Hellooo! Hope ur doing well :) I wanted to ask some recommendations on how I shld build my cyno as I recently got him.. 😵‍💫

hi anon! im so happy that you asked me hehe 💕💕 i have a whole guide for you! (more under the cut!)

so starting off with 5* weapons, i really recommend his bis/sotss (staff of the scarlet sands)! the 2nd stat for it’s crit rate and cyno gains 52% of his em as a bonus atk. i personally love this weapon and i recently got it for him :D it’s really good for him <3 

next, i heard that staff of homa is also good on him! it gives crit dmg and this weapon provides an atk bonus based on 0.8% of his max hp! 

but i personally like primordial jade winged-spear because i like my crit rate! for this weapon, every time cyno hits an opponent, his atk increases by 3.2% for 6 seconds. (this stacks 7 times i think) and if he gets the max stacks, his dmg will increase by 12%. 

(those are the best 5* weapons on him but if you have any other ones, feel free to spoil him with them!) 

now, for the others/f2p/4*! i won’t go in-depth because i don’t know much about them! 

deathmatch (bp/paid) - 2nd stat : crit rate. i bought this just for cyno when i got him last year (polearms and polearm users hate me so i didn’t have a good polearm) and it’s really good! the only downside is that it’s locked behind money and the base atk is rather low :( 

white tassel (chests) - 2nd stat : crit rate. a good choice, 48% dmg boost makes a large difference, especially if players are playing cyno in an aggravate team comp.

blackcliff pole (shop/paimon’s bargains) - 2nd stat : crit dmg. a fully refined blackcliff pole with a full-stack can perform as well as an r1 primordial jade winged-spear! good for cyno, but again, i really like my crit rate. (deathmatch >>> blackcliff pole imo) 

missive windspear (event) - 2nd stat : atk. within 10s after an elemental reaction is triggered, atk is increased by 24% and em is increased by 96 at r5! the em increase is really good too!

kitain cross spear (forgeable) -  2nd stat : em. this weapon will increase his elemental skill damage by 6%. it has an em sub-stat, which is really good if you’re using cyno in an elemental reaction team.

prototype starglitter (forgeable) -  2nd stat : er. it has an er sub-stat, which is great at helping cyno recover his elemental burst energy.

moving onto artifacts!

i’m currently running a 4p thundering fury set on my cyno! it’s said to be the best set for him, it “increases dmg caused by overloaded, electro-charged, superconduct, and hyperbloom by 40%, and the dmg bonus conferred by aggravate is increased by 20%. when quicken or the aforementioned elemental reactions are triggered, elemental skill cd is decreased by 1s. can only occur once every 0.8s.” tl;dr:  the dmg increase via electro reactions really helps and the elemental skill cd makes his skill more spam-able during his ult!

i’m currently farming gilded dreams because i got told tat his bis/sotss is better with the set (i still use thundering fury tho!) i can’t explain gilded dreams to you because i don’t use it but it definitely has something to do with em! 4p is best when running hyperblume or aggravate!! 

4p gladiator’s finale is something i’ve seen many many people use! i’ve never tried it (maybe this is a sign i should?) but it does seem really strong!  “if the wielder of this artifact set uses a sword, claymore or polearm, increases their normal attack dmg by 35%.” to sum it up, 4p gladiator’s finale increases cyno’s normal attack dmg by 35%, even in his ult/burst!

some other things i’ve seen are 2p gilded dreams + 2p thundering fury, 2p gladiator finale + 2p shimenawa reminiscence, 2p thundering fury + 2p shimenawa reminiscence/gladiator’s finale, etc! feel free to mix and match them <3

lastly, artifact stats! 

main stats - for the sands, i suggest atk or em! (it usually depends on the set. i use an em sands because i use thundering fury and not gilded dreams!) for goblet,it would be suggested to use an electro dmg bonus goblet, and circlet a crit rate/dmg recommended. (circlet also depends on the weapon. eg, crit rate weapon usually would be paired with a crit dmg circlet, and so on.) 

sub stats - crit rate/dmg, elemental mastery, atk% i say cyno’s ideal em range would be 200 - 400! (i have around 300 right now!)

