Summary: In a world where everyone is born beta, leaders chosen by newly founded packs become alpha. Omegas are not born or made, they are broken. Steve wants Tony to become the Avenger's omega.

Reasons why I love it: I really like this take on A/B/O. The worldbuilding about all the ways people can be "broken" into omegas is super interesting, and the one Steve chooses makes complete sense to me, considering who he is as a person. Plus, that nod to Steve's ulterior motive at the end is like a nice cherry on top. I love this fic, and if dubious consent isn't a dealbreaker for you, then I bet you will too!

Summary: When Steve and Tony wake up to find that they've been captured, they assume things can't get any worse. They're wrong.

Reasons why I love it: 'Bad guys made them do it' is my not-so-secret pleasure, and this one scratches that itch so goddamn well for me. The smut is hot as hell, but what really gets me is how desperately Steve is trying to hold himself back. His inner monologue is perfect, and I absolutely adore how, after everything is over, Tony comes to Steve's rescue. This is definitely one of my favorite fics in this fandom, so I hope you check it out for yourself!

Reasons why I love it: This one is so fucking good! Steve and Tony really get dealt a shitty card by nature here, but the way they handle it is amazing. They're terrified, but they support each other, and that is just beautiful to me. The companion piece to this fic is also wonderful, in that it shows just how hard Steve tries to give Tony everything he needs, but also how Tony returns the favor. This verse is incredible, check it out, I bet you'll love it!

Reasons why I love it: Rut-crazed Steve is one of my favorite things, and this one is just beautiful. I love how Tony instantly swoops in to take care of Steve, and the smut is hot as all hell. The rest of the Avengers are wonderfully written as well, and the first scene sets the mood perfectly. I love this one a lot, so I hope you check it out for yourself!

Summary: Steve had to admit that he had some reservations about how the New Century handled the social balance between alphas and omegas.

Reasons why I love it: Taking the usual A/B/O trope and flipping it on its head. I love it! Steve is really amazing in this, and his inner monologue is super well-written. Poor Tony being a slave to his instincts makes for some incredible smut, and you know I always love a good "oh-shit-fuck-we're-compatible" storyline. This one is fantastic, and I highly recommend you read it!

I’ve been watching the nosferatu films and I just saw the scenes where Nosferatu is transported across the ocean in a ship in his coffin and then he kills the people on board.

And I said ah yes just like in Pleasure of a Dark prince. And then I thought about it and yea lothaire IS nosferatu core isn’t he? He’s both harker and the monster. Like Ellie says there’s one Lothaire who commands she obey him and another who whispers sweet loving words.

Not sure if this is kresley being inspired or me web weaving.

I SINCERELY hope you don't mind me publishing this, because a) I've been at a sportsball game which is why I was late on this, I'm sorry, I feel like a traitor to my kind for putting sportsball above Art b) THIS IS SUCH A GOOD TAKE!!!!

I think that one of the reasons Lothaire is such a superior vampire romance novel (which isn't to say I don't love others; Dark Needs at Night's Edge is one of my favorite books, I like to love every Kresley vampire book) is because Lothaire as a character is an old school vampire in many ways.

He owes a LOT to Lestat, for sure. Blond, melodramatic, extremely funny both intentionally and unintentionally. But I also think Kresley was absolutely trying to evoke Dracula vibes without ACTUALLY summoning Transylvania when she made all of her vampiric heroes Eastern European. The Wroth brothers are Estonian; Lothaire (and I think Kristoff, when his time comes...?) is Russian. Dacia is Vampire Russia lol.

Lothaire traveling by COFFIN on a BOAT is legitimately one of my favorite things in the series because it is Kresley having him clearly embrace being a vampire's vampire in a way few vamps do in these vampire romance novels. Like, the Daci are so above it all that Trehan reads more as a fantasy hero to me than a vampire (though I do love him). The Wroth brothers seem either indifferent to vampirism or actively tortured by it (though I do think the entire monkey's paw origins of Nikolai and Murdoch returning home to "save" Conrad and Sebastian by forcibly turning them and then driving them away and Conrad's brain being broken by it is deliciously gothic).

