VALGRACE ANGST!!!!

I just wrote this, and I’m gonna post it now before I can change my mind.

Summary: Jason tells Leo “I love you”- Angst ensues.

CW: Swearing, Angst (Have I mentioned there’s angst?)

“I love you.”

The words were a barely audible whisper in the dark, but Leo definitely heard them. He squirmed, wriggling away from Jason’s clutches.

“No… it’s not true… I don’t believe you.”

Jason’s face fell. He tried to step towards Leo, but Leo backed away.

“Leo-“ Jason began, then hesitated. “Shit, sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out, I- I just-“

“It- it’s not true,” Leo repeated. Fear flashed in his eyes.

“It is true, Leo. Maybe it’s a little too early to say it, I dunno, but I mean it. I love you.”

“Liar!” Leo yelled, “How- How can anyone…”

“Leo…”

“It’s not true. Jason, say it’s not true. Take it back. Take it back!”

Jason didn’t understand why Leo was acting this way. He’d really thought that Leo would be pleased- “I love you” is a good thing, right? And he’d hoped Leo had felt the same way, although he didn’t wanna pressure him to say it back. But for Leo to pull away from him, begging him to take those words back, words that Jason had filled with so much feeling and emotion-

“How can you say that you… love me?” Leo said, “What is there to love?”

“What? Leo-“

“I’m nothing-“ Leo cried, “I’m just a broken mess. You don’t love me.”

“Leo, listen-“

“You think you might be in love with me but you’re not, Jason. You just… you only love the person I pretend to be. If you saw who I am inside… you’d run. You’d abandon me just like everyone else did. Just like they’ll always do.”

Jason didn’t know what to do. Leo was backed against the wall now, his big brown eyes welling with tears. He looked so… frightened. Jason felt horrible. He’d totally freaked Leo out with his confession.

“Leo…” Jason dropped his voice to a calm, assuring whisper, “I do love you. I see who you are behind that mask, your faults, your insecurities. I don’t care. I don’t care that you’re a mess. I don’t care that you’re broken. I love you.”

“Take it back!”

“I won’t take it back, Leo. I lo-”

“TAKE IT BACK, JASON!!!!” Leo screamed, “Please… I lost Festus. I lost my mom. I lost everyone who ever claimed they loved me. I don’t wanna lose you too.”

“No, Leo…”

“I’m cursed, Jason,” Leo said, “You can’t fall in love with someone like me. It will only doom you to failure. I-I can’t allow myself to love you back. I can’t take comfort in you knowing that I’m hurting you.”

“Leo, you’re not cursed,” Jason told him, “You could never hurt me.”

“Just like how I could never hurt my mom?” Leo yelled, “All I do is hurt, Jason. All I do is destroy. How can you love something like that?”

Nothing Jason could do would comfort Leo. He wouldn’t let him touch him, would deny any attempts to reassure him. Jason felt absolutely helpless. But he was not taking those words back. He meant every syllable.

“I love you.”

“No-”

“I love you.”

“Jason, why are you doing this?” Leo pleaded, “Just go. Leave. Save yourself.”

“I love you.”

Leo just sobbed. He crumpled to the ground. Jason crouched down next to him, pulling him into his arms and cradling him as he shook.

“I love you.”

His voice was barely a whisper. Leo’s breathing was shaky and shallow.

“No…” Leo whimpered, weaker this time. Jason grieved for the boy in his arms, for his inability to take comfort in words like that. For his loss of joy and hope- how he depended on a fake persona to feel like he deserved love. For how he refused to believe anyone could truly see him. Jason wanted more than anything for Leo to feel happy at his confession of love, he wanted Leo to experience the same joys as he felt when he was close to him, but it will forever be tainted with fear for Leo.

“I love you.”

He sat, holding Leo’s tiny trembling body as he sobbed.

And then, Leo said it. He uttered that dreaded incantation that he was convinced would seal Jason’s fate. Jason could hear the melancholy and mourning in Leo’s voice. They were meant to be wonderful, joyous words, but Leo said them with such fear and regret.

“I… I love you too.”

He confessed the terrible truth, and his words rang out like a funeral bell.

Ein so wundervolles Setting und an einem Ort, der auf meiner eigenen Bucket List steht. Generell liebe ich es, wenn es Orte abseits der 0-8-15-Reiseziele sind. Und sowieso liebe ich einfach den Schreibstil und die Art, an Geschichten heranzugehen. Immer wieder gerne gelesen, wenn es was für Herzschmerz mit Happy End sein soll.

Eine der ersten Stories, die ich in dem Fandom gelesen habe und auch heute noch gern gelesen, wenn das Fernweh kickt.

The fun would begin in a few minutes, but Mithra needed to gather her adversaries first. She knew just how she was going to claim them.

She strolled into the tavern and right up to Sera with her hands tucked 'innocently' behind her back. "It’s nice to have more elves like me around."

Sera wrinkled her nose and crossed her arms. “Eugh! Go on with that elfy shite.” 

“Shame. You seemed like fun," she cooed.

"More fun than you an’ Droop-" Mithra smashed a snowball in her face and took off.

