Day 10: Surprise visit Collar x Malice: Sasazuka Takeru x Reader Warnings/Genre: fluff, making out, slightly suggestive Word count: 838 Summary: You surprise each other for Christmas.  AN: japanese ppl absolutely do not eat a british roast dinner for christmas but just go with it

You and Takeru made no plans for Christmas; the two of you had more pressing life-or-death issues on your minds, but you weren’t about to let that stop you. Even if it’s last minute, and even if it’s just the two of you, you’re determined to make Takeru enjoy this Christmas (and finally eat some proper food).

So, you enter his flat, turkey and brussel sprouts in hand, and sneak straight past his room into the kitchen. He’s so busy tapping away at his keyboard that he doesn’t even notice you - perfect.

It takes hours, of course, and you mentally prepare yourself for him to walk in before you finish. Yet, predictable as ever, he doesn’t step foot in the kitchen, nor can you even hear him leave his room. I’m not convinced he’s human, you think to yourself.

You’re taking the turkey out of the oven - the final piece of your festive endeavour - when you catch a flash of green in the corner of your eye. You nearly drop the oven tray on the floor.

You only regain your balance because you’d yet to take the tray out fully. Before a serious accident can occur, you carefully place it onto the counter and push it further inwards - for good measure.

Finally, you spin around on your heels to face your straight-faced boyfriend. “Surprise!” you exclaim, clapping your gloved hands together.

“I think I surprised you more,” his voice is steady and monotonous, the only emotion displayed on his face is the slight curve of his mouth into a lopsided smirk. He traipses over and plants a kiss onto your forehead, playfully rubbing it in as his hand messes through your hair.

Takeru glances at all the food laid out neatly on the table: crisped potatoes, assorted veggies, stuffing, pigs in blankets, and a space in the middle reserved, assumedly, for the turkey.

“So this is what you were doing?” he muses. For a moment you think that, maybe, he’s impressed. “I was wondering why you were making all that noise.”

Whoops. A blush creeps onto your cheeks as you turn your attention back to the turkey, carefully shuffling it onto a plate. “You knew?”

“Of course, I knew,” Takeru sighs. He plops himself down onto a chair, “You’re not very subtle.”

“Y-yeah,” you place the meat in the middle and sit across from him, your hands a tangled and panicked mess in your lap, “I wanted to do something nice for you, for Christmas.”

“It is nice,” you hear him say. When you shoot your head up, he’s smiling. It’s that rare one you hardly see - it’s not laced with cockiness or mockery, it’s just gentle. You smile back, “I’m glad.”

By the end of the meal, your brain is foggy with the sheer amount you’ve eaten. You glance over at your boyfriend, unphased despite eating most of the food, and grow a little envious. At least he enjoyed it, that’s good.

“So,” he rests his chin on his hand, “what’s for dessert?”

Crap. You were so distracted by how long your shopping list had grown that you completely forgot to add something sweet on there. That was rule number one with Takeru, how could you forget? You jolt awake from your looming food coma with adrenaline.

“I’ll make something real quick!” you announce. You could’ve sworn there were a few baking ingredients left behind from the last time you were here - perhaps that would be enough for him. 

When you try to scramble out of your seat and beeline to the cupboards, you don’t make it very far. A hand around your wrist yanks you backwards and you feel yourself fall, air whooshing past your ears at frightening speeds.

But you land in Takeru’s lap, his free arm holding you upright to face him. His expression is unreadable - all you can see is his face so close to yours, his breath warm on your lips.

And he kisses you.

Eyes wide open, you’re too shocked to react at first. Just a second ago you were trying to remember how to make sponge cake, or maybe cookies, and now Takeru’s lips were on yours, his tongue gliding through the delicious parting your surprise left him.

You let him in, melting in his hands so easily, and thread your fingers through his messy green hair in a desperate attempt to pull him even closer.

Takeru’s hands roam from your back to your soft thighs, he smiles into your kiss when you squirm at his touch adventuring further and further up your leg, under the hem of your skirt. He takes advantage of your little gasps and pushes his tongue deeper, wanting to explore you completely.

He’s the first to pull away and you follow for a second, unwilling to let go. His signature smirk makes you pout.

“You’re sweet enough for me,” he says.

