Campbell reconsiders the 1921 race massacre that devastated Tulsa, Oklahoma’s burgeoning African American Greenwood District. The artist personalizes this archival photo of a Tulsa woman, adding color and patterning and thereby making it impossible to overlook this peaceful scenario as ordinary or everyday. What if MMPR were to gain access to the Dairanger suits (Squadron Rangers)?

Here’s how I’d envision it.

Part 1

- Jason Lee Scott has Tommy Oliver get into contact with the Zordon of the past before the Z-Wave happened in Power Rangers in Space. Zordon explains that the White Ranger and White Tiger Ranger powers were part of a set and it's possible to unlock the new powers along with the Thunder Zords.

- A woman arrives in Angel Grove from a portal while being chased by monsters. She reveals herself to be the Yellow Ranger and Trini from another universe: Trinity Trinidad. She warns of a deadly force headed to Earth who usurped Rita Repulsa's powers and killed off her teammates, the alternate reality versions of Jason, Zack Taylor, Billy Cranston, and Kimberly Ann Hart.

- This pushes Jason and Tommy to get the ranger teams to train and achieve the same form as Rocky DeSantos did during the Beetleborgs crossover.

- Two sets of MMPR train. The OGs are the original MMPR with Trinidad replacing the late Trini Kwan. The other MMPR team were the replacements Rocky, Aisha Campbell, Adam Park, and Katherine Hillard. In Billy's place in the team was Justin Steward, the Blue Turbo Ranger.

- As expected, with two people occupying the same power set, their powers were halved. They needed to create a new set of powers for the Morphin Grid to give them full powers. Rocky was able to unlock Red Dragon Ranger, but the others were having troubles unlocking the Green Lion Ranger, Blue Unicorn Ranger, Yellow Griffin Ranger, and Pink Firebird Ranger.

- Jason gives Rocky a pep talk, saying that a team is only as good as its leader and he should have more faith in himself so that his team can have faith in him, reminding him that he's a pretty good guy who taught him how to do an arm bar back in the 1990s.

- Trinity then betrayed the MMPR, revealing herself to be the traitor to the original team in her universe while serving as Colonel Trinity (Gara) to Master Shadam of the Org Tribe, the Master Org of their dimension. Shadam killed the Master Org of their universe, stole the powers of Master Vile, and wields the wand of Rita Repulsa.

- They found this universe by tracing back Trinity's connection with the Morphin Grid to this alternate universe Earth. Trinity then ends up corrupting the OG MMPR with the influence of Shadam's mind control by tainting their Power Coins with Org Tribe energy.

- The powered-up OG Rangers make short work of their replacements before they end up reclaiming the other half of MMPR powers.

- Tommy Oliver attempts to save the day with the Master Morpher, morphin into his multiple forms to fight against Master Shadam. However, he is stabbed in the back by Major Pain (Zydos). The hypnotized MMPR then turn on the White Tiger Ranger.

- The MMPR know Tommy too well and the hypnotized Jason gets the upper hand, who them prompts his team to use the Power Blaster to un-morph him. He then steals the Master Morpher away from his rival and seemingly kills him.

Part 2

- The Replacement MMPR Team, with no Power Coins, regroup with an injured Tommy. They first contact Tanya Sloan and attempt to use the Zeo Ranger powers in order to deal with Master Shadam's Org Army. However, they start losing their Zeo crystal powers too because Master Shadam has started invading the Morphin Grid through the Master Morpher so that only the MMPR could use its infinite power.

- They then hear the OG MMPR are headed to the White House using the Megazord in order to destroy it, with them destroying property, tanks, police cars, and fighter jets along the way.

- Knowing the danger of having multiple ranger teams without access to the Grid, the team attempts to use the New Powers once more, with Tanya sharing her Zeo powers to Aisha to get aid her attempt at creating a new power never before seen on Earth until the Super Mega Force Rangers and Rocky accessed it.

- The injured Tommy gives Rocky a pep talk too, saying he's every bit a leader as Jason is, he should just have confidence in himself.

- The bad guys close in on the good guys inside the cave, with the Zeo Rangers and one Turbo Ranger barely holding it together because their powers are themselves starting to fade with Master Shadam's corruption of the grid. Another Shattered Grid event might happen. Inspired by Jason and Tommy, Rocky transforms into the Red Dragon Ranger and saves the weakening Zeo team plus Justin.

- The rest of the rangers were also inspired by the heroism of Rocky, which resulted in them getting new morphers in the form of Aura Changers. They then change into the Thunder Power Rangers with free access to the Thunder Zords without morphing the Dino Mega Zords to turn into them.

