NaPoWriMo 2024: Day 10 - Cabinet Member Loses Trousers
Our resource for the day is the YouTube channel of Canada’s Griffin Poetry Prize, where you’ll find videos of past prize nominees as well as discussions of the art of translation. And now for our optional prompt! Ezra Pound famously said that “poetry is news that stays news.” While we don’t know about that, the news can have a certain poetry to it. Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a…

Why the COVID-19 Inquiry May Be a Waste of Time.
Introduction:
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a global crisis of unprecedented proportions, impacting countless lives and economies worldwide. In the wake of such a catastrophe, it is only natural that people seek answers and accountability. This has led to the establishment of various inquiries and investigations aimed at understanding what went wrong and preventing similar crises in the future. While the desire for transparency and accountability is essential, it's worth considering whether the ongoing COVID-19 inquiry might be a potential waste of time.
Hindsight Bias:
Hindsight bias is a cognitive phenomenon where people believe, after the fact, that the outcomes of a particular event were entirely predictable. With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to criticize the decisions and actions of individuals and governments during the pandemic. However, at the time, decision-makers faced unprecedented challenges, incomplete information, and rapidly evolving circumstances. The COVID-19 inquiry may unfairly judge these decisions with the advantage of hindsight.
Distracting from Current Issues:
The ongoing COVID-19 inquiry can divert valuable resources, time, and attention away from addressing the immediate challenges and needs of the pandemic. The world is still grappling with the virus, with new variants emerging, vaccination campaigns underway, and healthcare systems stretched. Focusing on past actions instead of the present could hinder ongoing efforts to mitigate the virus's impact.
The Blame Game:
Inquiries often become platforms for finger-pointing and blame-shifting. While accountability is essential, the COVID-19 inquiry runs the risk of turning into a political battleground where different parties or nations attempt to deflect blame onto one another. This can hinder international cooperation, which is vital for effectively combating a global health crisis.
Complex and Multifaceted Causes:
The COVID-19 pandemic is the result of a complex interplay of factors, including scientific, political, economic, and cultural elements. It is challenging to distill these complex causes into a single, linear narrative. An inquiry may oversimplify these factors or struggle to uncover the full truth, leading to incomplete or biased conclusions.
Resource Allocation:
Conducting an inquiry is a resource-intensive process, requiring significant time, manpower, and financial resources. These resources could be better used for immediate pandemic response efforts, healthcare infrastructure improvements, or further scientific research into the virus and its variants.
Potential for Political Manipulation:
Inquiries are not immune to political influence. They can be used as tools by governments and political parties to further their agendas, whether by targeting opposition figures or diverting public attention from other issues. This can undermine the integrity of the investigation and its outcomes.
Conclusion:
While accountability and transparency are crucial aspects of governance, it's important to consider whether the ongoing COVID-19 inquiry might be a potentially fruitless endeavor. Rather than dwelling on the past, efforts may be better directed towards addressing the current challenges, fortifying healthcare systems, and promoting international cooperation in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. Ultimately, whether the inquiry proves to be a valuable exercise or a waste of time will depend on its execution and the practical outcomes it generates.

I scroll through the posts Tumblr shows me when I search "need advice," and I feel the pressure of choosing a first question to answer. How to handle a secret crush? The relationship between parents and children? Managing professional and personal ambitions?
And then I find this question. And, in a way, it's so lovely in its vague generality. Arwen, I don't know you. I haven't read any of your other posts. But I think what you're asking is, in a way, something we've all asked ourselves at one time or another.
As we grow older, we become disillusioned. We realize that not everything is the way that it should be. The world we have been born into has already been ruined for us.
Climate change is a serious issue. But without equating it to other generations' problems, let me remind you that other people have been in similar emotional places. During the Cold War, it seemed very likely that the earth would be completely destroyed by nuclear weapons. Before the Civil Rights movement, conditions of everyday life were unjust and humiliating for people of color in America. People who lived during those eras also asked themselves the essence of what you are asking: If I've been dealt an unfair hand, why should I continue to play a game that I know I'm going to lose?
Arwen, I'm not going to tell you to play the game because it's the only game there is. Life--healing, living, following dreams--shouldn't be a default reaction, something we do because we don't have a better choice. Instead I'm going to remind you that part of the reason why humanity is still here is because of people who recognized that the world had been screwed up for them and fought tooth and nail to fix it.
Part of good mental health is recognizing things that we have the power to change and making an effort to change them, whether or not the situation was our doing. Obviously, I'm not telling you to fix climate change all by yourself. But rather than looking at that problem (or any problem) as an foregone conclusion, I encourage you to recognize the efforts of those who are working against it. Despair sometimes causes us to give up, but the reverse is also true: Giving up causes us to despair.
I cannot tell you if or how climate change will be "solved," but I can tell you that we become better people by working to mitigate the problems we were born into. I'm trying to leave the world better than I found it--and I'm grateful to live in a world where that's a possibility, rather than a world that doesn't need me.
Sincerely,
Marion Fontaine
So I came across this article and the title alone distressed me immensely
Tumblr media
I feel heartbroken that this even exists. I can’t help but feel an impending sense of despair. If the world is going to become uninhabitable relatively soon, then what’s the point of me healing and living my life and following my dreams at all?

