I do find it kind of funny the thrill I get from hour long video essays about musical theatre drama and how a lot of the live action movies I can tolerate are film adaptations of musicals I know I will never afford to see in real life and I think musicals are so fucking fun but every second I spent in theatre classes in school made me want to fucking die

as someone who wasnt here at the time (was a fan from about 2011-2013) what exactly defines the "softlaunch era" pre-coming out that i hear you and others refer to?

you've come to the right place cuz this is the era when i truly became a Phannie... "gay softlaunch" is generally considered 2017-18, but to be more specific it was october 31, 2016-june 13, 2019!

before they came out this was also referred to as "post-baking universe" referencing the halloween 2016 monster pops video that had an (at the time) abnormal amount of raunchy humor and just general derangedness. nothing like it is today, but that point felt very significant and dan even brought it up in liveshows like yeah idk what happened there and when phil called a peach an ass in a gaming video dan said "we live in a post-baking universe" (i believe fans coined the term tho).

people have also called it the "glass closet era" which is a divisive name for a lot of people cuz "glass closet" can be seen as kind of a mean term and it implies like, stereotyping or speculating or the "we been knew" behavior dan had talked about in BIG. which i understand that feeling, but i don't think that's what was happening, because the way i see it was queer flagging. ways they could show a little bit who they really were without saying it just yet. they weren't Out out, but they were just like. openly talking about attraction to men and finding men hot and not calling it a Man Crush or anything. dan would bring up queerness more often in liveshows, which hes mentioned queer artists and stuff before but now it was also making jokes about like.. being in a gas leak man porn fantasy in his first livestream of 2017 LMAO. phil would make a lot more innuendos, which hes always done, but now he wasnt pretending like he didnt know what he was saying. dan started wearing a single hoop earring on his right ear. this is an old school form of queer flagging, in The Olden Days (im too lazy to look up when but like my 70-something year old history teacher knew about this) if a man had an earring on his left ear, he's straight, and if he had one on his right, he's gay. that one's pretty subtle if you don't know much about queer history and there were Great Debates over whether or not we should take it to mean he is gay, but personally i saw it as like. he was letting us know without needing to say the G word out loud just yet!

i think a really important part of this era was even outside of directly discussing queerness, they were both trying to become more authentic online and figuring out how to do that without compromising their own privacy. dan stopped straightening his hair and rebranded and opened up about his mental health. phil's authenticity journey seemed a bit slower and wasn't as overt or seemingly drastic as dan's was, but it was happening! he changed up his hair!!! which yes its kinda silly to talk abt dnp's hair but the emo fringe was Their Brand. phil in particular said that, the emo fringe was a comfort place but he was feeling like he was trapped in having it forever because it was Who He Was, so it was a huge deal for him! he opened up a little bit about his physical health, both of them were a bit more honest about all the stress and anxiety they were dealing with (the mukbang is a pretty good video where they talk about that and an interesting one to watch in retrospect) and their whole 2018 tour was themed around whether they should Give The People What They Want or do what they wanted to do.

okay but the Naruto universe is so fucking weird yet funny if you explain it and question it.

first, you have this lil orphan broke kid ninja boy named after a fishroll. then, you have an emo kid who acts like he got parents and a good way in life despite the fact he’s equally as much of an orphan as Mr. Broke-Blonde-Bitch. THEN you have this normal chick with pink hair who signed up for absolutely none of this nonsense yet got dragged into it. tell me why it’s these three against the world yet none of them can function together? it’s like watching ferrets hyped up on PCP fight over raw spaghetti noodles. dont even get me started when they were in school together, i can bet every person here 6 cents that at some point Sakura aka Ms. Fuckall got tired of Naruto and Sasuke’s bullshit and just tried to abandon them at an animal shelter.

