Look I know a lot of people are disappointed that Janelos is probably gonna be canon, especially Jaylos shippers, so for a compromise may I present:

Jay, Jane and Carlos polyamory relationship.

* Jay's massive arms are excellent for cuddling in

* Jane is awesome at cooking and baking and makes sure her boys are well-fed at all times, she can cook poop in an oven and make it delicious

* Carlos makes sure they're all on the same page about everything, because polyamory can get a bit disorganised 

* Only those close to them are entirely sure what the relationship is, mostly because the three of them agreed that trolling the entire student body is hilarious. (You can watch Jay kiss Carlos after a game, Carlos holding Jane on the lawn with study materials nearby, Jane pulling Jay towards her room, away from prying eyes. Are they cheating together? Everyone wonders. Ask them, and all you get is a vague eye-contact between whoever you ask, but no clear answer). Jane is a private person, she doesn't like a lot of people knowing her business, and Jay and Carlos just think it's funny.

* They pile up on a bed, Jay stretched across the mattress with his head on Jane's belly, her resting her head on Carlos' shoulder as the three play video games together.

* Turns out, Jane knows a lot about magical theory, because studying magic isn't banned in Auradon, just the physical practice itself, and she teaches both her boys some spells and histories, making sure they can handle whatever magical clusterf they get themselves into with Mal and Evie.

* They sit together in the back of movie theatres, only sometimes watching the screen, Jane trying to watch, Carlos trying to eat all the food, Jay trying to mess around because otherwise whats the point of sitting in the back of a movie theatre with your boy/girl friends?

* Look it'd just be super cute okay? It solves whatever shipping deals people have, they'd be super snarky and bring out each best selves.

so i rewatched the forest scene and Died™. i created and am posting this from beyond the grave.

me: *shows up to the d2 countdown two weeks late with starbucks*

uma hates being short. in moments of doubt, it makes her feel weak, like she can’t be the true pirate captain she wants to be.

but mostly, she just hates being teased for it.

it’s moments like these, when she stands underneath the main dock, stretching up for something on a high shelf, just a little too far out of her reach, that she absolutely hates being short. she goes up on her toes, jumps a few times, but still - nothing. the whole thing gets worse when suddenly she’s lifted up into the air, a girlish squeal slipping past her lips. luckily, she’s able to finally grab what she came for before reaching the ground once again, but still - she does not like to be carried.

“what was that for?” she snaps, turning to see gil standing behind her. he shrugs, a hint of fear in his eyes at her sudden change in demeanor.

“i was just trying to help you,” he says in all sincerity. uma sighs, going up on her toes to briefly kiss him on the cheek.

“thank you,” she says, softer this time. gil smiles.

a few days pass before another incident occurs, this time during a meeting of the pirate crew. uma stands before them, reviewing the plan that she wants to be followed.

“why is she standing on a table?” one member of the crew murmurs to his peer.

“'cause she likes to be tall,” his friends says back, before the two quietly snicker at the joke. harry stands right next to them, hearing every word, and he sighs. calmly, he swings his hooked hand around, only for it to meet with the first crew members nether regions, hitting him quite hard at that, causing him to groan and fall to his knees.

“oops?” harry says casually, holding his hand and hook up as though the whole thing was just an accident. the pirate on the floor only shakes his head, turning away from him and scooting over. harry glances back up and catches uma’s eye, and she only grins at him in a silent thank you. he just smiles back, a certain glint in his eye reserved just for her (and gil too, of course).

uma certainly does not like being so short, but when her boys have her back, well, sometimes she just might not mind it.

The three of them stood there for a bit, with their arms over each other's shoulders, looking out to the ocean and to the distant skyline of Auradon. Because Harry was right. They might not have much, but they were each part of a pirate crew. And on the Isle of the Lost, that was more than something -- it was everything.

july 10th: uma/harry/gil

In the face of everything, it is apparently easy for Auradon to accept them. Not their parents, their upbringing, or them, really. But the three of them, what they are to each other, that is what gets easy acceptance.

According to the fairy girl that failed with the wand, romance between more than two people is not actually 'preferred' in Auradon, but has been forced into the public knowledge by the magic population that it's no longer a 'bizarre' thing. Uma might get sneers for what her mother did, but when she kisses Gil in the hallway, and Harry after class, not a pip. If Uma was a self-conscious person, she'd be upset.

But she's made her choices, and she wants to live with them. She chose to stay, to pull a Mal and be 'good'. And she gets to keep her boys too.

Harry loves Gil and Gil loves Harry, and both love Uma and Uma loves them back.

The fact that here, even despite all the history, they can be without shame, without the Isle rules of relationships (only be with someone if they're useful - emotion is discouraged, emotion is   to be ridiculed - end before seriousness), Uma can love that. Uma can stand with her boys, they with her, in the sun. She doesn't need to pull the captain rank in order to get privacy with Harry and Gil, she hasn't pulled the mask of being a captain wanting time with her lieutenants since making her choice. Instead, she can be a girl who loves two boys. And those two boys love her right back, in the open. Everyone can see what they are. It's liberating.

a/n: a short little something bc it’s “choose your own ship” day for the d2 countdown, and there is not nearly enough fic about these boys.

ben isn’t quite sure why, but since returning home to auradon, he's been haunted by the memories of being on the isle. not just the torture of his own kidnapping, but everything else - kids dressed in ratty clothes, eating garbage while sitting out in the streets, too scared to spend their time at home with their abusive parents.

those sights shake ben to the core, sending him tossing and turning every night, waking up with tears streaming down his face more often than not.

“shh,” someone says as they lie next to him, gently running a hand through his hair to calm his shaking. “it's alright, love. you're safe now.”

“those kids aren't,” ben says back, blinking up at green eyes in the darkness. “they're dirty and starving and in pain--”

“then bring 'em here,” his companion says. “you have the power to do that, you know. after all, it's what brought us here.” ben smiles slightly.

“thanks, harry,” he says. “you always know the right thing to say.” harry smiles back, ruffling ben’s hair, causing him to giggle softly. the comfortable silence that falls over the two is cut off by a loud snore coming from behind ben.

“oi, gilly,” harry says, reaching across ben to slap the third boy on the arm. “keep it down, will ya? we're trying to have a nice conversation here.” gil only grumbles in response and turns over. ben just snorts, his previous emotional pain now momentarily forgotten.