- The TPR drive the monsters back and with Zordon's instructions, fly out with the Thunder Zords to stop the Dino Megazord from killing the president and destroying the White House. Unlike the earlier battle with the Dark Rangers, the veteran hypnotized MMPR were tough opponents against their replacements.

Part 3

- The Thunder Power Rangers get help from the Yellow Zeo Ranger in her Yellow Zeo Zord. This allows Tommy to summon the White Tiger, which then merges with the Thunderzords to form Mega Tigerzord while the Red Dragon Thunderzord Robot Form attacks from the rear.

- After defeating the Dino Megazord, a showdown between the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Thunder Power Rangers commence. Master Shadam has Major Pain morph into the MMPR Green Ranger to make it a 6-on-6 match, but because Master Shadam is aiding the MMPR, they were forced into a corner on top of Tommy still being injured.

- Just as the MMPR were about to use the Tower Formation Attack to take out the TPR, the Yellow Zeo Ranger attacks the alternate universe Trinity, saying "This is for the real Trini!" before she lost her connection to the Morphin Grid. This prompts Rocky to use that opening to summon the Power Cannon and do a beam struggle against the MMPR's Power Blaster that they win out because Trinity was injured. This finally de-morphs the whole MMPR team.

- The TPR then face off against the Org Tribe's Big Three... Master Shadam, Colonel Trinity (in her Org Tribe form), and Major Pain... with Master Shadam finally revealing his Master Org form.

- They struggle for a bit, with them running out of power because Master Shadam still has the Master Morpher and is still attempting to shatter the Morphin Grid, but then they get saved by the non-hypnotized MMPR, who offer their own remaining power to them to recharge their batteries.

- Defeating Master Shadam proves tricky because of his illusion abilities, but the inner martial artist abilities of the Thunder Power Rangers allow them to see through the lies and take the Master Morpher away from Shadam, which makes the Morphin Grid powers open up to them once more.

- The recharged TPR destroys Major Pain with another Team Cannon shot, does a team attack on Trinity to de-transform her back to human form, and then they're forced to finish off Shadam with a slash from the Thunder Megazord and a third blast from the Power Cannon.

Description: Zoe has ivory skin,  short syrup colored hair, and honey colored eyes. She has a light dusting of freckles across her shoulders, nose, and arms. Her hair covers her right eyes much like Erin's, but she has pushed it back to reveal her other eye is gold. She is an inch taller than Neil, and wears jeans, a yellow tank top, and a Band-Aid atop her nose. She also has a sweater sometimes wrapped around her waist that is a dark blue color, but she doesn’t always wear it. 

Personality: Think of her as a more responsible Nikki. She also likes causing chaos, but she is more into “sophisticated chaos”. I think she is a bit of a “fun mom” figure, always coming prepared for anything. She loves lock-picking and slight of hand, and has taught Nikki some things. She sometimes steals things for Max and his friends, but she mostly works on her own. She is amazing at archery, and her parents sent her because she enjoys being out in nature. She isn’t a huge fan of having to do other camps, but she believes it gives her more time to learn new tricks.

Camp: None (Camp Counselor) 

Description: Arizona has unusually snow white hair, diamond blue eyes, and porcelain colored skin. She is a little shorter than David, but is a bit tall for her age. Her hair drops down on one side, covering half of her eye. She has also put it up in a loose ponytail, but mainly keeps it down. Her hair is about down to her chest, and is silky and fluffy. She has a small scar on her neck, but it is barely visible. She wears a choker necklace over it with a type of crystal. She is named for her white diamond colored hair and gem-like eyes (since Arizona is filled with crystals).She wears the standard Camp Campbell counselor shirt with a small knot tied at the end. She also wears black leggings and sneakers.

Personality: Although sometimes sarcastic, Arizona can be very kind (the best way I can describe it is when Gwen goes into her “mom mode”.). She is very protective of the campers, and tends to volunteer to look after them. She is often stressed, but doesn’t show it. Both Arizona and Gwen tolerate each other, so they sometimes chat about random things. Arizona enjoys the company, and Gwen likes to talk about books to her. She also enjoys being outdoors, so she will help David take the kids on hikes. She relates to the kids that both Gwen and David can be annoying at times, but does think fondly of them. She is basically the big sister of the camp.

