Touya missed Keigo. There was nothing else to it. He missed his dumb, adorable laugh. He missed the way his eyes sparkled with flecks of gold in the sunlight. Touya was enrolled at Kyoto University, which was about a six-hour train ride away. Despite everything, they’d made it work. They traded off, visiting one another every other weekend, but they hadn’t gone this long without visiting in years . It hadn’t seemed to put any strain on their relationship, but, nonetheless, it was annoying. To Touya, it was more than annoying. It was gut-wrenching. He needed Keigo…especially with how the past few weeks had been going. Everything was crashing down on him. His last round of exams had thoroughly kicked his ass, he’d lost sleep from the stress, and he’d gotten in a minimum of ten fights with his parents over the phone. The stress and exhaustion were making him feel physically sick. His brain is filled with white noise as he tries to process literally anything his professor is saying. All of it goes in one ear and out the other. All he can think about is Keigo. They’re supposed to meet up at a halfway point tonight to get dinner, and each tick of the clock on the wall is driving him insane. He’s dividing the time in his head, counting the minutes, seconds, and hours. Suddenly, his phone screen lights up beside his open notebook on the desk, and Touya sharply inhales when he sees the familiar nickname crawl across the screen. Frantically, he opens the text message.

Kei: hey…something came up at the hospital. They need me to work an extra shift. I’m so sorry, T, but I’ll have to rain-check this one.

Touya’s world comes crashing down around him, and he feels his chest getting tight. This was the only thing that had kept him going all week, and now it was ripped from his hands. Who knew when they were going to get to see each other again? Two more weeks? Four more weeks? Touya can’t stand it. He wants to be angry; part of him is angry, but he knows it isn’t his fault. He swallows his sigh of disappointment as he sinks into the chair, wishing he could continue to sink into the ground until he was away from everyone and everything. Touya barely even registers when class is over until he blinks, realizing that he’s the only one left in the room. His heart aches and his throat hurts as he feels tears welling up in his eyes, and he sloppily gathers his belongings before storming out of the classroom. He stops dead in his tracks when he looks out the window and sees the torrential downpour, realizing he’d forgotten his umbrella.

The walk to his apartment from campus was about thirty minutes, and Touya trudged through the pouring rain with a scowl painted on his face. He’s freezing, soaked to the bone, and more desperate than he’s ever felt. He’d needed a nice weekend with Keigo. He’d been craving the feeling of Keigo’s strong arms wrapping around him, keeping him safe and snug. He’d been longing for Keigo’s blissfully amorous touch that would make him forget about all of his problems. Now, his weekend is just going to be filled with emptiness. As he storms to his door and jams the keys into the lock, he answers the phone.

“I DON’T WANNA FUCKING TALK RIGHT NOW!” He snaps angrily, his voice cracking as he violently shoves the door open. The second he steps inside and lifts his head, he sees Keigo standing in the middle of his living room, holding a bouquet of rindo flowers, looking extremely concerned. Touya drops his phone as he stares at Keigo, open-mouthed in total shock. He feels faint. Keigo is here . Keigo is here here. In his apartment.

“Uh…surprise?” Keigo laughs nervously, not sure what to make of his frazzled, sopping-wet boyfriend as the awkward silence is permeated by the faint irate screams of Touya’s father blasting from the phone. Slowly, the white-haired man processes the scene before him, taking note of the cinnamon candle burning on the table between two freshly made plates of yakitori. Touya picks up his phone, promptly hanging up on his father as he turns around and closes the door, pressing his hands flat against the wood as he stares at the ground. He takes a few deep breaths, trying to calm down and decide which emotion to choose. Moments before, he was angry enough to smash something, and now, everything he wanted is right behind him. If Keigo knew how shitty he’d been feeling, he probably wouldn’t have tricked him like this. In truth, Touya hasn't been as open lately. He didn’t want Keigo to feel bad about having to constantly cancel their time together. But…

“You fucking liar ,” Touya laughs light-heartedly as he turns around, pointing a fake accusatory finger at his boyfriend as he feels his anger melting away. Keigo seems to silently sigh in relief as he shrugs sheepishly, holding the flowers out to him.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have tricked you. Seems like you haven’t been having the best day,” Keigo mutters apologetically as Touya takes the flowers.

