If I had a boat I would sail to you by Sunnyrea (E, 20,576 w., 1 Ch. || Titanic Fusion) – John is completely different and special from anyone Sherlock would normally come in contact with - no talk of money and hidden family secrets, no surface, superfluous conversations and blatant lies. A BOAT PERSON YEEEEEES BOATS BOATS BOATS BOATS BOATS DO YOU HAVE A REASON FOR LOVING THEM? YOU HAVE A LIST OF FAVS AND THEY ARE GREAT ARE THERE ANY YOUD RECOMMEND PEOPLE LEARN ABOUT OR THAT YOU WANT TO INFODUMP ON SPECIFICALLY SORRY FOR THE CAPS I AM VERY VERY EXCITED
Okay, so, if I had to give a reason for liking ocean liners, the answer is probably that I'm a mega-autist. However, it started in the 5th grade. Like everyone else, Titanic was my gateway drug. That eventually expanded into other ocean liners.
If I had to recommend one to learn more about, it would easily be the SS America.
Tumblr media
She had a long and storied 55-year-long career. I highly recommend the documentary by Oceanliner Designs on YouTube. However, I will give an abridged version of her story beneath the cut. It's a thrilling story, so if you're interested, don't read this; go watch his video. Its better:
youtube
Designed by the famous naval architect William Francis Gibbs, she was launched on August 31st, 1939. The day before World War II began. She was actually part of FDRs new deal program, meant to help the United States recover from the great depression. Her construction employed thousands of people, and nearly every state contributed to her in some way. She was built to a 3 compartment standard, meaning with 3 of her 14 watertight compartments flooded, shed stay afloat. This is actually better than most modern cruise ships, I might add. She was completed on April 16th, 1940, but given all the U-Boats everywhere, she couldn't exactly serve as a transatlantic liner. So the maiden voyage of this ocean liner was actually a Mediterranean cruise. United States Lines actually painted two giant American flags on each side of her hull, with the text “AMERICA UNITED STATES LINES” in big, bold letters, just in case they somehow did encounter a U-Boat.
Tumblr media
America was a neutral country at the time, so that kind of thing was important to advertise. Eventually, the US got pulled into the war, and the SS America was requisitioned as a troopship and renamed the USS West Point. I don't know if this is confirmed, but I suspect that it's because if she were lost in the war, announcing that a ship bearing the name of our country had been lost to enemy action would be a huge blow to morale. When her running mate, the SS United States, was constructed, the US government tried to pressure William Francis Gibbs into giving her a different name for this exact reason. It didn't work. I love him. Anyway, here's a picture of her during her service.
Tumblr media
The SS America carries the honor of being one of the few ships to never have a single death occur on board during the war. She might have actually been the only one. Anyway, in 1946, she was returned to United States Lines and renamed back to SS America. This time, when they repainted her back to her civilian colors, they ditched the name and flags on the sides of her hull. (Thank god.) Her career with USL was successful, if uneventful. In 1952, the SS United States was introduced. The Big U was about 267 feet longer, twice the size, and twice the speed. Given that the SS United States is still, to this day, the fastest passenger ship of all time, America had a little bit of trouble keeping up. America's passenger numbers fell after this, but she still had many loyal passengers who preferred her. The SS United States’ interior design was a tad lackluster compared to the SS America.
With rising operating costs and competition from air travel, she was deemed an unnecessary part of the USL fleet. In 1964, they put America up for sale. She was bought by Chandrice Line, which serviced the postwar emigrant run from Europe to Australia and New Zealand.
Tumblr media
America was renamed Australis and served them until 1977, when, faced with ever-increasing fuel costs, could no longer compete with air travel. She is remembered to this day by many of the emigrants as being a very happy ship, but Chandrice didn't exactly maintain her very well. On one voyage, part of her hull opened up, and a compartment partially flooded. The crew was unable to fix it, and for the rest of the 3 week voyage, she had an awful list over to one side.
Now comes the most shameful part of her career. In 1978, she was bought by Venture Cruise Lines for 5 million dollars. Seeking to capitalize on nostalgia, they offered 5 day cruises to nowhere. To prepare her for this new role, they repainted her in what was definitely her second-ugliest configuration, and they gave her her old name back.
