I mainly choose colors for my OCs off of my own wardrobe. Which is mostly black. Or very very dark blue. I also throw in my favorite color: Petrol. Blue + Green mixed together is just so good.

I also try adding some other colors like white/light gray and desaturated brown for leathers. To make it less one sided

My Spidersona design takes a lot of things from Miles spray painted suit from Into the Spiderverse which actually is dark blue instead of completely black and also has a subtle pattern to it

As usual, I tend to draw characters that are not universally accepted, so people who like my pictures and my style are really precious to me. ​:D Thank you!!!!!! she was my gateway drug for Heavily Modded Custom Player Characters and I've been tinkering with her off and on uninterrupted since 2012, so I'm always tickled when someone likes her (＾ω＾ )

And she's a (heavily homebrewed) adept! I played sentinel on my first ME1 playthrough and it was great, SUPER versatile, and then I was dismayed at how much more useless it got in 2 and 3 lol. swapping powers around is a little harder in 2 - the "Set SFXPowerCustomActionBase IsBonusPower" command resets constantly in 2, while only resetting on save/load in 3, which means that I can get rid of the useless biotic grenade and replace it with Charge in 3 and I only have to remember to run the command on startup instead of Every Time There's A Loading Screen. (are those words not gibberish to anyone but me?) so she's a little glass-cannon-ier in 2 than in 3, where she is an extremely op'd one-woman wrecking ball.

(note that despite being my favorite series* ever ever ever, it is notably not on the extremely short list of "games whose combat I like enough to play on anything other than Idiot Weenie Baby Difficulty". its casual difficulty is genuinely still too much of a pain for me. the combat in mass effect sucks absolute ass and I stand by that.)

*horizon zero dawn does ultimately eclipse (🥁💥) it as my favorite single standalone game. we don't talk about the sequel.

also, for completeness: earthborn** / war hero, romances Garrus (obviously. seeing a Cool Alien and finding out you could kiss him was 100% of the reason i first played it. she would be absolutely dtf w/ wrex if bioware wasn't COWARDS though), renegon (ride or die for her crew, can't be assed with politeness to anyone else, will always do the right thing eventually but will bitch about it the entire time), destroy MEHEM ending :3

**she was originally a colonist, but earthborn works better for her Extremely Stupid Crossover Backstory that i've built up in my head. look, noveria was basically just the plot of aliens, you can't give me that AND lance henriksen and expect me NOT to run wild with it.

Thanks so much @curlyparmesan! Ask and you shall receive! I didn't take a whole lot of progress pics for this one, but I'm sure I have some to share!

I started by finding a free pattern online, that was originally for a long coat. You can find it here if you're interested! I ended up changing it quite a bit, though. First I printed out my pattern, cut the length of the coat to how I wanted it, made the neckline a bit higher, and made a mock up using a thrift store bed sheet.

I patterned the skirt part myself, just using a half circle skirt calculator and adjusting it to be slightly high-low in the back.

I cut and sewed everything out of my main fabric which I got from Fabricland, and then pinned on my bias tape. Then, to make the embroidery, I hand painted on a floral pattern, using some reference pics I found on Pinterest.

I then added my zipper and fur trim, and was done with the jacket! Unfortunately I don't have any progress pics for the belt or the hat, but they were both made of 2mm EVA foam, which the hat was covered in felt and the belt was covered in pleather I had leftover from my Loki cosplay years ago.

But yeah! That was my progress for this cosplay! It was a bit experimental, and definitely a bit rushed, but is absolutely one of the best things I've ever made. I love it so much. Hope this was interesting!

I give you, my Christmas break sewing project: Buddy the Elf! I made this whole costume in 3 days, and I genuinely can't believe how well it turned out!

I made every part of the costume from scratch, excluding the tights, and this was my first time ever sewing sleeves (properly... that is). I also hand painted the designs on the front to replicate the embroidery on the original costume.

Overall, very thrilled with this! And the fact that I actually managed to finish it before Christmas is some kind of miracle.