Reaching up to cup his cheek, you pull him close again so that your lips are practically touching. “Good,” you whisper, and attack again.

You knew the second his hand brushed your side you were done for.

“EHE!” Kageyuki looked up at your squeak, blinking a few times at you. “What-”

“Nothing! Nothing I- erm…” You panicked, looking for an excuse and coming up empty. “I’m n-not ticklish!”

Smooth, (Y/N). Real smooth.

Kageyuki stared at you longer, tilting his head curiously at your words. Then that teasy smile of his pulled on his lips, sending shivers down your spine. “My my- so you’re not ticklish? If I were to do this-” He reached out towards the spot he brushed, making you jerk back with a giggle. “...Interesting.”

“S-Shiriashi…” You stammered, stepping back until you felt the cool wall behind you. Your face warmed when he got closer, eyes dancing with curiosity. “Please, you’re wasting your time! I’m n-not-

“You're not ticklish?” He mused, amusement coloring his tone as he brought his fingers to your sides, making you freeze. “You must feel awfully bold to think you can get away with lying to me like that.” He leaned forward until his forehead pressed against yours, leaving you nowhere to run. “Did you forget I’m a profiler?”

“N-No I-Ah! Ahehahahhaha, Shihihihiriahahahhshi!” You could barely get your next words out before he was pressing into your ribs, drawing slow menacing circles into the sensitive spots. “Pleahhhahhhahase, dohoohohohon’t!”

“Well well, now  what do we have here? You really did try to lie to me.” Kageyuki smirked, drinking in your laughter as you halfheartedly pushed at his arms. “And you’re barely fighting back. Are you enjoying this, (Y/N)?”

“Shuhuhuhuhush! Dohooohn’t sahahhay it like thahahahhat! Ehehhahaha!”

“You didn’t deny it. I must be on the correct path.” Kageyuki brought his hands up higher, making you squeal when he found a bad spot along your upper ribs. “I must learn more. Come now, (Y/N). Tell me everything I want to know.”

This was supposed to be for @asususasa but in the middle of writing I thought this could be useful for someone else, so here's Tacky's general list of otome recs. It took me over an hour to write so I'm not proofreading it.

DS

Not much to say here because back in those days otome games didn't get localized. The stand outs are Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 1st Love Plus and Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season, who have English fan translations. Slice of life games where you play as the protagonist through her three years of high school. And if you feel like a student-teacher romance that would make Sakura Kinomoto's mom proud, these are your games.

PSP

Still well into the no localizations era with one exception: Hakuouki Demon of the Fleeting Blossom. Not recommending it on PSP because there are better versions. Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3rd Story Premium also has a fan translation and should be played over its DS counterpart because it has added functionalities. Sadly this time around the teacher is a secret character and a shota.

3DS

There's Hakuoki Memories of the Shinsengumi. Still not recommended because we can do better.

PS3

Hakuouki Stories of the Shinsengumi includes the original game and the fandisk with some neat animations added. This is the version to play if you want the original experience. If you want even more routes, go for another version.

Vita

Hakuoki Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms, Collar x Malice and Amnesia are the best games you can get for the Vita imo. Some people dig a lot the Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk and Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly (I've only played BB, it was good but wasn't the best; wouldn't rate it as high as the others). There's Code Realize and its two fandisks (Future Blessings and Wintertide Miracles) and many people swear by them, but while I liked the common route in the first game, the rest didn't do it for me. You can find all of these except CxM and the CRs on Steam, and the Hakuoki games get dirst cheap on sale. Best bang for your buck of the saga. The CR games have PS4 ports and CxM has a Switch one, which you already know.

Switch

*rolls up sleeves* LET'S GO.

To get it out of the way: Hakuouki KW and EB are getting a Switch rerelease and a new translation and will be released as a single game, Hakuoki Chonicles of Wind and Blossom, on August 1st.

Collar x Malice fucking nails the mystery and lowkey horror vibes with and excellent plot that's interconnected in every route. CxM Unlimited is its fandisk and only recommended if you really have the CxM itch, because it's mostly fluff and the little plot there is is at most functional. It has a route where Ichika joins Adonis and you get to see its inner workings though. That was very interesting.