“It’s the best day, now ,” Touya grins, drinking in the familiar scent of his favorite flower, picking up the faint whiffs of his boyfriend’s cologne mixed in. He’s so full of intense relief at this moment that it’s almost painful. The heartache he’d been experiencing for weeks is fading. On instinct, he walks forward, opening his arms to pull Keigo into a hug, but the blonde steps back and laughs nervously as he puts his hands up.

“Whoa, there, loverboy. I promise I’ll give you the biggest hug in the universe but you may wanna get out of those wet clothes before you catch a cold,” Keigo sneers, and Touya rolls his eyes, huffing and wiping away the strands of white hair that are plastered to his forehead from the rain. He suddenly becomes very aware of how cold he keeps his apartment, and the chill sends an uncomfortable shiver through his body in combination with his soaked clothes.

“Lemme jump in the shower real quick before dinner,” Touya mutters, leaving his bag on the floor as he heads to the bathroom.

“I bribed Rumi to watch Tomie. She owes me, and she was doing some motivational summit in town anyway,” Keigo replies.

Written for DabiHawks week 2023 Day 5 Prompt: Fake dating Fandom: MHA, BNHA Characters: Dabi, Hawks, Todoroki Family Words: 1202 Summary: Dabi needs a way to piss off his father at a family diner, what better way than to announce his boyfriend he got at college. . .why didn't anyone tell him Shoto had come out first.

“You want me to fake date you in hopes that your father will never want to talk to you again?” Keigo Takami asked his college roommate, an unbelievable expression on his face.

“Well, why not?” Dabi asked, a look of confusion on his face.

“How do you know this will even work?”

“Cause he hates me and everything I do but my sister has this dream of us being a ‘happy’ family. I’m thinking if I can disappoint him enough with my gay ass he will drop me and forget I exist.”

“You are just full of Daddy issues aren’t you,” Keigo rolled his eyes.

“Oh like you’re one to talk,” Dabi snapped, making the blonde laugh.

“What’s in it for me?” Keigo asked, crossing his arms.

“I’ll suck your dick whenever you want for a month?” Dabi tried.

“Really? You do that if I ask you to already.”

“You get a free trip to the beach?” Dabi smiled.

“Fine I’ll take both,” Keigo smiled, he knows he could have made Dabi work harder for it, but he couldn’t say no to his tattooed roommate, it’s a problem that has been brought up to him multiple times.

This leads to a week later, the two are free for spring break flying out to Dabi’s hometown.

“Touya welcome home!” a woman, smaller than him with white hair that had little red flecks in it smiled, hugging him.

“It’s Dabi,” Touya rolled his eyes, but still hugged her back, it made Keigo smile seeing his angsty roommate act like he has a heart.

“And who is this?” she let go of the hug, holding her hand out to him.

“Keigo Takami,” Keigo smiled, taking the hand.

“Fuyumi, Touya’s younger sister.

“This is my boyfriend,” Dabi smirked proudly.

“You sure? Because the smirk says it’s another ploy to get the old man pissed at you,” a white-haired guy said, joining the conversation.

“Touya! Don’t tell me Natsuo’s right?”

“Sorry sis. Kei this is my younger brother Natsuo. Not to brag but I’m kind of the oldest,” Dabi beamed.

“Doesn’t mean he’s smart,” the final Todoroki sibling deadpanned, not staying to chat, just to throw in his two cents.

“That’s Shoto. He’s still in high school,” Fuyumi informed him as she made everyone move inside.

“So when will dear old dad be here?” Dabi asked, sitting on the couch.

“He’ll be here for dinner. He’s excited you decided to show up,” Fuyumi beamed clapping her hands. Dabi scoffed, putting his arm over Keigo’s shoulder, admitting making the blonde blush.

“So how did you two meet?” Fuyumi asked.