speaking of school and general tomfoolery, why was the dude in charge of these three young squishy brained freaks the most depressed 20 something year old creature on the planet? i will admit, Kakashi is attractive and a great dude. he is so iconic, he misses his old team, and it’s clear he wanted best for his Group of Weird Children but he also reads porn all day and his mask probs smells like cheap aftershave.

back on track. so you’ve got orphan #1, orphan #2, Ms. Get-Me-Out-Of-Here, and Emotionally Repressed Man in one team. what do the kids do? beef for like 3048384 episodes. what does Kakashi do? try to teach them the power of friendship the entire damn series. oh, and let’s not forget that Naruto apparently has a demon fox inside him because of course he does.

anyways, once the team gets good at teaming they haul off to take their lil ninja exams. who do they meet? some kid named Gaara with smudged eyeliner and shaved brows. he’s a red-head, that’s cute. oh and he can control sand and tries to kill every child in the exams because his dad is a piece of shit hipster. who else do they meet? a kid named Rock Lee who can kick really hard, a girl named Tenten who wishes for all of us to stfu, and poor Neji who can’t keep doing this. there’s also some guy named Guy. yeah, the chunin exams nearly flop because Gaara doesn’t know how to act right.

all this is happening but the pivotal of it all? Sasuke decides to be extra emo and FUCKS OFF TO KILL HIS HALF BLIND SICKLY OLDER TWINK BROTHER.

then, Naruto decides he wants to harness his powers and FUCKS OFF WITH AN OLD ASS BUSHY HAIRED MAN WHO WRITES PORN. Jiraiya needs to be studied on a microscopic spiritual level. he is why SCP’s exist.

Sumtimes I think about selling the shelves I paint ngl- like I paint these vintage/older wooden hanging shelves that I thrift/buy second hand/get at the local trade-buy-sell market every month and I have like I think maybe 8-10 of these shelves because I love them, they're so pretty and I always buy the ones with the heart cut outs on them. I don't like repaint them to look 'modern' or anything or destroy them like some ppl who buy old furniture or decor do when painting them. Usually I just clean them off, sand if needed and then paint whatever i want and leave the wood showing through between the details. I've only ever fully painted one shelf and that was when I was like 13 and dumb and then I sanded it down about a year or so ago and then did paint the whole thing black[which I regret instead of just staining it a darker color] and ended up doing an 80s arcade theme because I made it for all my FNAF figures and that was when I started painting these shelves. About six months ago I started painting one of the two shelves I'd picked up for my room at my sisters and left a majority of the wood and didn't fully paint over it but did neon stars, music notes, skelanimals, and like scene kid/emo type stuff and my intrests on it[I did end up painting way more then I wanted but it's cool].

Idk I just sometimes wonder if anyone would buy these shelves if I ever wanted to try painting them how I do then selling them but I also feel like I couldn't do that with a clear mind bcz these shelves cost me like 3-15 bucks and I'd have to mark them up yo atleast over 20 bucks since painting can take me days to weeks to do and how much paint they use[and my neon paint isn't cheap.] and I feel like that's scalping in a way bcz ppl can go out yo their local thrifts, second hand shops and yard sales, try to find one for a cheap price and give it their best shot as well.

the fact that Shou specifically says that it makes Ritsu feel MORE inferior??? The way Shou goes about phrasing things is so simple and childish, "else your life would suck" ? "trouble-maker of a dad" ? That's a life full of trauma and violence and that's his terrorist father who practically mass murdered too many to count. I can't do this. He's so 13 years old.

He mentions freeing everyone cuz he's acknowledging the presence of his lackeys, people who want Claw to be done & destroyed but never got enough strength to do anything, people who want out but you can't just walk out from an organization like Claw without having your life in danger, he mentions freeing everyone because he is aware of the kidnapped kids and brainwashed people, he wants to free everyone and himself too, becuz really he just wants a normal simple life where he could call his mother and not lie to her face about his dad turning into a psychopathic terrorist.