Bustafellows is 100% found family vibes with a very assertive protagonist. It's a mystery/action story and the team dynamics are sort of Ocean's 11-ish. Hilarious, heartbreaking at times, I've never felt more dread in a game than heading towards the basement in a certain's guy's route. There are two unlockable stories after you finish the routes of the guys, one of which I thought was glorious, another which sets up a sequel and is a big downer but I also really liked. It gets heavy at times with murder, suicide, sexual assault, human trafficking, among other kinds of violence, but despite it, it's generally a very funny and upbeat game. We're getting the sequel next year. Also available on PC.

Café Enchanté baits you with the premise of being a girl who manages a coffee shop patronized by handsome supernatural beings, so it's a real surprise when the cannibalism shows up. Anyway. Great game, but I'm afraid saying more would kind of defeat the point. Reminds me of Megami Tensei games, so if coffee shop AUs with supernatural world-ending threats are your thing, go for it. Just be warned that the fandom has kind of collectively agreed that poster boy's route never happened.

Birushana is a hidden gem that goes on sale super cheap and is also probably a hit or miss thing. You play as the legendary Yoshitsune, who in this game is a girl disguising her gender, but she's an amazing warrior as in history. It has the best otome couple I've ever seen, bar none, with Yoshitsune and Noritsune. The game is worth the price just to see them fall in love on the battlefield and watch Noritsune chug down Respect Women Juice all the way through it. The thing is... the rest of routes aren't great. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed how utterly unhinged they got at times, but the plot got worse as it deepened. Still. Noritsune. And I loved that most of the guys respected her as a warrior and were aware she was as capable or a better warrior than them and she didn't need a man to protect her. Very refreshing. One of my faves got done dirty by the translation because they started pulling lines out of thin air to make him creepier. Just him. Why. It's not like he needed the help.

Virche Evermore Error Salvation is also a good one if you can handle continuous drama and see egregiously bad science and say, "You know what? It's magic. Humans in this world are just built different." The worldbuilding is really interesting and the characters very enjoyable, though they don't feature a lot in each other's routes or aren't that friendly with each other. The continuous tragedy may tire you out, or maybe it'll work and emotionally destroy you. It didn't get any emotional reaction out of me until a certain point near the end, but I enjoyed the game a lot, nevertheless. We're getting the sequel this November and I'm really looking forward to it.

Variable Barricade: a fun romp where a young heiress has to chose a fiancé among the four disaster bachelors her grandpa has selected. It's not really similar to Ouran, but it reminded me a little of it at times. It's a pretty light game. The BFF is a gothic lolita otaku who has the time of her life shipping you with the guys, and the butler... oh boy the butler.

Amnesia, as I mentioned earlier, has a PC port as well as the Vita version, as well as two localized fandisks for the Switch (Amnesia x Crowd) that I can't speak of because I haven't played them yet. The protagonist has supernatural amnesia and must piece together her life while avoiding that other people realize she's lost her memory. It's a super intriguing game the first time you play, really nailed the being completely and utterly lost in the protagonist's shoes. A required play to get in on the cage jokes. It's sort of a rite of passage for otome gamers.

Jack Jeanne has probably the best group dynamics of any otome I've seen. I think some people have issues with the protagonist because they find her passive, but to me she felt the complete opposite. Everybody is adorable. A sentimental story of hard work, being young and and fighting for your dreams, 10/10, no notes. I lied, there's a note: Tanakamigi deserved a route! Where is our Tanakamigi route! щ(゜ロ゜щ)

Last but not least at all, the two Piofiores. Mafia games where all trigger warnings you can think of apply. Well, maybe not the cannibalism, that's still Café Enchanté's crowning glory. Fated Memories, the first one, has its ups and downs, but has very enjoyable characters, rock-solid worldbuilding, an amazing atmosphere set in 1920s Italy with a jazzy soundtrack that ends up living rent free in your brain. The last routes of the first game, Gil's and Finale, are worth the full price of the game alone. Piofiore Episodio 1926 is a masterpiece of the otome genre. It doesn't have a single boring route, and the final stretch (Advent Calendar-Alternativa-Secret Character route) has the best writing I've seen in an otome. Lots of points of view and situations interconnecting, an excellent final couple, top notch interactions between the main characters. Just the best.

