There are times when I can’t help but wonder how much some of these creators actually pull in, what their actual motivations are, and how much of it is our ( the simming community’s ) doing for enabling this trend to begin with, esp since there are plenty of other modding communities that don’t do things like we do, despite offering DLC sized mods. They also wouldn’t be doing this if there wasn’t some kind of a demand for it, and EA wasn’t complicit in creating that demand by choosing to drip feed official content, rarely listen to what players actually want, and then somehow still fall short of delivering it without glaringly obvious flaws that require more mods and fixes. Though I also like to to think it’s a broader problem as well, with how gaming has changed, with how dlc culture has worsened, and how a whole generation was raised on predatory mobile and mobile-esque games, then there’s income inequality hitting everyone hard, in almost every country, one income just doesn’t do it anymore, so is it any surprise that grind culture and scam behavior has just become normalized? Games were once our escape from a lot of this mess, but I’m sad to say it’s no longer out of its reach.

I won’t excuse all these things, esp scamming, bc when it gets bad, it gets bad, and honestly that sucks, bc it’s gotten to the point where it’s just struggling ppl screwing over other struggling ppl, while ppl like the guy who runs EA probably plans to give himself another multi-million dollar holiday bonus, so he can buy another $4,000 sweater to wear to a meeting where he announces another round of lay offs that hurts the development of yet another The Sims 4 DLC, that someone will use to release another set of minimally edited Maxis cc behind a 3 week paywall.

Firstly, late congrats to @ELDENRING and Fromsoft obviously for winning GOTY. Well deserved. Also hyped for armored core, even though I’ve never played all the OGs. But I’ve heard great things only bout them, soooo.

Secondly. I’m probably going to give up on Elden Ring daily challenge for now. I got.. tired of drawing basically the same characters all over again, despite sometimes not wanting too. Ofc it was fun, no doubt, and I appreciate y’all’s support, but for now I got to stop. Obv I’m gonna draw more ER art cus I’m still a big fan, but, yk, I like other media n games too, and sometimes I want to draw different things. But I fr had no time to, whilst drawing only ER 24/7.

And the third, pretty influential reason, they haven’t announced anything yet. I had high hopes for dlc being announced at TGA, but we received AC6. Not blaming fromsoft in any way!!! I’m happy that they’re doing other things too. That’s mostly my own expectations that got broken, and that’s my fault. I think there’s still a plenty of time before official dlc announcement. So, ig, I’ll resume this challenge when we’ll know the exact date! By now, I’ll concentrate on other things and commissions.

They talk about themselves in 2k18 and how some of that worked, how they became a team, how they made the sexy cop gimmick work, the bulletin board, and what tag team in 2k18 (besides themselves) they would compare their team to.

BC: The In This Corner Podcast on CBS is on location today. We’re playing WWE 2k18 with Breezango right here. Fellas, it’s a pleasure to have you here - First thoughts, when you pick up the controllers of this game, what do you think?

Fandango: I’m thinking how good I look in the game. What about you, Breeze?

Breeze: Well yeah, it’s our first-

Fandango: My arms look really jacked this year

Breeze: First year as cops.

Fandango: Sexy cops.

Breeze: First year as The Fashion Police

Fandango: We’re not just cops, we’re sexy cops.

BC: Do they capture y’know the police look? Did it pass your test?

Fandango: Yeah, we actually just sat down and we had a little matchski against each other and I think they really captured the cop outfits really well this year. I was tellin’ Breeze how we look.

BC: What’s the process like for you guys? D’you guys get motion-captured, I guess is the terminology? Do you go through that to get your exact look and shape and move and feel?

Breeze: You know what? Actually, we don’t! Somebody does it for us and they did basically a spot on job, man. Like, it’s like watching yourself in there; it’s really cool to see.

Fandango: Actually when I was in developmental probaly seven or eight years ago, we would actually do the motion capture for the video game. So there’s actually crew guys out in probably I think LA that will put on the suits with the balls on ‘em and kind of mimic our entrances and our mannerisms.