Something I like is how Shou's lackeys don't really serve a big purpose when it comes to battles and plot and things like that, yes they helped with the pacing of action when Minegishi showed up but that is so minor it's barely there. The sole purpose of Shou having lackeys is to demonstrate how much of a responsible and capable person he is, how he proved himself so much that adults saw enough good reason to put their faith and power in the hands of a 13 y/o, Shou is such a ruthlessly honest unashamedly intense ball of enthusiasm and confidence, and he makes such a good leader and supporting friend throughout the most bizarre spontaneous plan you could ever see, which btw made so much sense it just sounds weird out of context, but that's for another post.

this is tekz!!!!! she isnt really an OC but whatever. im stealing her. She came from an abandoned 4-part story on deviantart in 2009 called wolfs life!!!

you see!! my sibling collects vinyls and cassettes and cds and shit, right? they get them from bandcamp and he likes this one artist called OK glass!! Ok glass used to go by the name dictionary attack and one of his old, extremely obscure songs was called WOLFS LIFE 3. (it probably would have become lost media if he hadnt archived it lolz. this isnt particularly relevant i just think my sibling is really cool XD) anyways they showed it to me cuz the song and by extension the story was TOTALLY my kinda thing!!! and it WAS!!!! the song goes super hard. Its pretty much a narration of wolfs life 3... there arent any songs for the other parts. nobody knows how mr. john dictionary attack (idk his name LOL) found the story. Pretty much nobody cares about it except for my sibling and me. This song is a fucking treasure and both it and the story are such relics of their time that i cant help but absolutely ADORE how silly they are!!! Anyways the story itself is about a girl named Tannika, who goes by Tekz!! She has a crush on a boy who sits next to her in math class and a preppy best friend who ends up ALSO having a crush on the same kid which in 2009 translates to them being RIVALS!!! Anyways one day on a full moon tekz turns into a white wolf which is the rarest and presumably most magical type of wolf!!!! She turns into a wolf on full moons or when something romantic happens between her and her crush. Theres a reoccurring motif of one of them going "can i borrow a glue??" and them both going "red in the face". During math class. Anyways im OBSESSED with this story and the song. Wolfs life only ended up having 4 parts, one of which was never actually a part of the series itself for some reason!! And the story hasnt been updated since, yknow, 2009. So ive taken it upon myself to revamp it and make everyone emo!!! surprise user wildspiritwolve on deviantart!!!!

Anyways yeah. the song is so insane. i love it. Literally some 13 year old writes a really cliche self-insert story about wolves and uploads it to deviantart in 2009. 2 years later some random dude finds the 3rd part SOMEHOW and makes a song out of it that nobody cares about. in 2021 the song almost becomes lost media but luckily it doesnt because some random kid downloaded it. Said random kid shows it to their autistic sibling (ME!!!!). Said sibling becomes extremely attached to the song and its characters. Every part of this story is so obscure and weird!!!! My versions of the characters are pretty much my love letter to the internet, which allowed this chain of events to occur, much to everyones horror.

1 - How are you? Altogether, I'm doing alright. Today was a very stressful and exhausting day, but I made it through and now I get some time to just relax. 11 - Have you ever dyed your hair? Oh my god, yeah. Until very recently my hair had been consistently dyed since I was about twelve years old. The last time I shaved my head, I decided to let it grow in the way it naturally is (auburn in color) 13 - If you could change your eye color, would you? I wouldn't! I have green eyes and it's one of my favorite things about myself. 26 - Something you are working on right now: Honestly? 101 - Where would you like to live? I would honestly love to either be back in the northeast (Boston I miss u) or in the PNW. I have family in Idaho so Washington state would be great (relatively close by but not in Idaho) 102 - What would your dream house be like? This always confuses people, but I actually don't ever want to own a house! I'll be content to rent for the rest of my life. There's something so reassuring to me about the possibility of picking up roots and moving when I want to. 105 - Top three places to visit: I have no idea. I'm so used to road trips with my family that I don't have a list of places I'd love to visit, nor do I have a list that I enjoyed visiting all that much. Always museums though.