Tumblr media
And then they kinda… stopped. They made no effort to modernize her (a ship constructed in the 1930s), and her interiors were, for lack of a better word, a dump. The swimming pool was full of garbage bags, toilets were overflowing, and there were rats and bugs everywhere. It was a nightmare. Truly, a predecessor to the poop cruise from hell. The passengers on her first cruise actually mutinied, and the ship barely made it past the Statue of Liberty before the captain turned her around. The health inspection board was called in, and they examined the ship. They gave her a score of 6.
Out of a possible 100.
Venture went bust, and America was put up for sale again.
Shockingly, the ones who bought her were Chandrice Line again, for 1 million dollars. Meaning they profited 4 million dollars while also getting their ship back in the process. She was renamed AGAIN to Italis, and her forward funnel was so corroded that it had to be cut off, giving her an extremely ugly and unbalanced profile. Even to the lay person, most can tell at this point that she looked very sad.
Tumblr media
Her final years with Chandrice were short and uneventful, only lasting 2 years. Chandrice wanted to completely modernize her and have her serve as a modern cruise ship, but this never happened. She then bounced around from owner to owner. First, she was the Noga, intended to become a prison ship. Then she was the Alferdoss, but only the port bow was the Alferdoss, because they only put the name on one side of the hull. So the starboard bow and the stern were still the Noga. She was nearly sold for scrap, but after they scrapped the lifeboats, they defaulted on their payment and pulled out. Then, she was bought by a Thai investment firm, which intended to completely restore her and convert her into a 5-star hotel, much like the Queen Mary had in the 1970s. After a short period of drydocking, it was found that, despite the neglect, her hull was in remarkably good condition. The trip from New Zealand to Phuket, Thailand, was a long and dangerous one. Approximately 100 days. A Ukrainian tug won the contract, and in 1994, they set off…
Tumblr media
only to immediately turn around due to the weather. They tried again, and again the weather turned against them. The tow line snapped, and they sent crew aboard to try to reattach it, but it was no use. They were airlifted off by helicopter, and the SS America, now named SS American Star, was set adrift. There was no one aboard, and the ship had no power. Seemingly tired of the years of neglect and mistreatment, the SS America decided to go out on her own terms. She went aground at Playa de Garcey, off the west coast of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Within 48 hours, the pounding waves broke her in two.
Tumblr media
She was declared a total loss and promptly abandoned. The waves quickly ate through the stern, causing it to deteriorate very quickly. The bow, however, remained standing, up until about 2008, when it began collapsing into the sea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's difficult to imagine that at one point, this was the grand old lady of the seas.
By 2013, nothing of her was left standing above the surface.
Along with her eye-achingly beautiful appearance, she had an extremely long and storied career. So that's why she's my favorite liner of all time. Most liners only last 25 to 35 years. Hell, the SS United States was only in service for 17 years. The SS America had a 55-year-long career. 74 if you count the time she spent wrecked, as she frequently got visitors. She was a truly outstanding ship, and I'm devastated that she couldn't be preserved. If it's any consolation, Phuket was struck by a major typhoon in 2004, so America was probably doomed regardless. If I could pick one liner from history to undo the fate of and magically preserve, it would EASILY be her.

Ashley Barnett, 24 (USA 2005)
Tumblr media
To those on the outside looking in, Ashley might appear to have the perfect life. She had a promising acting career, a boyfriend who cared about her and she was going on an ocean cruise to celebrate her upcoming 25th birthday.
But her struggles were much harder than most others knew. Three weeks before her death, she underwent an abortion. Her boyfriend Geoff said she was quite depressed at times afterwards.
When the couple embarked on the cruise, Geoff was in recovery from drug addictions and brought Vicodin and a bottle of cough syrup tainted with methadone. (Methadone is sometimes prescribed to recovering addicts to help them through the withdrawal, but Geoff was attempting this process on his own.) He warned Ashley about the contents of the cough syrup and even mixed it in front of her so that she wouldn’t accidentally use any.
It never occurred to him that she would use it on purpose. Ashley had always been very against drugs. She even composed a rap song against drug use. She never would have taken any drugs recreationally.
One day into the Carnival cruise, Geoff went to the cabin to check on Ashley because she had apparently been asleep all day. At first he had wanted to let her rest, but he was worried when at 2:00 in the afternoon Ashley still hadn’t left the cabin.
