Documentation of Cyberchase VHS/DVD Releases (1/?)
Hello all,
I've collected quite a few Cyberchase DVDs over the years. Whenever I find interesting artwork, I make dedicated posts about them. However, I thought it might be beneficial to make one big post documenting all of the different Cyberchase VHS/DVD releases that I am aware of, and which episodes were released on them.
Given that Cyberchase's home media releases are a bit scatter-shot with which episodes they pick, I was curious to find out how many episodes actually got home media releases. This list won't be exhaustive, as I don't have information on some regions where the show was released. Dub DB claims that the show has received 28 different language dubs, and there may be obscure home media releases in those regions.

Editor's Note: I'll stop here for now, as I have covered all of the U.S. releases that I was able to get clear photos/scans for. I plan to pick-up my next post with the Australian, Italian, and possibly South Korean releases. I own multiple DVDs from the Australian and Italian releases, and I may be able to obtain photos of the South Korean releases soon.

Do you really think this is a normal Tuesday afternoon? No. We're going to right a wrong in this world. You, me, a few thousand random volunteers I've manipulated to follow me to the ends of the Earth. Where are we going? Netflix HQ. We're on a suicide mission, the random volunteers can and will suffocate the security guards with their bodies, what about the lazers? you ask, I answer. We bring AK-47s, a LOT of AK-47s. Except, uh oh! we don't know how to use a gun! Not to worry, I throw the bullets instead. The bullets don't hit the sensors, but the lazers go away anyways. But what about the motherboard? Not to worry, I've seen Cyberchase. I romance the motherboard, telling her that I'll convert to heterosexuality for her, a lie, but she'll fall for the large imprint in my pants, except, uh oh! it's store bought, I'm transgender. We get to the board room, the leader of the Netflix cult has a dark shadow over his face, he's been expecting us. "Don't tell me this is about Community. Do you think this would work? Others have tried before you, and they have fallen." I clench my butt cheeks in anxiety, we've been found out, guess we haven't been stealthy enough. But our mission isn't over, no, it's just begun. "What gives you the right to take beloved media off widely available streaming services?!" I shout, hands full of bullets just itching to be thrown. Nope, that itching is my balls. I won't let him know that though. The leader takes off his hood, cackling as he does so, revealing his shiny bald head. The dark shadow unveils dead looking eyes, we gasp, Jeff Bezos?! "Why don't you just buy it on Amazon Prime?" He cackles, thinking he's got us in a corner. I don't have a rebuttal, but I do have the power of breakdancing. I bust into my moves, spinning on my head on the comedically long table mr. Bezos was on the other side of. While he's distracted with my impeccable moves, I pull out a flame thrower. while I'm spinning it's hard to aim, but I use the glare from his shiny bald head to find him. After third degree burns on all of our parties, the battle is over. We've won. Bezos is gone. Except, I've been so wrapped up in the thrill of the mission I forgot our objective. Community still isn't on Netflix, what are we supposed to do? You come up with a great idea, we take a dvd case of all six seasons and walk back to the motherboard, I tell her I'm about to show her a good time, but really, I'm gonna shove the CDs into whatever opening I can find. It works, I give motherboard a juicy kiss, and we're out of there. We walk out of Netflix HQ with a smile on our face.
Mission Accomplished.

If you ever want to see slightly odd, but official, Cyberchase artwork, I have been enjoying the cover art for the Australian DVD releases of the show by MRAEntertainment. They can be viewed by Google, Archive org, or eBay searches. Volume 4 shows Matt, Jackie and Inez laying on top of each other in a heap. It looks like they tripped and fell over on one other. They don't seem hurt or annoyed tho. Volume 9 features Hacker hugging the three kids. They're not happy. Volume 10 is too good to spoil.
Oh my gosh, I've definitely seen these covers but have never been able to consistently find them. Thanks for the info!!
The one with Hacker hugging the kiddos and Digit is so funny, tbh. All the faces they're making while he's just >:)
And omg is vol 10 Hugs and Witches? That is a good one, I love Jackie trying to open the door. My personal fav ofc is vol 3, although it doesn't really capture how bloodthirsty Matt was in the episode lmao.
I liked it so much tho I did a redraw of it a while ago!
Tumblr media
Thanks for the ask and the info!! They really are some great covers and material for the show.