2020 Music Recommendations

2020 – WHAT A SHIT YEAR! There was so much craziness in those 365 days – from politics to a pandemic. Music was often times one of those things we could take comfort in or use it as a tool to express a range of emotions. I’m always surprised when compiling these list (of which I’ve been doing for 20+ years now it seems) that no matter the state of the world, there is always an overabundance of great music to be discovered. 2020 musically, delivered - including surprising returns from some bands who’ve been rather quiet in the past years like Consolidated, Cabaret Voltaire, and Portion Control.  

The majority of what I listen to is electronic based music, with techno-body music being my favorite and there was STILL PLENTY of that in 2020 from labels like Aufnahme+Wiedergabe, Fleisch, Bite, X-IMG, Sonic Groove, SOIL, and more. Occasionally something a little lighter like the ethereal shoe-gaze goodness of Mint Julep (“Stray Fantasies” was an amazing record), or the post-punk of House of Harm (wonderful new discovery this year with “Viscous Pastimes”) and Sure (you all slept on “20 years” in 2020) works its way in to my listening. I still find synth pop from the likes of Riki, Korine, Tanz Waffen and Wingtips wonderfully appeasing. The wave material from the likes of Handful of Snowdrops, Linea Aspera, Zanias, Hante., Minuit Machine and Replicant was perfect for those melancholy moods. I even dipped into some aggressive near metal stuff this year from the likes of Pudeur, ESA and Youth Code – perfect for those days of anger.  Oh, and I was thrilled to see a lot of exclusive, unreleased and remixed Curve material surface this year – a band who embraces several genres (walls of guitar, shoe gaze, industrial) and moods.

This isn’t a top 10, top 25 or even a top 100. Instead, it’s an A-Z recommendation list encompassing many genres as those lines are getting more and more blurred. A good tune is a good tune, regardless of genre.  

HIGHLY encourage you to get out there and seek out new music; Visit the record stores, go hear a new DJ, fire up Spotify or another streaming service, check out some new music via podcast, DJ mixes, label sites, online retailers, even Facebook. One of the best sources for discovering new music is BandCamp - who in 2020 with the pandemic started BandCamp Fridays in which the site waived its normal fees to assist artist impacted. Taking place, the first Friday of every month, those will continue in 2021. There’s a plethora of discoveries to be found out there. If you do the work, you’ll be rewarded ;)     Speaking of Spotify – I made a playlist this year featuring plenty of the bands on my list. As in years past I’m certain I missed a few things, ignored the hype on certain releases or just plain forgotten something. It’s a chore to compile this list, but I love to do it. There’s a ton of new pioneering music out there for sure waiting to be discovered and it’s the “what’s next” that keeps me a motivated music fan. There’s never a dull moment in speaking, writing, DJ'ing or promoting new music, so I’ll keep doing it and hopefully be a guide for you all ;).   If it needs mention and I overlooked it - I may do an addendum in the next week or so. Lady Gaga finally released her sixth pop record titled “Chromatica” four years after her last one titled “Joanne”! The album contains collaborations with Ariana Grande, Blackpink and Elton John.

She shared the happy moment with her fans via social media by showing videos of her dancing to her tunes with her best friend and manager Bobby Campbell!

Lady Gaga was dressed in a cool Manga patchwork tee custom-made for her by Mexican streetwear brand NO NAME, founded in 2015 by Jonathan Morales!

This top is made out of three different tees featuring Hatsune Miku, characters Goku and Vegeta from Dragon Ball, and Mazinger Z. It was further embellished with crystals.

Her studs and spikes-embellished fuchsia chrome Alice mask is yet another custom Michael Ngo ($180).

381. It Came From the Daily Show: one episode from August 1999, and one from September 1999

I have a treat for the episode for August -- I uploaded my vhs copy of it!

 By August, Jon is still walking to his desk at the beginning of the show -- I still can’t remember when he stopped doing this. Jon has to get through the show quickly tonight, it’s their back to school episode, and he has to go out and buy notebooks, binders, and toughskins. Sometimes he chafes! Ya’ll are like what on earth are toughskins? Toughskins were these ugly pants for kids that Sears used to sell in their catalog back in the day. They were supposed to be more durable, but I can’t imagine they were very flexible. Here’s a commercial.

Headlines - Pilot to Coke-Pilot : American Airlines employees caught smuggling cocaine. There may of been an incident of cocaine leaking out onto the food in a food cart...”resulting in an entire coach section running up and down the aisles with sandwiches held aloft screaming, ‘WOO-HOO! HAM AND CHEESE! YEAH!’.”

