Stupid DSMP!Schlatt backstory headcanons that mean nothing to canon because nothing is canon anymore after the timeline reset and I’d like to think that somewhere my lore matters.

His dad left him and he had an alcoholic step dad. He left at 12 briefly and was raised by Philza for a few years until duty called and he was brought back at 15. He left for good at 18 to college and never came back.

He went to Columbia University (weirdly specific, don’t mind me) for a PhD in political science and a minor in law. This is where he met Ted, who was a film major, and his friend who would soon be Tubbo’s mom.

He got her pregnant in his early 20s, not long before they were supposed to graduate. They were safe but mistakes happen. Unfortunately, due to genetic issues, it was almost guaranteed that either the child or her would die. Schlatt begged her not to go through with the pregnancy. He didn’t want a close friend to die after a one night stand to test out a temporary crush. She decided not to have it terminated. He agreed to take care of it if she didn’t survive.

They graduated 9 months later. Tubbo was born as Tobias Schlatt. His mother died after she first held him. Schlatt went frantic, grabbing any doctor who would listen. Nothing helped. For the 2 days Tubbo was in the NICU, he did nothing but sit in silence and shock. Ted agreed to be the godfather and help raise the kid. When he was brought home he just held him in his arms and sobbed. He always blamed himself, never the innocent child he now had to take care of.

For the first 5 years of Tubbo’s life, everything seemed normal. Then it all caught up to Schlatt when Ted went to LA to help with a few projects he signed onto. He started drinking. He had casually before but now it was hard liquors almost every day. His paralegal work was overbearing with not enough pay to support everything he needed to pay for. He had enough sense to recognise he couldn’t let Tubbo live or see him like this. He called Philza for the first time in years and asked if he could take Tubbo. He agreed. They arranged that Schlatt would leave Tubbo in a box near Central Park and Phil would be there just a few seconds after to pick him up while Schlatt hid. He left his kid with the bee his mother bought him before he was born and never made contact again.

Lmao, this was just supposed to me a little list of facts but I ended up backstory dumping. Might do this again for other headcanons idk.

The brain fic I’m currently writing in my head is about this au where Quackity does a flawed form of revival on Schlatt. He’s zombie adjacent with no memories or much thought at all, completely head empty. But Quackity realizes he shows basic recognition for a few people (Tubbo and Wilbur at the very start) and can form basic sentences when talking to them. He realizes if he lets Schlatt have a conversation with those people he’ll slowly remember basic memories and emotions he had about the person before he died.

He talks to Wilbur and the anger he felt starts coming back. He talks to Tubbo and regret and sorrow starts bubbling up (yes in this au dadschlatt is real, no you can’t stop me). After he talks to them he starts recognizing people like Dream and Fundy. And this builds and builds until he can speak again, has most of his old personality back though mellowed down, and remembers all his social connections. And after he re-meets every person he used to know he finally recognizes Quackity.

I’m gonna release part four here shortly, but before I do I wanted to dive a little more into Quackity’s character for the au:

When he was in Schlatt’s cabinet, the Ram hybrid made it very clear that he did not want to see any kind of instinctual behaviors or hybrid traits from him or any other cabinet members. Fundy almost went into complete hiding due to it, but Tubbo and Quackity got the worst of it.

Tubbo in return simply stopped hiding his traits. There was no point, because it seemed like Schlatt was getting onto him for every little thing anyway. He simply stopped caring, especially after the festival. Everyone began to know him as Schlatt’s child who ran off when everything started going downhill, since he stopped hiding his own ram hybrid traits.

Quackity dealt with the full force of it in public and behind closed doors, and after a certain point completely started hiding anything that revealed him as a hybrid. Most people started thinking he was a normal human, except for the ones who knew him before that point. When his instincts do hit, thanks to that time, they hit hard.

If he starts panicking, his instincts start screaming that something is coming to hurt him and anyone he’s with and that he needs to get them out of there safely and asap. Even if he’s in a domestic setting, with no real danger anywhere near, he slips into an instinctual panic if he starts getting really bad anxiety.

He has not come clean to his fiancés or friends about what he dealt with in Schlatt’s cabinet, but after the next part his fiancés may get an inkling of an idea of it.

About a fic, I'm kind of a veeery inconsistent writer, and out of all my aus wannabees is the one with less of a "storyline" per se - it would likely be a collection of oneshots or twoshots if it ever gets written - so i cant really make any promises, but i Am working on it! eventually il probably cave and do a bullet point post like i did for deathless death but as for now there's just the art

I just spontaneously manifested an au for you. So yk how the whole not-Tommy's character arc is hanging onto Phil being kind and protective? Yeah so what if he actually got into a family where that wasn't the case? For the purposes of this au, it's DadSchlatt au. So yeah, Schlatt and Tubbo. And Tubbo gets replaced by the demon kid. And not-Tommy/Tubbo then proceeds to learn that apparently the blood connection doesn't, indeed, force parents to protect their children. What happens next? Also it'd be fun if not-Technoblade and not-Wilbur still get to sbi and how their story goes on there without not-Tommy.