(to sum the artifacts up, it all depends on what comp you want to use him in/how you want to use him! i personally think thundering fury is more viable due to the strong box. i farm gilded dreams, then take all the bad ones to thundering fury’s strong box.)

here’s my cyno incase you want a reference (it’s really not the best &lt;/3)

tl;dr - staff of the scarlet sands, primordial jade winged-spear, and staff of homa are all really good on him! if you don’t have any 5 stars, white tassel, missive windspear, deathmatch and blackcliff pole are good replacements. his artifact sets are thundering fury or gilded dreams and em is a really good stat!

been a million years since i posted but genshin tumblr i need help again

ive read all of sethos' kit like, four times, but i *still* dont get it. i get the EM stuff and that it's important, but specifically what in the world is up with his arrows? why does it sometimes take forever to charge, and other times, its instantly charged? and why sometimes he hits high numbers, and other times he doesn't???? is there some secret em bonus he gets sometimes that im missing??? can somebody dumb this down for me please </3

(here's my build if it matters?? it's a work in progress and pleaseeeeeee dont look at my crit rate im working on it i swear i just have a million wanderers troupe users)

I did cyno's second story quest which means I got introduced to sethos and I immediately love him so now I absolutely have to main him

Ahh, I saw your reply to cyno's sq2 and if I may add to it!! I think Cyno isn't someone who is usually extremely emotional when it comes to himself, but he shows way more of it when it's affecting people he cares about (Cyrus, Nari, Collei etc). He probably also grew up with the knowledge that he's an "orphan" either way (after being taken to Sumeru by Cyrus), and has no recollection of his parents either, so I think that also made him go "shrugs", because I think it'd be worse if he had had a lovely and loving childhood and then suddenly got sold off... if that makes sense. (We don't know how his parents treated him before that, but he forgot it either way/was too young to truly remember his parents probably).

Overall though I also think it's what you all wrote in the comments: he's also the type to think about these things later on. In that situation itself, he had to make sure that Cyrus would be unharmed, and wasn't sure what to expect and how things would go, and that job at hand was more important than the newfound knowledge that his parents sold him off to be experimented on.

It's also part of his personality I think... which is like "the past can't be changed, the future can't be foretold" so he focuses on the present instead. I think that partially also adds to the entire "Cyno had no reaction"! At least I think, living with this mindset for over a decade, this'll likely have influenced his reaction!

So sorry for the big comment... but I was thinking about him and also trying to explain his behaviour and thought maybe it was OK to share my thoughts/insights!

Yea no I understand i agree with a lot of it! The no emotional reaction part is just funny to think about. What I would have loved is that if the sq was more critical (or showed what cyno thought) of Cyrus because he was involved in the experiment AND buying of cyno from his parents. Even though he changed his mind and even after taking a kid away from his homeland to the rainforest, which cyno struggled a lot in adapting to, it wasn't discussed further. He also kept his involvement and experiment a secret from Cyno the entire time. Cyno reminds me a lot of kids who grew up away from their native culture and had to assimilate to the new one.

He may have wanted to protect Cyno because he also did when the akedemiya sages wanted to experiment on cyno (windblume limited event) but keeping such an important memory and the very reason why cyno was taken away from his home is not the right decision in my opinion. Which could have been a source of conflict between them. And I wanted cyno's reaction to that!! Or traveler for that matter!! or someone to bring it up!! tighnari??

So yea! I would have loved more of a reaction from Cyno in that sense. If anything it felt more of a Sethos' sq because Sethos was the one who went through any change at all lol. Cyno was the same from start to finish and didn't have to battle with any emotional conflict.

Cyno from past quest was very pragmatic about his feelings. The way he mentioned how he had to keep quiet or be as truthful as possible so the people in the rainforest could trust him. Also how he struggled in the akedemiya before meeting his friends. It's just that in this one the same reaction or introspection wasn't there.

the start of something magical : cyno

pair: cyno x reader info: general audiences, build up for a love triangle, modern au (vehicles exist), attempt at comedy (although no puns...), not proofread

summary: cyno's life took a drastic turn ever since he jumped in front of a truck to save a wolf's life. things plateau for a while until you come along and give him another surprise after he thought he's seen everything.

Cyno is many things.

He’s the Chief of his precinct, which is impressive for his age. He’s the 4th time champion of Trading Card Game Genius Invocation—his favourite thing in the world. He knows he’s a great stand-up comedian at work, just that his crowd is tough as Ajilenakh nuts. Let’s not forget he’s also the best friend of Tighnari, a renowned and respected doctor.

What he’s not, however, is crazy, and yet the newspapers publish headline news that he’s crazy to jump in front of a truck. Yes, he did jump in front of a truck, but how could people not see the wolf that was crossing the road?

Even Tighnari called to ensure Cyno was sane, which only made Cyno want to burst in frustration because, surely, he did not dream up a wolf with silky fur that shimmered violet under the sun.

Okay, maybe he hallucinated a tad bit, but the light pitter of its pads against the cement as it hopped away after being saved had to be real even if no cameras caught any evidence the wolf existed.

He finds his answer a week after the incident. The wolf stares at him across the road they first met. Cyno follows it, and he finds himself right in front of large iron gates. There is a metal sign at the side that spells the situation clearly: the wolf wants him to go to school. Not just any school though. Magic School.

“What…?” he asks, and the wolf just tilts its head before slipping through the gaps of the gate. Cyno tries to dash from his weird situation, but the gates creak open and a lady materialises to welcome him. She has purple hair that falls to her ankles, tied in a neat braid.