2024 Writing Stats

What a beautiful year it has been. In July of 2023, I wrote my first piece of fanfiction. I didn’t do any writing stats for last year, mainly because I didn’t really put any stock into what I was doing. I didn’t think it’d turn into my obsession, but here we are!

Now that I’m a full year (and then some) into writing fanfic, I’ve got loads of data to share, but I’ll try to keep it short and interesting.

These were my ending stats from last year. I figured I’d include them to see basically a starting point for this year. So this is how the year started.

And this is how it’s going. As you can see, there were some big changes! Let me give y’all some cool breakdowns.

In 2024, I:

My fics were hit 9,357 times!

I got to experiment in writing. I tried fluff and dark fics, but I’m still doing the best with smut and angst. 

“I’m Pregnant” with Ikemen Prince is my highest kudo and viewed fic (impressive since it’s multi-chaptered and you can only kudo it once.) It’s a fluff/angst set of drabbles and headcanons about the princes’ reactions to reader being pregnant.

Memento was my highest kudo and viewed fic for a very long time. That was honestly the first smut I ever wrote. First smut and first fanfic, really. It’s reassuring to see that it still gets a lot of love.

Memento (Gilbert - IkePri), The Perfect Distraction (Okazaki - CxM), Between His Teeth (Gilbert - IkePri), and Incomparable (Nokto/Dahlia/Licht - IkePri) are all smut fanfics.

I wanted to add in my hit stats since Deceit and Decay is in here, which is a multi-chapter dark long fic I’m in the progress of writing. It won’t receive as many kudos due to being multi-chapter, but it has gotten a lot of views, and that’s pretty cool. I think having fluff, angst, and smut all on my top viewed fics is really fucking cool. It kind of makes me feel like I’ve managed to do something memorable with each genre I’ve tried.

I joined Tumblr May 28th, 2024. I guess I have a thing about starting things mid-year, haha. There are a lot of small ideas and headcanon posts that aren’t listed on my ao3, but there are no easy Tumblr stats for writing.

I did, however, create my first OC this year, and two others that I really love as well. I made an RP blog for one of them! I've gotten art done of all of them! And countless stories were written for all of them - some only in my head, but same same.

All-in-all, it has been an amazing year for me as a writer. I hope to do more next year, and do bigger and better things as well. I'd like to play around with ideas more. I'd like to write more long fics. I'd like to have an overwhelming amount of stories written for people to feast on.

so I loved the vibes of the three you recommended, so I tried to go for either dark stuff with plot or lighthearted fluffy funny stuff, preferably with spice in both. and I settled on piofiore, collar x malice, virche evermore, and I was gonna leave it at that but then I also bought sympathy kiss because fluff + some steam….already started collar x malice and obsessed with my beloved boyfailure Mineo!

I was not expecting to like Collar x Malice so much~!

I'm obsessed with Okazaki even though I haven't been playing his route in a while, everytime I play the game I have this eerie sensation that I need to write a fanfic. But I'm not even sure how to write the ideas that are crossing my mind.

It's quite fun considering I'm a writer~ anyways, you can expect a fanfic as soon as I finish with CxM and the fandisk (which i still need to purchase tbh ;^; i've been doing other things and i haven't been able to purchase it)

BTW: I already played Shiraishi route♡ which did nothing but making me crave more dark endings. I need to pursue Aiji but I'm reluctant on doing it without having first the fandisk~

I feel IU's pain in Hotel del Luna~ wanting so many pretty things and not being able to get them because we don't have enough money, is unfair 😭 but I'm pinning on getting Piofiore too~ so it's gonna take me some time.

flips out in the funniest way possible. his face is beet red, palms sweaty, as he loudly panics about you springing the surprise attack on him. tries to do the same thing to you but can't work up the nerve to do something so affectionate. he thinks it was really cute-- he doesn't tell you this directly, but at this point every thought that crosses his mind he's saying, so you find out anyways. in the end you have to comfort him about the whole thing. later remarks how that was something in his '100 Heart-Jerking Love Confessions' book he'd always wanted to try. promises that he'll surprise you with something even more cute and romantic next time.