Lothaire was never turned into a vampire like the Wroths, but he still seems to really lean into being this Creature of the Night. And Kresley embraces it too. He keeps his red eyes—and they're really alluded to as being pretty disturbing, even by Ellie after she starts to fall in love with him. He shows up in his own book covered in blood and viscera several times, and it doesn't sound particularly... hot. She describes him with blood dripping from his fangs and getting all gross, Ellie asks him to "wash the skin off" before they get sexual.

He shows up as a monster to Ellie (who is literally possessed for most of the book, with the subversion being that Lothaire ends up not wanting the evil soul possessing her because she's quite flat; but Ellie, who is a good person but not always a kind or easy person, draws him in with her depth and ability to understand him) several times, and the first time they meet he is a monster literally. He treats her like a possession at first, tucking her away "for safekeeping" which reads as very Nosferatu to me lol.

But he also does some very conventionally seductive vampire things with her. "Be my dear" is such a CLASSIC vampire move lol. In the scenes where he seduces Ellie, when she's not in the driver's seat as it were, there's almost a trancelike quality to the beginning of the scenes, where she's clearly kind of terrified but also very much wants to be there. And yes, Ellie is a virgin, but she also DOES take control in some of the scenes (really, it's the dry humping scene and the first time they have penetrative sex, which is obviously a choice on Kresley's part meant to give her agency and tone down the dubcon a bit) so the scenes where she's more "at his mercy" are very stark.

The book also really revels in the sexual bloodletting in a way the other vampire novels in the series (besides maybe Sweet Ruin, which... doesn't count) don't. The other books often treat biting as this BIG DEAL, but Lothaire and Ellie really get into it pretty early, and continue because SHE likes the blood stuff so much. There's the "blood kiss" when he first expects her to be horrified by him biting her lip and getting her bloody, only to see that she's SMILING; there's Ellie licking his fangs while they kiss and cutting her tongue on them so he can taste it; there's the.................... virgin's blood......; and of course, the blood 69 lol.

And there's really a sense, to me, that Ellie is actually very clearly cut out to be good at being a vampire and being drawn to the darkness. It's the CHOICE that she wants. The first time they have sex after she's been transformed is so.... interesting, because she's really this kind of monstrous creature that's been totally corrupted, and she's HORRIFIED, but she's also unable to resist having sex with him in a way that really wasn't possible for them before. It very much reads like the corruption is complete, BUT..... She can't get over not being given a choice.

Which... again, also reads as Noferatu-core to me. She wants to give herself to the darkness, but she needs to CHOOSE to give herself to the darkness.

Plus, Kresley never actually has Ellie redeem him. He compromises. He kills LESS because of her. He listens to her. He dotes on her. But when we find out he has Kristoff, his own brother, held captive, it's still clear that he's fucking with him mentally and physically. He's tormenting him with Furie's whereabouts (even if Lothaire genuinely doesn't know where she is); he's breaking his fingers during chess games. He's not.... good. When La Dorada returns and commands evil beings, she can command Lothaire because he's still evil. He's just forced to cooperate with the "good guys" sometimes because he's evil and in love with someone who enjoys being a vampire and doesn't mind being married to someone who is evil, but is not evil herself.

Also. He's obsessed with his castle and has a literal book of magical debts owed to him. He's SOOOOO vampire classic Nosferatu-influenced it's amazing. So much of the book depends on an evil bargain he made. I. LOVE. IT.

Basically: If you liked Nosferatu and want something lighter but not Light, full of camp and sex and humor but also things like "I am ripping the blackened heart out of my chest as a token for you", read Kresley Cole's Lothaire.

It's been far too long since we've had a dose of Prudaci. This isn't a full blown drabble, but I hope this puts a smile on your face ^^ I hope I still remember how to write Audaci 😅

"So I pull the cloth through the loop?"

"Yeah. I had trouble with it the first time too, haha."

The nightmaren stood still with his chin tilted up, giving his girlfriend the room to work with his neck tie. He couldn't help the smile on his face; it was always nice to be close to her, and the look of concentration and curiosity on Prism's face with the cloth in her hands was adorable, "How can you get dressed like this everyday? It feels like it takes a long time."