Geoff went to check on Ashley and she appeared to be fast asleep. He tried to wake her up and was horrified when Ashley was unresponsive. As Geoff later told the news, "And I kind of touched her on the face and I was like, you know, baby, baby, what's going on, you know. And her eyes were shut and I was kind of like trying to open her eyes a little bit and she wasn't responding. And I just started freaking out."
Geoff immediately called the ship’s emergency services. "…My girlfriend's not breathing. I don't think she's breathing. Please come help…"
In 3 minutes, a nurse arrived and started CPR. An emergency broadcast summoned the ship’s doctor, who arrived at 2:12 and found Ashley cold and unresponsive with no pulse. While the medical team tried to save Ashley, Geoff made another horrifying discovery. Some of the methadone and five Vicodin pills were gone. He immediately told the doctor. After CPR attempts failed, Ashley was pronounced dead that day at 2:45.
The FBI investigated the case. Ashley’s autopsy confirmed that she died of the drugs in her system. Tests were run on Ashley’s hair that confirmed that she hadn’t done drugs before the fatal dose, further indicating that this was not a recreational use with accidental overdose. There were no defensive injuries or physical trauma that would have been present had someone forced Ashley to take the drugs. Since she never would taken them recreationally and fully understood how dangerous they were, the only reason she would have done this was to commit suicide.
An abortion and the mental health effects it caused cut two young lives short. Other suicides after abortion include Haley Mason, Stacy Zallie, Carol Cunningham, Jade Rees, Emma Beck, 15-year-old Ashli Blake, 18-year-old “Sandra Roe”, 15-year-old Sandra Kaiser, Jiah Khan and 19-year-old Arlin Dela Cruz.

BLOGTOBER 10/27/2022: MATANGO
Tumblr media
Ishiro Honda's relentlessly grim, genre-bending thriller about mutant mushroom people issued me a challenge that I may have failed: Once the dangerously addictive mushrooms and their hybrid-human progeny arrived in the film, I rapidly lost my ability to think about anything else going on in the story. Much of MATANGO is a grimy, downbeat survival horror narrative about a group of people stranded on a desert island, a circumstance that causes their humanity to fall away, as does the malignant fungus that is their only source of food…and like, I don't mean to cast aspersions on the compelling script or any of the fine performances in this film, but I very much relate to the compulsive desires of the hungry cast of characters: More mushrooms! MORE MUSHROOM PEOPLE!
Tumblr media
I'd put a spoiler alert on this review (if you're reading it on Letterboxd then I actually did), but when a movie starts out with someone reflecting on their experience from a mental institution, you already know it's going to get dark. Sensitive university professor Kenji Murai (Akira Kubo) reflects on the events that left him in such a place, beginning with an ill-fated outing on a yacht belonging to arrogant celebrity Masafumi Kasai (Yoshio Tsuchiya). The passengers are a mix of spoiled intellectuals and entertainers who stand in stark contrast to the sneering, fed-up crew of the ship, and the obvious tensions between them all boil over quickly when a storm strands them on a remote island where food is scarce. They take up residence in a beached spy ship that holds evidence of an experimental fungus which, it soon becomes clear, is slowly taking over the island, causing madness and mutation in anyone who dares to take a bite. This gang would have had no trouble turning on each other in any case, but the mushroom madness certainly doesn't help.
Tumblr media
Make no mistake, there's a lot going on in MATANGO subtextually: The hapless survivors are ultimately the victims of international espionage efforts that spawned the killer fungus, which identifies war as the ultimate culprit, much as it is in Ishiro Honda's masterpiece GODZILLA. In fact, it's worth mentioning that the film was nearly banned in its homeland due to the resemblance of some of the mid-mutation makeup to the disfiguring injuries of atomic bomb survivors; even if this was coincidental, it's pretty affecting. There is also a lot to say about class tensions in MATANGO, as hostilities mount between the yacht's passengers, who get to think and play for a living, and the sailors who enable their pleasure cruise. Honda has further noted that the 1963 movie reflected on the rise of a drug-fueled counterculture, using the all-consuming mushrooms as a general-purpose metaphor for the ravages of addiction. But all that said…you gotta love the mushrooms. They're so great.