“Oh he’s my roommate,” Dabi said.

“You got your roommate to play your fake boyfriend,” Natsuo laughed.

“Hey, we can so pass for a real couple!” Dabi yelled back.

“Touya you are so fucking stupid,” Fuyumi said as his siblings died into arguing, Keigo laughing at seeing him be carefree. As long as he ignores the pain in his chest he’ll be fine.

“Well, dinner will be ready soon if you want to make your way to the dining room. I’ll let Sho know,” Fuyumi stood up.

“I actually need to run to the restroom,” Keigo said.

“First door on the right,” Dani tilted his head.

“You can do this Kei! Your roommate is just an idiot. It’s one dinner and then you don’t have to do it ever again,” Keigo splashed some water on his face, anything to make the feelings go away. Dabi was too dumb to catch on to what was going on inside his stupid head.

“He’s so smart but so lovingly dumb,” Keigo sighed, washing his hands and exiting the small room only to be surprised by the youngest sibling.

“Are you really dating Touya?” Shoto asked, walking with him to the dining room.

“Yeah kid we are,” Keigo smiled.

“Don’t lie for Touya. You’ll get hurt. He’s too much of an idiot to realize what’s right in front of him,” Shoto rolled his eyes, leaving his side as they entered the dining room.

“So Enji, meet my boyfriend Keigo Takaimi,” Dabi introduced him as he sat down for dinner.

“It is nice to meet you Keigo,” Enji tried to give a welcoming smile, but it honestly just creeped him out.

“Oh uh, yeah nice to meet you too,” Hawks said, sitting down.

“Izuku’s going to be picking me up after school tomorrow,” Shoto said, calmly eating his food.

“That’s nice. He’s a good kid,” Enji smiled and Dabi was shocked at how accepting his father was.

“Now might be a bad time, but Shoto has been dating this Izuku kid for like three months now and told Dad instantly in a way to get him to leave him alone,” Natsuo whispered to his older brother, an evil smirk on his face.

“All my good laid plains to ruin,” Dabi huffed, eating his food.

“Can I ask you a question Keigo?” Enji said, fully ignoring his children with well ease practice.

“You already did but go off,” Keigo shrugged.

“I am trying to be a better father and was wondering if you really cared for my eldest child?” Enji asked, causing a hush to fall over the table.

“I have never met someone who brought more joy in my life. He keeps things exciting. He understand me and where I grew up it was hard to find someone like him. He willingly chooses to move off campus with me. He understands when I’m having my bad days. He will skip class for me and I’ve never had anyone in my life who cared about me as much as he does. He’s helped me more than I ever thought I deserved,” Keigo smiled as a realization hit Dabi square in the chest.

Realizing he might have said too much Keigo quickly stands up asking to be excused, before walking out of the house to the yard.

“Stupid idiot! Why would you say that? Rumi was right you are a true dumbass!” Keigo yelled at himself.

“Did you mean what you said?” Dabi asked, scaring the shit out of Keigo.

“What? Oh yeah no of course I didn’t! You wanted it to be real didn’t you?” Keigo asked as Dabi walked closer.

“Don’t fuck with me Kei! I’ve seen you act and your shit at it! I’ve never seen you like this before!” Dabi yelled back as Keigo looked at him in shock.

“What does it matter if I meant it? You don’t feel the same way. I am happy to just go along as we have been. I can live with just touches as long as it’s you,” Keigo smiled at the tattooed man.

“You dumbass. You can never just accept the fact that someone may like you,” Dabi rolled his eyes pulling the blonde in closer and kissing him.

sam's togachako fic rec masterlist

So the tumblr thread with togachako recs from the other day inspired me to make this post that’s supposed to be a masterlist of my togachako recs. I’m sure I’ve forgotten to add some of the recs I’ve included in my ao3 author’s notes before LMAO. Also, I’m planning to update this list with any new togachako recs I want to add in the future. Atm I don’t feel like self-reccing since this list is already so long as is XD

1K-5K

A lovely fic with lyrical prose in which Himiko is Medusa and Ochako is her blind GF. It explores Himiko's profound grief over Jin and her relief of finally having human connection be attainable again.