Audaci chuckled, partially in amusement and partially out of nervousness. Prism didn't say that with frustration, he could tell that it was a genuine question for him. But he didn't want to come off as pretentious to her. Especially not when they just started out, "Well, it can sometimes. But in Nightmare, this is kind of the norm. You know? I mean- not that Nightopian fashion isn't nice!-"

"It's ok, 'Daci! I know what you mean." Looking away from the tie, the celestial smiled cheerfully at him and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek, giggling when her boyfriemd squeaked in response. She didn't look offended at all as she focused back on trying to learn how the purple cloth worked, "We do focus more on convenience and comfort with our clothes. Is it a status thing with you guys to dress nicely?"

"Hm... Yes and no." Audaci hummed, trying to just focus on how loving and understanding Prism was rather than his fear of frustrating her, "I mean, I'm not a first level nightmaren, but I prefer dressing like this. And NiGHTS and Reala don't usually dress up in suits. But it is mainly expected that the higher your status is, the more you can afford on your appearance."

"Ah, I see. And it also depends on the person's style, right?"

"Yeah, exactly."

"That is something we have in common with our clothes. Everyone has their own style!" Prism nodded, beaming a little when she finally managed to pull the tie up properly. Audaci returned her smile, reassuring her that she got it right, "I want to try dressing like you, one day. What do you think?"

'Oh Wizeman, you'd look so pretty.' That thought almost escaped the nightmarens lips, but he stopped himself in time and just nodded, "I think you'd look amazing, dear. Do you wanna try to go shopping sometime next cycle?"

"Yeah! That sounds like a fun date!" Prism's wings somehow fluttered faster at the suggestion. It managed to pull a chuckle out of Audaci, she really was a little ball of sunshine, "There are suits or dresses that can fit around my wings, right?"

"Admittedly, probably not. Not a lot of nightmaren have wings. But there are definitely clothes with low cuts in the back. Will that help?"

"Oh, of course!" Prism nodded excitedly before setting herself down on the ground. Now that Audaci was dressed for the day, the two headed out their door, ready for their outting, "That actually might be better. Less fabric around the wings to get tangled in, and I wouldn't have to spend too much time pushing them through slits. That's something frustrating with nightopian clothes that we go through."

"Sounds like we both go through fashion struggles, haha." The second level grinned before leaning down to place a sweet kiss on Prism's forehead, his smile growing as she let out a happy trill, "I love you, Prism."

"I love you too, Audaci."

Just some nice banter between lovers. That's what I mean at least XD I hope you like this, even if it's not too big ^^

extra fun tidbits below the cut

these six are the pov characters in my upcoming story Other Lost Things! upcoming when? that’s to be decided by the end of august.

cas, inari, and ollie know each other beforehand (as do eira and tyrian), as the crew on cas’s boat, gravestar. because they all spend a lot of time on said boat, i affectionately call them the gravesix.

OLT is set in a world where magic is illegal, and unfortunately five of our main characters (sorry, tyrian) are magic. inari summons fire, daci is a literal empath, cas can steal air, ollie shapeshifts, and eira summons lightning. cas, inari, and ollie are old hat at this “being a hunted criminal” thing, but it’s new for the other three.

they don’t want to be working together, but their other option is being caught and killed, so what can you do. they just have to make it through a three-week journey across the sea without killing each other, and then they can go their separate ways forever. simple.

spoiler alert: it’s not simple. and they’re all going to like each other whether they want to or not.

i might post an oc ask game soon or something. or you guys can just ask me stuff if you want to! this project has been going on for four whole years come october, so i’m really excited to finally get it out in the world.

the many tattoos of daciana zhirkova

a heartrender does not need a tattoo needle, only her own hands. daci designed all of her tattoos but due to the location of some, she needed help tracing them to her skin. most to mark significant events, things, or people in her life; others simply because she likes the way they look. descriptions follow the pictures starting at the top and go from left to right.

fox outline - located on her left side collarbone, this tattoo is to honor the ravkan fox she killed whose teeth serve as her amplifier. she had the teeth crafted into rings and fabrikator shaped to resemble pearls, their original form inked near her heart

hands - located under her right breast, hands are a big thing in daci’s tattoos. the focal point of her power, elegant and deadly and beautiful. this was her first tattoo, she was so pleased with how this sketch of her hands turned out she wanted to keep it forever

hands with fire - her right bicep, this one is for sacha. the hands representing the same power they always do, but the fire is for her twin’s gift.

