I’ve been having thoughts about Venti in the timeline in the cyanide narwhal verse, and how his design might change. I like the idea of him having a couple little bits of hair that are still cyan colored, and making them bangs helped distinguish from the nameless bard singular ones. (Even if I like the back of his head a lil better). Still. @trashcanwithsprinkles fic continues to captivate and give me so much brainrot about the possibilities of everything that would change in the world.

I just started reading your fic Cyanide Narwhal yesterday (I’m on chapter 33!!) and I’m really loving it.

But on a different note. I just read your other fic “Every good intention (is interpolation)” and I really liked it. Honestly it may not have been intended that way but it was kinda philosophical. It makes you think of is your personality how you think it is or how other people percieve you. (I’m probably thinking to deeply.) But I did share it to my dad, because I thought it was quite interesting. ^^

First real post, and one I am very happy to make! I finally managed to finish the 1st segment of the introduction of the animatic I started in *check notes* November 2023 (ah). So... surprise! I'm animating the whole introduction of ATLA for the fic Cyanide Narwhal by the incredible @trashcanwithsprinkles ! *throw glitters*

I've had this in mind since the joke first emerged in the comments when the fic was still updating. I'm glad I can finally work on it! It'll probably take a couple months before I manage to fully finish it (exams am I right), but it's on its way!

I'll post progress here, so don't hesitate to follow along!

While reading "cyanide narwhal" by TrashcanWithSprinkles, I got an idea for a fix-it fic around the Guili Assembly's time period.

In particular, I have been thinking about an OC who's like Osial. Or an OC that is Osial.

Maybe a recently dead human soul merged with his own when he was newly formed, which changed his personality?

Anyhow, the OC would be the Lord of the Sea of Clouds (the sea Liyue Harbor is right next to). They don't like humans in their territory, so they push all ships out of their waters.

Because of the human soul, they unknowingly have some compassion for humans though, so they don't kill any of them but actually sometimes saves them.

When Guili Assembly is still thriving, Guizhong and Morax seek Orien out to establish a port next to his territory with his permission.

The contract would be about protecting each other's territories. Guili's people would have save passage on the Sea of Clouds and in return Guili would make sure that Orien's ecosystem remains save.

Renn would then slowly befriend Morax, Guizhong, the other Adepti and the humans of Guili Assembly. He would essentially become another patron god.

(Renn's pronouns are He/They btw)

I have decided that OC!Osial has 4 names. Here are their explanation:

Osial - his godly name. A very formal name only used by foreign strangers who haven't met him yet.

Orien - his lordly name and technically personal name. Full title is "Orien, the Lord of the Sea of Clouds". A formal name, mostly used by people who don't know him personally and in conjunction with his title.

Renn - his personal name and nickname of Orien. The people of Liyue Harbor call him "Lord Renn". Those who have met him more than just in passing call him Renn.

Míngtāo - his "real" personal name. Used only by friends. Given to him by Meiyu, a Liyuen girl and his first friend.

It is a combination of 明 (míng) meaning "bright, light, shining, clear" and 涛 (tāo) meaning "large waves".

[Since I don't know Chinese, Míngtāo's name might be wrong]

Meiyu was the first person Orien got to know personally. She was the one to teach him human language and became his first friend.

Grinning from ear to ear, Meiyu ran down to the beach. The water snake could finally understand her! Sure, it was because he wanted to make her go away after ignoring and intimidating her didn't work, but she could finally tell him now!

What she needed to tell him was so important that she couldn't let his attempts to make her go away demotivate her!

Finally arriving at the beach, Meiyu took a deep breath to shout out; "Mr. Water Snake! Hey! Heeyy~! I need to talk to you! C'mon! Don't ignore me!"

Like always, he let her wait a few minutes until he finally deigned to acknowledge her.

Rising out of the water, he finally appeared before her.

Excitedly looking between his 5 heads, Meiyu jumped up and down;

"Hey! I need to tell you something veery~ important!"

"What is it?", the other sighted.

"But first! You need to tell me your name! It's very important I use your name for this!", Meiyu told him with attentive eyes and a voice full of expectation.

"... I don't have a name."

Surprised, Meiyu stopped jumping around. She looked between his sets of eyes, taken aback. "What do you mean, you don't have a name? I have heard people call you Orien!"

Agitated, he shifted his body.

"Exactly, that's what you humans call me. It isn't my name."

"Oh. I-... Do you- ... Would you like me to give you one?", she asked with a tentative voice.

He stilled for a moment, but answered, unbothered: "Do what you will."

"Okay! Let me think for a moment!"

After a few minutes, Meiyu jumped up, which prompted the other to straighten up as well.

"I know! How about Míngtāo? You know, as in bright and big wave!"

He seemed to think about it for a moment before nodding with his leftmost head.

"That's acceptable."

Meiyu smiled up at him. However, she lost some of her newfound excitement in the next second, apparently remembering something.

"Right. Now that I know your name..."

Meiyu took on a more serious air and looked straight into his right-most eyes before bowing down low. "Thank you, Míngtāo, for saving my life. And the lives of my parents. If you didn't drag us to the beach after our ship wrecked, we would have died."

The scores are a snappy enumeration of my personal rating system. 2/10 means I read for some amount before putting it on hold and theoretically might someday give it another shot but eh, 4/10 means I'm much more likely to give it another shot, 6/10 means I read through all the chapters that was there at the time and enjoyed my time aplenty, 8/10 means I enjoyed it even more, and 10/10 means I enjoyed it so much they're a contender for being among my favorite fics of all time.