Breeze: They aced it, man.

Fandango: And like Breeze was saying, these guys are really good; they got our entrance down perfect. We were just watching our entrance as the sexy cops, the fashion police, and they nailed it dead on. So, good job, guys in mo-cap out there.

Breeze: Yeah, very good

BC: I want to file this gimmick of the sexy cops [Breeze giggles] under something that we didn’t know whether it would work. I say “we” meaning the fans, the critics, the journalists-

Fandango: The universe

BC: And holy crap you guys did, don’t want to puff your pillow but you know that-

So really, when y’know any idea or any character or anybody, any time you get an opportunity it’s a 50-50 chance whether it works or whether it doesn’t and it’s kind of on you in the end. Y’know it’s kind of on you who’s out there in front of the world every week and y’know proving whether you put everything you had into it or whether you just go “Y’know what, I wanna try something else.” And me and Dango just kind of said “Hey, this can work, let’s make it work”

Fandango: Anything that’s worth doing is worth doing right, right Breeze?

Breeze: Exactly!

BC: But when was the moment you guys knew you had something? That you had it?

Fandango: Well you know Breeze wasn’t really doing anything at the time, I wasn’t on TV, so you take two guys who’re kind of just sitting on the bench, we came up with the idea and we kind of knew that we had to embrace it ‘cause if the audience, the WWE Universe, if they see that you’re not embracing it and you’re not really into it, they’re going to see through it and they’re not going to get with it. I think we really embraced it and had fun with it. I think when they see we’re having fun, they’re having fun. Y’know what I’m sayin’?

Breeze: That’s the thing too especially Smackdown Live, and the whole WWE in general, has such a detailed roster that there’s only so many minutes on per week and if you’re doing something that you don’t believe in, like Dango said, nobody’s going to believe in it, and somebody else is talented enough and is going to be able to fill that spot for you so you kind of have to prove your worth.

BC: ‘Cause I’ve kind of been doing the #freetylerbreeze hashtag for a year now and sayin’ y’know “this guy can work” “this guy can do great things” and you might have indirectly found something that’s great and I give you guys a lot of credit for that

Breeze: We totally did. Y’know we were just kind of paired together as two guys who weren’t doing anything and we just kind of stumbled upon something that’s really fun for us and really fun for the audience and y’know hopefully everybody keeps up with it.

BC: When you picked up 2k18 what one of the cool parts is that I can play as Tyler Breeze and Fandango against each other which teases the idea that eventually all good things come to an end and you guys can-

Fandango [groaning]: Hey, hey

BC: The best part of your gimmick, which I hope they capture on 2k18, I want to know if you’re going to have the room with the bulletin board. Y’know this week’s joke on Tony Chimel like, how much of an input do you have?

Breeze: This week or every week?

Fandango: I think Chimel’s off the board though!

Breeze: He’s finally- We booted him!

BC: Alright, lemme get, as we close here, Here in 2k18 you can play fantasy, like you can load in 1988 Sting, the surfer Sting, my favourite. If you guys play this game together, I just want you to do that: you guys are going to pick a tag team that might remind yourself of you guys from history, or you could go up against. BC: Well this has been maybe the highlight of my week talking here to Breezango at 2k18. To close guys, how does it get any better than this? And IT in this case, not taking Chris Jericho’s gimmick, “it” is this creative run that you guys have been on. How do you get even better - push the chains even further from this?

Breeze: I mean me and Dango have been about it. We’re very busy with all of our cases need closing. So much stuff to do, but I think we can probably squeeze some Smackdown Live Tag Team Titles into our busy schedule

Fandango: Yeah, I dunno man.

Breeze: You don’t know?

Fandango: Nah, just kidding [laughter drowns out some stuff]

BC: By the way, we had Roman on this podcast last week, he gave you credit in FCW for firming up his backbone by saying “If you can’t go out there in tight pants and not feel embarrassed then maybe this business isn’t for you” I’m paraphrasing [F: Yeah!] but he gives you that credit [F: Yeah!] for making him how tough he is today

I tried drawing my characters in gear from Breath of the Wild, and tried to get a bit creative for some of them.