Finally watched Arcane, who's ready for a bunch of arcane spam!

Wish I could have truly seen how pretty it was, I swear Netflix was serving me 720p for most of it.

Do you ever have a character that you just immediately fall in love with and want to be in every scene? That was Caitlyn for me. Really like what she had going with every character she interacted with (especially Vi!)

Wow they sure did cover a lot of ground in 9 episodes. In a way it kind of felt like two movies, which is a good thing. Very cohesive.

LOVE the Woodkid song Guns for Hire, really really cool to finally see the scene it goes with.

REALLY surprised with how many unresolved plot points they left open though.

And a lot more spoilery thoughts too that I'll probably put in a different post.

Yep, I'm a senior! Computer Science here has a mandatory 2 semester capstone project (Computer Information Systems doesn't, however, those fuckers). They're usually like, projects for some business or organization (so basically free work, but I'm not bitter about the capstone system at all!! ha), but this time is the first year they offered a research-oriented capstone with a professor here. I ranked it as my first choice and I was assigned team leader. 

So there's four people on my team including me, and we meet once a week with the professor to review our progress/get questions answered. My prof doesn't want me to release details about our project until we've published our paper. I could probably link you eventually once it's published uou

But the field is wireless sensor networks, which is her specialty. Basically, we've coded our own simulator from the ground up (twice, hahaha ha, Unity was used for the visuals at first but it was too inefficient to mass run cases so now it's in C++) and we're writing a paper about findings from the simulator. But the whole paper writing thing... like, last semester towards the end in particular, she was just constantly dissatisfied with the literature review that I had to hand off to two of my group members and every week was just "well how did we disappoint her this time" even though she's a very nice, kind person. She kept saying we were doing grad level research work and I just. We're not grad students though?? One of my group members is literally working full time in addition to being a full time student. 

The bar has been lowered so much from the beginning of the project, hahahacries. And it jsut really hasn't been good whatwith my depression and anxiety. She also wanted us to get a lot of work done over winter break, which I'm pretty sure classes can't really do that since we're not enrolled for that break period, and the plan was to do some and we did nothing.

At the beginning of this semester, I strongly considered going to my dept chair's office and crying until he let me out of the second semester since I'd done an internship. But it's actually been better so far? Maybe because we're into the results section of the paper or maybe she's just starting off more understanding of our other time commitments.

A brief and ugly summary of surviving cold climates

For visitors and writers alike.

You were never meant to be here. Never forget this. You are an ape of the equator, built to run the savannah and swim in tropical waters. Whatever terms and conditions your body has, they are void here. Mother nature never certified to function in a Death World.

Enduring the cold is never a matter of “how much” as much at it is “how long”. Think of it as the water levels of the vieogames you have played. No matter what equipment enables you to remain longer, you can’t stay there indefinitely. The coat that keeps you warm and toasty for three hours in -15 is enough to keep you functional for an hour of -40.

Whatever the locals say, listen to them. Err to the side of caution if you must. You may not endure what they can endure, but you SURE AS FUCKING NOT cannot survive what they say cannot be endured.

That being said, alcohol is a filthy fucking liar and so is anyone who offers it to you. The warmth it gives is an illusion, and a sign of damage. You are worse off feeling comfortable with a mouthful of whiskey as you are freezing your gonads off stone cold sober.

Winter tires. Studded winter tiers are a MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH when you drive on a frozen road. That being said, whatever the locals tell you that your car will need to run as theirs do, take it. Taking the risk of being pranked is worth survival, and you can always stab their tires in the spring if they were shitting you.

Eat. For the love of god, make sure that you eat. Heavier meals might be unpalatable at first for someone used to lighter nutrition, but maintaining bodily warmth in a cold climate takes up a lot of energy, and you will feel tired and drowsy for a long while shile your metabolism adjusts to producing more heat than Mother Nature ever intended. The skinny people in your party are especially vulnerable, ensure their well-being on a regular basis.