That is pretty cool. I don't have any hard evidence as to where this came from, but I can give my thoughts. I don't think this was sold as a commercial product. If it had been commercially released, it would have logos on it. I don't see any PBS logos, and I don't see a Flying Minds logo. Flying Minds produced a bunch of the merch for Cyberchase around 2004-2005, including the single official Cyberchase plush, the Digit plush.
We'll probably never know the full Flying Minds inventory, as several pages for their store are completely missing, with no product names or photos. Even the pages that have product names are missing almost all of their photos.
I dug into the old Flying Minds site and shared my findings on these posts. For what it's worth, I never saw this clock on the surviving pages.
Flying Minds - The Defunct Cyberchase Merch Empire (part 1): https://www.tumblr.com/vikenticomeshome/748361823260196864/flying-minds-the-defunct-cyberchase-merch-empire?source=share
Flying Minds - The Defunct Cyberchase Merch Empire (part 2): https://www.tumblr.com/vikenticomeshome/748363201305018368/flying-minds-the-defunct-cyberchase-merch-empire?source=share
I don't think this was a contest prize either. I have archived the two Cyberchase contests that I am aware of, and they seem to only talk about commercially sold products like the school supplies, VHS tapes, DVDs, and CD-ROM games. There is no mention of clocks or any specially-made products.
The 2004 Cyberchase Online Contest: https://www.tumblr.com/vikenticomeshome/745780583151665152/cyberchase-the-chase-is-on-museum-exhibit-videos?source=share
The 2005 Cyberchase Online Contest: https://www.tumblr.com/vikenticomeshome/745765865491972096/alright-i-wanted-to-share-the-content-that-i-have?source=share
The Hacker artwork has been used in a few different places. Sometimes he has simpler of more complicated coloring. The closest coloring matches that come to mind for me is between the cover of Variety magazine from October 1-7, 2001...
Tumblr media
And the Who's Who document, which as a copyright from 2000 and 2001.
Tumblr media
I find it interesting that the Cyberchase logo is missing its blue oval background on your clock. That blue oval has been around for ages, even appearing on the website as early as December 2001, before the show even started airing.
Tumblr media
The only place I can think of where I've seen the Cyberchase logo lettering without the blue oval background is on the original 1998 pilot.
Tumblr media
This isn't a perfect match, since they had multiple different colors behind it. However, the stuff that we see through the letters of the logo was animated, so the title care for the pilot may have been given flashy animations to try to give a good first impression when they were trying to sell the show.
I don't think that a modern bootleg would use the pilot logo, or go to the trouble of cutting out the letters without the logo. And I don't think anyone was making bootlegs of the show before the show even started airing.
I am aware of one other Cyberchase clock, which was the clock used during production of one of the Cyberchase For Real segments.
Tumblr media
Even that one has the logo with the oval though.
Cyberchase Clock Featuring Matt Figurine: https://www.tumblr.com/vikenticomeshome/747107515110686720/cyberchase-clock-featuring-matt-figurine?source=share
As far as I know, your clock has never been seen in a Cyberchase live-action production. It could have been made a prop for Cyberchase For Real, and then the scene ended up cut, but I doubt it.
My theory is that your clock was a custom that was commissioned or made internally by the team that created the original Cyberchase pilot. That would explain the use of the old style logo. I bet they used this in their offices, and then someone eventually sold it years later. It's possible that it could have been a gift between members of the team, but I don't think so, as there were no personal messages anywhere on it.
Tumblr media
found a hacker clock on ebay and i have no idea where it came from. i thought maybe it was a prize given out in one of the cyberchase contests years ago, but i have no evidence. there are no brand names except an electronics company on the motor. i have the feeling it's either bootleg or i have something incredibly rare in my possession. either way, it's cute.