Ling’s in Rito coldwear since she seems like a Snow fox to me. And they specialise with Bows, Ling’s choice weapon.

Roku’s an Oni so she’s more than suitable for the Death Mountain climate, I gave her some Goron Armour plating and the Stone Smasher.

Vix could have easily just been in gerudo wear but I felt like it was a boring/obvious direction so I put her in custom Lizalfos armour instead.

Mascha was difficult to fit into the Breath of the Wild’s world- especially with a lack of Zombies in the game, like redeads. Ultimately Code reccomended the Beserker armor and I realised it was perfect- since none of the other characters were representing the Faron Woods/jungle area and Mascha being half-plant fit perfectly. +She likes using big weapons.

Flint’s just wearing a version of the soldier’s armour that I tried to style in the themes of Lorule from the 3DS Zelda instead of the default Hyrule (just cus I thought it’d be fun.) 

After I made this one I was really hoping that the botw DLC announced at E3 was going to be a second quest in an alternate Hyrule and even hoped it would be a dark world/Lorule Quest... but at the end of it I realised my hopes were a bit unrealistic... Still...

So with the announcement of more DLC fighters for Smash, I wanted to bring back an old “hopefuls” post of mine.

I can’t find it.

So I’m making another and tagging it properly this time. Maybe. Probably. Hopefully.

1A) Dante, Devil May Cry

An obvious choice from me, but one of my biggest hopes. If I had my choice, he would be his DMC5 appearance by default, but would have costumes for DMC1, 3, and 4, each with one recolor like Hero (such as a Vergil recolor for the DMC3 costume, Nero for DMC4, etc.). Alternatively he could also only have DMC5 recolors, but would have Devil Sword Dante rather than rebellion.

The one problem is PSASBR2 is rumored to be in development, which if true may block Dante from getting in Smash due to PSASBR being a rival game.

If so...

1B) Nero, Devil May Cry

Costume wise I would love if he had 4 DMC4 colors and 4 DMC5 colors, but whatever works for a moveset. Also I would love to see DT be a game mechanic for him, since we already have a character with an “extra attack with each input” mechanic (Joker w/ Arsene), and we have several characters that rely on resource management (Inkling, Hero, Joker, etc.).

2) Archer EMIYA, Fate/Stay Night

I know some people will go “But Sakurai said characters from games only!”, to which I say the original Fate/Stay Night was a visual novel, which depending on who you talk to, is a type of game! But anyway, I think he would be able to put a nice twist on the anime sword fighter archetype in smash with his dual blades by default style coupled with the ability to project other blades, plus his projection could allow him to send out blades as projectiles, which would be kinda cool.

Also Unlimited Blade Works would be a badass final smash and you know it.

And if a visual novel doesn’t cut it for a game I’m sure one of the servants initially from one of the more traditional Fate games would work, like Tamamo No Mae, or Nero Claudius, or Charlemagne, or Cu Alter, or Edison, or Emiya Alter, or

3) Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot

WOAH 

(Honestly I think other people have said enough about him that I have no clue what I could add).

4) Doom Slayer, DOOM

Same as Crash, I have no clue what I would add that other people haven’t already. I just would like both Doom Slayer and Doom Guy costumes.

5) Lindow Amamiya, GOD EATER

First off: God Eater music in Smash would be amazing. Second: While I did of other characters that would work for Smash, such as God Eater 3′s Hugo, I felt Lindow was one of the more memorable characters in the series, either him or Soma Von Schicksal, I prefer Lindow though. With costumes based off God Eater and God Eater 2, and his giant Chainsaw sword god arc, I think he would be quite the fun addition to the roster.

Plus God Eater is Bandai Namco and considering they helped with Smash 4 and I believe also ultimate, it doesn’t seem like Nintendo would have to do much to get a God Eater rep.