takeru sasazuka:

immediately tenses up and calls you an idiot, trying to dodge the remainder of your kisses. if he manages to get away from you he immediately looks away so you can't see the heat rising to his cheeks. if he doesn't, he's protesting and tossing out insults as you laugh and kiss him all over. the moment he recovers, though, you lose. now he's the one teasing you. careful with this one. keep pushing him and he's gonna jump you. best cancel any plans you had for the rest of the day, because you're not going anywhere.

kei okazaki:

laughs, savoring the sweet gesture. he pulls you into a tight hug. pouts about you surprising him like that-- that's cheating! he buries his head in your neck and starts mumbling about how unfair it is that you can do that but he's not allowed to surprise you with kisses all over. he quickly reminds you *why* he's not allowed to have free reign with his kisses as he starts attacking your neck, nipping at the fragile skin and attempting to mark you until you squirm enough for him to stop. promises to get you back later... and you are absolutely certain he won't forget. makes a habit of paying you back several times over.

kageyuki shiraishi:

freezes, blinking for several moments as he tries to process what just happened. then he laughs, calls the affectionate gesture cute. he flips it on you by teasing you without mercy. what was that all about? are you so in love with him that you can't help but shower him in affection? in all honesty, he's pretty flustered by it. a gesture like that was so pure, so wholesome that it made him feel squishy and vulnerable inside. but he's supposed to be calm and aloof like always, he thinks, so he focuses his energy on teasing you. expect this incident to be brought up for months to come.

aiji yanagi:

this old man goes red pretty quick. he stares in disbelief for a few moments before bashfully hiding his face behind his hand. he shouldn't be getting this embarrassed over a few kisses, not at his age, but you just do things to him. you make him feel young and stupid again. it takes him a minute to finally look you in the eye, but he eventually returns your affections with a sweet kiss and a warning not to mess with him like that, or he'll have to return the favor. push your luck any further and enomoto's going to have to find somewhere else to stay for the night.

this man's brain does a full system reboot the moment you kiss him like that. him...? really? it makes him feel like some dashing protagonist at the end of a romantic comedy. once his brain restarts he's doing the same to you. forehead, nose, jaw, cheeks, and eventually your lips-- he leaves no area neglected. you just make him so happy. by the end you guys are romping around like excitable puppies, showing each other in all the affection you can manage.

Kei is a clinger. Regardless of if its a 10 minute nap or a full nights rest, he wants to have his arms wrapped around you as tight as he can! 

He talks in his sleep. Not anything too coherent, just disjointed words, but its easy enough to make out the fact that he’s dreaming of you quite often. The way he mumbles your name in a sleepy daze is very endearing.

He’s good at those claw machine games and any time you come across one, he offers to win you something. You’d practically have a collection of claw machine stuffed animals that’s so big you’d need an entire new room just to display them all! Kei asks you to point out what toy is your favorite and will aim for that one.

Sometimes he gets a bit jealous when you’re not at his side. He knows its irrational but sometimes he just wishes you two were the only ones in the world because more than anything he wishes to be near you.

But, of course, he’s happy when you smile and enjoy time with your friends! He’d never get in between that! He finds the way you smile after you come home from hanging out with friends very refreshing. Your genuine happiness warms his heart.

Kei offers his weird snacks to you all the time even if he knows you’re going to say no, just to make sure you’re aware that he’ll share if you want him to!

He sends you text messages throughout the day to remind you he’s thinking of you, and asks about how your day is going. He does this daily but it isn’t something he does out of obligation or habit. It is a sincere act as a result of you always being somewhere in his mind.

His favorite type of date with you is honestly just staying at home doing something like watching a movie while snuggled up on the couch or eating a meal together. He likes the one-on-one setting best and loves having you all to himself for the evening.

If someone hurts your feelings he will be unlikely to forgive them, and might make a carefully worded threat hidden behind a smile to the one who hurt you to remind them he won’t allow you to get hurt without there being consequences. 

You give his life meaning. He reminds you of this a lot. 

Leaning on you with his head on your shoulder is the most comfortable position to be in for him. He remarks that your shoulder is comfier than his pillow.

Kei has a habit of putting his hands on your cheeks when he kisses you, and also caressing your cheeks in general.

