I've been pretty out of the swing of things, but I finally got around to playing through new "Cryptid Crush" update! Gonna write down a few things bellow. Putting it under the cut to avoid spoilers for people who didn't check it out yet.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!

SO, I decided to actually play the whole thing from the beginning (totally not because I wanted to see August in that patient gown), and I was glad to have done so! Apologies for a bit random list of things I wanted to note down just off the top of my head:

Transparent sprites of Taro and Mike Madhouse are a really neat detail! Also, unless I'm mistaken, I can see some tiny bits of writing edited or added (like some descriptions during fight with Mike Madhouse or that little bit after cemetery fight, with a chat between Robyn and August - it's a small bit, but it allows to introduce a bit more info on the characters).

New additional voiced lines! Plus Robbie and Mr. Walker getting their voices!

Loving new look for August! It's also nice to see both August and Oz in alternative outfits in-game. And if I'm not mistaken, Robyn's got a new icon during fights, plus Edith had sprites with a bit different facial expression in Chapter 1.

TONS of lore. So many little bits that show relationships between characters that we previously didn't see interacting between each other. Like August and Atlas talking to Tessie, for example. It's also nice to get glimpses like this on the everyday life of the characters, as well as some hints on their backstories.

Tessie is absolutely gorgeous, how dare you!

New characters! I love Hound and their attitude. Also introduction of Lex was done great! All the foreshadowing and details (like "twenty bucks" thing) made a good build-up to the great reveal!

Seriously, there are both hillarious bits and the ones that made me want to cry. Like Oz repeatedly falling facefirst onto the ground while Lex is "correcting" the up and down. Or that added small bit with Mike when he meets Mr. Walker. These added lines and that sprite of slimeball Mike made me go "Ouch-".

The atmosphere of the "Nowhere" was EXTRA trippy, and this feeling was done so well!! With both music, skipping through game scenes, certain things getting distorted, various Lex's forms and such, and especially later, when it got to the fishing mini-game and Robyn's sprites progressively getting less and less detailed, until it goes down to the very rough looking sketch.

As always, amazing music! It reflects greatly the mood of the atmosphere, like Atlas's theme, or the one that plays in the "Nowhere". And the track "Wrath of the Recolors" that plays during Mike' and Jamie's fight rocks!

Also, don't mind me, I'm gonna be screaming in the corner from getting to see so much of Oz in the new update. The bit where he gives you a note got my heart. Also, boy needs some rest desperately.

I apologize if I got something wrong, but it was a rather quickly written little thing. In any case, it was a nice treat, and I'm looking forward to when I can draw something again. As always, "Drowsy Drake" team did a great work!

More Falling River AU stuff + info

Here I’ll be posting the actual characters of the AU, and who their inspiration is from Gravity Falls

Orion: Both Stan + Ford (First man to summon Ritch since the last thousands of years of being sealed away, only for him to seal them away again)

Bev: Dipper (Closeted at the start of the AU but in the future finally legally changes his name to Ben. He just wants to help his uncle in figuring out why strange things are going on within their town, and why Orion can’t sleep at night. Temporary puppet of Ritch but luckily gets away, albeit traumatized)

Dahlia: Mabel (Lil’ bit of Pacifica?) (Cousin of Bev and daughter of Orion, she isn’t as nearly cheerful as her counterpart but she does enjoy spending a lot of time in the woods and is the first to discover odd symbols etched into the trees)

-The winged deer within this concept sketch is an Arkansas Cryptid known as the Snawfus. The Snawfus is a creature from the tales of the lumberjacks of the emerging United States. The Snawfus is a white deer with wings and huge antlers that lives in the woods of the Ozark Mountains of the United States. The antlers of the Snawfus are said to be the living branches of a dogwood tree, and are often depicted as having blossoms on them as well as green leaves.

-Some versions of the Snawfus legend depict the mystic white deer as an omen of death, following the Celtic pattern of hellhound warnings, in which one sighting of the sighting leads to delight, a second sighting of the Snawfus summons fear, and a third sighting of the Snawfus results in death.

Norma: Fiddleford (Old friend of Orion doomed to a curse that changed her into a beast by Ritch’s hand, all because she wanted to warn the town of the angel they all believed to be their savior was actually going to destroy them all. Ritch couldn’t have that.)

Cedar: Soos (Younger sister of Kendall, she is surprisingly smart and tends to be the one that comes up with theories alongside Bev, only she doesn’t believe there is actually anything weird going on.)

Kendall: Wendy (Bev’s shameful crush, she knows of his feelings but doesn’t mention them because he’s already going through enough. She herself is an atheist and is utterly horrified by the idea of their town being cursed, as she’s lived there her entire life. Loves the HELL out of hunting.)

Sanden: Ford (Orion’s partner and closest friend, disappeared for the last 30 years after trying to make a deal with Ritch, only to end up being dragged down to Hell and tortured. He returns exhausted years later and furious, scared, and wants to protect his family)

Jack: Gideon, Robbie (Second person to summon Ritch 30 years after Orion and Sanden out of pure spite and jealousy for Bev and his family. He truly believes that they think they’re entitled just because they attend to the church. Is manipulated into thinking that he’s doing the right thing by Ritch, but is almost killed and ends up being saved by Orion and Dahlia)

I LOVE YOUR DIBPER ART!! A lot of dibper stuff has weird sexual undertones but yours is so wholesome and happy. I love dib and he's such a sad and neglected character, so seeing him happy is so great to me <333

I'm happy y'all like my art!

I lean more heavily into cute-stupid love in most ships, especially in young love. They're both teenage boys but they don't tread far into those urges.

Dipper is still a sweaty nervous boy and I like the way he acts in the series because it's very accurate (Once upon a time I was a teenage girl and trust me I've met a lot of 'Dippers', some were alright and others were... uncomfortable) to how boys act his age. Dipper has his fair share of being just as creepy as Mabel (he has multiple pictures of Wendy, lies awake thinking about her, and whispers to himself about her looks while standing RIGHT NEXT TO HER) but those things are all 'young love' with a hint of 'obsession' and it happens to all of us. The thing is, Dipper is a aware of his 'crush' and doesn't outright force himself onto Wendy or manipulate her like Robbie did. He just wants to hang out with her, be cool around her and make her happy.

Dipper's character is pretty much close to the same as how I draw him with Dib, he likes Dib and wants to hang out with him.

And Dib likes Dipper, there's no question about it. I'm pretty sure Dib is more comfortable around Dipper than he's ever been with a living soul. Dipper is his first real friend and shares his fascination with cryptids. And he believes Dib when Dib says he fought an alien!

No one listened to him about anything and Dib was a shut-in until he and Gaz were sent to Gravity Falls.

I don't have a full story and probably never will because I'm not a good illustrator but I wanted to write out how Dipper and Dib met like maybe it was in the Mystery Shack where Dib heard how the townsfolk go there to buy 'real' merch and when he does go he's not impressed by it at all Lmao

I can see Dib talking back to Stan and questioning his props and Dipper and Mabel are in the other room hearing their Great Uncle yelling and checks it out and Mabel immediately 'falling in love' with Dib upon seeing him (I love Mabel don't worry)

How they meet is still unsure, my original concept was Dib losing his glasses out in the woods and Dipper finds him and helps him back to the Shack to replace them (and not charging him because why not lol)(or they're both out in the woods and run into each other when being chased by 'something' Idk)