6) Metal Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog

I know he probably won’t get in as he is a spirit and would probably be forced into being a Sonic echo (even though honestly there’s enough Metal Sonic alone does that could warrant him being his own fighter), but one can dream, right? If nothing else, I would love for him to be put up as either a Brawler or Gunner costume, as he is one of my favorite characters in fiction.

NieR: Automata Review (SPOILER FREE! NO SPOILERS HERE!)

Score: Must-Play, anyone who loves videogames should play this as soon as possible.

Nier Automata is Yoko Taro’s first game to ever get both critical and commercial success which he has earned it rightfully. For why I believe Automata is a masterpiece is because of the ending. As everything in the game builds up to one gameplay moment. And that gameplay moment is an emotional climax all because of a well crafted journey. Yes the game’s story is told through cutscenes, dialogue, music, etc, but when the climax of the story is GAMEPLAY it just reminds me why we play videogames in the first place.

This is a PlatinumGames game, so of course the gameplay is good. When it originally announced that Yoko Taro would be helming a Nier sequel with PlatinumGames it was an instant "hype" moment because the original Nier had quite simple gameplay. Pitting PlatinumGames expertise with fluid combo oriented hack n slashes with Yoko Taro's crazy storytelling and it was a match made in GAMERRRRRR Heaven. But how did they deliver?

Well they did deliver, in the context of this game. This is an RPG, so the game is story based. Thus, PlatinumGames decided to make this the most simple out of their hack n slash titles. Basically you can spam dodge and attack buttons and mostly cruise through the main story IF you really want to. But the combo system does actually have a little depth to it, and you can pull of some fun wacky stuff once you know some tricks.

Even a recurring simple minigame that will happen a lot throughout a playthrough was fine by me. Some people were bother by it, but it's an easy enough mini game that does have a major story payoff in the end so it's all worth it.

And to cap it off, the way that abilities and special attacks are unlocked is pretty unique. Effectively you’re doing ability item management, which has some limitations but it's a fun way to make it thematic with robots.

Which I think is why the gameplay is so good regardless of its weak points is because it was all made within the theme of androids. I'm not going to mention every cute detail but I will finish off talking about gameplay with one controversial design choice: no autosaves. Instead you manually have to save at save stations. Maybe it's because I have played all the From Software Soul's games but it didn't annoy me. Really the save points are frequent in Automata that it doesn't effect it that much. And just like in Souls games, the save points have a thematic purpose of "saving your data" to the in-universe network. Basically the manual save is there as a meta-element. And again there's many other examples of this but this is Yoko Taro's strong suits, metaphorical gameplay.

Nier References:

Nier Automata is part of a strange series that spans two different games. In fact, here's the series order:

Drakengard 3 -> Drakengard 1 -> Nier Gestalt / Nier Replicant -> Nier Automata.

Yeah, that's pretty wild. So it's understandable that you may be worried about going into Nier Automata without a clue of what's going on due to ~Lore~ reasons. "Do I really need to watch a Let's Play on Youtube of some niche game, or worse LPs of all the niche games??" Worry not, as you absolutely don't need to... well right away atleast.

To break it down, no you don't need to play the Drakengard as all the references to it are just cute references. 

Yes there are characters and side quests that are deeply connected to OG Nier, but they have no bearing on the main story being told. They are supplementary knowledge that helps both boost the main story and help provide additional emotional moments IF you have played Nier. But again, understanding what happens with the main characters is all self-contained within this game.

Now do I recommend playing OG Nier? Yes, in fact I believe that is another Must-Play game, but I specifically recommend PLAYING it. Watching a let's play on youtube will not do it justice.

To summarize, if you play Nier Automata without playing OG Nier you will be perfectly fine. You will be confused at first, but that is intentional and all will be revealed by end of the story. But, once you beat this game, you will probably get the urge to play the first game and THAT'S when you play it. Don't spoil the first Nier's experience, ya can wait it out.

Art Direction:

From the characters, to enemies, and locations the vibe is clearly of apocalypse, but there is almost a level of cuteness to it all strangely enough.

