canon is dead I rule the world. dsmp you are MINE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
dsmpblrs ocs shared between the 5 (five) singular people that inhabit this fandom
I'm taking the chance to just talk about my personal dsmp au that is basically canon if you don't think about it
I don't think we as a community wrote enough about demon ctommy. he was always my favorite it just gives him this evil vibe that I think is sooo funny and I always see it in ctommy art but never in literally any fic. and that's fine but imp or whatever-he-is-Tommy will always be real in my heart. in my head he used to be a bird hybrid, but when he died for what was supposed to be the final time they took his fucking wings and gave him cunty demon horns and tail. Death made him emo. for the sake of this narrative his wings used to be white too. Pair this with religious ctommy and you get peak
ctubbo. I think about him a lot. I think personally he wears armor under his coat. You'd think it start to get hot under there, and it does. his solution is to just Never leave the Arctic.
At some point he started developing resting bitch face, because it used to just be resting (autistic face of neutrality) but now he kind of just looks tired all the time. Not like Tommy's rbf where he looks like he's kinda pissed and has a headache 24/7. but at least they're semi matching now. bff's!!! (?) I can't write too much about ctubbo because my cutbbo is like 20 billion contradictions stacked on itself. he's not as simple as my ctommy.
He doesn't wear the red bandana anymore but he can't tell you why and he's not insecure about the scar on his face but he's not proud of it either. I FORGOT TO DRAW CRANBOO AND HIS WEDDING RINGS IM AN ANTI WHAT THE HELLL okay ignoring that blunder, their wedding rings are meant to be on their horns 💔 you can't fucking see cranboos singular (1) horn because it's out of frame, they're too tall.
SPEAKONG OF CRANBOO!!!! snakes in his hair because Hahhaa hattte eye contact????? Medusa???? get it guys get it do you guys get jut
The snakes talk to him. Take that as you will. He's a chronic suit wearer and will literally not wear anything else unless it's under or over the suit. he would like to never try anything new ever he needs this constant in his life or everything will fall apart and the world will end. He knows how to kit up and wear armor but just as a joke he wears random bits of armor in places he literally needs it least. as a fashion statement. Tommy doesn't wear any armor usually bcz who gaf he's not doing that shit
in my perfect world the egg plot in dsmp actually got used better and becsme more than a background plot. it could've been everything. anyway my dsmp au is egg war las Nevadas craziness and I'm right goodnight

Hello everyone!! I can finally release my piece for the DSMP Comics Zine! This was a total blast to work on, and if you didn’t see it earlier, here is a link to go download the entire zine for absolutely FREE! It will explain a little bit more about who people are, and why they have new powers! The zine is so very cool, and follows a linear story. Everyone’s work is amazing.

So we're doing this now
Tumblr media
Definition of Kink Meme (according to TvTropes)-
"A fandom and shipping phenomenon. Originally, most of them were based on LiveJournal, but a number have started on or moved to Dreamwidth. A Kink Meme is where a user (usually anonymously, though the rules on this differ between kink memes) posts both a pairing and a kink (or some kind of basic plot setup, or some other stipulation). Another user then anonymously fills this request with either a piece of fan art or a fanfic.
While kink memes, true to their name, usually contain plenty of smut, it is usually permissible to request fluff or drama fic with no sex or shipping elements as well, making this somewhat of an Artifact Name."
----
Do you Understand? You Understand. These are the Rules:
You Send Ask containing ship with a Kink/Plot/Stipulation. It can be nsfw or sfw. It can be anon. Example: cSNF, breeding kink. Another Example: cSam and cDream, prison angst, no smut. A Third Example: cPunz/Foolish/Sam, omegaverse au where Alpha Punz and Alpha Foolish find out Sam has been hiding his Omega status right before his heat.
I see this ask. I publish this ask.
Someone, multiple people even, if they so choose to have Demons about it, may fulfill this request through fanart, writing, being insane about it, whatever their heart so desires. This is entirely their choice. No one is required to fulfill the request, and it may simply exist happily on the blog. Writing and drawing is Hard, and the people who choose to Make The Content are god's strongest soldiers.
Someone else's kink may not be your kink and that's okay. People are not bad for having kinks. We are not hurting people for fantasizing and being weird little freaks. Its what we deserve actually. I'm tagging everything, so if someone's kink makes you uncomfortable, you can choose simply not to associate with it. This Is Healthy and I'm proud of you for having boundaries.
All Ships Are Allowed.
"But what about poppy-" It'll be tagged. Filter it. Or block this blog. Ship and let ship. Humans have a limited life span, I'm not wasting the few years I have making an argument that should have been settled in 2014.
DSMP-centric. RPF welcome as long as it relates to DSMP thematically. DSMP characters can be in Non-Minecraft AUs. Example: ccDreamnap, being excited about lore Second Example: ccDream switching places with cDream Third Example: cPonk/cSam in a streamer au.
"How is the characters being in a streamer au different from the CCs just being themselves?" ccSam isn't 7ft tall. Hope this helps<3
There might be more rules later. That is however a later problem.

