Fic Recs - Expanding Hyrule Bingo!

If you're looking for some hot fresh recs that you may not have seen before, boy do I have the post for you!

For the last few days, I have been compiling answers for the @expanding-hyrule TBR Bingo Community Challenge! If this is the first time you're hearing of it, EH is a LoZ fandom project that intends to popularize a tag and create an archive for Original Legends, or LoZ fics, art, etc that create their own version of Hyrule, characters therein, and plot different from the canon games. The Bingo Challenge is a project to get people viewing and talking about more of these stories!

Temperature!

Obvs the demons are toasty toasty warm to the touch. They're made of fire and flesh and live in the burning hells. They're the warm ones.

It's tempting to make angels overly-hot, like, painfully hot to the touch, but also I think it works thematically if they're uncomfortably chilly. The opposite of hell, of course, but also they're living metal with a bit of plasma rocking around inside. Yeah, the wings I'm sure are blazing hot. But the metal could be just as cold as any other metal. Or rather, completely subject to whatever environment they're in at the moment.

So, freezing cold in Heaven, kinda cool on Sanctuary, and hot as hell in Hell.

Humans are generally quite warm.

But, nephalem? Maybe they just go the direction of whatever parent they favor. It was implied in D3 that some nephalem are more demon than angel, and presumably vice versa.

All those people with cold hands and shit circulation? Congratulations, your bloodline is slightly more holy than others. Always hot no matter what you do? Well, you've probably got more demons in the family tree.

I'm only bringing this up bcuz I think it'd be fun if Rathma runs hot even for a nephalem. He's mama's boy (given that dad didn't even want to make him in the first place) with mama's temperature.

He's hot-blooded.

All Aksys 2024 Stream Thoughts

So I thought I’d recap all the info Aksys has given us and my thoughts on each game announced to release. Now these aren’t really going to be reviews on games or first impressions, but rather gaging my excitement for upcoming titles. I did have a full day of work plus a staff meeting the day this dropped, but it’s been a few days since and I’ve had plenty of time to collect my thoughts!

Before we start though, let’s go over my predictions, hopes, and pre-stream thoughts.

Pre-Stream Thoughts

1) Aksys does more than otome titles. While I’m definitely looking forward to the otome announcements, I also am anticipating their other announcements for other games. I am mostly focusing on otome here, but I’m going to cover the entire stream reveals.

2) Most of my hopes I know are very unlikely, I just like to add them for fun and also to show there’s at least a tiny bit of interest.

Predictions

I think it’s safe to say we’ll get the fandiscs for Virche Evermore and Radiant Tale. I’ll be shocked if neither are announced. I don’t have many predictions other than that as I have no clue what goes on with picking what gets localized when and where between Aksys and IFI. I’ve seen a lot of people saying 9 RIP as one, and I’ll agree and say I think it’ll come out here in the west.

Hopes

These are all titles I won’t be upset to here nothing from. First, I would absolutely love for anything from Heart no kuni no Alice to be localized. The movie is what initially brought me into the genre, and while I know there’s a fan translation out there I would love an official release of a title. Second, as much as I hate most the Diabolik Lovers characters, that needs a port. It’s easily the most well known title of the genre out here and it’s criminal we haven’t gotten a port. I’ve played a title using a fan translation but only played the good ending of one route and a third of another. Third, another unlikely one but anything from UtaPri please I’m begging. I love the anime and if I could read Japanese I guarantee you all I would have played these games by now but sadly I can’t. We have Jack Jeanne as well now so I’m hoping there’s a bit more incentive one day for either Aksys or IFI to localize the series even partially. Next, any of the vita exclusive localizations. I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to play Bad Apple Wars. To wrap up otome hopes, Clock Zero. I’ve been wanting to play this one for a while. My last hopes section title, Agarest war switch ports. We have Agarest War 1, so I’m hoping we can get Zero or 2 next. I will buy these titles for a third time I’m not joking.

Stream thoughts

Death Mark 2: Looks like an interesting title! I’m probably not going to play this game, but I’m going to wishlist it in case I do decide to play it.

Tengoku Struggle Stray Side: OH MY GOD IM SO EXCITED! I have been wanting to play this game since I first learned about it, I am so excited about this! I’m buying it as soon as it releases.