Our android protagonists, and the group they’re in called Yorha, are decked out in futuristic style gothic lolita fashion. The enemies almost look like the smartphone brand Android's mascot. With a round head, an oval body, dainty arms/legs, and tiny eyes they look quite innocent.

While there's the obvious ruined city, abandoned factory, and barren desert locations for a "post-apocalypse distant future" setting there's actually some surprise appearances. To not give too much away, two standout areas would be a 2001 A Space Odyssey rotating spacestation and a cheery amusement park.

All in all, the art direction is pretty nice. But, I need to address the elephant in the room. The 2B "controversy", specifically her butt.

Alright some context needs to be given to understand this stupidity, so bear with me. This timeline will explain it all, for the Western World specifically:

NieR Gestalt releases to little fanfare. It doesn't have much critical or commercial success, but it does get a cult following.

NieR Automata gets announced at E3 to little fanfare. The diehard fans are hyped beyond belief, but everyone else doesn't care. Though everyone is amused by Yoko Taro's antics with the emil mask.

A puzzle platformer on Steam gets greenlight and released by the name of Haydee. The title is the name of the games TITular protagonist, a robot that for some reason has huge breasts and butt. It gains a major following, spawning lots of pornography being made of this character.

NieR Automata's free demo releases on PSN. Because of the people going off of (and getting off on) the previous robot girl, people all of a sudden are extremely horny towards 2B (even though they didn't care about her for 2 years up until this point) A lot of pornography is created of 2B, most notable is a screenshot edit that starts the "controversy". An upskirt screenshot of 2B climbing a ladder is edited so that she has an asshole visible. People thought it was a real screenshot and went even more ballistic. Even after confirmed fake, people stayed horny for her.

NieR Automata releases. This time, because everyone regardless if they were horny or not, has seen the protagonist 2B all over the internet. Since everyone is hyped over 2B (and not because of the cult-classic series), NieR Automata has both critical and commercial success.

Alright, now that you are caught up, I can confirm that.... yes, 2B is cute. Yes, she has a butt. But, there's barely any fanservice of her in the game. If you’re not going up a ladder, you basically have to glitch the camera to be able to see under her skirt, and even then she pushes your camera controls away. If you detonate as her you will see her in the leotard but uhh Wonder Woman shows more skin than 2B so I honestly have no idea why some people are so pissed off at her. Some people even refuse to play the game cus of her which is really silly.....

I'm going to leave off on that for now. I will come back to that later, but let's finally get to The Bad.

The Bad:

Unoptimized PC Port:

You’re going to need a graphics card leading on the high end side if you want to see the pretty graphics.

Also, FAR mod is required if you want optimization. You’re going to need to look that up before playing.

Now I do put this in the bad category, and many people want to boycott PlatinumGames and Nier Automata for this unoptimized port, but that's going too FAR (get it). I'm going to give the context as to why this happened:

While I didn't play the PS4 version, I have heard reports of poor framerates at certain points. This leads to the revelation... this game was really only made optimized for PS4 Pro. Which I think it still lags there but not too much.

Anyways, so Square Enix decides that since Nier Automata is part of a niche franchise they might as well put it on Steam to get a quick extra bucks. So they have a quick port job happen by who knows what and boom it's on Steam.

So basically, the major problem here is Square Enix. It almost seems like they don't respect the game. No amount of "boycotting" by random people on Steam of a masterpiece game will make the company retract their thought process. SE has their FFXIV money printer, there is no incentive for them to fix a niche game. It's sad but true. And in fact, not buying the game proves their point that only FFXIV will make them money.

Now I don't condone a bad port job, this is why it's in the bad but.... the game is still perfectly playable even if you put all the grafix as low as possible, which is what I did. The only times the game crashed was when I tried to max out the graphics and resolution beyond what my PC could handle and made my GPU be at 100% usage for too long.

Little Patch Support:

This goes off of the other point. There's only been a couple of stealth patches for the DLC release, but nothing addressing the optimization. Again, it's sad that Square Enix isn't treating the game with the respect it has earned.