Sorry I know this is pretty dark but it fucking disgusts me how people describe CSAM in like, lurid detail for shock value. I mean, even the terms “child pornography” (or “kiddie porn” which is so much fucking worse) are disliked but you’ll see people talk about graphic acts for shock value and stuff, like it’s not the documentation of some of the worst abuse a child can go through spread without their consent. Stop describing it as stuff like (and I’m sorry for having to type this) “kids being fucked” or even worse stuff. And stop comparing it to weirdo fanart or whatever- I don’t fucking like that shit either but it’s gross to compare it to actual recordings of severe abuse. You can discuss that shit without devaluing how horrific CSAM is, fucking do it. Treating anime drawings, even really fucked up ones I would very much not shed a tear over their disappearance, the same as Actual Physical Real Abuse Of A Child isn’t helping anyone.

what kinds of events? (if this question is too personal, ignore it)
Not personal, just profound disappointment in the OTW for...
Uh, this might be wildly triggering for some people so I'm going to throw this under a cut.
throwing their volunteers under the bus because they themselves don't seem to understand what the laws about CSAM are. Or what CSAM even is. Or why it's bad.
And before anyone starts, I'm not even remotely referring to fanfic or fanart or shipping in any capacity. I'm referring to the actual, flesh and blood human beings exploitation kind. Not having that argument, don't start it.
Anyway, I don't know if I can summarize it, so it's a really good thing someone already did:
I knew, and I knew for a long time, that the OTW was dysfunctional and at least a little bit incompetent, but that's baked into the foundation of most fandom things. This though...this feels unsupportable.

AO3 doesn't do image hosting but does accept fanart in its cataloguing system. (I remember seeing a lot more fanart there back in 2012/2013.) It's not plan A or plan B but "post fanart, properly tagged, on AO3" is definitely Plan G or H or something.
But if we're talking about a utopian hosting-and-built-in-cataloguing system, and not just overlaying a separate system on top of Furaffinity or Pixiv or whatever... my (uneducated! off the cuff!) thoughts are:
The main financial barrier comes from image hosting, and/or content distribution: having those thousands (millions?) of terabytes of images on hand and having them load within a reasonable timeframe when someone clicks on them.
A 100% decentralized P2P hosting solution would hit the same problem Tor does, namely being totally unmoderated and (I assume) a cesspool for CSAM, criminal conspiracy, etc.
...insert blockchain joke here.
Any third party storage+CDN service — CloudFlare, AWS — is going to be beholden to the same puritanical Visa+MasterCard+etc. restrictions on "adult content" that exist on most major platforms. That's fine if we're sticking to a specifically Disney-esque definition of PG: no female presenting nipples, etc., be willing to tighten the rules on whether queer bodies count as intrinsically "sexual" if the third party insists, be willing to moderate hard.
...so it's going to need moderation, I guess.
The best case is self-funded hosting like AO3: we own the servers — which could potentially be way more expensive than AO3's running costs, but donation support and/or membership tiers aren't an impossibility.
And then somehow not screw up the moderation? Which probably requires paying people for their labour, contra OTW?
An alternative would be somewhere between the P2P and centralised models — loosely federated fansites which can talk to one another a la Mastodon. (......how is Mastodon going these days?)
we need ao3 for fanart and I am so completely serious. A universal platform not driven by any kind of professionalism or end goal, just for creating. Most important of all it needs to share the incredibly helpful and complex filing system ao3 does. this would be beneficial I think. because I want it.