Blazing Strike: I’m not big on fighting games, but I like the art!

Collectible Cards: I don’t buy physicals of most Aksys games so I don’t have any cards, but it’s nice they’re listening to their audience about them!

Tokyo Xanadu eX+: This trailer is a nice animatic, I like the song playing in the background. I find it silly that twitch muted part of the VOD here for copyright when it’s the official Aksys channel. I’m not sure whether I’ll buy it or not seeing as I have no clue what this game is.

Despera Drops: Unfortunately the VOD is still muted here, but this game seems interesting! I didn’t know if it was an otome but I thought it was, I looked it up to double check though to be safe. I’m surprised D3 Publisher isn’t publishing it themselves. Little frustrating it’s a 2025 release though.

Tales from Toyotoki: My connection decided to fight me right here and I kept getting frustrated. The fact that most this trailer is only Japanese was frustrating in the sense of I don’t speak Japanese so I couldn’t understand it. Would of been nice to have some subtitles since this is a stream directed towards English speaking audiences. I’ll probably grab it and play it.

Radiant Tale Fanfare: LET’S GO! I’m finishing up Radiant Tale right now so this is incredibly exciting. We all knew this one was coming but I’m still excited. I loved most the LIs here, so this is a huge excitement for me. Spoilers to my future review, but at time of stream Radie’s my fav so I am looking forward to his the most. I’m so excited for the Jinnia and Liyan what if routes too! Summer release date let’s go!

Virche Evermore -Epic:Lycoris-: AND THE VIRCHE FANDISC AFTER? Another we knew, but I am also literally playing through this game during stream. Now, I’m not as far so I am kinda checking out for this trailer when I feel necessary to avoid anything I don’t know. As always, Virche has god tier music, and I’m excited for this game too. I didn’t release that’s how you say the country’s name or Virche though.

Final thoughts: Aksys has some good titles coming out! I’m excited mostly on the otome front! I know people are going to be disappointed over no 9 RIP, but oh well maybe one day!

For a terrifying moment, all Katarina sees is the axe hurtling toward her, water and panic working against her as she moves too slow, too slow-- and then it vanishes. Never mind that they sit at the ocean floor, the mage sucks in a breath, her hand working disbelievingly across her throat and collarbone. All intact, or so it would seem.

In the back of her mind there tolls a distant laughter, a harmony of strings singing their single chord as more enemies take to the field. Her companions adjust quickly, and well, but their new foes are ruthless. The creature from before swims near her, catching her in its current and pulling her away as the heat from the rampaging chariot -- inexplicably afire-- blazes past her, its course set for the most helpless among them.

Hippocampus uses Fountain Lotus on Katarina 9/10HP. Katarina heals +2HP (Katarina 10/10HP)

"Professor--!" Though the water enveloping her feels tranquil, almost pleasantly cool, her chest seizes with worry. This denizen of the deep -- although she does not know it, it acts more as friend than foe. A hand settles at the creature's shoulder, curling around one of the spines that comprises its mane. "Please," she begs, "help me save him...!"

The creature nickers, or something not unlike it, shrugging her onto its shoulder and swimming toward the monk. The pressure seems to build the closer they come, but their enemies retreat back into formation, driven further back by an azure blur, and Katarina reaches out to grab him.

Omen activates! Katarina -1HP (Katarina 9/10HP) Blue Iguana is summoned to the field! [D3 Roll: 3] Katarina 9/10HP gains one stack of Azure Spike. Katarina 9/10HP [Azure Spike: 2] rallies Azama! +6 speed, +4 dexterity, and +4 avoid for one full round. Ruse activates! Chad gains +3 speed, +2 dexterity, and +2 avoid for one full round.

Caspar frowns as well, shoulders squaring up at the sight of such a pitiful feigned attack. "Hey, don't look down on us! We came here for an actual fight! Show 'em, Fulghog!" The beast chatters its teeth, its spines flashing bright as it trundles forward on short little legs. The sparks that dance along its body all coalesce into one great bolt.

Fulghog moves 1 to D3 and uses Thunder Shock against Kankersaur Kankersaur takes 34 damage and is Paralyzed.