anatomical heart - her right triceps, the heartrender tattoo to match the inferni one she has for sacha. two sides of the same coin, two sides of her same arm. its a twin thing

peony - her left forearm, this is her favorite flower and she secretly likes how soft it looks, it makes people underestimate her cruelty but really she just loves the flower.

rib cage & flowers - her left hip/upper thigh. more heartrender things, during her initial corporalnik studies daciana would often sketch different parts of the human body to both focus and calm her mind. she found this drawing of a rib cage in a notebook from her first few years at the little palace, flowers added in a bit of childish fancy. as an adult daciana cleaned the sketch up some, then added it to the art on her body, in memory of the child she barely was.

hands & orb - her left shoulder, more hands (shocking), she actually found this symbol in an old book in the library of the little palace and tweaked it to fit her aesthetic.

scorpion - the nape of her neck, sometime early in her childhood daciana was told the fable of the scorpion & the frog, her father called her little scorpion - spiteful and cruel even when it was not in her best interest. later, she disagreed with this interpretation, claiming the nickname like a badge of honor and not the taunt it was intended to be. scorpions strike to kill, and daciana certainly will.

dagger - down her spine, listen sometimes a bitch just wants a sexy knife and that is ok.

7. Do you have any neurodiverent characters, or characters with mental illnesses? Why did you write them this way?

Oh gosh most of my characters are neurodivergent or mentally ill in some way. Galin, Emil, Ezel, Khris, Ay, and Daciana all have ADHD. Emil, Ohm, Sulien, Ezel, Decord, and Katsumi all suffer from severe PTSD. Inessa, Ay, Emil, Ohm, Sulien, Decord, Ezel, Katsumi, and Hien all suffer from varying forms of Depression. A number of them have anxiety disorders.. Listen I wrote them this way because I'M mentally ill and neurodivergent.

9. Does this character have any tattoos or piercings? Do they wear a lot of makeup? Why did they make these choices?

Daci has several tattoos on her arms and back, they're all sort of weirdly cybernetic. They also have uhh a questionable piercing that I cannot mention here without having to tag this. They also do wear makeup! Just simple black eyeliner though :) Honestly the reason for making these choices is simply because they wanted to, the end.

10. What would they change about themselves if they had a chance?

Daciana firmly believes in living with the consequences of one's actions and existence. So, nothing.

11. Who would their ideal best friend be? Have they already met them?

Somebody who sees them for them, not for the rumours or the truths, not for what they've done. She just wants a friend who they can lean on.

14. Would they rather fight with words or by physically fighting? And would they win?

Given his position, Ezel often uses words. As seen in that fic I wrote in the server 'Debt Due', he's very manipulative. He rarely loses in battles of linguistics. But he's been known to be beat a few times(Sandrone, Emil, Hien). Though if Ezel needs to draw his sword; he will.

18. Do they play sports?

Ezel would play volleyball deadass. He'd look hot in the shorts too, even with his tail whippin around.

22. What do they do on a Friday night?

Work for the most part. If he's feeling particularly lonely he'll go find some poor sap at the bar to take home for the night. He hates being alone.

23. When they go out to dinner, what is their drink of choice? Do they like to drink alcohol or not?

For the most part, Emil will take any opportunity to drink alcohol. Firewater mixed with pop of some kind, specifically. As you know he eventually becomes sober in which his drink of preference is just lemonade of all things.

24. Where would they choose to go out to dinner? An Italian, a Mexican? What would they order?

He likes to try different things! New place every time if he can help it haha. He used to play it pretty safe and only order things he recognized, but now he'll ask the waiter(or get Korrie to ask if its that one au lol) what they recommend and he'll try it if he can eat it! Only thing is he avoids seafood restaurants for obvious allergy reasons.

Is one night of peace too much to ask for?

Daesung sighs softly as he takes Dacy’s hand. He’s more than familiar with the sensation of eyes on him, even in the middle of a crowd. Daesung ignores it for the time being. They’ve finished their food, and now that the dessert is ready to go, he pays the vendor and drops a generous tip in the jar. 

It might make up for any trouble he could potentially draw them into. 