The Best

Music:

As the old saying goes, film is 70% audio and 30% visual. Of course that is an exaggeration, but it's trying to get across how important a soundtrack can be to making a movie iconic.

Now why am I talking about all that? Well. OG Nier had such a beautiful OST that it could be the sole reason why it got such a cult following.

Automata is no different, the music here is simply breathtaking. But listening to the OST alone doesn't do it justice, as the music is contextualized within the game perfectly. Every area has such a distinct song that I can FEEL that area when I hear the song out of the game. And without saying spoilers, the credits song makes me FEEL the ending all over again. Hell, even when I heard a song from the first Nier in this game I almost cried for real.

The music just compliments the moments within the game so well, that the music MAKES the game. And that playing the game makes the music more emotional. If you love music in games, or music in general, you gotta play Nier Automata.

Message/Themes:

As you probably know already, Yoko Taro is an odd fellow. You can lump him with other japanese videogame auteur directors ala Kojima and Kamiya. But what makes Yoko Taro different from Kojima's wacky metaphors is his consistency.

Right from Drakengard 1 Yoko-san established his auteur theme: Violence in Videogames. He explains that for a videogame protagonist to slaughter thousands of people, he has to be a crazy psychopath. The enemies in that game beg and plead to not kill. But, after 9/11 his view changed. So, in the first Nier he went with a different concept. That someone can discriminately kill without remorse if they believe their cause is Righteous. I can't say how this is achieved as spoiler, but you get the picture. Automata continues the violence theme off of the Nier idea.

There's other themes, but that's the main one.

The Ending:

The True ending is quite possibly why I think the game is a masterpiece. The entire game is building up to this climax.

Every sidequest, all the confusion is finally explained (albiet maybe too quickly). But that's just one of many twists. In which the final sequence has so many false finishes that I truly believed where the ending that the final moment caught me off guard. This last finale is what justifies getting through the entire game, regardless if you don't like hack n slash games. The trick done too is so simple that it being the emotional climax in my opinion proves it’s a masterpiece.

Meaningful Sidequests:

When going through the game, understanding what is going on is confusing. Hell even the prologue is confusing. This is intentional, because information is being kept from you. While The Truth is only revealed at the end, nearly all side-quests foreshadow the ending.

The side-quests are special in that each one has some type of twist to it. They all seem like some ordinary RPG fetch quest, but there's always a twist. Sometimes it's happy, sometimes it's sad, but they can catch you off guard.

But as I was saying, the twists of these side-quests don't stop there, as once you beat the game and know The Truth you will have a epiphany if you think back to side quests you have done. They give hints to the Truth, sometimes the events in the side-quests mirror what was revealed. It's quite awesome how well this was put together.

This is all most likely cus Yoko Taro creates stories backwards, starting with the ending and going to the start. And also why the ending is so good.

I've seen some people say they think the "twist" of the game is "practicable"... but considering the entire game is hinting at it, hiding in plain sight, I would say no... foreshadowing isn't practicability, it's good storytelling plain and simple.

2B:

I already talked about the controversy with 2B being cute and having a butt, but(t) to wind down I want to address something as my final point. The thing is I don't know if Yoko Taro is a puppet master genius, or how intentional was this but.... people's obsessive hype over 2B has a payoff as a moment within the game.

To give a little context, the lady from the previous Nier, Kaine was extremely scantily clad with purpose. It being to challenge body norms, and people fell hook line in sinker. People said she was way too sexy and only eye candy, and even barring the amazing character arc she has, there is a part of her body that's really only hinted at within the game. I won't spoil it, so Let me go back to 2B.

Now 2B is cute, and everyone loves how 2B looks or wanting to be knee-jerk contrarian cus of the annoying horny people. Here's the thing, this is addressed in the game. This obsessive of 2B is reflected back at the player in one moment. I have no idea if Yoko Taro knew there would be this fervor over the games protagonist but mannnnn,

I think we all got played, hook line and sinker. Ya got us good Yoko Taro.