A lifetime of training and practice for vigilance, and his responsibilities as Commander of the Inquisition’s forces, means it’s a rare moment when Cullen gets caught by surprise, his awareness of his surroundings keeping him ready to react with swift, decisive action in any situation. There’s little to be done in a surprise meeting on the back stairs to the kitchen, however, especially not when he has a stack of papers in one hand and a half-eaten cinnamon pastry in the other, and the person standing above him is one his heart leaps to see. Maighread’s shock mirrors his own, the blush rising furious across her face visible even in the low light of the servants’ corridor.

His training serves him well; he recovers first. “Inquisitor.”

“Commander.” Her gaze drops, the tilt of her head obscuring the shy quirk of her lips. “Cullen.”

He swallows. It’s still new, the thing between them. A few kisses and stolen looks across the war table, messages delivered in person with a lingering brush of fingers, are all their time allows them, and while they haven’t had chance to talk about any… expectations, the sight of her so discomfited is enough to make his mouth run dry.

“Are you… on an errand?” he ventures, determined now that the astonishment is wearing off to make the most of even this brief bit of time alone together.

A shrug. “Just avoiding some dignitaries on a tour.”

“You have my sympathies.” He grins, but the pause is awkward.

Maighread takes a step downward, closer to him, and licks her lips. “I’m surprised to see you away from your desk at this hour. After the midday shift change you usually brief the training masters on the next day’s exercises.”

“You know my schedule?”

“I –” She looks away, twisting her fingers together. “Only so that I’d know when not to bother you, and only a little. And you do tend to have a pretty steady routine –”

“It isn’t a bad thing,” he reassures as he reaches out to stop her fidgeting. “I only… I did not know you paid such close attention.”

“You don’t think it’s creepy, do you?” she asks. “It’s honestly not like I set out to learn people’s habits, it’s just… a knack. In the Circle –” He hates the worried, almost fearful way she glances at him then. “Well. People didn’t enjoy the reminder that they were being watched all the time.”

He squeezes her fingers. “We aren’t in the Circle. I’m glad you’re so vigilant, it means you’ll be safer out in the field. And… you are right about my schedule, but I decided to give charge of the drills to one of my lieutenants today. I came to see Cook about expanding our supply chains.”

“Is the supply of fancy Orlesian cakes running low?” A sly look, and a smile as she gestures to his face. “You have powdered sugar around your mouth.”

His own cheeks heat now as he tucks the papers under his arm to wipe away the evidence of his secret sweet-tooth. Maker, he might have made it all the way to the battlements without noticing the slip, and it was easy enough to imagine how quickly news of the spectacle would have travelled through the barracks.

He moves his hand away. “Better?”

“No, it’s –” Maighread frowns, chewing the inside of her cheek, and he barely has time to register how her gaze flashes to his before she’s leaning forward, brushing her thumb over his mouth and chasing the movement with a swift press of her lips. “There. Now it’s gone.”

She pulls back. He watches her smile, small and nervous, hopeful that she hasn’t overstepped some boundary, and standing looking up from a few steps below her, Cullen realises that this is the first time she’s ever initiated a kiss with him. Whenever he comes to her, she reaches out like one drowning, but otherwise always so careful to keep herself contained, to smother all signs of affection like a feral cat hiding an injury. The trust behind this new gesture… his heart thunders with the hope he might be worthy of it.

“Are you sure?” he teases, grinning encouragement.

“Well I can’t see any – oh.” Her frown lifts, and once more her cheeks darken with colour. “Would you, uh… like me to have a closer look?”

He answers with as much solemnity as he can manage. “I would be very grateful, Inquisitor, if you would.”

The breath that fans across his cheek wobbles slightly, but his hand goes to steady her waist as her fingers flutter against his jaw. His other hand, still holding the pastry, stays far back to keep any crumbs from falling on her clothes. There’s an instant where she opens her mouth as if to say something more, but then she dismisses the thought with a shake of her head and darts forward again.

He feels the earnest tension in her closed mouth, the moment when she relaxes because he hasn’t pulled away. Part of him decides he should, if only to protect her from the soldiers’ gossip should anyone interrupt this unplanned tryst, but his sense of duty lies forgotten in the wayside of Maighread’s touch, the way she moves closer to him. Their respective positions on the stairs create a strange angle, the unfamiliar craning of his neck conjuring images of other positions that might replicate it. But that can come later, if they both want it. For now, however, it’s enough to steal a moment with her in a hallway, with the sweetness of sugar on his tongue.
