I’ll link the post here but to me I unironicaly think this is some subtle queer coding!!!!!!!!

Tl;dr: a lot of queer men- especially European and Immigrant queer men- would use the fact that they were foreign as a way to ‘explain’ away their flamboyancy so people wouldn’t expect them of being queer (that’s where we get the ever so wonderful gay or european stereotype xhsnshsnsjg) and also just in general a lot of his character traits to ME have queer undertones or are reminiscent of queer Spanish history and I SO BADLY wanna make a properly researched and sourced and credited deep dive on it skmeday cuz it’s SO FASCINATING

But also @cloverisnonexistantbro dw I’m not accusing you of this it just reminded me!!!!!!!! When analysing a character like this it’s REEEEEEEEALLY important to not fall into the terf-y trap of comparing things like bone structure or hair or stuff like that cuz again you can fall under that rabbit hole of terf radicalism pretty quickly alas alas (but again Ik you’re trans so ik that’s not what you’re implying I just mean in general HANSBWNEHDUXHX)

And also somewhat related but somewhat unrelated to this post it’s really important t Not fall under racist stereotypes when doing this kinda thing. Like,,,,,,, calling Luis a sexy flamboyant tan Spanish guy or anything Yknow BDBWHENDHDJUD I’m SURE nobody would try and do that (and if they did I’d explode them) but I always keep it in the back of my mind

But to round it off on an INFINITELY more positive note HANSHWNHESNDJDJZJ I think it makes sense for his character too!!!!!!!!! He’s trying to impress Leon but he doesn’t wanna fully put himself or wear his heart on his sleeve!!!!!!!!! Even in his dying breath he tries to hold onto that fantasy which he does pretty often!!!!!!!! He knows that fantasy isn’t true but hey if it means the one man whose given him more hope than anyone else ever can might catch onto what he’s trying to imply then so be it Yknow!!!! (That being said I don’t think he’s LYING to Leon or anything; the remake made it really clear that he never tries to lie to anyone of tries to coerce our protagonists into doing anything they wouldn’t wanna do- like he’ll charm people in powerful positions but not those he loves- I think Luis is just. Well. Trying to get Leon to like him Yknow. Don Quixote and Sancho and all that HANDHENEHSN)

Also tangent but I could go OOOOOOOOON FOREVERRRRRRRRR about the queerness of Don Quixote and how that relates to Luis and also just. How he relates to that book like. IN GENERAL. I love him

I had @void-detective ask me a few days ago if the ornaments on Luis’ jacket had any particular meaning and as with everything I fell down,,,,,, one hell of a rabbit hole HDNWHWNEHDNX

So, first off; I couldn’t find any super definitive answer to what was on his jacket but I have some pretty good theories!!!!!!!

@vespereargentum and their friend on Twitter helped point out to me that the floral designs are really reminiscent of old Spanish Renaissance furniture and like yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean look at it!!!!!!!!

These photos aren’t very good but you get the gist!!!!!!!

Why would Capcom put visual designs from FURNIATURE onto clothing I have no clue, but considering the fact that almost every single detail of Luis’ character down to the damn rings are extremely purposeful I’m sure we could pick up some pieces!!!!!

It also kinda makes sense, like,,, character wise too y’know- Valdelobos was a glorified Catholic cult and obviously they kept a very old-fashioned mindset so visuals-wise it makes sense!!!!!

@ 11cool also pointed out that his jacket has a lot of similar motifs to Matadors and Traje De Luces which they have their own post you can check out if you wanna!!!!!!!! Ofc there brings up the whole issue of y’know, Bad spanish stereotypes and bullfighting etc etc but this whole post is just throwing stuff at the wall in complete honesty!!!!!

And like the og post and @cloverisnonexistantbro said there’s a not for none Chance that the designers were trying to play into abstract windmill motifs would would be super cool!!!!!

@theprestigegirly and @kaychen666 were also kind enough to point out that the flowers on his jacket kinda look like poppies!!!!!!

