Oh my sweethearts I forgor to tell yall it's my bday (34).

I asked for a day off (I had 3 from last year but apparently in this company it's "better" if you let around 10 vacation days to get lost~)

Anyway I bought me a new pair of sneakers, the 3rd volumen of raeliana, hanako-kun after class, and a compilation book of old romance stories.

I decided the other day that I wanted to start buying hanako-kun manga but there was only from volume 10 onwards on the shop and that's why I bought just the special. It's going to be hard, it's kinda like starting to read csm...

Look Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the mangaka of Chainsaw Man, is very good btw. I'm also currently reading Goodbye, Eri at work. Also very good so far.

So... Chainsaw Man 180.

The chapter starts with Yoru doing the same Bang posture she was doing before trying to attack Aging with the finger bullet. With this, we confirm that the whole Aging speech at the end of 179 happened while he stopped/slowed time (hence the blurred lines).

After that, we've got the dream scene, which an incredibly cool detail.

For those who don't remember, in chapter 110 we have a dream sequence with Asa. It's a recurring dream where she's running down an alleway, the ground full of dead chickens (a reference to Bucky, at that point of the story). She tries not to step on them, but it's so full of bodies that she can't avoid it.

People have been talking a long time now about how this dream sequence actually connects with Asa and Yoru's relationship (specially this last chapters, with Asa being just an spectator as Yoru murders thousands with her own body). Although it is important to mention that this time, there are no chicken on the floor (or at least we don't see them during the chapter 180 dream sequence).

In any case, I think it's always cool when this kind of analysis that has been under discussion for months is being adressed so directly.

After seeing Denji for the first time since July 17, we've got the Aging World scene, and the main point of speculation in this chapter: the human that escaped that world a long time ago.

I've seen people theorize about that human being Quanxi. However, I think the most plausable option (albeit it's still just speculation) is Yoshida. Not only is he someone who looks like a teenager but clearly isn't one and can survave a 1v1 against Quanxi, but also we've got this inside cover art of him from two volumes ago:

Doesn't this place look familiar?

And yes, I know it might sound crazy to interpret cover art as foreshadowing. But it's not the time this happens in CSM. Take for example the inside cover art from volume 12, where we can see what looks like the buildings Yoru destroyed on chapter 178.

Not only that, but Yoshida being that person would add to Yoshida's and Aging interaction some chapters ago (as it wouldn't be the first time Aging is surprised at something Yoshida does) and that one dialogue from part 1:

And to close, I'd like to talk about the sideburns guy "Mreeee" at the end (as well as the whole pressing his head against the tree thing).

People have pointed out that it looks as if he's trying to mimick a cycada at the end of its life (maybe hoping that it will kill him). This might also relate to cycada's role in greek mythology, as they're related to inmortality:

In any case, I think it's really cool that —now that we've seen that Aging's powers are actually the opposite of that — we confirm that devils can represent the opposite of what they're supposed to embody (which helps to the birth devil theory).

2 things about CSM 177

1. Pochita most likely cut off all the pointer fingers because Yorus “bang” attack probably gave him flashbacks to- you know (also going off of volume 10, Pochita seems to share some memories with Denji)

I'm gonna dump some of my csm content here because I'm insufferable with csm

I've made tables of csm part 1 characters' first and last appearances (wanna make a whole post on it)

I have a 29 page document listing all of the parallels I find or see others mention (wanna make some posts on this as well)

I have an entire folder of my thoughts about csm (ignore the non-csm folder pls)

I have an entire sketchpad decided to drawing aki daily (which you can find here, also fun fact I'll be finishing it tomorrow at 92 pages)

I have 2 csm merch (a knockoff power nendoroid and aki figure) I also have volume 2, 4 and a scuffed version of 9 (which, I'm gonna be shameless here and say I tore out the pages from 4 and 9 and pasted them in my sketchbook/junk journal)

I participated in @/winterflan's csmtober2024 (that you can find by looking up #csmtober in my blog)

I'm slowly but surely starting a tradition where I write about the power system in csm in my sketchbooks (speaking of sketchbooks, I obv draw csm content in there too)

I even tried connected times where the plot beats IN ANOTHER FUCKING FRANCHISE are similar to csm

And I guess you can count the ocs and small aus I have as well

i need to have a long convo w someone who really likes chainsaw man.... like i just want to understand where all of the fervor is coming from i feel like im soooo close to understanding it and being onboard but man i have such complex feelings about fujimoto's work and i just can't work out how i feel.

im literally split on what ive read from him. i really enjoyed goodbye eri like that shit hit hard and i still think about it from time to time. but then fire punch is my number 1 enemy!!!!! i could not get through the first volume i was so grossed out and part of that is maybe i should have done some research about what i was reading but i typically like to go in blind for most things and it was such a huge mistake. i found fire punch so gross and it felt like it was just for the sake of being gross. it felt gratuitous and pointless. im trying not to harp on about it but it was so uncomfortable and bad to me. maybe if i had continued it would have gone somewhere but it was too much for me and so beyond not worth it

csm is truly split for me i just went back and watched the last four episodes of s1 and there's some things that i genuinely like about the series. i think the character and devil designs are interesting. the premise for the devils are interesting. most character's motivations are super interesting and grounded and sad but so so compelling. the action in the anime is so great and genuinely gripping and exciting to watch. the dialogue and pacing are v good and im constantly trying to figure out people's motivations but it's also Gross and it definitely feels like it's just for the sake of being gross. denji as the main character is the opposite of compelling for me. im not rooting for him most of the time. I find him annoying when he's on screen (which i know is intentional) and there's definitely something to be said that i, a girly in her late 20s, am not going to relate to a teenage boy but im watching mob psycho (almost done w s1) and mob is a middle school aged boy and i can relate to so many of his thoughts and worries and desires. he's so compelling and i am always rooting for him im his number one fan and i really love watching him and seeing what he's going to do next and he's a middle school boy!!!!!

someone send help i feel like im going crazy bc csm manga fans are so vocal and enthusiastic about their love for it (which i think is great) but i just don't get it :(