Sera sputtered, then cracked up as she charged after her. "Oh! You're dead, 'Lady' Herald!"

Mithra didn't even stop to chat with Solas. She pegged him in the chest and dashed through the alley toward the Chantry.

He stared at the snow on his sweater with wide eyes, then saw Sera packing a snowball while running after her and chuckled.

Mithra saw Josephine and Leliana chatting just ahead and slid to a halt, then faced Sera and lined herself up just so. When Sera fired, Mithra dropped to her knees and the ball sailed straight at Josephine. 

When she was struck in the side of the head, Mithra laughed and whirled back up to feet. She launched one at Leliana’s ass and dashed away while Sera packed another ball.

She headed straight for Varric's usual spot, then leapt off the wall and let three fly. As they exploded on his chest, she rolled into her landing and popped back up to her feet.

Why I'm reccing it: It was written for my birthday yesterday. 7K+ of brilliant writing for the Rebirth-era JLI I've been writing in Stardust. And it absolutely is about the themes of resurrection and the struggle of having been dead, but now not, and all of that without even really remembering it for real. But the scars are there, fairly or un.

Dara writes the best Guy I've ever seen, and I've loved him for two damn decades. Her love of him shines right through every bit of narrative with him. She also manages to write both Bea and Tora so expertly that like-- DC oughta hire her, because she blows anyone they have right out of the water with that threesome.

(Also, she has a scene in there with Guy and Milagro and the Reyes family that is so perfect I read it about ten times in a row.)

All in all, even though it was written off of Stardust and for my birthday, it's a wholly worthy story on its own, too.

Hey by the way, what basically inspired me to do my in character journal for Stellan (and over all just a lot of my choices for him) was the fic Accursed Ones of AO3.

It’s Dragon Age Awakening and Dragon Age 2 from Anders’ perspective with accompanying side stories from other characters perspectives. It’s extremely good and interesting (though I don’t agree with all the headcanons and ships). Either way, it inspired me a lot, specifically their Warden Amell. Plus throughout the story, Amell has a journal and a grimiore which we see bits and pieces of, which helped me figure out somewhat what I wanted to do for the journal.

I greatly recommend it, but know that I cried for like 20 chapters straight (30-50 I believe) and it’s still being updated. Fantastic read so far though.

(Really struggling to link it so I’m sorry, but looking up Accursed Ones by TheThirdAmell on AO3 should work)

Reccomended fic: Fellow Heretics

I discovered this fic by happenstance when the writer commented on one of my fics and fell in love with their Lavellan, Revos! The author has an excitement and love for Dragon Age that shines through, particularly in their criticism of the source material's handling of the tranquil. I've loved so far how they weave the Dalish love n respect for their mages into Revos' perspective and his backstory has unfolded in so many fun, unexpected pieces. It's a real treat to read!

Sorry i have to go off on my Squall/Seifer tangent (that nobody cares about)🤣

It's one of my oldest ship and it still has an incredible hold on me...and in fact it resurfaces every now and then.

FF8 is one of the titles in the series that I liked the least and the one that would most need a remake🤔

They say that something flawed offers much more food for thought or desire to explore it better and this is very true, I'm still here lol

It has so many good things...but they have been assembled a bit...😬 That's exactly the problem, there is really so much stuff and some things are set aside during the story to make room for the 'important stuff'. Things that shouldn't be set aside.

Like Seifer.

It's a real shame because right from the splendid Op (one of the best ever) it shows you their strong bond. He and Squall are perfect opposites, two sides of the same coin. Both could have ended up in the other's situation.

Loneliness and rejection shaped them since they were little and they reacted to it differently depending on their nature.

They are both war orphans who were not adopted because of their 'difficult' personalities.

And then they were forced to become soldiers.

Squall doesn't care, he doesn't care about anything, so this situation is as good as any other. Seifer on the other hand is much more romantic and passionate! The military academy is too restrictive for him, he doesn't like taking orders.

If you really stop to think about it, Squall is appreciated because he follows orders to the letter without complaining (except internally lol) and without expressing opinions. Seifer despised for his excessive personality and individuality.

But he didn't want to become a soldier.

He always fails because following orders without thinking is not for him.

And it's incredibly sad how afterwards, his romantic dream is distorted and shattered. Always reduced to being up to the 'role' and knowing how to execute and complete orders.

Another kind of soldier.

Both make me very sad once you discard the whole anime-style fake high school part.

But thinking about Seifer makes me feel especially bad because he's on the side of the 'bad guys' of the 'losers' and will always go down in history as a wicked and heartless war criminal. A failure.

Always 'wrong' inside.

Both he and Squall have been given far too much responsibility and power for their ages. And no real choices.

They are only 17 and 18 years old and are commanders of their respective faction's armies 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠

And that's why the role they gave Seifer in the KH universe moved me.

He's not despised, he has his friends beside him and is living his life in peace, happy😭😭😭😭😭

There are many great fics but the one that I love the most and that I continue to reread year after year when I think about these two is 'The Summer Soldier'. Imo the best to interprets what can happen after the end of the game. And Cid takes both responsibility for the Garden and his role as a father figure. A real rarity lol 😂😂😂😂😂
