In Remembrance

Ever so slowly did the dawn shine its brilliance over the horizon. After the moon bid its farewells did morning light begin to pour over the realm and her lands. Stars twinkling out of existence… a hazy mist filling the air as cool purples turned into light pinks and yellows. The air remaining cool for longer yet before the sweltering heat would roll in with the rise of the sun. For now… a fresh new day had come to start.

In the earliest of morn did one soul stir on the far outskirts of Thanalan. Far away from the protective walls he’s come to call home. Instead… taking a moment’s respite away from the festivities that still continued on even now.

The Flames Marshal had taken a long trek away from Ul’dah. Partially by chocobo, the rest of the ways by foot. In his hands were a bundle of pale white flowers, carefully being carried in his arms as he made his way down the dusty paths towards the church. Only ever stopping briefly to then turn for the graves that circled abouts the premises.

Finally, he had come to an indefinite stop before one of the many graves. Placing a few of the fragile flowers down in front and muttering a short prayer beneath his breath. His usual stern expression breaking into one of mourning.

“Rest well, dear friends…” His lips formed into a somber smile. “May your sacrifices be not in vain…”

The mantra played in Serella’s head as she fought the urge to fidget as she presented herself to Tataru, that the Scion might notify Minfilia that she was there. She was hardly a fledgling Scion at that point— but still just barely getting her wings all the same, and the thought that she was now being brought before the Antecedent alone made her stomach twist in knots. Logically, she was aware that it was highly unlikely that it was for anything that she had done wrong— the Scions were good about correcting flaws quickly rather than draw it out and make their members wonder— but she was, by default, nervous about what the Antecedent had to say. She’d been trying so hard to represent the Scions with honor and respect everywhere she went, and could only hope that it was apparent. 

“Ah! Serella!” She snapped out of her thoughts as Tataru spoke up again. “The Antecedent will see you now!”

“My thanks, Miss Taru,” Serella answered with a smile and a polite bow before she made her way through the hallway to the Antecedent’s chamber. 

Still, she burned with the want to know: what did Minfilia want to discuss?