"Come on Srizzly, you too!" The bear eyes up the sheer size of its opponent and lets out a tiny groan of discontent. Flames are summoned to its paws, only to be tossed haphazardly across the beach as the animal flees with labored breaths. The blaze dies out long before it reaches any target.

Srizzly uses Will o Wisp on Kankersaur and misses, then moves 1 to B2

"No, if you're gonna attack you've got to commit!" Srizzly huffs lightly. Caspar sighs, rubbing a palm against the back of his neck. "He gets…nervous."

Request: Hi hey hello!!! I love your work so much it’s so well written!! Could you do and one set during D3 where Hook and (y/n) are in love and the Knights of “Knight Fall” wind up taking (y/n) back to Audrey as a bargaining chip for the VK’s and Harry. Harry gets angsty and really pissed, The VK’s try to calm down Harry but Harry is ready to meet any of Audrey’s demands and there’s possibly an argument with the VK’s where he finally admits he loves (y/n). Flash forward to the fight scene and instead of Celia, Audrey has a unconscious (y/n). Long story short, Mal wins, and Harry RACES up the tower to get (y/n). He’s worried she won’t wake up, then she does. And all is well.

You couldn’t believe your own eyes.

The sight before and around you, it was... it was unlike anything you’d ever seen. Having grown up on the Isle, Auradon seemed like a far-away dream that it would never come to life. And yet, here you were, stood amongst greens and blues and pinks and just every colour that seemed like a dull imitation back on the Isle.

Then, something catches your attention out of the corner of your eye and with a gasp, you rush towards one of the bushes. With hesitance and a gentle hand, you let your fingertips trace along the object that managed to catch your attention. The beautiful pale blue colour was what had caught your attention at first, but upon closer inspection you realized it was so much more.

There was so much detail within the small thing. Things that looked like leafs protruding from the middle, and when you leaned in, you were hit with a pleasant smell.

With sparkling eyes, you turn to Evie; “what is this?”

Evie turns to you, brows furrowed before her eyes fall on what you’re gently holding. Then, her gaze softens, almost turns pitiful and she smiles warmly your way; “it’s called a flower.”

“A flower,” you whisper, biting your bottom lip.

It was beautiful...

Just then, a hand falls on your lower back, causing you to turn and meet the eyes of Harry. “Look,” you exclaim brightly, eyes twinkling with delight as you gesture in the direction of the flower. “It’s the colour of your eyes.”

There’s a brief moment where Harry just stares back at you, as if caught off by your compliment. But then, his gaze warms and he smiles down at you, pulling you closer. It’s then you notice the hand tucked behind his back. “I brought ye a gift,” he whispers, pulling his hand out from behind his back and presenting you with something coloured green.

Brows furrowed, you pause; “what is it?”

“Apparently, it’s a grape. A fruit.”

“A grape,” you mumble softly, taking the piece of food and popping it in your mouth. You jump slightly as it pops in your mouth, but then, you’re overwhelmed by the flood of juicy-ness that hits all your taste buds. Again, unlike anything you had ever tasted before. “It’s delicious.”

“I know,” Harry grins, smirking down at you. 

“Now I see why my sister kept me locked up on the Isle,” you tease lightly, meeting Harry’s gaze. “I’d just eat all their food.”

“Well, now, you can.”

Smile faltering slightly, you move to grip the collar of Harry’s vest, tugging him closer to you. Your eyes wanders absentmindedly towards the others, noticing that they’re all too busy to even notice you and Harry have wondered off a little. Your eyes lingering on your sisters for a moment longer, regrettably, before you blink, turning back to Harry. “Do you think this is finally it?” You question, your voice quiet as you’re scared of the answer. “We’re finally off that island?”

Harry inhales deeply, eyes flickering around before settling on the edge of his hook, stuck in thought. “Maybe,” he finally shrugs, glancing over his shoulder. You know exactly who his eyes fall on. “I just don’t trust her.”

When you finally got over your initial shock and Mal made it clear you needed to start getting down to business, the lot of you split.