And I think most people already know that poppies are a pretty common symbol for death (especially after war which I’ll touch on in a second) which. Y’know. Would be just SUCH A FUN AND SILLY DETAIL if true HAHDHENDHSJ

And like the og already has put so eloquently there are just,,,,,, S O many lil design elements of Luis’ that are so perfectly purposeful,,,;,,,… down to the fact that Luis has a gun from WWI (Realistically probably passed down from hsi grandfather, who would have probably had to have lived through Spanish civil wars (yayyyyy we love generational trauma yippeee another thing to add onto Luis amirite /lh)) and down to the fricken rings he wears and what fingers he wears them on!!!!!! (One of the rings for instance is of the Virgin Mary and it’s supposedly said that wearing a ring on the fingers Luis does symbolises leadership and compassion etc etc etc Yknow ring logic HDBEHEBXHX)

So like idk!!!!!!!! If anyone who actually has knowledge of Spanish culture wants to chip in PLEASE PLEASE DO!!!!!!! I’m the whitest Mf on planet earth there’s only so much justice I can give Luis BSNDHENDJSNSJ

let’s talk about minecraft diaries rebirth.

and why it’s literally amazing. (warning: this will contain spoilers. lots of them. also, long post ahead.)

i think a lot of people hate mcdr because they were expecting a remake; but the point of rebirth is for jess to rewrite it. it wasn't supposed to be exactly the same.

honestly i went into mcdr with a closed mind. as an og mcd fan, i thought that this was going to suck ass and that i'd rant about how bad it was to my friends later. but actually watching it, i just... couldn't help but immediately fall in love with it.

ik im probably the only motherfucker that likes mcdr, but honestly how could i not? for one, garroth and zenix actually have personalities at the beginning. AND; the villagers? actually amazing. donna made me smile, visher made me laugh and cry, brendan was just bein as good as ever. like... i even didn't despise emmalyn with every ounce of my soul like i usually do?? the characterizations of them were GOOD, man.

and honestly, aphmau like--the way she spoke, her whole thing. it was reallyyy well done in my opinion. she was oblivious to things, but it wasn't overdone and wasn't done in a way to make her annoying. she's a very appealing character in mcdr, a main protagonist i do not mind following along with. her dynamics to the characters are really cool and all very unique.  gonna cut it here so i don’t clog y’all’s feed cuz i got a lot to say :)

the early use of aphmau’s powers was actually pretty cool as well, it also really showed how clueless aphmau really was to everything going on around her. AND UH, THE FACT THAT SHE THOUGHT THAT GARROTH FELT FAMILIAR? GOLDEN. absolutely golden.

AND GENE OH BOY, the early introduction of gene? ik a lot of people are upset about it, but god DAMN i love it so much. his role in the story is very important in original, and i cannot express how much joy this brought me learning that he was actually getting the proper attention for it. and the fact that gene and aphmau were working together?? i mean ik gene was just trying to use her to get back to the "shadow abyss" (pretty pog replacement for the nether, gg) but god DAMN i loved every moment of it. i found their dynamic to be pretty fuckin funny to be honest, would absolutely love to see more of it.

i might be biased considering gene is one of my absolute favorite characters, but i honestly think that introducing gene this early on in the story was a good move. again, he's literally the right-hand man to the shadow lord. it makes you really wonder why he didn't have as much of an important role in season 1 or even 2 of the original mcd plotline. also, we get some of that good-ol-fashioned exposition with seeing early on how vylad and gene interact. vylad’s at a very strange point in the story right now; his motives are unclear, even to the side he’s ‘supposed’ to be taking (aka, a shadow knight.)  another early introduction to a character is zane! this, my friends, is good. really good. i’d say that zane is the main antagonist of season 1 in the original series--and he wasn’t even introduced until like, episode 50. it’s not necessarily a bad thing, but him being introduced this early on really gives the audience a better understanding of what threats are out there and what our protagonist will have to encounter in the future. in the original series, there’s not much explanation as to why lords are disappearing/dying left and right--and while yes, that was supposed to be the mystery of it, having some of that early information is a better move in terms of writing. 

AND IVAN?? BEING A PART OF THE JURY OF NINE?? I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR ANYTHING MORE LIKE GOD DAMN that was a very pleasant surprise i'll just say that, thank you jess :)

and no i did not loop the 4 minutes of screentime laurance got in that one episode haha who would do that i would never do that anyways

SPEAKING of laurance, im so glad jess actually wrote him in this early :) she totally could have just waited for the first time aphmau visits meteli and meets him there, but no! she put him in an early episode. i dont even care if she did it just to shut up the fans about laurance but man that made me so happy seeing him, even if it was only for a bit.