“Tubbo” picked the mark because it was easier to hide if he was already meant to have spiraling horns. “Tommy” had never expected blood protection to go further than not actively attacking children for the most part, so it wasn’t a shock to him. To “Tubbo” indifference was still godly compared to what he went through in hell. His guard was slower to lower, but also he didn’t have those hackle raising moments of confused wariness compared to with Philza. It would still be a process of slowly learning he didn’t have to be bracing for the hit all the time, and there’d be a degree of finding safety in the cover. “Tubbo” didn’t take Tubbo to be loved, though, only to have a disguise to hide in to avoid the consequences of various heinous crimes. So it kinda went exactly according to plan. Schlatt wasn’t a vigilant guardian, and it was far easier to slip out and cause havoc than with the overbearing Philza. Even better, Schlatt seemed unphased with the violence beginning to plague the land, not drawing his kid closer like Philza would’ve. 

He’d expected the family to eventually notice. “Tubbo” wasn’t particularly convincing, and grew lax with the secret. Why didn’t Schlatt notice? Weeks, months, years, how did he not notice his kid was long gone? Did he not care? 

I’m not your real son. 

“Tubbo” was amused when he finally said it, all jagged teeth and cruel entertainment. An impulsive reveal; he wanted watch for the horror to crawl onto the man’s features.

And then Schlatt didn’t seem to remember the exchange the next morning, more concerned with his hangover. Or maybe he just really didn’t care. Either way was fine by “Tubbo”. He liked to toy with the idea “Father” might even like him better than Tubbo, given how passive and meek and pliant he’s been so long ago. Far less interesting than “Tubbo”. But either way Schlatt was useful, ensuring “Tubbo” was an expected, unremarkable piece of the village even as it plummeted into ruin at his hands.

Then one day, “Tubbo” grew bored. He simply walked off, never to be seen again. He didn’t kill Schlatt, blaming his sentimentality on the human having served his use. Because even neglected as he was, apathy was still the greatest kindness he ever knew. The demon integrated into the next family, and the next. Only briefly, once, did he wonder if Schlatt had even noticed “Tubbo’s” absence at all.

“Wilbur” and “Technoblade” were far far better imposters than “Tommy” and were scrambling as their delicate balance was bombarded. The ruse could go on for a very long time, not pressured and panicked about “Tommy” rocking the boat and killing enough people to scare Philza into becoming stricter and paranoid. They’d likely start getting along better, helping cover up for one another. “Wilbur” would additionally be intensive about being a good “brother” to the real Tommy, just like he’s desperate for Philza’s affection and attention. Overall they’re far more chill than “Tommy” and would be far less stressed. 

What eventually unravels the Not-Craft household in the OG is Philza’s unequal treatment of his children. Because part of the reason “Tommy” gets utterly showered in affection in the first chapter is because Philza is scared about the people going missing and is trying to protect his youngest kid. But the building resentment was based heavily on “Tommy” not being real, either, and getting that treatment. With “Wilbur’s” assumption that Philza knew and was still treating him the worst of the imposters, it became something that blew up. But if Tommy were real, and “Wilbur” again unraveled that Philza figured it out…it would just seem natural to him. Of course he loved his real kid more, but that’s didn’t mean he wasn’t treating the other imposters okay. “Wilbur” would be completely content to continue the illusion, although kinda rotting on the inside. Since “Technoblade” would never learn Philza knew, perpetually acting on the assumption he’d have sold them out if so, they’d never get their character development because they’d always dismiss any of Philza’s advice because they wouldn’t trust or respect him. Philza grieved his children, but had far more freedom than in OG timeline. Combined with a lack of transparency, he never developed empathy for the imposters. 

“Wilbur” wouldn’t see his death coming. Neither would “Technoblade,” but they wouldn’t be surprised, either. Just bitterly resentful.

Ever since the Manberg festival he's half blind, has severe Tinnitus in one ear, and one of his horns is permanently broken and stunted in growth

The festival also left him with a minor limp and potentially missing some fingers

Understands ender and endermen body language better than almost every other overworlder because of living with Ranboo

Him making the nukes and electric chair wasn't just one or two time things, the kid's a genius in many areas

Has a habit of working too hard. It keeps his mind off literally every negative, but makes his already broken body in worse shape

howeverrr uhhh. whenever i see it in fanbase as applied to the dsmp itself well 😋 you really can't divorce that from the fact ppl r INVENTING an alcoholic abuser parental figure to be creepy and gross to tubbo. just to add a dynamic to their ints that isn't there at all, and can't be by nature of who they are and how they act. why are you doing that to the addict character who's never presented that way at all lol? why are you taking away all the deeply interesting choices tubbo makes and why he makes them, the traumas he suffers, and center them on one guy forever to the point you have to lie to justify it lmao? take a writing class and an addiction empathy class RIGHT NEOWWWW

like idk what to tell you but cschlatt is v explicitly coded as like...an older brother's cool ass friend. cclingy speak to him casually and w familiarity, as does cwilb like. they know him. for clearly a while. ctommy ctubbo both think he's awesome, they both wear little schlatt replica suits when he first joins the server bcs they're so excited to see him again, they snap a bunch photos w him, and then when cschlatt got banned he spent the next TWO HOURS just hanging out on call w them, which is canon int. (like how there's a dsmp iskall cuz of the time he joined fundy on a tour, or cq's first official time on the smp was in a vc w tommy.) like schlatt's far enough away for them to still be smone to be star-struck by, and they clearly hold him on a bit of a pedestal, but he's still close enough they're chummy and comfortable w him. it's textual and like. rridiculously adorable oh my gosh. my special guys.