Of course, you’d gone off with Harry. Even if you hadn’t wanted to, which of course you did, Harry wouldn’t had let you go off with your sister anyways. He wanted to keep an eye on you, and even if realistically you would’ve been with Uma, he’d professed it wasn’t the same as personally being there. Thus, that left you with him and Gil and Jay and Carlos left searching for Ben.

“Ben!” Carlos bellows, though his voice really fades to the back of your mind.

You hate to admit it, but your mind just keeps wandering. It’s just different here, compared to the Isle. Of course, you’d always known that. But you’d never known what the other side looked like, and now, being able to compare... It made the whole sting of being left behind by your very own sister ten times worse. How could she never come back for you after she saw what this place looked like?

When she saw how much better it was? Even if you had Harry, still.

“Boy!” Carlos’ talking dog, Dude, exclaim, causing the lot of you to pause. “Something stinks. And this time, it wasn’t me.”

You pause, glancing around before you find yourself jumping at the sound of a loud roar. Your head snaps upwards, eyes landing on... something furry? It’s almost comical at first, but then it lets out another loud roar and swipes it’s hand out in front of itself, causing the lot of you to jump backwards. A hand presses against your stomach, pushing you back and glancing up, you find Harry standing in front of you protectively. 

“Stay back,” he whispers, to which you nod, eyes turning back to the danger that loomed before you.

Jay taps Harry on the shoulder, warning him and allowing him to duck in order to dodge a hit to the face. Then, he lashes forward with his hook, managing to knock the beast back slightly. Only, that reinforces his attention on you.

You freeze when his eyes zone in on your own.

“Y/N!”

With a gasp, you duck, just barely managing a hit to the face, letting out a small scream. You glance back up, trying to gauge where the beast is headed. When he see him moving towards your right, you quickly leap to the right, falling into Harry’s arms as he pulls you back. For a brief second as the beast jumps back, feeling threatened, Harry turns to you, hands cupping your cheeks. “You okay?”

“Yeah,” you nod, breathless.

Turning back to the beast, Harry huffs; “you need some serious nose adjustments.”

“I’m not so sure,” Carlos mumbles, brows furrowed as he extends his hand out towards him slowly. “Ben? Did Audrey do that?”

Ben? The King?

“Huh,” Jay pauses, “I thought I recognized those pants.”

Just then, the beast, or Ben, glances down at his hand, letting out a soft whine. “Oh, he’s got a booboo,” Gil realizes, “that’s why he’s so cranky.”

You instinctively move to reach for Carlos when he takes a step forward, still hesitant. But he doesn’t seem faze, maybe just a little nervous, and continues inching forwards, hands held out before him in surrender. “Ben?”

Just then, a branch cracking somewhere behind you catches you attention. Your head snaps around, still on high-alert, before your eyes settle on... some sort of animal? Mind fading from the conversation at hand, you take a step back from Harry without thinking, trying to think of the animal before you. It almost looked... unicorn like.

Was that what it was? A unicorn?

You glance back briefly, noticing that nothing seems necessarily wrong anymore given that Carlos and Jay have identified the beast as Ben. So, turning back to the unicorn, you let a smile fall on your lips, eyes sparkling. You’ve only ever heard about unicorns in the ripped, torn books that were left on the Isle. None of them had pictures, but it was everything you always imagined it to be.

Inching closer to the animal, you barely notice how far you’ve distanced yourself from Harry and the rest. “Hey,” you call out softly, hands held out before you cautiously. “Hey, it’s okay.”

Two more steps, and you’re finally close enough to touch it. It stands up a little straight, alert, as you hesitantly and slowly reach out for it. But, eventually, your hand falls on the back of it’s neck, your fingers running through it’s mane. “There,” you coo softly, lips curled into a bright grin. “See? I’m not so scary?”

It leans into your touch causing you to let out a soft giggle.

“Well, aren’t you just the cutest?”

A moment passes by, your smile brighter then it’s ever been, before something just feels wrong. It’s sudden, quick, but something inside of you seems to just scream wrong.

The unicorn disappears before your very eyes.

You gasp, hand falling by your side as your eyes widen in horror.

“Aweh.”

Spinning around at the new voice, your eyes fall on a face you don’t recognize. But her eyes scream evil to you. Not to mention, she’s holding your mother’s Scepter.

“Little naive, aren’t we?”