okay i kinda wanna go over the guards real fast firstly; garroth. ignoring how weird the helmet showing emotions is, i really like how garroth is portrayed. he's under a lot of pressure because the village is putting a lot of the blame on him for malik's death, and he's trying his hardest to keep things running. the fact that garroth utterly refused the to take up the position of lord and even got a little snappy about it was actually really cool to see as well. and while he doesn’t have that same “reserved, quiet, observant” feel as the original mcd version of him had, this version of garroth is absolutely awesome. he’s more direct and blunt, is significantly more sarcastic, and isn’t as stiff or as much as a pushover as he is in the original. he even has a sense of humour. also, no homo, but he’s kinda adorable.  plus, the desperation that he goes through during the whole thing is just--it’s really cool to see how hard he’s trying to prove himself and help the village. my rating for mcdr garroth? 9/10. the helmet... the helmet is the main thing throwin me off, i can’t lie. next, zenix. oh BOY do i have a lot to say about this man. first of all, his and garroth’s dynamic is incredible. when i saw how the interacted with each other, my first thought was: father and son. zenix has this immaturity to him that is so fucking fun and interesting to watch, and seeing how garroth scolds him is so fuckin good man. and! seeing how he interacts with the rest of the village... honestly, if jess ever picks this story up again, i would probably cry when zenix (literally) backstabs garroth. HELL, i hope that’s something that still happens, it’d be heartbreaking to witness this character that we’ve come to love hurting his mentor, the man who took him in. he’s just a really good character all in all, and much more appealing than the original mcd zenix. ...except season 3 zenix. no zenix can be better than that one.  either way, zenix is amazing written to be the comic relief and he’s just an all-out lovable character in this series.  finally, dale and brian. yes i’m going to group them up because there’s not much to say regarding them, but i do want to address them. for starters, we have brian; who’s already 16 when the story starts. good on jess for doing that, because in the original aphmau watched brian be born and age INCREDIBLY quick, haha. THOUGH i do feel like there’s a slight connection lost there--one of the hardest things about brian’s betrayal in the original series in the fact that we watched him grow up in phoenix drop. we were there from the moment he was born, to the second he betrayed phoenix drop. BUT OF COURSE, this version is a lot more realistic, so it’s understandable. i just think that if it’s brian who’ll be betraying phoenix drop again (if it even goes down that same route), it won’t hit as hard unless jess really takes the time to grow the connection between brian and aphmau.  as for dale; gotta admit, love it. and like, i think one of the main things about how good of a call it was to make him a drunkard from the beginning is considering how much the village is struggling. the fact that the second-in-command is literally drunk all of the time really conveys the message of, “yeah. this village needs help.” plus, he’s another good comic relief character. i loved seeing molly and dale’s relationship too, it was very funny.  PLUS. we were blessed with a well scene, in which aphmau had to help villagers out of the well. i don’t know about you guys, but that was one of my favorite nods to the original series. i cannot thank jess enough for that, there was a smile on my face the entire time. another amazing thing--visher’s character. instead of just being introduced to this quirky lil merchant who only had one or two interactions with aphmau like in the first one, we got to sit there and really get a feel for someone worth remembering and worth mourning over. we had a reason to be sad over his death, it wasn’t just some npc getting blown up suddenly. this was different, and this hurt.  one of the major things that i hope is to come out of this is for jess to fix the major mistakes she had when writing the first series. she’d expressed how unhappy she was with some of the decisions she made, and i’m glad that she’s getting that second chance to undo the things she didn’t like. this series also gives her a second chance to really, really dig into characters and their motives. like, gimme laurance backstory in better detail. or like, garroth and zane’s relationship from back when they were kids? or how vylad died and who killed him? etc etc. she’s already done an excellent job so far, and i can’t wait to see where this goes. that is, if she ever continues it. god, i wish there were more episodes so that i could seriously let you guys know how beautiful of a series this is. there’s so much i want to say about rebirth, but i think i’ll stop here. i might say some more shit about it later, but if there’s anything i’d want you to take away from this, it’s: give minecraft diaries rebirth a chance. there’s a lot of potential, and this is a chance for jess to really change things for the better! ... but again, that is if this ever is continued.

well 👁👄👁 there r quite few,,, and the main reason is colouring most of these r comps and i a b s o l u t e l y sucked at comps and esp at making the colouring consistent there lol so lets begin lol  1 (u have no idea how muchi love this set) 2 (i fucking mastered it i wanted to remake it for two years and i finally did!! 60 fps smooth good moments iconic performance iconic hair colour his attitude bruh and ofc the fact that i could do sth with colouring,,,,,, and chose such an unusual colour scheme that i doubted jckdckfdk and it still worked out 🥺) 3 (lol i had this idea written down since 2018 as well and this year i could finally collect all moments i needed and oh boi yeah,,, AND COLOURING I COULD ALMOST yeah almost do sth decent with it there r still couple moments id changed but im pleased) 4 (im so happy whenevr i see this CUZ IT ALL WORKED OUT it was such an impulsive comp i literally only saw couple moments for past few years as well where i could see three of them in one frame and suddenly I WAS LIKE I FUCKING MUST POST THOSE MOMENTS SOMEHOW and im so proud of colouring it looks so well T_T) 5 (the colouring ofc im still :o that i could get rid of that shitty shit dkksjkj AND THE MOMENTS ITSELF?????? My house mate and I have been watching scary movies leading up to Halloween. So far we've seen The Shining, I Know What You Did Last Summer Carrie and now we just finished Insidious. Insidious was terrifying as was Carrie, especially the part at the very end. Why do you think you enjoy scary movies so much?

