I genuinely hate SO bad that the idea that downloading a custom cursor from the internet will immediately give you a virus persists TO THIS DAY, many many years after virus protection has gotten severely better and people stopped caring about custom cursors (because of the viruses) and as such people who make viruses have moved onto more effective means of infecting people's computers and accounts (emails. it's mostly emails now).

like as someone who makes custom cursors for fun, both for use on tumblr blog themes and also on computers, it sucks that people have stopped giving a shit about customising their computer experience just because 1. windows doesn't ALLOW you to customise your theme much besides wallpaper and different cursors and we've all been fooled into believing that trying to do otherwise is bad and 2. oh noooo viruses. you can literally scan a fucking file before you open it by going to virus total which puts a file through like. 70 different fucking virus programs at once. you are no longer at the mercy of any single file you download from the internet.

i am literally as i type this using a custom cursor pack that is batman themed that i made myself. no issue so far. i've been using it for like over 2 years now. making cursors yourself is fucking EASY. i literally use cursor.cc to upload png files to turn them into .cur files (while also getting to place the hotspot where I want it to go cuz uh…not ever single hotspot is gonna work on the top left depending on the cursor design). if you're REALLY unsure about whether or not downloading a cursor pack is gonna give you a terrible horrible virus, you can just make it yourself with no issue. i no longer wanna see any stupid "haha lol custom cursors will give you viruses" i will explode you with my mind. here is an ENTIRE google drive folder i made myself with all the custom cursors i have made personally and know for a fact there aren't any damn viruses.