“Forget it. We can’t do that.”

“She’s your sister!”

“Harry, you know we can’t.”

Harry scoffs, shaking his head in disbelief. All he can see is red, and their words aren’t making it any better. Not to mention, his heart is racing like crazy with worry.

“We can’t simply just let her take Auradon,” Mal sighs, shaking her head. “I mean, i’m worried too. But we’ll get Y/N back another way.”

“Another way?” Harry roars, eyes blazing. “Yer sister is stuck somewhere with that lunatic, and ye barely give a damn!” Harry can’t help it, with each word he says, his voice just pitches louder and louder. He can barely hear himself think. All he knows is that he needs to find you and now. He doesn’t care about Auradon or frankly anyone else, in that moment it’s just you.

He should’ve kept a better eye on you. Shouldn’t have let you wandered off like that. It was stupid of him and now he was paying for that mistake.

Because who knows where you were or if you were okay? He didn’t know what that girl was doing to you or what she planned to do to you. All he knows is that there was a way to get you back, right now, safe and sound, and if it meant giving up all of Auradon to do it. Then so be it.

“Harry,” Ben calls, taking a step towards him. Harry feels his anger intensify. “I understand you’re worried about Y/N, but we can’t trade Auradon for one girl--”

“Don’t but me, King,” Harry interrupts, his voice ice cold. He sets his hook on the King’s chest, a silent way of warning him not to take another step forward. Harry doesn’t know what he’ll do if he takes another step forward. He’s already not thinking clearly. “Ye never given a shit about us Isle kids. Ye think yer a hero for bringing over four? Yer not. And now, when ye actually have the chance to prove ye do care, ye do nothing.”

“Harry--”

Harry’s quick to turn, eyes falling on Mal. “And ye. Y/N’s yer sister, or did ye forget? Oh, that’s right, ye have. Because ye left her on the Isle and now’ll yer leaving her again.”

Mal’s eyes widen, lips parting; “I--”

“Harry,” Uma calls out, taking a step forward. Harry feels his anger lessen slightly at the sight of his long time and trusted friend. Surely, she’ll agree with him. “They’re right. We can’t give up the chance of everyone on the Isle being free. We’ll get Y/N back the original way, through the plan.”

Harry feels a sting of betrayal hit him. Eyes narrowing, Harry turns to Mal, gesturing to her with his hook, “ye really think they’re gunna let us all out? Like they’ve had any plans on doing it from the’ beginning?”

Mal’s face says it all.

But Harry decides to push it. “Tell me i’m wrung,” Harry hisses, stepping towards Mal. “Tell me yer actually going to save all those kids and i’ll do it yer way.”

Mal says nothing.

Turning to Uma, Harry lowers his voice, “i’m going to find Y/N, with or without ye. Because I can’t lose her.” Then, pausing, Harry swallows thickly. “But i’d feel a lot better having me captain by me side.”

“Y/N!”

Harry doesn’t stop. He doesn’t really think. His foot just moves in front of the other and all he can think about is you. All he can see is you, unconscious, body limp.

When he finally does reach you, he meets Mal’s eyes briefly, some sort of understanding passing between their gazes. Reluctantly and part of Harry hated to admit it, your sister had saved you. It was her in the end who defeated Audrey. And without her, Harry wouldn’t be able to pull you in his arms like he is now. He’d never be able to hold you again or tell you that he loves.

Because he does. Harry realized that the moment he might lose you.

Brushing back strands of hair that had fallen into your eyes and face, Harry’s touch is gentle as he coddles you against him. He lets his hook fall by his side, suddenly not so concerned with it and rather you as he cups your cheek, praying for your eyes to open.

“Y/N?” He calls out, voice soft. It’s odd to hear his voice so soft. Harry didn’t even think he could sound so... gentle. “Y/N, come on, love. Wake up.”

When he glances up, the others are surrounding him. Waiting, just like he is. He meets Uma’s eyes who only frowns down at him, not sure how to help. He knows she wishes she could, but Audrey was gone, the spell should’ve warn off by now.

Yet, it hasn’t.

Letting his fingers trace your cheek, Harry swallows thickly. “Y/N?”