It might be a bit of a strange thing to draw fanart for- but the lore for the star foxes of @trashcanwithsprinkles fic cyanide narwhal really captivated my brain in a way that really made me itch to draw. I tried to use some of existed old mural styles (like Tsurumi islands buried ones, and the one on dragonspine) to make something for a depiction of how the zvezdochoty gained illumination- or. Whatever word is most applicable for them Anskkdkd. It truly is a wonderful fic, the kind that alters your brain forever. I love genshin, it’s lore and worldbuilding- and to have the author make two new incredibly interesting species from whole cloth was incredible.

Bonus fox murals under the cut- I really like the little guys, so I tried making some more with more humanoid depictions too (plus a bonus Celestia)

hi! I wanted to ask questions about how you proceed to write:

Do you have a general idea with plot twits and such figured out? like general guidelines and then go crazy and write these amazing fics or you just go with the flow?

How do you establish world building? Like, all the fics I've read from you (which are more than great) got lots of info in the world building though strangely enough (in a good way) I wasn't lost on it? Like Cyanide Narwhal has crazy lore to it with lots of characters and stuff going on but as you read you get what happens even though hundreds of stuff happen at once. HOW DO YOU DO IT :0

How do you write so smooth also? Like going from one scene to another makes total sense without there being a cut? (idk if i make any sense sorry ^^').

Finally, how do you explain feelings so well? Well not explaining directly but making us FEEL *looking at cyanide narwhal and i think you're so good (and i'm nothing like you)*. I think that the description of them interacting helps w it (like the way Zhongli looks at Ajax (i am melting please thats so cute-) but even the interaction between Ajax and the kids (big brother behavior)

i do always have a general idea on how the story is going to go, like what plotbeats i want to hit and what i want to happen. but since it's not a good idea to marry to one path, the details for how things happen or how we get from point a to point b specifically i usually come up with on-the-go, and i do leave room for modifications. like i have a million fic ideas and scenes i want to write but i never actually write any if i cannot picture two things: 1, what the point of it is (the main climax, the main mystery, etc), and 2, how it ends. (the reason why most wips don't make it past a couple chapters is bc i struggle to picture the ending accurately, or how to get there)

i genuinely have no idea how to explain the world building, i'm sorry lmao. if i really had to think about it, no joke, i think i'd say this was stardew valley's fault. yes you read that correctly. more specifically, the earmuffs item. now- it might not be evident as it is rn w the way i write, since it's been a while since i've started doing my worldbuilding like this and obviously it's evolved and gotten more complex w time, but- for those unaware, stardew isn't a game you play for the worldbuilding per se. for the deep world lore. especially pre-ginger island update (1.6?). but there IS worldbuilding, it's just you don't really see it, it's not the point of the game. you're there to grow crops tend to animals suffer in the mines and get a partner. that's it. but you know there's more outside the town and the valley. you know the biggest city nearby is called zuzu, you know what the sea is called, you know there is a war going on in the background, you know there is an empire involved, you know lewis might be the mayor of the town but he's still under the governor of the region. you know there's witches and spirits and elemental beings and aliens n shit. the fucking earmuffs were sort of like my epiphany years back bc their description says they're lined w artisanal velvet from castle village. what the fuck is castle village?? were you ever going to tell me about it outside of those fucking earmuffs? does it even matter? no. it doesn't matter. but just because it doesn't matter doesn't mean the earmuffs stop being an artisanal item from castle village. just because it doesn't matter what the sea is called doesn't stop it from being the gem sea specifically. the fact that you only care, gameplay-wise, about your farm and pelican town- it doesn't stop your country from being at war, from being called the ferngill republic. the world of the game exists outside of what matters to you for the plot. and so even if you're never going to find out some of these things if you don't look, they're going to be there anyway.

i don't know if that makes any sense. it probably doesn't LMAO a probably better way to explain it is like- write stuff the same way you hear our own world being talked about irl. does it matter for the 'plot' of your day if your mother says she's going to one specific supermarket? no. does she still call it by name? most likely. that's just how it works. you know it exists because this is the world you live in, regardless as to how much it matters to the actual 'plot'. it's not there exclusively to serve the purpose of aiding the plot, but because it's a part of your world and therefore must be connected to the world beyond you. the world will only read like it's lived in if the characters speak about it like they actually live in it.

i'm not actually sure that answers the question now that i think about it. it's just- i trully don't know how to answer it. i don't know what i'm doing that makes it interesting and not a complete mess to read even if it IS a complete mess. the only explanation i can think of is that: that i write the characters interacting with their world as though they actually live there. the plot is just something that happens to an already existing, already established world.

also i think you might be merging lore and worldbuilding with plot. yes, the worldbuilding and lore in my fics are absurd, but that alone i don't think would be hard to keep up with. it's the plot also being absurd what makes it seem like there's a lot going on at once (there is, just- in two different fronts). like there's not a million things happening at once in the worldbuilding - there's a million things happening at once in the plot. you're finding out a lot of stuff about the world at the same time, is the thing. anyway,

scene transition without the cuts being smooth i also am not sure how to explain. that's probably on me for not following scene structures properly tbh. so uh- no clue here chief, i'm sorry. i don't even have a guess as with the worldbuilding.

with the writing feelings i do have somewhat of a guess- it genuinely might be some undiagnosed brain fuckery i have. kinda like how the inside joke of asexuals being shockingly good at writing sex scenes goes. if you have a different-than-intended perspective on the stuff, it would probably lead to a different approach to writing it. but other than that i also am not sure
