Any tips on writing D&Daniel? I wanna do stuff with him but I have some trouble with writing his dialogue sometimes

hehehe, i included slang lists and writing tips in the bts file because of this question so thanks for that! i'm just gonna copy and paste what i'd written for writing daniel (it's like a drop in the bucket in terms of the content of the bts zip so i don't mind handing it out for free). Medieval/Old English themed. Daniel’s the most time consuming character to write, I’ll usually write his dialogue in simple words and then medievalify it. Sometimes that means using this list, but usually it means using a Thesaurus and picking the most flowery language I can think of. Gong Hei Faat Choi! 2023

Happy Chinese/Lunar New year everyone! As per usual, I've done a little bit of celebratory artwork :D

I decided that, with this being the year of the rabbit, I should call attention to one of our more famous rabbits, and one of our less famous ones - On the left here is the moon rabbit, who uses their mortar and pestle to grind immortality medicine. On the right is the leveret, the god of same-sex love (well, specifically between men, but I like to think by now he shows solidarity and love for all his quiblings).

It can be quite difficult for queer Asian folks to even just exist peacefully in what can often be a very traditionalist society - heck, I'm bi, in the diaspora, and I'm still very selective about which family members I tell about it. But there is a kind of comfort, whether you believe in small gods and immortals and whatnot, in knowing that people like you are represented in the pantheon.

Of course, the story of the Leveret god is... Fraught with weirdness. In the story, a young soldier spies on an official in a bid to see him naked, and is caught and killed by the official. The gods, in their odd and fickle way, took pity on the soul of the soldier because his transgression was driven by feelings of love and certainly did not warrant the punishment meted out to him. So he returned in the form of a young rabbit, and became a patron god of men who love men.

Queerness is still viewed in a lot of Chinese society as dirty or perverse, and it's often a struggle to extract the reality of existence from this mire of lies, half-truths, and misunderstandings. Not unlike older attitudes still prevalent in western societies.

So, this year of the rabbit, I ask everyone to revisit their understanding of queer love, and support those in your lives who may need that little bit extra help to be able to live their lives as true to themselves as they can :)

I had a hare with a zipped pouch in its (her?) belly. There were two tiny leverets* in there. Loved that.

WEIRDLY SPECIFIC BUT HELPFUL CHARACTER BUILDING QUESTIONS

What do they feel guilty for that the other person(s) doesn’t / don’t even remember?

K'vira has a huuuuuuge guilt complex to the point she pretty much has a lowkey constant stomach ache since everything always seems to be on her shoulders.

Hmmm, but a thing they feel guilty about that no one remembers... Leveret (one of her partners) keeps sentimental journals with pressed flora inside them from their adventuring. K'vira accidentally destroyed one when Leveret asked her to hold onto it for safekeeping because she had too much stuff in her pack.

Brun, the tiny rat companion K'vira has, chewed it to bits.

Leveret was upset, but understood it wasn't K'vira's fault and that the rat was simply being a rat. However, K'vira hasn't forgotten about it and buys Leveret every new journal she sees and trained Brun to specifically avoid chewing on books after that.

What is the smallest, morally questionable choice they’ve made?

She once let a group of bandits go when she first started adventuring and was still very naive and green to the world. They told her a fake sob story about why they were doing it, and she fell for it hard.

She wound up giving them her own gil to help them only to later hear from another adventuring party that they joined an even stronger group and had to be culled.

Coatl ctuesday!  Part 1/?

Coatls are one of my top three breeds tbh!  Love me some feathersnakes ;o;

Lore & names under the cut!

Row 1: Glacia (she/her) & Audra (she/her).  Glacia is the clan’s ice representative!  She is one of the few coatls in Thunder Hollow who have put in the years of time and effort it takes to master common draconic, and as such acts as a translator as well as a representative.  She’s also an amazing singer, performing frequently during festivals.  Audra is the wind representative!  She doesn’t have a very strong grip on common draconic but can understand it perfectly, which allows her to pursue the representative career without too much difficulty.  Glacia is her “mouthpiece” during the Councils more often than not, though Audra is still doing her best to learn!  Her hobby is kite-making and she runs a popular art program :0

Row 2: Saffron (he/him) & Jordana (she/her).  Saffron is the clan’s stoic fire ambassador as well as its resident textile expert.  He is best known for weaving exceptionally strong spidersilk cloth!  Jordana is part of the Guard, working as its support mage.  Since Thunder Hollow lacks connections to Sornieth’s ley-lines, she has had to learn rune magic (which involves imbuing objects with magic in ley-line areas and then bringing said magical items into the clan for use) to continue using her skills effectively.

Row 3: Lilian (she/her) & Quilava (she/her).  Lilian is Thunder Hollow’s resident judge.  She was fundamental in establishing the clan’s code of law and is responsible for casting judgement on any and all violations.  Quilava is the local forgemaster!  She makes everything from support structures to weapons to sculptures.

Row 4: Hau (he/him) & Proximus (he/him).  Hau works at the docks to help load and unload ships as they come into port for trade!  Proximus processes honey from local apiaries and turns it into sellable goods--especially mead.

Row 5: Leveret (she/her) & Mandan (she/her).  Leveret runs Thunder Hollow’s bookshop!  It sells books from local authors as well as more mainstream scrolls and tomes.  Mandan is a cooper, meaning that she makes barrels and crates to help both residents and clan officials package goods for shipping.

some tropes I’m not too fond of:

- this is going to sound bizarre but the existence of the caretaker in general?? I don’t actually mind reading about/ seeing art of them, hell this isn’t even a squick considering it’s literally half the backbone of the entire whump trope but there will be an exceedingly low chance I will personally ever write/draw/discuss about a caretaker that is a separate physical entity from the whumper.

- anything involving minors

- genital mutilation and self-harm (cutting)

- FINGERNAIL TORTURE omg I simply can’t stand it

- a bit of a squick for lady/fem whump, moreso in writing than in art