I played on PC, bought on Steam. FAR mod used as well. I had a pretty low/midrange spec going in, so i had to play everything on low at 900p, also using FAR mod to turn off lighting effects. Still, I had framerate drops at certain areas. Game crashed if I played on higher settings, but keeping it on low stopped that.

Nissan announces Qashqai for the Canadian market

Way back in the middle 2000’s, while I was still a Nissan Service Manager, we began hearing reports that a small utility vehicle called the Qashqai, which was sold in other markets, would make its way to Canada to slot under the rugged Xterra model size wise.

That model never appeared and we received a model called the X-Trail instead. From what I heard, they were similar vehicles, but we never got to compare them side by side.

Fast forward to 2017 and Nissan Canada announced this morning that Qashqai is finally coming to this country. With the company’s popular Rogue model moving up in size in its most recent version, the Qashqai will slot in beneath that model.

The 2017 Nissan Qashqai stands as a stylish, nimble, fun-to-drive and affordable sub-compact SUV offering numerous advanced safety and security features

“The combination of the new Qashqai and the popular redesigned 2017 Rogue will appeal to a broad audience and offers a wide spectrum of features and price points for SUV buyers,” said Bert Brooks, senior manager, Product Planning, Nissan Canada Inc. “While we expect Rogue to continue to appeal to owners with young families, Qashqai fills a need for singles and couples who want more space and versatility than the average sedan for everyday urban use and social activities.”

The Qashqai has a 58mm (2.3-inch) shorter wheelbase and a 307mm (12.1-inch) shorter overall length than Rogue, helping make it more maneuverable in city traffic and an ideal size for tight city parking spaces. Other helpful city adventure features range from up to 1,730L (61.1 cubic feet) of cargo space (2nd row seat folded) and available innovative Divide-N-Hide® Cargo System to the Around View® Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD)4.

“From Qashqai to Rogue, Murano, Pathfinder and all the way up to the full-size eight-passenger Armada, Nissan has the perfect SUV for any buyer,” said Brooks. “Qashqai holds its own with all of its portfolio mates, just as expected of any vehicle that wears the Nissan badge.”

Sporty Exterior, Premium Looking Interior The Qashqai exterior starts with an “emotional geometry” exterior design, presenting a strong contrast between dynamic movements of volume and geometric and sharp edges and details. The sleek, compact body projects powerful fender volume and a wheel-oriented stance, along with agile and robust lower body sides, giving Qashqai a powerful presence.

The front is highlighted by a dynamic, sporty front grille and sophisticated headlight design with LED signature Daytime Running Lights, halogen headlights with auto off function, and available fog lights. Also available are LED low-beam headlights with auto on/off function and High Beam Assist (HBA).

The Qashqai exterior also features a large rear opening and a wide rear body appearance – along with sleek boomerang-shaped taillights and rear spoiler. Other exterior details include body-colour front and rear bumpers, black wheel arches and roof molding, body-colour outside mirrors with integrated turn signals and heated outside mirrors. Also offered is a power sliding moonroof with sliding shade and roof rails. Qashqai has a coefficient of drag of 0.33.

The 2017 Qashqai is available in 10 available exterior colours – led by the bold Monarch Orange and Nitro Lime. Other colours are Mocha Almond, Magnetic Black, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Palatial Ruby, Pearl White, Glacier White and Caspian Blue

Inside, the 5-passenger Qashqai interior is designed to keep up with owners’ active lifestyles. It has the commanding ride height of a compact SUV combined with a driver-oriented cockpit that provides a sporty, fun-to-drive feel.

Qashqai incorporates Nissan’s “gliding wing” interior design, providing spatial symmetry with a sense of togetherness – combining a wide-open feeling with areas for personal space. Seating includes a standard 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, 60/40 split fold-down rear seat with available rear seat center armrest, heated front seats and available rear seat heating/cooling center console vents. Also available are a 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, leather-appointed seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and heated steering wheel. Leather-appointed seating is standard on the SL grade.