Moments go by. Each passing minute feels like an eternity to Harry, like his growing hell. He can’t lose you.

But then, your eyes flutter open and his widen. “Y/N?” He calls out, voice louder, desperate, hopeful. “Y/N, it’s me. It’s Harry.”

Your eyes take a moment to focus, but eventually they fall on his own. The panic that had been in your gaze, obviously confused, fades when you find his blue ones on your own. “Harry?” You mumble, your hand falling to your head. “What the hell happened?”

“Audrey happened,” Harry explains, “but... yer better now. Mal... saved you.”

You blink, as if puzzled by his words, eyes flickering to your sisters as she smiles hesitantly down at you. Biting your bottom lip, you smile back at her before turning back to Harry, letting him help you up to your feet. “My head hurts,” you groan, causing the others to laugh.

The only one who doesn’t is Harry.

“Harry?”

“You had me losing me mind, love,” Harry confesses softly, voice breathy. Your lips part, eyes softening. “Don’t do that again.”

Cupping his cheek, you smile up at him; “I won’t.”

You move to hug him, but before you can, Harry is pressing his lips against your own. It causes you to still, the action surprising. You and Harry might be close, past the friendship line, but you’ve never kissed before. It’s everything you’d hoped it to be, and honestly, you didn’t even know Harry was capable of so much love until you feel him hold you close and tight and mold his lips against your own.

When he pulls back, you grin; “that your way of telling me you love me?”

Harry shrugs; “more or less.”

Legion Chapter 21 “Morning After”-Thoughts – SPOILERS!!!

The more I think about this one, the more I’m wondering if we’re looking at two mutant masters of manipulation, both of whom have all the power in the world but neither the capacity nor desire to see the consequences of their actions, and the folks who lie somewhere in the middle of their carnage and are struggling to take sides and figure things out.  (Since Farouk has not only a few years on David but a few centuries, it’s only fair that I’m harder on him, as he should know better! 😏) Okay, fine, we have Syd declaring about David, “He thinks he’s the victim,” to which Farouk says something along the lines of, “Yeah, isn’t that always the way it goes?” and I couldn’t help but flash back to Chapter 11, where he’s presenting himself to David as a benevolent king of a relatively happy kingdom (or so he thinks, idk),  the misunderstood victim of David’s mean old daddy who just butted into a situation he didn’t understand. (Admittedly, after D3′s invasion of David’s commune in Chapter 20, this is taking on an entirely new meaning!)  On the subject of Chapter 11, David’s “Wait...after what you did to me when I was a baby, now I’m supposed to feel sorry for you?” is a note-worthy parallel to Syd’s “I’m supposed to see you as the victim after what you did to me?” in Chapter 21, and Syd is having as much trouble helping David understand and seeing himself as anything but a victim as David had trouble understanding and seeing Farouk as a victim.  So I thought Farouk’s response was, frankly, kind of rich under the circumstances; how can everyone expect David to see his own flaws when they fail to or refuse to see their own?  Sorry, but until further notice and/or revelations, I still stand by this.

That being said, once we finally get the lowdown of the Farouk/Xavier showdown, perhaps some perspective will finally be seen.  Gotta say that I’m looking forward to that.

Syd’s “We need to talk” to Farouk (usually that phrase has incredibly serious implications, both as used from David to Clark in Chapter 8 and Syd to David in Chapter 19) made me wonder if we may be looking at the potential Clark/Syd turn on Farouk down the line, or at least if she’s (rightly) suspicious over how easily David slipped through their fingers and/or Farouk’s potential involvement, since David tipped her off about her killing him twice.  Again, nice how Farouk pinned it all on Switch; he didn’t even hint at their astral plane interaction with Syd!  And the creepiness of that “I will teach you to lie...��-line -- 🤮  But depending on whether or not I’m right about the circumstances behind Syd’s potential “for real”-confrontation with David, I think there was some significant foreshadowing there in terms of how a successful trap will finally be sprung -- not the means by which it will be executed, but how she may ultimately get him within...oh, let’s just call it (MASSIVE SPOILER THEORY ALERT) “touching distance.”  We shall see... (END MASSIVE SPOILER THEORY ALERT)