Tumblr media
Production designer Shigekagi Ikuno (also responsible for the beautiful LAKE OF DRACULA) does a handy job of entrapping the viewer in the claustrophobic, mold-caked world of MATANGO, and he's at his best in the psychedelic mushroom forest at the heart of the island. Conceptual artist Shigeru Komatsuzaki completes the picture with his fabulous mutant designs, perhaps a little too well, as once I laid eyes on them shambling across the set, they took up all of my attention. They're just so cool-looking, plus who wouldn't want to live in their funky little forest with the fairy lights all around it? Actually, the one thing that's missing from MATANGO is an explanation of the disadvantages of turning into a mushroom. When we eventually return to the mental institution where the sole survivor resides, he ruminates on whether he shouldn't have just given in and stayed on the island. (He also makes some salient remarks about his own moral failings that may be reflective of Ishiro Honda's dim view of human nature, but I won't spoil them here) Everybody there seemed to be having a good time; sure, they were high on shrooms, but maybe permanently tripping and leaving humanity behind isn't such a bad thing. The vampy Kumi Mizuno looks like she really enjoyed her psychotropic snacks, which were made from rice pastry for the production by a local shop who added fun flavors just because they liked the actress so much. The attractive colors and the look on her face when she ate them really made me want one. Hell, I want one right now!

Phoebe Fisher was a short, middle-aged woman with pale skin, dark blonde hair, and gray eyes. She wore a simple pink sundress, sandals, and black-framed glasses.
Synopsis
Phoebe was the victim of The Death Boat. She was a ship auditor conducting an audit of the Pacific Princess. However, Phoebe had a malicious plan in mind when she boarded the ship for the cruise. She planned to sabotage the crew by stealing and planting drugs around the boat, making it look like the staff had smuggled them. She did that because, for every ship that she discovered was unfit to sail, she received a large bonus.
She had already done this in the past to Captain Kacy Keller and her ship, stripping the woman of her rank so she would never sail as a captain again. But Phoebe hadn't planned for Kacy to be on board with her, so she thought she would get away with her evil scheme.
But Kelly got wind of the audit from Captain Merrill Stubing and knew she had to save her friend's ship and crew from Phoebe. Kacy confronted Phoebe the night after they set sail, begging her not to sabotage the audit.
Sadly, greed was strong in Phoebe, and all she cared about was her bonuses. She didn't care that she would be running innocent people's lives or marooning one of the world's most popular cruise ships; she loved money and wanted more.
When Kacy realized that Phoebe wouldn't listen to reason, she decided the only way to save the Pacific Princess was to take out the threat. She found a spear gun and waited for Phoebe to come to the lido deck early the following day. Phoebe arrived at the deck unaware of the danger awaiting her and prepared for a dip in the jacuzzi. But when she started to climb into the hot tub, Kacy fired the spear gun, and the bolt priced Phoebe in the heart, killing her instantly.
Phoebe's body floated in the jacuzzi until it was discovered by Adalet, Fili, Ahmet, Captain Stubing, and Julie McCoy. Soon, the investigation would lead them to discover Phoebe's plans to destroy the crew of the Pacific Princess, and while Kacy would be arrested for her crimes, she was happy to know that her friend wouldn't suffer the same fate she did at Phoebe's hands.

Character Information: Jitil
Name: Jitil
Rank: Officer
Designation: Gold
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Affiliation: T̸h̶e̴ ̵G̴o̷v̶e̸r̷n̸m̵e̷n̸t̵ The Fungle
Cause of Death: Burnt Alive
Personality:
Jitil is gruff and full of rough edges. About the only person he has a soft sport for is his younger twin Odil. Jitil will do what needs done, even if it’s something hard to do. He does however (thankfully) have a rather strong moral compass.
Story:
The older twin, Jitil was born a few minutes before his sister Odil, and he rather enjoys holding that over her. However, the two of them were placed into the foster system at a young age when their parents were arrested for drug smuggling. Jitil fought to stay with his sister, and would happily terrorize whatever fosters had tried to separate them.
Thankfully, neither of them ended up on the streets, however they did eventually age out of the system. Jitil, the muscle of the pair, agreed easily when his sister suggested they join the military. He rather excelled with the structure provided, and (thankfully), the two were allowed to remain together as they went through training.
As they finished their first enlistment period, they decided to attend Officer Training Camp, and they spent some time there. When the war against the Imposters broke out, the siblings, with nothing tying them to the planet, shipped out to space to fight against the aliens.