2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. ✝

Multi-color Lights Tee
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes we hear people say celebrate our differences, but we should be celebrating our similarities instead. Don't get me wrong, differences are good. They make us unique and beautiful but they also cause rifts among us and make those gaps more apparent and even wider than before. So, we should be focusing on things that we all have in common rather than things that make us different to bring us all back together again. If we give it a try, we definitely will find at least one or two things (and it doesn't matter if it's big or small, specific or general). Just celebrate them but at the same time, respect those differences that we all will definitely have. These tees come in many colors representing some of those differences that we have. Choose the color that best represents you or you want to represent. Men(deep royal), women (pink), LGBTQ (purple), white(light steel), black (orange), Latino/Hispanic (lime), Christian (denim blue), Muslim (deep forest), Jews (smoke gray), conservative (deep red), liberal (navy) and (gold) for other races, religions etc. Because I believe that these are the ones that needed the most to unite in our country right now (but if you are from other countries, you can change them those representations if you want). Set a date and wear your color that day. Soon people will see that our differences and similarities are like one big multi-color Christmas light. Those different-color bulbs making the ornament look beautiful but it's the same-colored wire that goes unnoticed behind is the one that is connecting and powering the whole thing. So what we really need now is to strengthen that wire, strengthen our similarities. Because lately, there are way too many darknesses going around in the world because of those differences and it's time to put them aside and be connect with one another to help our community, nation or even the world. Because one thing that is good about these darknesses is that only during these times, lights will come out everywhere and they will shine so brightly, those darknesses will quickly disappear. These lights, people from all walks of life, strangers to one another and some are even on the opposite sides will put aside their differences and come together as one giant superhero to save the day or one long multicolor Christmas lights to brighten the world. It has happened before and it will happen again. And every time it happens, it's will be so beautiful to look at and it will bring back forgotten hope about our humanity's true superpower. So get yours today. Available for children too. Blue and pink for boys and girls respectively. Because it is vital for children to learn the value of unity so that they will continue to keep the bond together when they grow up. And children learn the best when they are still young by observing and imitating the grown-ups around them. So let them join in and see us, the grown-ups, united for this campaign. Look good too for your everyday use. Check them out at my store. 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Save the Children organization. If you bought them, take a picture wearing it and make your mark with me here using my hashtag #millionsofmarks. But my store is not accessible thru Teespring search (Sorry, I have to forgo its search service to reduce the prices). And check out my Tumblr main page aka my world domination manifesto to learn about me, an alien, my dream to make my marks on your planet, my millions of people target that I need to achieve before I die and all my other campaigns to achieving that dream. And if you want to help me live on this beautiful planet by donating to my Gogetfunding campaign, I will be eternally grateful to you. Finally, please like and share my blog posts, tweets, Instagram posts, and my Gogetfunding campaigns to as many people as you can because you are my last hope here before I run out of time to be on your planet. Thank you and have a good day.

Hmmm, just another double-standard on what-they-called "human rights" 😮 #perksofbeingscholar #ir #internationalstudies #currentissue #humanrights #echr #france #belgium https://www.instagram.com/p/CDBN4O_MbL6TBUD0phKkS-Ca_HM5CqtH8l3-540/?igshid=5d55veg23you