If you have a smartphone/other essential technology on your body, keep them close to your body to keep them warm. They were not designed to be frozen any more than you were.

Sleep is death. SLEEP IS DEATH. Never, ever stop to rest in the cold, if you do not have the means to make a fire/otherwise produce heat. The cold tires you out because keeping warm takes energy, but taking a rest will not return your energy. If you feel the need to sit down and rest because you are tired because of the cold, call for help. This is not a hyperbole, if you feel like you are too tired to go on in a cold climate, CALL A FUCKING AMBULANCE. If you fall asleep in the snow, you will not wake up. Hypothermia can and will literally kill you.

Avoid skin-to-snow-contact if you can. It hurts because you were not supposed to do it. Consider ice to be like acid. Touching is bad for you.

but also oh man okay now i have to yell because this game. it's like. ok. so the game is about this little bug

(absolute creature. unauthorized fucking thing.) known variably as "the knight", the "little ghost", "pale thing", "small friend"- the point is they don't really have a name, or an identity, or any memories, or any personality, or anything. (spoiler alert: they have all of these.)

the game starts with you entering "Hallownest," a deteriorating subterranean kingdom of bugs that has been slowly rotting for an unknown amount of time as a mysterious infection consumes it from within. the king is missing; the queen has barricaded herself into her home out of an unspecified grief; all but a handful of citizens are dead; and nobody wants to sleep, because if you do the infection will come to take over your dreams and drive you mad. and dying doesn't free you from this because it just fills you with goo and puppets your corpse around! fun.

so your job as this little creature is to find out what's causing the dreaming sickness and put a stop to it.

there is a way you are supposed to put a stop to it. this is the easiest, worst, and most horrifying ending.

describing the story any further would delve into spoilers that are absolutely more fun to discover (and going lore-hunting is at least half the fun of the game - make sure to explore everywhere), but like. these little 16 pixels will RIP your HEART from your BODY. they will cause AGONIES. you'll be on the floor crying about bugs and you WILL like it.

as far as gameplay goes, it's a 2D sidescroller/metroidvania style, which put me off it for a long time because i haaaaaaaaaate metroidvanias. i actually started it, got past the first boss (which is a testament to how good it is in and of itself, because usually i get to the first enemy and am just like "nah"), went "oh right I hate metroidvanias," and gave up. and then about three days later i was like, "...but I want to know what happens next." as it turns out, it's actually highly moddable, so I stuck god mode on and played through the entire thing three times in about a month. I've actually weaned myself off of it for a couple of encounters, which is even more impressive! Troupe Master Grimm also headlines my very very very short list of "bosses I not only tolerate, but actively enjoy" (alongside essej from control + tom and hel from ghostrunner. that's the entire list.) combat is... still hard, but can be rewarding - it's mostly timing-based and there's a parry mechanic whose window is so fucking microscopic but actually managing it is really satisfying.

(also, like-

-i can't even go into details because it's BIIIG spoilers but like. the way two of the characters parry. like their stances and stuff. i'm screaming and wailing and tearing out my hair over the Implications of that-)

and the MUSIC too. the THEMES and MOTIFS. the way certain characters' leitmotifs creep into different areas or into other characters' themes... POETIC CINEMA. i could, have, and will continue to listen to the main theme, dirtmouth bgm, and city of tears bgm on repeat for hours. (also bonus favorite boss theme. the fact that this man is not a Tumblr Sexyman(tm) continues to boggle me-)

another thing I really like is that you're not the only adventurer in the world. there's not really a companion mechanic (though there are some upgrades that will give you little minions, and you can kill a clown and he'll give you his son as a reward), but there's a couple of other characters you can encounter periodically across the game who are on their own quests, which depending on your actions you can help bring to fruition or not. it just feels like the kind of thing you don't see very often? but this kingdom is known in-universe to draw adventurers, and there... actually are other adventurers. idk. it's neat.

anyway. play hollow knight. it will hurt you but you won't regret it.