A nice little fic from arguably one of the best femslash writers in that fandom. It checks off all the boxes for everything I could want out of a Togachako fic: a theme of acceptance, exploring what could have been in another life and SO MANY cute moments. Also, the ambiguous ending just feels so right.

A heartfelt bite-sized read that features Himiko and Ochako navigating life together and quirk prejudices in the aftermath of the war. It's so soft with references to spicy moments sprinkled in. (Who doesn't love Togachako and THE BITING?) It's just so sweet to see Himiko trying to grow beyond her past and having Ochako to rely on.

One of my fav Togachako smut one shots. It's so sweet and cute and I want to craddle it in my arms. I love how the story shows Himiko helping Ochako work through self-esteem issues - also, what's not to love about technically self-cest.

The university setting suits Togachako's dynamic really well. I love Himiko's pastel goth aesthetic and Ochako's initial animosity toward her strange lab partner before growing enamored.

I really enjoyed this soulmates AU one-shot since it tied in so well with how much Togachako loves each other despite the odds seemingly being against them. This story really is a testament to how there is no universe in which Ochako could possibly hate Himiko.

A super cute one-shot with a unique matchmaking setup! I was especially fond of the way Ochako’s gay panic was written and Himiko’s dialogue was incredibly fun to read. The parallels drawn between Himiko and Ochako in the fic are super compelling!

This is fluffy togachako established relationship oneshot has some gorgeous poetic prose that makes for an evocative read! It also just was such a soft vibe to it that makes this fic feel like a warm hug every time I read it.

I love this songfic so much!!! It utilizes a vignette style to hit some really poignant notes by giving glimpses it Himiko and Ochako’s past as childhood friends which is later contrasted by their reunion in the present day. The fic packs a punch with some excellent hurt/comfort.

This is some absolutely gut-wrenching hurt/comfort with parallels between togachako and dabihawks. I think it's one of the best togachako fics I've read in a while.

5K-15K

An absolutely stellar role reversal fic that stays true to Ochako's and Himiko's characterizations as their lives take a very different trajectory. Ochako's desperation as she tries to fight against the metaphorical shackles tying her down and the pressure the HPSC puts on Himiko makes this story so engaging. This fic was the VERY FIRST togachako fic I ever read and to this day it holds up as one of my all-time favorites!!!!

While I have not read this fic yet (it’s been on my TBR for ages), my main enabler for all things femslash has been singing this fic’s highest praises. According to her, this is an excellent fic to read to get into the togachako ship since it hits many key tropes for the ships (e.g. Ochako’s sapphic internal panic) and strikes the perfect balance between being a meaty enough fic to thoroughly explore the ship while still remaining a one-shot. Also this fic has Greek mythology elements :3

Greater than 15K

This is THE Togachako fic - if you haven't heard of it already, believe me if you mention this fic in a group of togachako enthusiasts, people will start gushing about it immediately. The villain/hero dynamic is so fun in this with a lot of excellent toxic Yuri tension - and OMG Ochako's characterization is great in this (there is this one flashback scene from her childhood that still lives rent-free in my mind XD). And there are so many good interpretations like Ochako's past relationships with Izuku and Tsu that just HIT. Also, the smut is EVERYTHING - I really want to go into details but I'll hold back because it's so much more fun if it's a surprise.

There are a million things I could say about this fic but I will try to keep it brief. This is a Revolutionary Girl Utena and MHA crossover that expertly explores themes of repression, gender, storytelling and what it means to be a hero. Taking advantage of MHA’s large cast, this fic not only does a fantastic job with togachako’s characterization but also does a great job of getting to the core of the side character’s motives and perception of the world. Also, the fic ticks so many quintessential togachako boxes (everything from Himiko being repressed to Ochako’s resilience and unconditional care for Himiko). AND THE FORMATTING OMG!!!!! This fic takes workskin shenanigans to the next level!!! I’m still thinking about the stroke of coding genius in the final chapter. Like y’all would not believe the amount of brainrot this fic induced. Anyways, as someone who has not watched Utena yet I can vouch that this fic reads well regardless of whether you have watched RGU or not :3

notes: yet another little au that won't leave my brain, but at least I'm writing again, so... a win is a win! maybe I'll do something more with it (one-shot?), maybe not, time will tell!