The siblings hopped from ship to ship, heading exploration missions to try and locate the Imposters home planet. However, they were eventually reassigned to Polus after their failures to find a planet of Imposters. They served under Commander Olo, and grew close to the man who acted as a father figure to them.
Jitil spent a lot of his time working with Rynn on the weapons systems, as well as patrolling the base and making sure that the wiring was kept in shape.
After the war ended, and the soldiers were recalled to Earth, Odil and Jitil were split up for the first time in their military career. Jitil was assigned to some more mundane missions, escorting officials and overseeing transfers. He later was moved to some Toppat missions, however he was generally working on separate cases from his sister.
Eventually, Jitil was placed on a mission with his sister and Olo once more, transporting a prisoner overseas to a space base where she would be taken offplanet.
However, the cruise liner was attacked by a long-range Toppat missile, and Jitil found himself on a tropical island along with his sister, Olo, the prisoner, and a handful of civilians. Let us not forget that said island was also inhabited by a parasitic mushroom that was spreading across literally everything that moved (and even the stuff that didn’t).
Thankfully, Jitil and Odil managed to resist the Fungle for quite a while, however eventually the Commander was infected, and Jitil, although he hated it, knew that something would need to be done. He aided his sister in killing the thing that had taken over Olo’s body, however that was the last push the Fungle needed to infect them.
Jitil set what little of himself that he could to cleaning the Commander’s body, wanting to bring him home and knowing the Fungle would allow it so long as bringing the Commander home also allowed the Fungle to spread.
However, their plans to bring the commander home were foiled when a flame-happy criminal set them all alight, and Jitil died in the only manner he would have accepted. Alongside his sister doing his best to keep her safe.

Review: We Ship It
Tumblr media
Synopsis:
This rom-com debut has the fierce girl energy of the movie  Booksmart,  blended with the awkwardness of Kelly Quindlen’s  Late to the Party,  topped with a thrilling international meet-cute a la  Love and Gelato. Olivia Schwartz has a plan. It’s even color-coded. And the plan is a perfect SAT score, a prestigious college, and a straight path towards her dream of becoming a doctor. The last thing she wants to do—the summer before her senior year of high school, no less—is go on a cruise. Especially with her parents, younger brothers, and all the unspoken things between them since her older brother’s death so many years ago. Then Olivia meets Sebastian. He’s everything she’s charming, exciting, willing to take risks and run with them. For the first time, Olivia feels like she can have  fun... But there’s a lot bubbling up under the surface on this cruise, and when past secrets begin to come to light, Olivia must face all the truths that she’s ignored about herself, Sebastian, her brother, the past she  thought  she understood, and the future she’s always planned.
Plot:
Olivia Schwartz is Type A to the max. With her fifteen-year plan for how to become a cardiac doctor by the time she was 30, Olivia needed a way to stand out even more than her 99% percentile perfect SAT score. Entering a research contest with her friend, Olivia was flabbergasted when her parents sprung a last-minute cruise on her. Finding herself on what is essentially a floating city, The Regal Island SS NY Sea, is a seven-day cruise around the tropics, to give the family a long-needed vacation. This cruise is special due to its children zone which provides personal aid for Olivia’s younger twin brothers who are on the autism spectrum. Even though Olivia is probably more qualified, given the amount of research she has done for them. After losing her older brother days before her eleventh birthday from a heart attack, Olivia has become a doomsday bomb, always looking at the worst-case scenarios for the twins, and herself. Thus, why do her parents think she needs a cruise, even inviting her childhood friend, Jules along with her family - thinking this will be good for Olivia. Jules is not like Olivia expected, into drugs and always has a flask on her, Jules insists they find themselves a crew to hang out with for the week. Meeting the boys, Olivia was instantly drawn to Sebastian. A fellow music lover, Sebastian was a dreamboat of a guy, interested in Olivia for her brain, and allowed her to talk about Logan, the brother her parents seem to have forgotten. Sebastian challenged Olivia to take the risk and live in the moment, something Logan would have also wished for her to do. With a cruise expedition to a shipwreck site off of Antigua, a country Logan promised to take her to one day, Olivia realizes there's more than this ship can offer besides cheesy NYC stuff and expensive expeditions. It offers the opportunity for love, to live in the moment, to connect to her past, and experience heartbreak for the first time.
