In between escape attempts through layers of the Underworld, the gods press their influence, and Thanatos notices their touch on his relationship.

5 standalone thanzag stories inspired by 5 gods.

1. ares

The usually still air of Elysium is disrupted by their breathing, by Zagreus’s heartbeat pounding, and Thanatos places his hand flat over his heart and feels it pumping blood dutifully through Zagreus’s body, out through the deep cut under his arm, onto the broken and dead and stained grass around them.

2. hermes

“Than.” Zagreus is impatient, he speaks with a quick ease, he shortens names, he has terms of endearment, he says them quickly. “Love,” and “You,” and “Sweet,” and sometimes a decadent, “Beloved,” or “My sweet,” an extra mouthful of syllables, another movement of his lips, but only when he has time.

3. aphrodite

Attention. Decadence that Thanatos has never known before. Zagreus pays close attention, to Thanatos, to his surroundings, to his clothing and his hair. It feels like standing too close to an open flame but he can’t pull away.

4. dionysus

His fingers are in Zagreus’s hair suddenly, hair that smells like smoke, hair that slips between his fingers and sends a shiver through him. He’s warm and his hands are shaking. He can never find the right words to say. Zagreus’s lips keep pressing on his skin and nothing makes any sense at all, except for this.

5. artemis

His thoughts flicker and race in his mind, synapses firing and misfiring, all rational thought extinguished in Zagreus’s too close presence. He thinks this is what a hare must feel in its final moments, a calmness forced about by the utter chaos unfolding in its mind, and when the hunter silences that chaos—with a hit, with a kiss—it’s a relief.

You’re going to make Prongs a responsible parent

'I can't believe you two are having a child,' Sirius said, shaking his head.

They had been sitting by James for about an hour. Before he left them, Peter had related that the Healers believed James should wake within that timeframe. Lily needed to see James awake, needed more evidence than the rising and falling of his chest that he was alive. Time had passed so slowly, and yet, somehow it had passed, but James was still asleep.

'I just... you're so young. You have your whole lives ahead of you. Please don't tell me you planned this?'

'That's none of your business,' Lily scoffed. 'And no, we didn't plan it.'

'Thank God,' Sirius sighed. 'It was bad enough that he wanted to get married,' Sirius grimaced as he said the last word, but Lily wasn't fooled. That day, Sirius had looked as happy as if it had been his own wedding.

'Ey - watch it!' Lily mock scolded him. Sirius just sniggered.

'It's not a death sentence, you know?' Lily added, a little later, James still lying unmoving and unaware that his wife and best friend were there.

'No, it's so much worse,' Sirius said with feeling: 'You're going to make Prongs a responsible parent.'

'I don't know about 'responsible',' Lily sighed, 'but he will be a parent.'

If he recovers, an uninvited voice in her head added nastily. Lily tightened her grip on James' hand ever so slightly, suddenly feeling unwell. James hadn't woken up yet. What if something was wrong?

Sirius seemed to misunderstand her change of mood: 'Lils, I am only joking. The man is a world champion in stepping up to the roles he's given: he was an unbeatable Captain, the best Head Boy in our time (if you ask for my unbiased opinion) and he seems to be doing a good job on the husband front.'

'He needs to stay alive,' Lily said, quietly, 'to be a good husband - to be a parent - any parent.'

Sirius looked momentarily stunned.

Lily looked helplessly down at James, and felt her breath catch in her throat as she supressed a sob.

'Hey, don't go there, Lils. Please... He will be just fine, and then the two of you will become insufferable parents, who only talk about baby stuff, and I will want nothing more to do with either of you.'

One of the funniest aspects of our Tears of the Kingdom playthrough was going to Thunderhead Isle long before we "should have" for the game's intended plot progression--

Person at Stable in Faron: Yeah you've probably noticed that thunderstorm in the sky nearby that never clears up. Wonder what's up there!

Us: We DO wonder what's up there! Perhaps flying into it will do some sort of quest for this stable NPC or something.

Us: *discover the owl-looking head thing and hear a mystery voice similar to how mystery voices have been telling us to find and put crystals in places to activate shrines* Ah! So this is a shrine quest! *fly the head down to the appointed location, expecting a shrine* Well this is weird that it's sending us all the way into the Depths, there aren't usually shrines he--ah. Um. *have reached a decidedly different-looking new area underground*

Mystery Voice: Link, Zelda's foretold chosen swordsman. I am Mineru, and since I have an actual voice now you can assume I am plot-critical. Zelda has said you are very amazing and good, and I trust you implicitly. Please collect four things from nearby locations in true Legend of Zelda task fashion so that I can have a body and aid you in defeating Ganondorf.