“Welcome, Cyno. The world needs you here now.”

How does she know his name? He knows his importance in his neighbourhood as the guy who keeps law and order, but to say the world needs him? That’s a bit arrogant.

“Are you going to answer the call?”

Cyno is many things; he’s too cool (and old) for school. When he grabbed that costly certificate, he never wanted to return, yet here he is, signing papers to enrol into this magic school. He should not have given in and permitted them to explain themselves. They’re surprisingly convincing such that he doesn’t need proof of the prophecy of doom for it to send a chill down his spine.

His signature flies off the paper and is collected into the palm of the administrator’s hand. He whispers a few phrases, and the ink evaporates into the air.

“Now, no need to worry about your life back in the normal world because your signature provided us with enough information to send a clone—”

“What?” Cyno slams the table, glowering at the administrator. “A clone? No one told me I won’t be able to return?”

“R-relax, student. Time travels differently here. 10 days here is a day in the normal world. You wouldn’t be gone for long.”

Cyno relaxes, but he should have learned not to take things too lightly as the administrator drops the most horrifying news he’s yet to hear.

He’s stuck here for 1,111 nights.

He’ll miss his card game tournament! Not even the comfortable bed in his dorm can console his wailing soul.

Cyno is many things. He’s especially confused and concerned what he just roped himself into. He might have a knack to pretend to be someone else, but he’s not sure he can believe he’s part of the solution to saving the world.

It’s hard to make friends.

His jokes (still) don’t land, and the average age of the students compare to his youthful days that he’s grown out of. Something about him intimidates the rest, and he often eats lunch alone if you don’t count the wolf he saved.

He still doesn’t understand why he is needed to help the school prevent the prophecy of doom, but he has opened his heart to the wolf he now commands in battle. It grants him strength, and it has become his trusted companion of sorts.

Deep in his thought, he doesn’t notice you walking towards him until you tap his shoulder.

“Hi,” you greet, smiling.

Cyno takes a second to inspect you, and he lights up the moment he realises you’re older than what he expected.

“And you are?”

You tell him your name, gesturing at the empty spot beside him on the edge of the fountain. Cyno’s wolf buddy doesn’t seem too pleased with the new arrangements, but, with magic, you throw a stick of meat, and the wolf warms up to you.

“I’m in your Alchemy class. I mostly… stay at the back, hence why you don’t really see me often…”

Cyno nods. Not that he’s eager to learn, but the front seats are the nearest to the lecture exists.

“Is anything the matter?” he asks the moment he notices your avoidant eyes and restlessness.

“Well… you’re Cyno, right? I’ve heard of you before I enrolled in this school.”

He huffs out his chest. He’s many things—surely one of his most respected positions caught your attention. He’s quite accomplished if he says so himself, especially his title as the 5th time champion of TCGGI. (Yes, his clone, as excellent as he is, won the tournament.)

“After all this weirdness and magic is over, could you introduce me to Tighnari? You know, the acclaimed doctor? He’s just… so dreamy, but, I know, he’s out of my league, but… it wouldn’t hurt to try?”

“… What?”

This familiar feeling… it is the exact same when he signed himself up for this school. It is truly a school of magical encounters and unexpected situations. He does not quite enjoy it as much as he thinks he should.

“It’s not a coincidence that you and I are here,” you say after calming down from your rap. “Everyone else is… much younger than our age and are born into families that know of their powers. But us…”

You look at the wolf that’s gnawing on the stick, meat cleanly devoured.

“You can feel it too, can’t you? How we’re different.”

Cyno follows your gaze to his newly acquired nonhuman friend. From his Ethology classes, he learned that these magical creatures will never yield to being controlled, yet this wolf companion of his is his source of power.

He looks at you, wondering what brought you here.

“Anyways, I know it’s a little sudden and probably a bit too early as we’re stuck here for… who knows how many more days, I lost track, but do… consider my request.”

Right. You wanted him to play wingman.

Cyno deadpans, and he’s about to reject your suggestion when you slide a piece of paper into his palm and bid him farewell.

It’s your number and a legendary card for TCGIG. He already has it in his collection, but he appreciates the sentiment.

“What do you think?” he asks his wolf buddy. It sticks its tongue out like a dog, pleased with its hearty meal. “If you take a liking to my classmate then I suppose it doesn’t hurt to try.”

First things first, he must know you better to be sure you’re a good fit for his friend…

i love cyno so so much it is actually indescribable but GOD building him is a nightmare for me i look at him and i’m like yeah all the numbers and stats look decent enough he should do great🥰 but then i test him and getting this man to hit anything above ~20k is somehow just IMPOSSIBLE for me

Anyway, I'm broke on crystals and primos now. So I'll be back to saving for the next couple of months 😂