Thoughts:
Lauren Kay starts their writing career with this banger of a YA novel. Taken from the first-person perspective of Olivia, we get a courageous smarty-pants, who despite always thinking of the worst outcomes, is trying to give life a change. Within this story, we kind of get two Olivias; Olivia who is dealing with the emotions of her family life, and trying to ensure that she does not forget Logan, despite feeling like her family has. Using her future in a way to save him, as her reason for becoming a doctor is to figure out what killed Logan at such a young age. This family dynamic and family history made the story emotionally interesting, although I wish Kay gave us more Logan stories throughout the novel. It seems as if Olivia only reflected on him a bit throughout the novel, where more history about their relationship could have made it more emotionally devastating, as Kay kind of breezed through the depression that Olivia probably went through for years after Logan’s death. Plus the issue of feeling like her parents replace Logan with the twins? So much more emotion could have come out of that. Now the second Olivia (aka Liv) is our love-at-first-sight, romantic girl, who after three days on the cruise with Sebastian, was calculating how they could make a long-distance relationship work. My girl, Olivia, come on! You hardly know the guy, a statement Jules thankfully said throughout the novel. In a cringy way, we got to see Olivia fall hard for a guy she barely knows, and despite his winning personality, he made her open up while keeping himself closed. The love bomb was real, but so was Olivia not being able to read signs, and where it was entertaining to read, you honestly just felt bad for our naive girl for falling hard for a player. With these two Olivia storylines running parallel, it made the book an easy read, and where I do not dock Kay for these typical plot points, I just wish she dove more into the emotional side of the family more, and a little bit less on the perfection Sebastian in Olivia’s eyes.

Bribe case: Wankhede showing SRK chats as 'integrity certificate', says CBI; HC grants interim relief
The CBI recently filed an FIR against Wankhede for allegedly seeking a Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing the Bollywood star's son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case.
Tumblr media
MUMBAI: Former NCB zonal director and bribery accused Sameer Wankhede is trying to show the alleged messages exchanged with film superstar Shah Rukh Khan as a ‘certificate of integrity’, the CBI told the Bombay High Court on Monday.
The High Court is hearing a petition of Wankhede, who is accused of seeking Rs 25 crore as bribe from the actor for not implicating his son Aryan in the Cordelia cruise ‘drug bust’ case.
A vacation bench of Justices Abhay Ahuja and MM Sathaye on Monday extended till June 8 the interim protection granted to Wankhede in the case.
Last Friday, the court had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation not to take any coercive against him till May 22.
Citing the messages exchanged with Khan, Wankhede, in his petition, has claimed the film superstar had no grievance against him and had requested that he be kind to his son Aryan Khan.
Wankhede further claimed the actor had not only praised his integrity “but has also expressed his anguish over the political involvement in the matter”.
Referring to the chats, Wankhede, in his plea, claimed the tone of Khan’s messages would have been completely contrary had he (Wankhede) raised demands for money for releasing Aryan Khan.
During the hearing on Monday, the CBI, represented by advocate Kuldeep Patil, submitted that those requests (referring to the messages exchanged between Shah Rukh Khan and Wankhede) were made by a father (Khan) whose young son (Aryan) was in his (Wankhede) custody.
Wankhede is trying to show them (messages from Khan) as a “certificate of integrity”, CBI advocate Patil told the court.
Opposing the continuation of interim protection to Wankhede, advocate Patil said the order may come in the way of arrest or any action that the CBI may want to take, adding the order (interim protection) cannot be indefinite when the probe is underway.
Patil also sought time to file the CBI’s response to Wankhede’s plea.
Advocate Abad Ponda, appearing for Wankhede, argued the officer was investigating a “very serious case” and was trying to clean the system.
Ponda was referring to the Cordelia cruise ‘drug bust’ case of October 2021 in which Aryan Khan was arrested.
Ponda told the court then NCB Deputy Director Gyaneshwar Singh had been apprised of every step of the probe.
Ponda said the “backbone” of the CBI’s FIR against Wankhede “is flawed” as it didn’t follow the provisions mandated by law.
The case was “illegal and bad in law” and the idea was to ground an “honest officer who stood against the tall and mighty”, Ponda said.
The court, after hearing both sides, extended Wankhede’s interim protection subject to the condition that he shall not publish any material through WhatsApp or any other mode related to the case or investigation or give press statements or tamper with evidence.
The court asked Wankhede to give an undertaking to this effect.
Wankhede was also directed to appear at the investigation agency as and when he is called by the concerned officer.
