The funniest thing about Dabi's Dance? The League of Villains' pretty underwhelming reaction.

Think about it for a second: They've been traveling with this guy for the better part of a year, and aside from the occasional outburst of anger, Dabi's a pretty levelheaded, calm guy. He doesn't say much and when he does, it's usually a snarky remark about somebody in the same room. Even up against their enemies, he's pretty cold and calculated. For the most part, he seems bored and socially checked out.

But then they get to Jaku City and the first thing he does is dump a whole bottle of bleach on his head (where was he keeping that?), scream out a completely unhinged speech to his father and brother about how he's been planning his vengeance for years, and then he starts dancing like a drunk person.

All of that is so out of left field and so wildly out of character...but they're only takeaway is the fact he's Endeavor's son.

That is hilarious.

Personally, if the calmest, most collected person I knew in real life suddenly started freaking out like that, I'd be worried about a head injury, drug use, or a nervous breakdown. But hey, maybe they were so distracted by unconscious Shigaraki, unresponsive Machia, and the real possibility they were all about to be caught that they just wrote off what he was doing for the moment.

"The fuck is Dabi doing? Whatever, at least he's upright and breathing."

In that scenario, I feel bad for Spinner.

Toga wasn't there. (Seriously, what did they tell her when she came back and asked what she missed?)

Compress got arrested. (Actually, I'm half-convinced he got arrested on purpose just to get away from Dabi after that incident.)

Shigaraki had just about been taken over by AFO.

Twice was dead.

After the dust settled and he had a chance to process, Spinner had nobody to discuss how insane that all was. He's just there with AFO/Shigaraki with no idea what to think about that development, Toga who's upset over what happened with Uraraka, and Dabi being a shirtless mood in front of a fireplace.

So, i just reread dabis dance after like 4 years, i think? after seeing how it all plays out, indulging in fanwork, watching bits and pieces of the anime, I've learned something.

my takeaway is that touya is a dramatic little shit who loves musical theatre. the dude literally dances around while talking about how his father abused him.

tell me that is not a theatre nerd???

thoughts on dabi's identity reveal

i love dabi's identity reveal, it's the most dramatic thing he could have done and i love him for that.

but

i wish it had a bigger impact. of course this is obviously bc horikoshi decided the end of the todoroki storyline needed to focus on endeavor. but let's ignore that and pretend it's just because this reveal happened in the middle of a national crisis.

so what if touya had decided to do his identity reveal on a random day?

think about it. the sun is shining, the birds are singing, everything is fine. and then, out of nowhere, every single billboard and tv channel broadcast dabi's video (same as canon, without the "hawks killed twice" thing, perhaps replaced by dabi revealing he's been in contact with hawks or something). it only takes mere minutes for everyone to be aware of what's going on, and now all eyes are on touya.

1-A is in the dorms when this happens, it feels like a repeat of the endeavor vs high end fight. shouto is a mess, no one understand what's happening, even aizawa is confused as fuck.

meanwhile, endeavor is in his agency. he's watching the whole video from his computer, completely flabbergasted. even if he wants to claim dabi is a liar doing this for attention, but he knows deep down he'd be lying to himself.

hawks is watching everything too. he feels like his entire life has been a lie. the hero who saved him for his abuser ends up being an abuser too. (can you tell i hate how hawks always remains a endeavor fanboy in canon?)

during this shit show happens, dabi wanders around, burn a ything with endeavor's face in it, and watches how civilians are reacting. he's focusing on that while deciding if he'll go to endeavor's agency right after the end of his little broadcast, or if he'll let the information sink in.

it took 24 years but he finally got what he wanted. all eyes were on him. no one would ever be able to throw him aside and ignore him. he stills wants to keep on his suicide mission - it's either him or endeavor - but at least he got to enjoy having the attention for a while.

so yeah, touya is a dramatic little shit who wanted the attention that he deserved.

Summary: “My life is a nightmare,” Dabi muttered blankly.

“Nah, this is hilarious,” Hawks said, and while he wasn’t explicitly laughing, Dabi knew that those weird little chirps he was letting out were pointed at him. “Imagine if we go through all this effort and you don’t even have some sort of dramatic background or tragic backstory to justify you being this emo, you’re just a hot topic junkie or something.”

“That’s fucking worse.”

Or,

Dabi has amnesia and keeps reading conspiracy theories about himself in an attempt to figure out who he is, gets the League in on it, and they dismantle organized crime, revolutionize society, and ravage the hero system in the process. Hawks suffers.

Review: Oh my god, this is hilarious! The idea of the LOV 'accidently' making the world a better place when the entire time they were trying to figure out Dabi's identity because even ‘Dabi’ couldn't remember it, is genius. I love how the world just thinks they've shifted into vigilantism. A lot more people like them now, and they have no idea because they're so focused on the investigation and never watch the news. Poor Hawks. They cause him no end of trouble. They also inadvertently free him - so there's that. 

Speaking of Hawks... in this AU, Dabi also used to be in the same Commission program as him. They 'were' a couple and continue to be a couple now. This will always be my favorite MHA pairing. 

We still get Dabi's dance and Endeavor exposure as well. Except here it's more funny than it is dramatic with Shigaraki literally laughing in the background and Toga live-streaming it.

kind of annoying how dabi (presumably) screams 'the past never dies!' or at least says it w the same energy as rest of the speech but in the anime it's the part he calms down (not rlly, but u get what i mean). like come on, 'the past never dies!' is ABSOLUTELY the kind of line you should say shouting and screaming and kicking and fuming and biting with all your soul. his jp va ate tho. that guy is a treasure.

This has been in my head since around the first time I saw dabi dancing and I finally got around to making it!

i want to share one of the stupidest plot point ideas i have ever written down for a fanfic in my history of fanfic writing.

so everyone knows those "oh shit im THAT character now??"/"OH MY GOD IM IN THE WORLD OF [INSERT BOOK/SHOW]" fanfics, right?

well, one of my favorite things i've ever written for one of those fanfics was this:

two people, one kid and one adult, were reincarnated into a superhero manga world (idk why im being vague about it lol but i think a lot of the people who stumble across this post would figure it out sooner or later). they had nothing in common but the fact they were reincarnated here together (and that they were being used as pawns for a war between two reincarnation hosting deities but that's another story for later) but they had to find some type of unique code that they would remember because there was a shape shifting villain on the loose and they were realizing a lot of their codes were easier to figure than they thought.

they go through everything before realizing they're both extremely into nerdcore rap. so they just decide, "hey, since we're in this universe, what if we use lyrics from the raps about this universe? it'll totally be unique and won't backfire at all!"

it backfired. majorly. if i had to describe it in a chekov like way, i accidentally placed a gun upon the mantel and then took it off just to show it off but accidentally shot two bullets into the wall while i was at it.

they screamed at each other lyrics that contained wordplay based on the identity of a supervillain that they were absolutely not supposed to mention until later on in the series. they destroyed one of the biggest reveals in the series (in series obviously, the out of series reaction was why they forgot it was so big.) just by a silly line.

so yeah that was funny especially as the aftermath of them realizing they also just wrecked their own reveals that they were from another world (they expected it to be emotional, tender, and heart-warming) with that line and then arguing over who wrecked the reveal.
