black Panthers and all other black people. Adoption of the community control concept in our ghetto areas….
The legalization of marihuana and all other psychedelic drugs….
A prison system based on the concept of rehabilitation rather than punishment.
Abolition of all laws related to crimes without victims. That is, retention only of laws relating to crimes in which there is an unwilling injured party, i.e. murder, rape, assault.
The total disarmament of all the people beginning with the police. This includes not only guns, but such brutal devices as tear gas, MACE, electric prods, blackjacks, billy clubs, and the like.
The Abolition of Money. The abolition of pay housing, pay media, pay transportation, pay food, pay education, pay clothing, pay medical help, and pay toilets.
A society which works toward and actively promotes the concept of “full unemployment.” A society in which people are free from the drudgery of work. Adoption of the concept “Let the Machines do it.”
Elimination of pollution from our air and water.
10.Incentives for the decentralization of our crowded cities…encourage rural living.
11.Free birth control information…abortions when desired.
12.A restructured educational system which provides the student power to determine his course of study and allows for student participation in over-all policy planning….
13. Open and free use of media…cable television as a method of increasing the selection of channels available to the viewer.
14. An end to all censorship. We are sick of a society which has no hesitation about showing people committing violence and refuses to show a couple fucking.
15.We believe that people should fuck all the time, anytime, whomever they wish. This is not a program to demand but a simple recognition of the reality around us.
16. A national referendum system conducted via television or a telephone voting system…a decentralization of power and authority with many varied tribal groups. Groups in which people exist in a state of basic trust and are free to choose their tribe.
17.A program that encourages and promotes the arts. However, we feel that if the Free Society we envision were to be fought for and achieved, all of us would actualize the creativity within us. In a very real sense we would have a society in which every man would be an artist. …Political Pigs, your days are numbered. We are the Second American Revolution. We shall win. Yippie!

Blog Post #11 ; 11/7/17
I feel I really like this story so far. As I read, I found that the protagonist Ari reminds me Junior from “The Absolutely True Dailey…” because they have similar personality at some points. For instance, it seems that they both are realists rather than idealist and they both have only one friend who’s really close to them by now. Though, I prefer the friendship between Ari and Dante to Junior and Rowdy. It seems to be much healthier that the way how they respect each other and admit the way each one is as well. Yet, at some points, the sight Ari see Dante and his father, seems to be some sort of adoration and that makes me feel worried because it could be jealous someday and would break their friendship.
In add, I had been wondering what Ari means by saying “The problem with my life was that it was someone else’s idea.” (8) Although, later it appears that he meant his birth was his mother’s hope, which had never been his father’s, so Ari’s neither. At this point, I believe the way how Ari views his life is a kind of pessimistic, but it could be said that his character gradually starts changing after the encounter with Dante in a good way due to some interaction from him. So I would say I like the character arc of this story, which seems to let Ari to set his life as his own, not someone else’s idea.
