Absolutely no shade to anyone, but it's kind of funny to me how celebrity podcasts are to the 2020s what celebrity beauty lines and cookbooks were to the 2010s what celebrity reality shows were to the 2000s were to fitness videos in the 80s and 90s were to...
#trends they do by cyclical#it's just... there are SO MANY podcasts how do people keep up#(and again I'm not shading anyone -- get that bag you do you)#(it's just funny how podcasts are the thing that celebs gentrified when ten years ago podcasts were seen as nerdy and uncool)#every day i learn of a new podcast I didn't know existed lol

My name is Evelyn and I had no idea there was an Evelyn character. Everytime I see her name I start tweaking. I feel like an old person now 😔
hi anon. i personally think evelyn is a lovely name! it was really popular with older generations so that's why CA chose it for his grandma character - BUT - i read on my local news over new years that evelyn is in the top 10 most popular baby names of 2024. its making a comeback! theres lots of other young evelyns out there. you dont need to worry abt a thing.
p.s. "tweaking" is a pretty rude word that makes fun of how people act under the influence of drugs, particularly people with addictions, i wouldn't use it this way.
#sdv confessions#trends are circular everything makes a comeback eventually its pretty cool#*cyclical

Hello,
Why do yuu think 2D animation is a dying art? I love Pixar animation and thinks it’s gorgeous but there’s something really special about hand drawn animation and think it’s expressive In a way that 3D isn’t. I just saw the frozen concept art and was blown away. Do you agree and what is ur thoughts on 2D OR animation in general?
Hey, and oh! I don't think it's dying as an artform at all - in fact, I lowkey think its heading into a bit of a renaissance given the calibre of work that's come out in the last 18 months - I just don't think major studios are investing in it anymore.
Like, anon! In the last 18 months alone, we've had:

youtube
That is thrilling to me as someone who once wanted to be an animator, and I think shows a huge range of styles and, with the exception of The Boy and the Heron of course, shows a real investment in terms of indie animation and treating 2D animation as the unique and varied artform that it is.
I actually don't necessarily agree that 2D animation is more expressive, but I do think it often feels more creatively unique because it is. There's something about 2D animation that creates an intimacy between artist and audience that I think can be there in 3D, but often isn't? And regardless of the story, it can build in this sense of immediacy and connection and the feeling that you're truly experiencing art as opposed to, well, watching content, which I do think sometimes 3D animation can feel like when it clearly lifting from a factory template.
But yeah, that new Frozen concept art is pretty amazing.
#i watched 3/4 of these films at the cinema and holy shit go watch 2D animation in the cinema#the peasants altered my brain chemistry#but yeah#i just don't think you can expect 2D out of Disney anymore#they've cannibalised mainstream animation too so out of a big american studio idk what the future looks like#but there are SO MANY incredible companies delivering innovative and compelling 2D animated films right now#when my nephews were with me a few weeks ago too we watched wolfwalkers which is a couple of years old now but stunning#so yeah#follow studio ghibli follow cartoon saloon follow breakthru follow folimage#there are so many companies doing amazing things with the form#and honestly given the calibre of disney's work rn i don't think it's a bad thing 2D is being pushed back into the hands of artists#trends are cyclical i'm sure big studios will reclaim it but celebrate and enjoy the glorious 2D animation that brilliant creative people#are making right now#:-)#welcome to my ama#film asks

In other news, Bratz community still attracting tacky insecure little bullies.
Felt mildly annoyed at being “dragged” for very gently worded advice instead of ‘Your commissioned reroot has a giant gaping maw on the forehead because you don’t know how to boil water’... but clicked through and had to witness infighting over which tiny doll instagrammers invented the Y2K aesthetic resurgence in doll restyles. Nobody tell them.
Bratz are my primary collection - I don’t post about them. The crowd has always been a little off and partly because Larian cultivated that.
#saf#my interest and studies into ads marketing and cyclical trends burned out around 2004 oh the irony

It feels weird to me when older generations are concerned about not meeting the trends of the current (by which I mean stuff like middle parts or whatever not serious issues). Teens didn't think I was cool when I was a teen. I"m not about to start worrying about it now.