its been said many many times before but what i rlly love about fob more than any other band in their contemporary is how they broke genre barriers. and not even in like maybe a pretentious way or just that its cool of them to not be so close-minded but because EYE like more than one genre ! i grew up listening to hip-hop and r&b and then found my way to pop-rap and nicki minaj and gym class heroes and then other big pop stars and dancepop and i LOVE pop music !!!!!!!! and when i finally stumbled over fob and ab/ap I LOVED IT !!!! the mapa remix album is still so terribly underrated imo. and ofc as every other 13 year old did, i started listening to other "emo" bands but always kept close to fob because they made music with artists i was already familiar with. i couldnt find say mcr or p!atd (no hate) doing collabs with rappers but i DID find out that i had been listening to patrick's voice on timbaland's shock value five years before i even knew who fob was. and when i started growing out of emo, i had gotten more into edm (classic pipeline actually) i was already pretty familiar but when young and menace first dropped i was hooked instantly. and now as a happy adult, self loathing emo doesnt rlly cut it for me anymore, ive recently dove further into hardcore and of course....fob led me to it. i just LOVE that they were in every genre that i have loved and will continue to love and ones i didnt even know i would love. i rlly cant say that for a whole lot of other artists. i think fob is an amaaaazing POP band. and i say that with so much love because pop is GOOD! i think thats why i was always so disconnected from emo cuz so many of ppl here hate pop music. so lame. anyways yeah sorry for all this spam in your inbox. i saw ur rebuttal to someone hating on mania and i LOVE mania so i felt u were right to send this to <3 (also u like imagine dragons which gets a lot of hate from ppl for being a pop band which sucks :/)

13. talk about an au or story you came up with. When I was in middle school we had a school project where we had to invent our own country, make our laws n everythin from scratch n explain and make a short story therein. I remember all the dudes had some version of some videogame land where u had unlimited ammo or swirds or war but u could respawn infinitely. The girls had some version of Paris or New York where everything was a store or whatnot, truly the basic shit u expect from 13 year olds who have yet to develop a personality. Which is why i was kind of shy about talkin about my fkn Island in the middle of the Pacific that was just an Ecological Paradise. No war, no violence, no guns or weapons allowed and everything was. Green. It was called Baigca bcuz my fav animals were Bat Iguana and Cat in ascending order and i thought it sounded cool. The whole island was shaped like a Cat, the whiskers were mountain ranges extending out to sea, the nose was made fom a triangular river that flowed out to sea with the Capital City in the center. Gasoline wasn't allowed so we started our own airline with fully electric planes workin from Solar Power to bring in tourists and everything was built around the Environment and with nature always in mind. Despite how fkn lame it was at the time, lookin back in it now am rly proud of that whole project cuz they said do whatever and i said OK n made a Utopia. I seriously overthought EVERYTHING and included everything important to me in the country while never allowing for human colonization of more than like 40% of the island. The rest was wilderness specifically left there for the fauna and even the cities has no asphalt and very limited permissions for clearing trees for development. It was super cool but kinda got looked at weird for being the only 13 yo in the room with that concept in mind lol

Every since our therapist told Jasper to “love and be kind to your 13 year old self” pre-system awareness... I’ve been living my best life

The rest of the system still struggled with how others perceive them but I’m having a great time. Wearing emo shit in public and my coworkers seeing? Who cares! Why do they care! I’m doing so many things I’ve wanted to do when the body was 13 but I couldn’t. Now I’m in an adult body- still 13- but I’m no longer being actively traumatized and I have more access to things! Since I’m an adult I got to dye my hair purple!!! That’s my hair color!!

It’ll be ever better when I move... I’ll get to live the life I’ve always wanted to. I’m doing art for school and my future job now! Being an adult has allowed me to be 13 more :3