American Airlines had to change their slogan: 

Clinton Vacation Diaries: Day 5 - Bill is on vacation golfing at Martha’s Vineyard. People were watching him and began singing “God Bless America”, which is creepy. 

Tough Glove - Little League World Series heats up. Kids from all over the world come to a little town in PA to learn new ways to call their teammates homophobic slurs. Hey, Jon said it, I didn’t. Winners will either be sent to their rooms ... or their looms depending on where they are from. This is one of the crueler segments that I’ve covered from this series, and something Jon and crew got away from come late ‘99 and into 2000. 

Correspondent Piece - Stilt Stalkings: Stephen Colbert interviews Uncle Sam who says that his ex wife is stalking him.  “I want you to leave me alone!” he says. 

Stephen: Did you ever go through his garbage?

Ex-wife: no....

Stephen: Good, because he peed all over it. 

After commercials, Jon asks, “...is it a bad sign if someone in the audience says to me, ‘GET IN MAH BELLY!’?”

Other News - Going Going, Gun : “Los Angeles bans gun sales at gun shows. Gun Lobbyists say, ‘gun shows don’t kill people, people shows kill people.’”

Interview - Nia Long: I usually skip the interview in these entries, due to time constraints, but this one is special. Nia teaches Jon what a ho bag is. Nia lost her luggage three times on this promotional tour. However, she says that he mother always told her “no matter where you go, always carry your ho-bag”.  

Nia: you know, your toothbrush, your condoms, a clean pair of underwear, your protein drink...

Jon: My apartment is a ho-bag!

Jon was just reading Family Circus. 

This Just In - Nice Cans:  Campbells introduces a new soup label. Because that was news in 1999. I love this stupid thing so much, Jon and Crew makes something as trivial as soup funny. This was the Daily Show I loved for years that sadly went away.  

“Many say collectors will be rushing out to stores to buy the old cans, and place them on a trophy shelf alongside the bittersweet dream that was Crystal Pepsi.”

“The new label also features a photo of soup in a bowl, which will come as a revelation to the millions of consumers who up until new always ate their soup of out a hat!” 

I actually remember those new labels, haha. The Campbells can had stayed the same all my life until then. So when that changes, you notice it. 

Out at the Movies - Summer, 1999 wrap up: Jon says in the introduction that Frank will tell us why the Summer of 1999 movies went so “horribly, horribly wrong” -- but I’ve read articles where people declare 1999 as one of the best  years for movies. Maybe 20 years ago, people were focused on the disappointment of The Phantom Menace, and Eyes Wide Shut? I mean, in the How Did this Get Made podcast episode about Lawnmower Man, Jason Mantzoukas even says that he CRIED when he saw how bad Phantom Menace was.

September 30, 1999 -- I uploaded this one from my old tapes too.

Here we are, bby. This is one of my all time favorite episodes. Jon learns all about Garth Brooks’ alter ego, Chris Gaines. Oh boy, Chris Gaines. Garth Brooks like, wanted to be a rock n roll star, and star in a movie or something so he created this character named Chris Gaines? Garth even went to make believe land, and gave him a whole backstory. I remember one was his mom or his dad coached swimming in Australia? There was even a faux Behind the Music on VH1 about Chris and how his bandmates died?! It was seriously one of the dumbest things from 1999. By the way, The Lamb never became a movie. 

Headlines - Alter Egomaniac: Garth puts on a TV concert of his alter ego, but he performs on stage as Garth? Will he ask himself for an autograph of Chris Gaines?

I found the entire interview that played in between songs for the special, including the music video for Chris’ first band Crush (because that’s an original name for a band). Garth is totally lost in Chris Gaines when he’s explaining the faux musical video. You have to watch it. The bizarre “did you know?” about Chris’ fictional life are also in the clip. Was this music video made for the movie that never got off the ground? So many unanswered questions.

Jon says we can’t care about this stuff because CHRIS DOESN’T EXIST.

Stephen Colbert has to go freak on some bones? I wanna know where that shower was. Is it the one in Jon’s dressing room? Did they got to a co-workers apartment just for that shower scene? 

Ooh! This episode has its commercials intact! There’s gonna be an SNL marathon Friday night in honor of Superstar. Also, a Phantom Menace Playstation game came out about four months too late.

Other News - Web of Receipts: amazon.com becomes an internet flea market with the launch of z shops. They’re gonna offer more than just books n cds. e.

Out at the Movies with Frank DeCaro: For the Love of the Game - My boy Frank didn’t like it. Kelly Preston looks like Lisa Loeb, Kevin Costner has a bunch of crow’s feet.
