Kevin Hart's Digital Network to Launch With King Bach Sitcom, 'Def Comedy Jam' Reruns
Laugh Out Loud will launch Aug. 3 with a mix of original comedies and licensed programming, which can be viewed ad free for $3 per month.
Comedian Kevin Hart is taking digital seriously.
The Ride Along 2 actor has set a slate of several comedies, unscripted series and licensed programming for the Aug. 3 launch of his online comedy network, Laugh Out Loud.
Created in partnership with Lionsgate, LOL will be free with the option of paying $3 per month to upgrade to a version of LOL that offers ad-free, bingeable viewing.
LOL is launching with eight shows, including scripted sitcoms Campus Law, starring YouTube comedian GloZell, and Dead House from Vine star Andrew Bachelor. The service also has licensed all seven seasons of Def Comedy Jam and will stream stand-up from the Just for Laughs comedy festival.
LOL is offering an early preview of one of its series, Kevin Hart: Lyft Legend, on Facebook beginning Tuesday, July 11. The six-episode series, which is sponsored by Lyft, will see Hart transformed into an elderly, talkative Lyft driver named Donald Mac who will test the patience of his passengers. Special guests Trey Songz and Joel McHale also will appear. The first episode is now available on Facebook, and all subsequent episodes will stream Fridays following the launch of LOL.
More programming will roll out after the Aug. 3 launch, including a sketch comedy show from Anjelah Johnson and a series with YouTube comedians David So and Tim Chantarangsu, known online as Kim Jong Illah and Timothy DeLaGhetto, respectively.
“Funny has no color or gender,” said Hart in a statement. “With our friends at Lionsgate, we are creating a global network that gives a platform to the next generation of diverse comedians from all over the world, of all ethnicities, to tell their stories. Our culture of comedy is unfiltered and inclusive. Most importantly, we are excited to make the world laugh.”
Hart first announced his plans for LOL in March 2016. The service is being overseen by his longtime business partner Jeff Clanagan, who stated, “With Lionsgate as our visionary studio partner, an incredible portfolio of premium content and an exciting array of fresh creative voices, Laugh Out Loud is positioned to super serve Kevin’s global fan base in the digital, over-the-top world.”
LOL comes a little more than a year after Lionsgate launched its first over-the-top streaming service, Tribeca ShortList. The studio also debuted streaming service Comic-Con HQ at Comic-Con last year.
“Kevin Hart is an extraordinary global talent, and we’re proud to continue expanding our multifaceted relationship into exciting new opportunities,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, adding that “together, we’re building Laugh Out Loud into a compelling, content-rich value proposition for his millions of current fans — as well as new audiences worldwide.”
Here is the list of programming coming to LOL on Aug. 3:
Campus Law (cast: GloZell, Wuz Good, Cynthia Luciette): The scripted sitcom focuses on three recent college graduates who decide to get jobs as security guards on their former campus. Campus Law was greenlighted by Hart at the Laugh Out Loud Presents: Just for Laughs Eat My Shorts pitch session during the 2016 JFL comedy festival.
Def Comedy Jam: For the first time ever, all seven seasons of Def Comedy Jam will be available for streaming, exclusively on Laugh Out Loud. The digital debut of the series that was a driving force behind the rise of hip-hop music and comedy culture features legendary comedians Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, Queen Latifah, Mike Epps and more.
Dead House (King Bach, Emmanuel Hudson, DC Young Fly): A scripted sitcom from one of the world’s top digital comedians, Andrew Bachelor — aka King Bach. Living arrangements become interesting when a human joins the cast of a reality show where four zombies must live and work together in one house.
Black Geo (Dormtainment): This is a satirical investigative series into the origins of black culture through sketch comedy.
Inglorious Pranksters: Stand-up comedian Jo Koy hosts this unscripted series that celebrates the Internet’s best viral pranks. In each episode, three UGC pranks will be given the “Hall of Fame” treatment and only one will be inducted into the “Hall of Fame.”
Just for Laughs 2016: 104 comics, 52 episodes. It’s 15 minutes of original hilarity, brought to you from Just for Laughs, the largest international comedy festival in the world. This is the next generation of comedy’s A-list. Showcases include Godfrey, Ronny Chieng, Finesse Mitchell.
Hotline Ad (Snoop Dogg): A sequel to Brent Weinbach’s Gangster Party Line, Hotline Ad will feature various chat line skits with celebrity comedic appearances.
