Personally I love dadlock and dadwright enough to have a whole au centered on that but the concept of them being the double income no kids whiskey uncles that unleash the gift reckoning on Mercenary Day is fucking hilarious

Dadlock takes place in Bound By Blood: "Rytlock never said he had a son." Ryland scoffed, "He wouldn't. That's not how we do things here." Braham squinted as he looked Ryland up and down causing the Charr to raise an eyebrow. Braham pulled his attention away from Ryland and scratched at his chin, "I don't see it." Ryland stops in his track, face blank as he says "What?" The Norn stopped as well and waved a hand at Ryland "You don't look like them." 1/ - Numbered Anon

“Don’t look like /who/.” “You don’t look like the Commander!” Rylands’ ears twitched, “/Why/ would I look like the Commander?” Braham blinks, “You’re siblings.” Rylands’ mouth falls open at how sure Braham sounds, “I-what?” 2/2 - Numbered Anon

!!! With the Jealous Ryland AU, what ultimately makes Ryland join Bangar in 'taming' Jormag is a comment from his older brother. "What, was that?!" Ryland hisses out, cutting Braham's unneeded introduction of his sire and brother short. "That was Aurene doing whatever she wants." was Renix's dull reply. "I know that! Why didn't you stop it?!" "And why not? You raised it!" Ryland asked as he shoved a claw at his brothers' chest. A growl ripped out of Renix's throat, "Hardly. Where Tyria got the idea I had the time to raise a cub while I was running around saving Tyria from itself, I don't know." Ryland snarled, "So you left an Elder Dragon raise itself?" Renix rolled his eyes, "Yes because I'm /that/ irresponsible Ryland," His eyes locked onto his younger brother and he can't keep the growl out of his voice 2/ -Numbered Anon

Renix's anger dulls when he see's Ryland's ears drop, shoulder hunch up and his tail stops moving and Renix doesn't fight when Rytlock pushes them apart, "Enough!" Their sire ordered. - Yeah, I don't know where that went off to, I wanted Renix to comment on wanting to see Bangar order an Elder Dragon around, but that went out the window in place of shitty family reunion! Ryland watches in fascination as the Commanders smile goes from fond to 'I'm going to kill whoever touches my tail next' with a small twitch. "A misunderstand." *screeches* A few branches of the Icebrood Commander AU and the Dadlock AU have intertwined themselves to make the Icebrood Cub AU! - Rytlock pauses slightly at hearing the Commanders snarl because he hasn't seen the Commander since kralkatorriks death and the Blood Citadel isn't in the top ten of places he expected to run into the Commander, a quick glance to Crecia and he catches a twitch of an ear, so, he wasn't alone in his confusion then 1/ -Numbered Anon

“I didn’t lose the remains of my Warband for you to ignore this Imperator!” the Commanders voice hits their ears despite the heavy door between them and Rytlock can’t help by snap his tail out as grief hits him but it’s quickly pushed down. Bangar’s own snarl hits the air, “Your time as the /Commander/ has gotten to your head /Centurion/. You don’t order /me/ around, I order /you/. Return to your post Centurion.” 2/ -Numbered Anon

Another snarl rips out of the Commanders throat as the door to Ruinbringer’s office is yanked open, “And Centurion.” Bangar calls out, his tone softer and the Commander pauses in the doorway, eyes trained on the ground, “Put your Warband to rest.” The Commanders lips pull up as a growl echos out of their throat and they don’t hesitate in slamming the door shut behind them and stalking away, eyes never leaving the ground and before 3/ -Numbered Anon

Rytlock can open his mouth Crecia is pulling him into Ruinbringers’ office. - Rytlock still has anger boiling in his gut but it simmers down when he comes across the Commander laying waste to anyone who steps into the ring and his heart skips he sees the next opponent step up because while he only watched over him for his first year of his life, he knows his cub. “Now what brings the Commander to the Blood Citadel?” He hears his cub ask as the two exchange a few hits 4/ -Numbered Anon

The Commander snorts as they catch his cubs arm and twists it to push him away, “I’m here as a Centurion.” His cub hums, “How long are you here for?” Rytlock doesn’t need to be facing the Commander to see the eye roll, “Not long. I got a Warband to put to rest.” That puts a pause in the gathered group, “So the Commander loses people too.” Another Charr says and the Commander clicks their tongue, “More then you can imagine.” They snarl before they leave the training ring. 5/ - Numbered Anon

He watches as his cub hits the other Charr upside the head. “Singed fur Gip!” “What?!” “‘So the Commander loses people too.’” his cub mocks, “Really Gip, Really?” “How was I supposed to know?!” Gip snapped back. “Well I don’t know, maybe the sheer number of Wars they’ve been in might be a clue?” “Boss” A Charr sitting on the fence cut in, voice bland, “You need to turn down your hero-worshipping.” And his cub splutters. 6/6 -Numbered Anon

HOLY SHIT ANON THIS IS AMAZING!!! OMG!!!YESSSS!! Brimpebble has some serious hero worship over the Commander, and the mention of the Commander’s warband! 

God I just love all the interactions you’ve written anon they’re just /chef kiss! 

And man, considering this is Icebrood Cub - I wonder if they turn when the Commander turns, do they lose their warband and latch onto the Commander, only to find nothing there to latch onto? 

What if we go even further, and have Rytlock see the Charr Commander as sorta ‘his cub’ too. Now it’s not just his dear friend and his cub - it’s both his cubs - both Icebrood, both losing warbands, losing hope - and their only hope is him

Hey I can't believe that Dadlock Icebrood AU came to fruition and we had to see Rytlock make a decision between Ryland and the Commander, with both being heavily injured

So we (mostly me) go ham over Brimbrother and Dadlock AUs and I was thinking about another character of mine today who's in the works and it got me thinking "how much would change if the Commander was Rytlocks elder (read dam/sire or older sibling or maybe one point Legionnaire/Centurion) or someone he looks up to?" Now my thoughts on Rytlock's sire lead that to be a mess and a half but I draw a blank on it being someone he looks up to, do you have any thoughts? - Numbered Anon

OOOH that’s genius! I know I’ve talked about someone being younger than Rytlock being the Commander (especially in Brimbrother stuff!) but someone being older would be so interesting!

and besides like, an older sibling - maybe it could be a sort of mentor? Or an old soldier that Rytlock had a positive interaction? Like a sort of John Silver from Treasure Planet character, who gives Rytlock some life advice and comfort at his lowest when he’s a cub? 

Or heck maybe it’s an older bully of Rytlock’s? I knwo he probably wouldn’t have respect for them, but it could be fun to imagine how they both grow? See the bully apologize to Rytlock for their treatment?