Cable Television WAS Awesome
How would it feel if everything was suddenly given to you?
Tumblr media
Know that I'm grateful of the internet existing as it is, giving me access to plenty of things I don't think I could ever get or know without it. On the other hand, there was something about having a television, eventually with more than just the public access channels that I feel shouldn't be thrown away. And if I'm ever gonna indulge in a giant nostalgia trip, then it oughta be one that defined a part of me. SO LET'S GO BACK!
Tumblr media
Be me, kindergarten, a time where the internet wasn't a figment in my mind. I was enthralled with PBS Kids. That was a time where I actually wanted to wake up in the mornings because I would be treated to Between the Lions, Arthur, Cyberchase, Mister Rogers, Dragon Tales, George Shrinks, Sagwa. The early 2000s were a great time as there was a ton of stuff premiering as there was shows already existing like the Nicktoons and I didn't care if there were reruns or new episodes, there wasn't any concern over whether a show ended or began, I enjoyed basically everything. I wasn't fixated on television, I had my legos, drawings, and plushie animals to play with, my best friend was in the neighborhood to where I'd go to occasionally for a sleepover or hang out with others. It was a nice time of just ignorance where TV was just another part of being a kid. Then we get to the more intermediate phase where cable was in the house.
Tumblr media
I didn't have Nickelodeon when I first watched Spongebob. We had a rented DVD that had some select episodes and I would watch that just as religiously as I did some of the movies my mom had on her shelf. As a child you're rarely aware when something like a cable box is introduced in your home, you just let curiosity lead the way. I wasn't expecting when or how I was able to watch Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Discovery Kids, upon other channels that weren't paywalled, it just happened. And it was where I got into WWE wrestling before it got bad, other channels in their prime like MTV and IFC, film channels like HBO, Starz, and Cinemax, and it's especially where I got into cartoons more.
Tumblr media
I'll admit here the 2000s were the best era for animation where we got the most stylishly different shows. It didn't matter who or where the creator came from, you could just appreciate the unique touch each cartoon had. All the while that variety was broadcasted every day on top of commercials that were sometimes funny and memorable when they didn't feel like waiting hours between episodes. There wasn't any favoritism with the programming, it seriously felt like every show got their time to shine. Spongebob was definitely the top dog of Nick, but it never felt noticeably egregious where the Nicktoons channel felt less like a dumping ground and the "Spongebob Standard" wasn't as prominent. And for that time, things felt different. I look back at particular premieres of shows or events and I don't know exactly, but I felt more motivated?
Tumblr media
I was no top student but I gave a shit when it "mattered"
Whether it was a Spongebob marathon leading to a premiering tv special or wondering what was to happen with Friday Night Smackdown, it was like I actually worked to get to those moments. Maybe it's because school and homework was more abundant at the time, but I wanted to make sure I got to see what I wanted to see without any distraction or obstacles. Actual hype was there in getting to see a TV special event because you were unsure if you could see it again and there was that fear of missing out. Again, I had that feeling of actually WANTING to get up out of bed. I wasn't obsessed with having or seeing every new thing that was coming out, but it was a joy to hang with my friends talking and memeing about the shows we watched, especially the newest of episodes. It was fun quoting the early episodes of Adventure Time and Regular Show, Spongebob, Family Guy, cable gave me a notable joy upon everything else where it wasn't an obsessive part of my life, but I was grateful for just being able to see things that would define my interests.
When I tell you me and my friends busted a nut over this one promo upon the couple others for Adventure Time
They say TV would rot your brain but honestly it was hard to consider that practically. I doubt TV gave somebody everything they wanted 24/7 unless they were open-minded enough to willfully see anything and couldn't do much else. Otherwise, there were times where I neither watched CN, Nick, Disney, and would go do something different. Channel chasing was less a feverish ordeal, more an irregular moment when going out wasn't ideal. And when I got into manga and exercising around middle school, it never felt like television was as much a major part of my life despite still enjoying morning cartoons and video on demand at the time.
Tumblr media
Then again, things come to an end
In the early time of High School, as the price of having cable was getting too much to keep, we've had to resort to only having internet which meant the only way to anything was either streaming services, pirate services, or just go to Youtube. This is where I say overtime the magic of watching tv lost its luster. The question at the start is something I indirectly always ask myself when it comes to the current era of entertainment and the viewing experience. With Netflix upon the plentiful other services, with pirating sites overcoming that basically letting you watch whatever you feel like at whenever time, how fulfilling does it feel anymore?
Tumblr media
Aside the fact that streaming has basically remade television with extra steps?
Television adhered to a schedule while offering something new or different every time, it felt like a necessary restriction to make your experience digestible. Commercials actually did its job by giving you a break. DVDs were where you could actually binge a show you love after a season was over after the weekly premieres were over. Now with ad free binging, it's grown to be a hapless past time where a show that would've lasted a few months can come and go in the matter of a weekend. Meanwhile, it's become more lucky for some creators to get any attention with how scattershot studios can be with promoting. And with access to everything you wanna watch past or future that easily, it's difficult to care when it feels like you're basically given all the time in the world, even when you have other responsibilities. I'm sure others can make the energy and time, but for me it's hard to be in the mood to watch anything when I'm too aware of the idea.
It's hard to explain but while we can say TV did the thinking for us, I believe it was better than making sure every moment either did or didn't matter. It certainly had less of a trap on you than social media where it can not only make you co-dependent in terms of getting that dopamine hit with likes and reblogs, but callous that it's an easier way to make you feel like somebody; the unintentional expectation of you to be actively imaginative or non-existent. TV was something you could just enjoy like anything else and if you felt a day didn't have anything on, you could move on to elsewhere. I don't mean to be "internet is evil", but to me less was more. And while television from what I've seen hasn't changed, the feeling doesn't feel there anymore now that streaming has basically taken over.
Tumblr media
But I'll never forget those days. Not just the finales and premieres of shows, specials, and programming blocks, but the feeling of being able to watch them in a more traditional way. I don't believe it's wrong, despite the continuing future, to return to simpler times in some cases. Cable TV felt like just as good an escapism as anything else I had as a child, and I'm glad I got to enjoy it for as long as I could. Again, I won't damn those who prefer streaming over cable, I just faintly wishing these future generations could see what I saw.

