I can't be the first person to think or expound on this buuuuuuuut... Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the elves. The spoiler I'm about to drop without a Read More cut. Do I have enough spoiler tags? Listen.
About how we found out in DA:TV that elves originally came from spirits. Sure, there was a bit of teasing Davrin about coming from a spirit, and asking if Spite could become an elf. But imagine the intra-elven shenanigans if their origin became widely known? Do you suppose that elves would try to do spirit geneology to find out what variety of spirit their family was descended from? It's probably too far lost to history for any modern elf to ever seriously trace a direct lineage, but would it stop them from trying? Or pretending to?
"Actually, my family comes from an especially strong spirit of justice," or, "Ishvallin's just like that because his kin came from a spirit of envy." Or, "Hey babe, how would you feel about getting with a curiosity spirit kind of guy?" etc. etc. etc.
BUT ALSO, is this what Solas meant when he told a romanced Lavellan, "you have a rare and marvelous spirit"? That line always kind of stuck out, but! Does she? actually have some kind of great Fade pedigree?

me: i sure hope the crows are not gonna be solely depicted in veilguard as a brave force who 'fight for all' when they are at their core a criminal organization who is known to buy children to indoctrinate them and turn them into assassins, by putting them in overcrowded warehouses and making them fight for scrapes in order not to starve, to later torture those who reach adulthood to finish their initiations and kill them anyways if they dare to try getting out

Before Veilguard's release I was theorizing the Veilguard companion characters might have been designed to be parallels to the known Evanuris, but I couldn't place all of them.
Now that I've played the game (almost twice) I think I've figured them all out.
Rook - Elgar'nan, the leader. Controller of light and dark. The one who influences the others.
Neve - Mythal, who can be a fierce protector or a source of inspiration and hope.
Harding - Andruil, the hunter, who went mad from the Void and had to fight her way back
Bellara - June, the inventor. Master of magical artifact.
Lucanis - Dirthamen, keeper of secrets, who mastered the twin ravens of Fear and Deceit, and returned from death.
Davrin - Ghilan'nain, Master of Monsters, Keeper of Halla.
Emmrich - Falon'Din, the necromancer. Friend of the dead.
Taash - Sylaise, who's fire cannot be quenched.
Which leaves Solas to play the role he always has - Fen'Harel, the trickster and betrayer, who could ally with them, if only they will listen to his advice and try to protect their world as best as they can.

Origins: Only the Magisters have ever walked physically in the Fade. Such a feat has never been repeated, and the hubris of their actions unleashed an ancient evil on the world that terrorises Thedas to this day. Inquisition: Your trip through the Fade at Adamant was unprecedented and dangerous and we should make sure no-one does it again. Veilguard: 12 bedroom Fade Flat for Rent, 300 Sovreigns/month

.... Anyone else flashback to the banters between Solas and Bull in Inquisition where they played a mental chess game and Solas won because of a play with a pawn? And how he slowly inched that pawn across the board during those banters? (Like he positions Rook and helps slowly "inch" them across the "board" to checkmate the Gods?)
Or about the banters between Solas and Sera about the Friends of Red Jenny, and how he couldn't really wrap his mind around the group's entire goal just being help in small ways without any significant goal truly in mind? (Like how he couldn't wrap his mind around facing, accepting, and processing regrets the way Rook does to escape the Fade prison because he's always thinking too big picture and grand purposes)
Or, perhaps one of the most interesting, the banters between Solas and Varric about Orzammar and how it is in the current time of the games? (And how all the questions Solas asks echoes or points to both what happened to the Elvhen empire and what he intends to do to try to fix his mistake?)
Or the banter where Viv asks if Solas enjoys seeing himself as the villain? And their banters discussing the Circle, and Viv's political prowess, and how "in another age" she "would've ruled an empire?"
Or banters with Dorian about spirits and magic, and how they are used in Tevinter? And on slavery in general? (And how those conversations are a very big part of Dorian actually thinking about the slaves in Tevinter in a meaningful way)
Or with Cassandra about the burdens of leadership and how Cass stepped aside from leading/making decisions for the Inquisition as a whole cause she recognized/felt she wasn't the one to wield such power? Or the one where Cass wonders if the Archdemons are "pets" to beings who no longer exist?
Anyone else thinking about the banters that weren't with Cole about spirits and how to "ground" one's self in the real world, or with Blackwall about being men that have seen war and done cruel things and have had to live a lie until caught in the lie? But were more about the nuances of lives lived and currently being lived; and the status quo and how it was vs how it is vs how it maybe should be; and the very core of his being and true beliefs and how he could find some kind of echo of each with the members of the Inquisition, reflecting and foiling in turn?
Just me? Cool, cool, cool

Going mildly insane over Emmrich and Johanna's messed-up friendship.
He knows that only the most selfless should become liches; he would have helped her if she'd asked. They were students together. Her confidence in the face of death made him feel braver. She keeps saying she's going to kill him, but despite ample opportunity to track him down and do so, they only ever fight when he comes looking for her. She used to beg him to play tabletop games with her. He's the only person she has any respect for. She makes the most half-assed possible attempt to kill him when they reunite (trapping the Fade expert in the Fade???) She invites all her enemies to a murder party, but not him. (Was it really too much of a risk, Johanna? Or could you just not bring yourself to?)
She never seems actually prepared to kill him, but he is prepared to kill her. He calls her by her first name. She only ever uses his surname. She mocks him if he's in a relationship with Rook, but then says she'll bury him and his new lover in the same grave, like he said he wanted one time 30 years ago. He keeps her skull in his room. She does nothing but heckle him. He keeps her there anyway.
She monologues about how he's weak, pathetic, a bleeding heart, but when she learns that the world is on the brink of apocalypse, she demands, 'Get Volkarin on it!'
He is one of the kindest men in Thedas, and she is a monster, and they cannot stop loving each other. Who the fuck is doing it like them.