Dabi is the owner of Clandestine Books and Beverages, a small bookstore and coffeeshop that lies on a street corner on an ordinary street corner in a medium sized city

it doesn't really look like anything too special, your standard cozy store with dark mahogany shelves and too many plants and nice big windows that lets in the sunlight of the few days it doesn't rain around there

also, the owner is pretty damn grumpy

to be fair, he got really tired of people trying to flirt with him when he first opened the store

having white hair, turquoise eyes and being a member of the Todoroki family, mixed with the fact that he has this dark and mysterious aura going with the whole bookstore owner thing made people kinda crazy

but rumor got out pretty fast that flirting with him got you nothing but an uncomfortable stare of death

at first, he really built his clientele on having a lot of rare books, and if he didn't have what you were looking for, he would find a way to get it for you

when his friend from college approached him about the idea of starting off a small coffeeshop in the store, however, the customers really started pouring in

Tenko might be a bit awkward and strange, but he makes the best coffee in town, hell, maybe in all of Japan

pretty soon, Touya had to accept his fated hire a few other employees

...he hired two of his friends, but hey, he still did it, so it counts

Spinner was kinda hesitant, he was nervous that having a animorph working for him would set Touya and Tenko back, but they wouldn't hear a word of it

now, Spinner actually knows a lot about literature, and while he's a little shy, he's also great with the customers

also he gets to look at Tenko all day, which is worth more than the paycheck for him lol

Toga, on the other hand, didn't really care about books if they weren't overdramatic romance novels, but her sunny disposition did wonders with the customers

one of Touya's favorite things about the stores location was how close it was to UA High, where his youngest brother was enrolled in the hero program

now, Shouto is 18 now, and he has a hero license and all that jazz, and he's taller than Touya, whatever, he's still his little brothe r and Touya enjoys the chance to judge all of his brothers friends when he brings them there for coffee

sadly for Touya, most of his brothers friends are pretty cool

however, because of the close proximity to UA, another hero have started hanging around the shop lately, and it's annoying Touya to no end

Touya obviously knows who Hawks is, he's a pretty popular and successful hero, and the big, red wings are a dead big giveaway

at first, Keigo had just gone to the bookstore and coffeehouse because Tokoyami insisted they had the best coffee in town, but his eyes met the owners eyes once, and that was that

which frankly feels like some form of cosmic joke, that Keigo had spend his whole life without having crushes on people, and the one time he gets one, it's on the most unapproachable and grumpy guy ever

normally Keigo is pretty good at talking to people, and he gets along just fine with the other employees, but just one steely game from Touya and he freezes

so naturally, he hangs around the store constantly now

Spinner and Toga is secretly telling him about all of Touya's favorite books etc to give him an edge, but it doesn't help much when Keigo is too busy looking at Touya over the books to actually read

once Touya actually caught him looking over at him while holding a book upside-down

Touya will never admit it, but he's starting to get used to having the big bird there, and might even get a little bit sad on the days he doesn't stop by

when Shouto mentions that he wants to find a weekend job to make some of his own money while still in school, Touya tries to make him come work for him

but Shouto declines, saying that it's too easy to just work for his brother

Touya damn near loses his mind when Shouto shows up at Tenko's coffee bar

according to Shouto, that's more than far enough removed from his brother for it to count as a real job

it doesn't help when Shouto's green haired friend starts hanging out there every day Shouto works, mooning over his brother very obviously

...obvious to everyone but Shouto, who is obviously feeling the same, but has no idea

and when Izuku starts bringing his friend with the brown hair and rosy cheeks whom Toga has a huge crush on, there's almost too much crushes around him for Touya to be able to stand being at work

...including his own