About (I'm paraphrasing) "Why does the OTW not send all reports of CSAM to crime-fighting agencies directly? Why is it on the PAC team to evaluate that with their own untrained eyes on their own computers, risking their safety and mental health, when NCMEC have far better tools and training to do that work?" questions and worries brought up by current anti-ao3/otw talk going around.
Do you WANT the NCMEC to be spammed with hentai?
More than it is already, I mean. Yes, website mods and evaluators of reported content do not have access to the databases that would let them determine whether a pornographic photograph/gif was of an actual, already identified child, or just of a short adult porn actor with a baby face whose porn gets reported frequently enough to be in any database under "Not CSAM". And if there were any A.I.s who could determine the likely ages in new/non-archieved material, they probably couldn't afford them (though I personally would not trust those tools to be accurate or incapable of messing up - in either direction - one bit). These A.I. would be extremely unlikely to impossible to be better at that work than human beings.
Evaluation and moderation - if a site chooses to do the latter - is important work, and while it sucks that many websites outsource it to barely-paid workers offshore or have to rely on unpaid volunteers to do it due to the sheer manpower it requires for larger sites, it's still necessary to do it. No matter how unpleasant and taxing it is. I'd love if everyone who did that work was well-compensated for it and had access to mental-health services, but that just isn't affordable for organisations who aren't specifically given money to do that (unlike police and agencies).
Someone needs to sort through the (reported or actively moderated) content to seperate the fanart of Steven Universe from the photos of real people, and the photos of what appears to be actual children from photos that appear to be of adults. Do those people sometimes fuck up? Sure. Wrt "cartoon vs photo", even, child protection organisations that should really know better have fucked up on occasion. To say nothing of the amount of people reporting cartoons as CSAM/CSEM all over fandom/the US-based internet.
That's why those layers of evaluation are so crucial to enabling actual law-enforcement to do their jobs. You see something that you believe is CSEM on a website, you report it to the evaluators on that website. They make a call whether that is a child in danger and, if yes, pass it on to the NCMEC or similar, and then they make their own evaluation to decide whether or not to notify the police, who makes their own evaluation to determine if it's truly legally actionable and then opens a case and tries to find the perpetrator. But if it doesn't look like any child is in danger according to the lower layers of evaluators - from the average person making a good-faith judgement to professional organisation workers allegedly trained to deal with this stuff - actual investigators don't have to waste their time dealing all by themselves with it. Or, to put it another way, so it's not all left up to the judgement of cops whether or nor someone committed an online sex crime.
Encouraging people to skip those layers out of worry that members of an Abuse Team - who took that job voluntarily, (well-)paid or not - might get disturbed by doing their jobs, is a terrible idea. And as long as those evaluators have a report to point to in the unlikely event that police find suspicious pictures in their cache during any unrelated investigation of them, they are gonna be fine wrt accusations of possession. Nor is the OTW liable if someone evaluate a ticket and determines the content legal when it later turns out it wasn't, as long as the illegality wasn't obvious (eg the words "Does anyone want to buy some photos of naked minors?" in a non-fictional context) or could have been proven with the tools at their disposal (which, since those tools are "human eyes and brains", means there's only proof of liability in fairly obvious cases). And that is as it should be, because lot whole lot of porn could be argued to feature people who aren't clearly 18 or older. You can't report all porn of people who look between 16 and 25 as CSEM, cause that would create a lot of false - and if not false, not proveable - reports.
The OTW cannot moderate all content, and the nature and purpose of the site makes forbidding certain suspicious words or tags pretty much impossible (but is also why it would be hard for anyone looking for criminal content to find and download it). But if they were to moderate certain suspicious-but-not-obviously-illegal content/tags, it would then make them liable if any content they didn't get to due to sheer volume - even as of yet unreported content - turns out to be illegal. Because it could be argued that if they moderate/screen a tag, they were likely to know about illegal activity in it, or at least suspected that the tag fascilitates such activity (cause why else moderate that tag but not others?). So they should have banned the tag, since they couldn't adequately moderate it. Which is why the people of the OTW don't look at anything or evaluate it unless it's been reported, and they don't kick it off the site "just in case" because then they would be moderating and liable. Kind of like how writers can't admit they read any fanfiction, only much much worse.
I'm not sure what would happen to AO3 if no one in PAC was willing to take "potential CSEM" tickets anymore. It's not like anyone can force them, nor should they. I doubt the OTW would be allowed to forward content to NCMEC automatically, in that case. Both because of the "layers are needed" argument above, and cause I'm sure that if website owners didn't have to hire their own people to deal with illegal material, they (the for-profit ones, at least) mostly just... wouldn't. So the most likely outcome would be that AO3 would have to be shut down.

TW: underage fictional content, mentions of nazism
I remember one time on Spanish twitter someone tried to compare fanfics and loli fanarts with nazi propaganda, trying to imply both could get people to normalize harmful ideas.
And I was just baffled, it was such an idiotic move to put at the same level fictional content made by anyone, a civilian, for self-indulgence, just for entertainment or as a coping mechanism, with content made by authorities with the intention to normalize hate crimes against a minority.
This is why I don't believe this video essayist and people who make videos about pop culture, in the Spanish side of the internet it usually means said person lacks so much media literacy (just like some fascist idiot named Zowl, or for the English speaking folks James Somerton regarding Asian MLM media), and this person was this kind of people, they use complicated and fancy words to sound like experts, but they're trying to imply harmful ideas, be it hate crimes are okay or certain media is bad because is the same as propaganda.
The worst part is that people like Zowl or this person from twitter are followed by hundreds, thousands of kids who internalize their ideas without critical thinking, kids who think is okay to harrass other people over lolis, that think a BNHA porn fanfic is the same as CSAM. For kids following left wing youtubers they don't realize how hypocrite they are by advocating for censorship on AO3, censorship on thousands of works written by marginalized groups, but complaining about the banning of LGBTQ+ books on the US.
Sometimes I want to convince myself this discourse is just some online bullshit, but seeing how the world is right now, the uprising of the roght wing and fascist rhetoric in many countries and kids repeating that same rhetoric but with fanfics and fanarts truly worries me.
"but AO3 hosts content that contains abuse!" please never go to a local library ever.