so the coding w ctubbos relationship w him is just. yeah that older brother's friend, a shitty boss, guy who's snappy to you but is clearly projecting about it. and while there is sm stuff abt them thats incredibly purposeful and original to them, v reflective of their mindsets and parallels, there's no layer to it like that. cschlatt isn't his guardian, he isn't responsible for him in that way. they're just sm guys.

the thing that makes it even more annoying to me is there's ALREADY characters w a fraught emotional relationship w their father, that tackle how it affects their treatment of eachother, and responsibility the guardian owes them and fails to deliver on. cfundy and cwilbur !!!! ctommy and cwilbur too, cuz don't forget cwilb canonically raised him!! the layers of that are insane, especially paired w the layers cwilb has with his own father. this shit is generational.

so yeas to summarize 👍 ithink dadschlatt can be v v cute and sweetness, i am a sucker for some domestic aus and complex character relations. but generally speaking, i'm v soured on the concept of it being in the dsmp bcs like. why are you writing edgy creepypasta tier scenarios abt two guys who all things considered would end up pretty cool w eachother. don't talk to me

When was the last time you saw the sky? is a Tubbo-centric, dadschlatt Manberg/Pogtopia era canon-divergent fic. 31/35 chapters so far, with 191k words. It largely focuses on clingyduo and Tubbo and Phil’s relationship.

Summary:

The god of death was an enemy of Manberg. He was to be kept in Pandora’s Vault and never, under any circumstances, be released. Tubbo just wanted to help him. He never meant to start another war. Or A canon divergent AU where Philza has been locked in the prison for six years after Manberg won the war to prevent him from reaching Technoblade to help the Pogtopians. Tubbo, the secretary of state, starts to feel bad for the prisoner.

Oh its wedged its place deep in the fandom. Basically there was this arc in the dsmp where tubbo was a subordinate of the new president of lmanberg (renamed manberg) named schlatt, and his persona was a ram but people often mistook him for a goat. And people like their symbolism and stuff so they made tubbo have horns to represent the effect schlatt had on tubbo (schlatt wasnt a good man), and then someone made an au where tubbo was schlatt's son and called it the dadschlatt au and it just spread all throughout the fandom

I’m a big fan of 2nd person narration and this particular work delivers it beautifully. I also adore the way they wrote Schlatt - the fear of death, the understanding and semi-acceptance of all the wrongs he’s done to everybody, and his response to it all being just Well fuck *proceeds to drink more* - he’s so very much in character.

That very specific, and honestly pretty fucking sad implication at the end hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting too, actually-

You get it all: functional pumpkin duo, dadschlatt with Tubbo and Fundy, Tommy getting away from Pogtopia!Wilbur, a happy, hopeful ending- 

When I say that in the DSMP, Schlatt is the character that could have had it all and changed the course of the the story towards a much brighter future, this fic is what I mean.

Basically, it's just more Manburg Cabinet working out, although slightly differently and taking longer. I love the broship that Pumpkin Duo has in this.

The lack of heavy angst in here is a real breath of fresh air for me, btw.

It was supposed to just be a secret rescue mission. Tubbo was going to get his father free from prison and let him run into the wilderness, voter fraud charges be damned. But then Fundy found out about the fake charges, and went to Quackity for legal advice.

It wasn't supposed to end with Wilbur publicly executing his own son.

The title speaks for itself no? An AU where Wilbur cheats to win the elections and it’s all dandy and good until Fundy finds out and decides that justice should prevail.

Schlatt and Wilbur basically switch roles and with them, lots of other things change. (I love this idea so much.)

Dad!Schlatt is a thing and the Pumpkin Duo dynamic reminds me a bit of an edgier Happy Duo - that married couple who can't stop bickering. They’re great.

Fundy gets a lot of spotlight, Quackity is really intelligent and gets to show it, Techno and Schlatt are old friends, and Sweater Duo angst is a thing, so really, what else could you want??

(Also, this fic is finished, I'm not sure why it’s marked as WIP, but it might have to do with the hints to a possible sequel that just never came to be.)

so I really like dadschlatt au, but only in like the specific circumstance that both schlatt and tubbo don't realize they're related. like schlatt hardly even remembers that he has a kid, so how's he supposed to guess that this random one is his, and tubbo doesn't remember his parents, so why would this random politician be his dad? I think it just works better for both their characters if neither of them know about the relation
