Gonna speak out as a "fantasy worldbuilding plate tectonics and cell biology" type author and say all of that is fun and cool for you personally as the creator of your universe and its well and good (spectacular even) if you find/have readers who are interested in that level of worldbuilding

But from a publishing and professional perspective that is a WILDLY unreasonable standard to hold fantasy/sci-fi authors to and even more ridiculous in other genres. Not every author is concerned with soil ecology for the plant crops that make textile dyes. I think its almost a literary equivalent of CinemaSins or whatever to point out scientific inaccuracies in worldbuilding because if the author didn't care to or didn't have the resources to develop that part of their world then the book is probably about something else. The nice thing about this recent trend in overly specific worldbuilding is that if you want that type of fiction then people are writing it for you. (Hell, Im writing it) But i think its almost become a way for readers to bully and feel superior when they pick apart the astronomy/biology/geology of a book series or video game rather than engaging with the story the author is actually trying to tell

Speaking of the thrift store, I also found these velvet slippers recently, and I wasn't even looking at the footwear. Someone had left them on the shelf with the baskets & wooden home decor things, and they were sparkly and a pretty colour and fit me perfectly.

They're in almost new condition. It looks like they've been worn exactly once, and I think it's because the toe of the left insole had come un-glued and was all wrinkled up, but I stuck a butter knife up there and spread some Shoe Goo under it and fixed it in about a minute.

I was surprised to learn they're made and sold as women's shoes, because they look very much like men's slippers to me, but I guess my idea of normal men's fashion is rather skewed. This specific pair is men's slippers now, at least, since I bought it and will wear them as house slippers!

kind of disappointed that ouji & ega fashion trousers aren't anywhere near as elaborate as the skirts and dresses

they could have beautiful lace trim, they could lace up or have decoration up the side seams, jacquard and beautiful illustrations could be on the bottom portion of the leg opening/cuff, the pockets could have patterns on them, if you do high-waisted looks the waist portion could be elaborate with lace, buttons, illustrations, etc,

god i wish i could afford more fabrics. ouji and ega trousers could be SO much cooler.

This probably seems like a minor detail, but I really appreciate that they had Frances McDormand, NOT Derek Jacobi, deliver the monologue to Job. Making it totally unambiguous that God is doing this, that it’s not some underling gone rogue.

As An Ex-Evangelical™️, one of the most common, most annoying ideas I run into re: Christianity is “oh Christianity is such a good philosophy! 😊 People are just interpreting it wrong! 😊 They’re corrupting Jesus’ true teachings! 😊”

To borrow a concept from UI design, if a lot of your users are “doing it wrong”, it’s actually the design that’s wrong (see also: the Purpose Of a System Is What It Does).

Yes, you’ve written the word “push” on the door, but you gave it a vertical handle — something that’s more naturally shaped for a pulling hand than a pushing hip. Of course people will grab the handle and pull. Yes, you’ve carefully marked safe crosswalks, but they’re so far apart that they’d double the walking distance. Of course people will take their chances with jaywalking, and sometimes get hit.

Yes, you’ve told people to be generous, but you’ve also told them “the poor you will always have”. Of course they’ll assume that anti-poverty legislation will fail, and vote against it. Yes, you’ve told people to be stewards of the earth, but you’ve also told them that God will end the world. Of course they’ll be skeptical of human-caused climate change. Yes, you’ve told people to love their neighbors, but you’ve also told them that anyone who doesn’t repent gets tortured forever. Of course they’re going to try to turn as many people away from hell as possible, even if that requires “tough love” in the here and now.

So for Good Omens to say, no, God is 100% involved in the story of Job, this has nothing to do with the Metatron. I love it. This isn’t a case of “things would be so much better if only people didn’t corrupt God’s true intentions! 😊”

After a year and a half, it's finally done! A vintage pattern off Etsy, I was just looking for something to cover prying eyes but still let in enough light for my poor Christmas cactus. It's the smallest thread I've ever crocheted with and now that I'm back to testing a pattern on size 10, I kinda wanna go back to smaller lol. Maybe I'll find another pattern for like, size 30 thread or something. I did get a doily pattern book recently...