Behind the 2nd row seat is up to 648L (22.9 cu. ft.) of cargo space (up to 1,730L or 61.1 cu. ft. with the 2nd row seat folded down), accessible through the wide rear door. Like Rogue, the new Qashqai also offers the innovative Divide-N-Hide® Cargo System (SV and SL grades). Included as standard on all grades are a cargo area cover and six luggage hooks (four floor, two side).

The instrument panel features Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges and 5.0-inch center meter colour display with Advanced Driver Assist™ Display. The front center console includes an integral armrest and storage comparTMent, along with a 12-volt power outlet. Qashqai SV and SL grades include Nissan Intelligent KeyTM with Push Button Start.

Standard interior features include: 4-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with auxiliary audio input jack, USB connection port for iPod® interface and other compatible devices, Siri® Eyes Free6, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, RearView Monitor, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant5 (compatible smartphone required) and RearView Monitor. Also available is SiriusXM® Satellite Radio (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately), dual-zone automatic air conditioning. The available Remote Engine Start (RES) system7 provides flexibility to start the Qashqai remotely using the keyless entry fob.

The 2017 Qashqai also has a number of available connected technology and smartphone integration features, including NissanConnectSM with Navigation, Mobile Apps and Services. It offers a 7.0-inch colour touch-screen display, Nissan Voice Recognition for navigation and audio, SiriusXM® Traffic and SiriusXM® Travel Link™ (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately). NissanConnect Services powered by SiriusXM® (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately) is available on Qashqai SL model. Also available is Around View® Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD)4.

Two interior colours are offered: Charcoal and Light Grey, along with available Gun Metal or Piano Black finishers.

2.0-litre Engine, 4-Wheel Independent Suspension, Advanced Safety Technology The Qashqai offers balanced dynamic performance – combining a responsive, efficient 2.0-litre engine with nimble handling and cornering. Qashqai utilizes the same CMF (Common Module Family) platform as Rogue, and both vehicles are available in a choice of front-wheel drive or an available intuitive All-Wheel Drive system.

Every 2017 Qashqai comes equipped with a standard 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder rated at 141 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 147 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm. The engine features Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG™) system, Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control) on both intake and exhaust, DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coated valve lifters, TCV (Tumble Control Valve) and an 11.2:1 compression ratio. The engine is matched with a 6-speed manual transmission or an available Xtronic transmission with standard Sport Mode Shifter and Eco Mode switch.

The nimble handling is the result of the 104.2-inch wheelbase and 4-wheel independent suspension – a front independent-strut suspension with stabilizer bar and twin-tube shock absorbers and multi-link independent rear suspension with twin-tube shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. Responsive steering is provided by an Electric Power-assisted Steering (EPS) with Sport mode. 4-wheel vented disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist are also standard.

A selection of wheels and tires are offered, depending on grade level. Qashqai S models are equipped with 16-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers and 215/65R16 all-season tires; Qashqai SV features 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 215/60R17 all-season tires; and Qashqai SL comes with 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/45R19 all-season tires. Every Qashqai also offers a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with position monitoring and Nissan’s innovative Easy Fill Tire Alert.

Hill Start Assist (HSA) is also standard, along with a suite of confidence-inspiring dynamic technologies, with Active Trace Control, Active Engine Braking and Active Ride Control. 

“While many competitors in the compact SUV segment choose a rear torsion beam suspension, Qashqai offers an independent rear multi-link design to provide that extra sense of dynamic performance,” said Brooks.  “We believe that buyers coming into this segment, usually as first time SUV owners, still want to enjoy driving excitement and feel a connection to the road. The new Qashqai delivers.”

Qashqai also offers an extensive list of advanced Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield technologies. The list includes available radar-based Blind Spot Warning (BSW)8 and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) 3, Forward Emergency Braking (FEB)1, and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)9. Also available are Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)2 and Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection1.

In addition, the list of standard safety and security features includes the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors; front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags with rollover sensor for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection; 3-point front and rear seatbelts, front seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors; LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren); and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS).

Qashqai SL models also include seatback pocket on driver’s seat, Around View® Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD)4, 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/45R19 all-season tires and silver finished roof racks.
