The hardy annual Centaurea cyanus (cornflower, blue-bottle, bachelor's buttons) can be produced from seed planted directly in a sunny location. This cultivar came with an array of flower colours and they are popular with pollinators. The flower petals are edible and have a slightly spicy, clove-like taste and brighten up a summer salad.

I finished posting the unabashedly educational Sword Fic.

It includes a detailed (but hopefully beginner-friendly) explanation of all the steps of making a Nichirin blade from a sunny mountain like Mt. Youkou, a touch of swordsmith and metalworker folk lore (including demons), meta about what must make Kimetsu no Yaiba's swordsmithing methods different from real life methods, some character exploration for Haganezuka and his polishing method, vocabulary and additional resources in the chapter notes, and hopefully, an endearing, silly POV character to learn this all through.

I’m spending my precious Saturday on a networking-event-slash-teambuilding thing where everyone speaks French, I had to put on a “fruit themed outfit” and flat shoes, it’s cold AF and hosted outside, and I’m NOT getting paid for my attendance.

It’s just me and my prescription stimulants against a cruel, cruel world of sporty francophone morning people.

I love looking at the differences in typical house design around the country

Like in the south there are no basements, but that’s a pretty standard fixture of houses up north, so you end up with twice the square footage if it’s finished

On the other hand, style varies hugely. New Hampshire has some of the saddest box shaped houses I’ve ever seen

hat project I've had going for about a week now, post-blocking & pre cutting the ribbing off to reknit it, lol. it's up in the air if I'm felting this one, so I might make the pompom detachable until I make up my mind. this was originally a hat I knit about two years ago, & the gold yarn is a friend's handspun 🧶

A white flowered sweet pea cultivar with a powerful scent and long stems is Lathyrus odoratus 'High Scent' (syn. ‘King's High Scent’ / ‘April in Paris’). This plant is grown as an annual from seeds planted in the autumn or spring.

Monday Motivation Owl

A few weeks ago, our department manager Alice posted about our new addition of the stylish and innovative early-1950s magazine Flair, published by the Cowles Media Company under the visionary editorial direction of Fleur Cowles (1908-2009). Checking to see if our general library held any issues of Flair, we learned that it did not, but it did hold the 1953 Flair Annual, which compiled samples of the magazine’s February 1950 to January l951 run. The annual is in such good condition, we are transferring the volume to Special Collections.

The magazine was lavishly produced, filled with foldouts, bound-in booklets, and numerous die-cut windows that provided image transformation from one page to the next. For your motivation this Monday, we present one of those die-cut transformations, Salvador Dali’s 1950 "Mimicry in Nature," which transforms a surrealistic owl-woman into an Owl Butterfly surrounded by women in butterfly-like fashions. Bizarre but motivating!