Daesung takes the bag handed to him and leads Dacy away from the food truck. He’d hoped tonight would be a date night and nothing else. His days have been so eaten up by work lately, always needed to oversee this and to back up that and make sure all loose ends are tied up. It’s given him hardly any time for Dacy, and that simply hasn’t been acceptable. 

Tonight was supposed to be for just them, and now work is interfering once more.

Daesung squeezes Dacy’s hand and pulls him closer. “Stay by my side,” he whispers, expression still calm. “Someone is tailing us. I need you to do exactly what I say so that we can make it home safely. I really want these doughnuts, so the sooner we’re done with this, the better.”

“You don't belong on a battlefield.  Go back to your dresses and parties, girl.”  He didn't even turn to face her.

 “Sergeant Harrigan, I can help out there.  Not every fight will be on the battlefield-”

 “NO!”  He turned on her, his face a mask of rage.  She felt blood spatter across her face.  It flowed down his arm, falling to an ever-widening pool on the ground.  “This is no job for cripples!”

 She reeled back in shock, bumping into someone behind her.  A strong, gentle and comforting hand squeezed her shoulder.

 “It's all right, Kaewynn.”

 “You're always here for me, Daci.”  She turned and hugged her friend.

 “Of course, Kae. Always.”  The softness gave way to hard armor.  Kaewynn stepped back and looked at her.  Dacianna shouldered her warhammer and smiled.  “I'll be back in no time.”

 “Let me come, too!” She tried to follow but a red-haired woman stepped in her path.

 “No, Kaewynn.  You have a job here, one you're suited for.  We'll take care of things over there.”

 “Commander, please. Don't leave me behind.  Not again.”

 “You have your orders, Dragoon.”

 Alynore shouldered her pack and moved toward the door the others were passing through.  Daci... Nira... Wes... she watched Dragoons and Meddlers pass through the door, one by one.  She moved forward, but the door was already closing.  She ran.  The last face she could see through the door was Fayrah's, looking at her with tears in her eyes.

 The door snapped shut.

  Kaewynn sat bolt upright in her bed, desperately trying to draw a breath.

 No.  she swore.  Not again.

🎯 -What do they do best?

i'm not going to use their magic/fighting skills for this one bc that feels like cheating. they're criminals in a ya fantasy, you already know at least half of them are legally required to be Good At Fighting

inari- she is actually surprisingly good at acting and blending in with a crowd. it's a skill she picked up in her early teens.

daci- she's good at playing team doctor and taking care of people emotionally, surprise surprise. the latter is magic, the former is knowledge picked up from her aunt. she was meant to use it on things like cousins that got run over by a plow, not teenage girls with stab wounds, but sometimes that's just how life goes.

cas- sailing. running a boat. etc. he's mostly self-taught, but he's been doing it since he was a kid, often with little to no help, so he's much more at home on the water than on land.

ollie- honestly they've got a knack for collecting friends, making people feel welcome, etc. also, drawing. also, research. crew's resident magic researcher, since no one official is gonna do it.

eira- running away. and that's kind of the whole problem, isn't it?

tyrian- he's good with plans, delegating, figuring shit out when it gets rough. unfortunately that only applies in situations where he knows what the hell is going on, which....

❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?

inari- there are these festivals in skalmere every solstice and equinox. they don't party often, so four times a year they really go all out. it was one of the few times inari, her mom, and her sister got to get out of their little stretch of woods and into the big city.

daci- the first day she arrived in ach rhean, freshly eighteen and all by herself, when she stumbled across a wolfdog, almost full grown but all lanky like he hadn't grown into his legs. wolves are sacred where she's from, so it was a bit like a sign. she and alarik are bffs now.

cas- nothing concrete, just vague images of a happy couple carrying a young boy on their shoulders, taking him out on their sailboat, chasing him in the yard.

ollie- meeting a strange boy in an alley, having a mild panic attack, then taking his hand and running with him down the streets to the harbor.

eira- a moonlit picnic on the grass in some park they definitely weren't allowed in, holding hands with a boy and looking at the stars.

tyrian- i'm going to be a sap and say the same.

✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?

pretty much all of these are spoilers so i'm going to give them extremely vaguely and concerningly.

inari- a hand covering a little girl's mouth in the dark, trying to keep her quiet.

daci- jagged shards of wood and stone strewn through the mud.

cas- saltwater. the fading light of the sun.

ollie- being a stranger in their own home.

eira- a bright flash of light a few seconds too late.

tyrian- a girl taken, crying, from his arms, and months of empty windows.

i mean, what are ocs without heaps of trauma? these ones were actually harder than i thought they would be to answer as well, lol. thanks for the ask!

Okay! So I’ve finally finished creating and drawing my Sides, and I’ve decided to show them to you guys! (Also I’m tagging @darknightvirgil because they wanted me too (love you Andy 💜))

Fea (fee), ‘Sensitivity’:

Fea represents my morality, empathy, and a huge chunk of my shyness. They also represent the confusion I first felt over my gender, and just recently began to identify as a demiboy. Fea is quiet and caring, and in tune with how the others are feeling, although their own feelings can be hurt extremely easily.

Fea’s colour is pastel pink, and they are the oldest of my Sides.

You can often hear them asking the others if they need anything. Fea likes to help whenever it’s possible.

Xavier / Zay, ‘Passion’:

Xavier, or Zay, is my Passion. He represents my love for any and all of the activities and hobbies I enjoy. He’s also very flamboyant, and has come to also embody my own gay flair for things. He really enjoys learning new words, as I am a writer and so is he, even if he isn’t the brightest at times.

Zay’s colour is burgundy, and he is the second oldest Side.

You can often hear Zay yelling about how amazing he is or how much he ships various different Sides.

Hugo, ‘Knowledge’:

Hugo is a smart boi. He doesn’t tolerate any sh*t from anyone, least of all a certain loud, red gay (who he secretly has a crush on). Hugo is the representation of all of my knowledge and logical thinking, as well as the dry wit and heavy sarcasm that makes up most of my humour, and the random trivia I’ve acquired over my lifetime. His twin is Mendacius.

Hugo’s colour is pastel green, and he is the joint third oldest.

The most common thing Hugo says is “I’m surrounded by bafoons.”

Mendacius / Daci (Day-see), ‘Deceit’:

Daci is arguably even more extra than Zay is. Daci’s an actor, he’s where my love of theatre comes in because when you’re acting it’s like a way of lying, as you’re not portraying yourself. He also represents how I tend to stay very reserved and to myself in public, and how I usually hide how I’m feeling from my family members. Daci’s twin is Hugo, and Daci treats Randall like a son or younger brother, getting very angry when somebody makes Randall cry.

Daci’s colour is burnt orange, and he is the joint third oldest.

Daci’s catchphrase isn’t a full sentence, he just mocks offends and says “how dare” at almost anything anybody says.

Randall, ‘Anxiety’:

Randall is a smol anxious boy. He has the physical form of a five year old but the mental maturity equal to all of the others. He just sits, reminding me of everything that could happen and everything that worries me, but he’s pretty neutral about whether he’s trying to be an antagonist. That’s the job of another Side.

Randall’s colour is dark purple, he loves Virgil so much that he made himself look very similar, and he is the youngest of my Sides.

Avis, ‘Desire’:

Avis is the poshest of boys. He’s very conscious of how his face and hair look, and he will get very frustrated if even a single hair is out of place. Avis embodies my goals and ambitions in life, and he works very well with Zay and Daci, as together the three make up all of my creative tendencies.

Avis’ colour is turquoise, and he is the second youngest, however he is a lot older than Randall.

Avis mainly just compliments his looks, but he will also scream when someone takes any of his millions of hair products.

Lucifer / Luke, ‘Deprecation’:

Now, Luke is just plain evil. Hence his name being Lucifer. He embodies all of my deepest, darkest emotions, and self worth issues, and he is horrible. He bullies every other Side, especially Randall, who ends up crying, which enraged Daci. Daci and Luke h a t e each other. But Luke does it all with a smirk. He even went as far as to wear the same suit that Nathan Sharp wears in his Phantom music video (because I love him and so does Luke). He tries to hide his horns with his hair, however, but they’re still visible. He’s a literal devil.

Luke’s colour is black, and he is the third youngest.

Luke just mutters despicable insults to all of the Sides, such as “we don’t need you” “you’re so annoying we all think so” and “your feelings don’t matter to us you’re useless”, those are some of the regulars.