theres many answers to this question i dont even know where to start.

i guess going back to when i was little, i was always into spooky shit. i always loved halloween. i would sit for HOURS and watch every single haunting show on the travel channel or anything about cryptids. i was always tried to be scared (but then turning into a bitch when shit got TOO real. like my grandpa used to torment me with his “chucky” voice cuz he knew that goddamn doll scared the shit out of me and my stepbrother went as ghostface for one halloween and that fucking costume was in our closet and i was like... im gonna be murdered. that costume is coming to life and murdering me. mind you, i hadnt even seen scream at that point the costume just scared the absolute fuck out of me. no ones scared of that costume now but like... being a child in the mid-late 90s that shit was horrifying please believe). so anyway theres that element

another thing that i think played a huge part in my love and fascination for the genre was i grew up in like a true crime house lmao my grandma was constantly watching CNN and i grew up hearing about like jon benet and columbine and the menendez brothers and then into the 00s you had like scott peterson. and i just was always so intrigued by the psychology of killers and what led people to commit these acts. and of course i ended up learning about bundy and dahmer and ramirez and gein... and you have these movies that sometimes explore a deeper level of whats going on. sometimes they dont and its just mindless killing. but both were fascinating to me. anything that gets into humanity’s dark side intrigues me. humans are capable of some fucked up shit that no one really likes to acknowledge but you can explore that in horror. like i was really into torture porn for a while until i found my limit lmao but i was always like “i need it to be MORE fucked up!” and then you get shit like the human centipede or a serbian film and youre like you know what? im good 😂 

but even outside of torture porn im just in general always on the hunt for the next good scare. i want to be genuinely terrified when i watch a movie. i want that lingering dread long after its over and its so hard to come by these days. like the first paranormal activity? royally fucked me up and im still to this day feeling its effects. when i tell you i could not sleep the night i saw it.... and for 2 days after i had to keep my lights on.... i want that feeling again

and then theres the artistic standpoint. i used to sit and watch dvd extras of how all the gore effects were made and how sets were put together and that shit still is so fun to me. lowkey theres still a part of me that wants to get into that profession but i have... no talent at all. like you really gotta admire the shit that goes into practical effects. its breathtaking. its literally a bunch of magic tricks i have so much respect for the people that do it tom savini is my hero

horror also brings the family together lol my mom loves them. i remember going to blockbuster with her and always picking out horror movies to watch. we marathoned all the halloween and friday the 13th movies together. we just went and saw the new halloween together. my grandpa used to take me to horror movies when i was younger (i have a fond memory of seeing the hitcher remake and the part where the dude gets snapped in half i CACKLED in the theater and my grandpa was right next to me making an exaggerated noise of disgust like he always does cuz he’s dramatic and likes to play shit up lol wonder where i get it from) he used to tell me i reminded him of drew barrymore in firestarter so... thanks for that grandpa still havent seen that movie but i’ll take it as a compliment. even now with fearfest on amc my grandpas always yelling at me about whats on tv so i can watch. one of my uncles is a slasher fan. one of my cousins who recently passed was a HUGE horror fan. feel like it was kind of inevitable for me to end up here lol

at the end of the day horror is just fun. but i think its also important to note that a lot of people have a misconception about horror. like i still today see people talk about how horror has no meaning and its only with recent films where the genre is starting to get “deep” and thats just... not true. and you can tell these are statements being made by non horror fans whove seen like maybe 3 movies tops. horror has always been used as a storytelling device to reflect the current fears and problems in society. you can take horror movies from different time periods and get a good sense of what was going on, what people were feeling, what the world was going through. i honestly think its the most important genre. you can explore themes in horror that other genres dont necessarily allow, certainly not to the extent horror does. you get a good mix of your schlockfests but then you also have movies that are trying to reflect something back to us. 

horror gets a bad rap. and people like to act like theyre too good for it. youre not. calm down. just enjoy the ride.