Preservation of Italian Dub of Cyberchase
Hello all,
I obtained three Italian DVDs of Cyberchase. While they use the English version of the theme song, the episodes have been dubbed in Italian with a new voice cast. They also have Italian title cards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Each DVD has three episodes.
Volume 1:
- Hanno rapito il Dott. Marbles (English episode title: Lost My Marbles)
- Mitologia e divisioni (English episode title: Zeus on the Loose)
- E contarono felici e contenti (English episode title: And They Counted Happily Ever After)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Volume 2:
- Il calcolo delle probabilita (English episode title: R-Fair City)
- Una terra per Hacker (English episode title: Sensible Flats)
- Il caso Poddleville (English episode title: The Poddleville Case)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Volume 3:
- Neve a Solaria (English episode title: Snow Day to be Exact)
- Terrore a Symmetria (English episode title: Secrets of Symmetria)
- Il tempo fugge (English episode title: Clock like and Egyptian)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided to rip the episodes from the DVDs and stick them on the Internet Archive for preservation.
Volume 1: https://archive.org/details/vol-1-ep-1-hanno-rapito-il-dott.-marbles-1080p
Volume 2: https://archive.org/details/vol-2-ep-1-il-calcolo-delle-probabilita-1080p
Volume 3: https://archive.org/details/vol-3-ep-1-neve-a-solaria
I find it interesting that they covered the first 10 episodes of Season 1, with the exception of Episode 2, "Castleblanca". I'm not sure why that one got skipped.
I have seen claims on DubDB that the first six seasons of the show (82 episodes) were dubbed in Italian before they stopped: https://dubdb.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberchase_(Italian)
I have also seen claims on TVTrops that the first five seasons of the show (72 episodes) were dubbed in Italian before they stopped: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnfinishedDub
Neither of those pages have sources for the season/episode count. There were probably more episodes in the Italian dub than what I have here. However, these are the only Italian DVDs for Cyberchase that I have been able to find so far. It's possible that there were other DVDs produced for the show in Italy, and it's also possible that they dubbed more episodes for TV that didn't get onto home media releases. It's even possible that a different company and a different voice cast could have worked a separate Italian dub for the series.
Tumblr media
The company credited with the Italian dub is VideoDelta. I assume they were part of Delta Pictures, the company whose logo is given the most prominence on the packaging.
Tumblr media
Matt was voiced by Stefano Brusa.
Inez was voice by Anna Lana.
Jackie was voiced by Serena Menegon.
Digit was voiced by Davide Garbolino. He also wrote the Italian dialogue and was one of the directors of the project.
Hacker was voiced by Mario Zucca.
Motherboard was renamed to Schedamadre (which is Italian for Motherboard. She was voiced by Marina Thovez.
Buzz was renamed to Floppy. I'd really like to know why, since he was the only one to receive a rename so drastic. He was voiced by Andrea Zalone.
Delete was voiced by Michele di Mauro.
Dr. Marbles was voiced by Olivero Corbetta.

cyberchase: know your dough marathon (2005)
You know, I had this idea of the Cyberchase “Know Your Dough” marathon on Tax Day would be sold on VHS & DVD as a teaching kit complete with test programs and papers meant to be copied with a copier machine for assignments in the classroom, as well as different ideas for games and a kit to make a Buzz-bank in order for classrooms to teach Money Management
also I imagine the Harry & Bianca segments of the marathon would take place in the Junior Achievement BizTown and Finance Park in Houston, Texas , with tons of classrooms from various schools signing up for a contest where the top 5 classrooms be the first to do the BizTown Finance Park assignment there with Bianca & Harry, while being interviewed questions by the two after each episode plays and they explain ways of doing good money management:
Chapter 1 (Trading Places): Currency: Q:"If you can make anything a currency for your town, what would it be?"
Chapter 2 (the Snelfu Snafu part 1): Saving: Q:"If you can get a job anywhere, where would you work?"
Chapter 3 (the Snelfu Snafu part 2): Spending: Q:"What would you do if you had say $1,000?"
Chapter 4 (Balancing Act): Budgets: Q: "You think it's important to keep track of your money?"
it would even have Neil Godfrey (the writer of the hit finance help book "Money Doesn't Grow on Trees" and expert of teaching financial management to young people) be part of it with interviews of her discussing what to do to get good money management
do you think that would be a good idea?

Considering how old Cyberchase is, I'm surprised this wasn't already a VHS, or at least DVD exclusive, special already.

Wanted to do a piece that looked kind of like a VHS cover for a Cyberchase special ⛄🎄🎁🦌 Happy Holidays!!

So I wasn't allowed to have a childhood so what are some kids shows you watched?
We lived in Middle of Nowhere, SD when I was a kid, so there was no cable and I really only watched PBS when I was a tiny. Arthur, WordGirl, Fetch!, CyberChase, lol.
My mom kept VHS’ and DVD’s of The Muppet Show around, though, so I watched quite a bit of that as well.