Also, I’m wondering if a certain Chapter 15 exchange between Lenny and Syd, in which the former insisted to the latter than Farouk raped her (the now-infamous “You’re the song they sing in a hostage crisis”-classic delivered by Syd), is taking on a whole new meaning for Syd when she complains to Farouk about David’s “victim mentality,” especially when Farouk turns around and suggests to Syd that she should essentially play the Mata Hari with David and more or less seduce him into complacency rather than coming directly at him with guns blazing?  (Okay, fine -- I get her “Hell hath no fury”-mentality, and I get Farouk’s “Catch more flies with honey than vinegar”-approach, and while both points are taken, they are still hard pills to swallow as I struggle to keep up with all sides.)  I hate asking questions like this in the name of fairness, but I can’t really look at all of this and just blindly yell “Go, Syd! get him good!” the way NH seems to be implying that I should!  Yeah, David’s screwed up royally, and yeah, he’s going to potentially screw up even more royally, but the constant and convenient playing of Farouk and Syd’s responses to it aren’t much better imo, and I’m not so sure they can’t or won’t single-handedly destroy the world themselves at the rate they’re going!  Besides, with regards to Lenny’s accusations, it doesn’t make Farouk right by comparison, especially in the name of “age before beauty” and “with age comes wisdom” and all that jazz.

Good grief, all this Charlie Brown-music -- am I looking at the potential for more deletions from my iTunes account by the end of the season?!? hope not!!!

As far as I’m concerned, Clark is now officially a jerk...and I’m not using the word “jerk”!

I also think they missed a massive op to make a “flying Squirrel”-joke!  Or even a group (such as Lenny’s van gathering, for example) witnessing Squirrel’s landing and having a reaction something like this:

David vs. Cary:  I’m getting the impression that DS and BI really hit it off on the set!  Love the chemistry and quasi-comedic timing between Dan and Bill; this made Chapter 11 one of my favorite eps, and while the relationship of their characters by Chapter 21 is more than a little strained. that reparte is as present as ever when David abducts Cary.  (The Cary-lover in me thought this kind of sucked and tbh is still struggling a little, but then again, just wtf was D3 thinking leaving him unguarded in the car, along with his fancy and expensive equipment in a potentially dangerous area?!? what, they couldn’t have at least one lousy Vermillion keeping watch to alert him of any potential danger?!? just sayin’...)  David takes a moment to vent a little (imo understandable) venom about that S2 finale bait-and-switch that has made things -- and by “things,” I mean David! -- a lot worse.  Cary’s take on it --- “I saw it as more of an intervention!” -- was a nice touch, but somehow an “intervention” complete with armed soldiers and a “Surrender to treatment or die!”-ultimatum as “old brain-eating enemy” hovers about in full view to really rub salt in the wound seems a teensy bit heavy-handed imo.  It did then, it does now, and the only thing David has truly learned from that experience is to not only (cough) adopt that X-Files adage of “Trust No One” but to up the ante where invasive uses of telepathy and mind control are concerned, if you’ll allow me a second to conceal my “shock and horror” at such a response.  (Especially since part of the problem is that David’s sanity at the time was and is now highly questionable, and oh gee, what  else could possibly stabilize an unstable mutant, and how could this plan possibly go wrong?!?)   Wow, congrats, D3 -- your idea of “intervention” only made things a lot worse, and you’re about as good at squelching the potential end of the world as you are at safeguarding your most valuable assets!  And ironically, just as D3′s attempts at “preventing the end of the world” are only messing things up further and causing more friction, David’s attempts at “fixing things” may also prove more complications than improvements.  One would hope there’s an Occam’s Razor-esque solution to all of this, but right now, emotions and adrenaline seem to be running  way too high on all sides to really solve the numerous problems!

Also, loved Cary’s interaction with Switch at the end and that all-too-brief shot of David in glasses!  And I may be a little low on Syd at present, admittedly, but I did enjoy her “David...what did you do?” as kind of a sly wink at both Logan and Dark Phoenix, since “What did you do?” is uttered by Xavier in the former and aimed at Xavier in the latter.  So nice little “Like father, like son” Easter egg (”A delusion begins,” yadda yadda yadda) they managed to sneak in there.

Anyway, just a few thoughts...