The HC directed the CBI to file its response by June 3.
The matter will be next heard on June 8.
The CBI recently filed an FIR against Wankhede for allegedly seeking Rs 25 crore bribe for not framing the Bollywood star’s son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case.
On a complaint by the NCB, the CBI booked Wankhede and four others for alleged criminal conspiracy and extortion threat as well as under the Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged bribery.
As per the CBI, the NCB’s Mumbai Zone received information in October 2021 related to the consumption and possession of narcotics substances by various individuals on the private cruise ship Cordelia, after which some of its (NCB) officers conspired and obtained undue advantage in the form of bribes from the alleged accused.
Aryan Khan was arrested by the NCB on October 3, 2021 after a raid on the cruise ship.
He was granted bail by the Bombay High Court after three weeks as the NCB failed to substantiate its charges against him.

Vancouver
May 20
Woke nice and early with the ship having already docked in Vancouver. Up for breakfast for the last time - a big fry-up and plates of fruit to set us up for the day.
Disembarked from the Konigsdam after a lovely cruise and put our cases into a baggage store to explore the Chinatown and Gastown areas, near to which we had booked an apartment that we would be able to get into mid-afternoon. Strolled into Gastown and saw the famous steam clock which toots like a locomotive every 15 minutes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stopped for a refreshing drink before heading into Chinatown through through the ornate gates. Not quite what we expected - not bustling at all, even on a Saturday afternoon, and looking a little bleak. That was nothing though to what we encountered next.
We walked up to East Hastings Street, where our apartment was, to find large groups of homeless drug takers gathered on the street..
We were horrified at the sad sight of scores of people taking hard drugs in public, with many of them already in a zombie-like state and some hunched over or laying flat out as though they were unconscious or even dead. They were on every street corner, living among piles of rubbish, as we made our way towards our flat. We had never seen such a sad or squalid sight on all our travels and were really shocked by it.
The drug users did not reach as far as the apartment but it was enough to put us off. We went into a bar to decide what to do, and the barman told us drug users often came down to that area at night and that it was unsafe to walk along side streets after dark.
We emailed the flat owner saying we wanted to cancel with a full refund because her description of the area said you could enjoy lively strolls into Gastown, which was obviously not the case. No immediate response to that or to an answerphone message so we rang the owner's manager who was very difficult to understand in a noisy bar because she had a strong Japanese accent but said the owner couldn't cancel the contract herself because our money was held by the booking agency and we needed to contact them.
Not very good when the agency's website said we should give the owner 24 hours to resolve a complaint before they stepped in. For us, the clock was ticking to decide what to do that night. We were just considering whether to stay in the flat for one night before being able to get the agency involved when the owner - whose cancellation policy said we would lose all our money if we cancelled at the last minute - emailed to say a full refund had been sent to us. Quite a relief!
There wasn't a lot of alternative accommodation available but Trish managed to find a hotel apartment on Robson Street less than a block from where we stayed before going on the cruise.
We celebrated by walking back to the better end of Gastown and having a drink and a very late lunch of mussels for Mark and bam bam prawns for Trish.
Tumblr media
Reclaimed our bags and checked into our hotel for a lovely soothing bath. Walked to Granville Street in the evening for something to eat but the bars were all playing really loud music - not good for our frazzled nerves!
Instead we walked closer to our hotel and found a lovely little noodle and rice bar where we had large plates of piping hot and very spicy food. Delicious!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bought a bottle of wine to take back to the hotel to round off a very eventful day!

Now an official named Vishwa Vijay Singh, the superintendent of the NCB, has been fired. As per her suspect appearance in The Death Boat, it is known that Kacy wears sunscreen, reads Kitten Magazine, and drinks Piña Colada.
Synopsis
Kacy Keller was the killer of Phoebe Fisher in The Death Boat. She used to be a ship captain before being unfairly stripped of her stripes and forced to disembark her ship, the Atlantic Prince. After that, she struggled to find work she enjoyed doing as she longed to sail the seas again.
She never forgot about the woman who stole her captain stripes from her. For a long time, Kacy believed that it was her crew's fault that they failed the ship audit, but one day she discovered the truth. A fellow Captain told her how the same thing had happened to them and that Phoebe had been the one to plant the drugs on the ship. But without proof, there was nothing the Captain could do to save their ship.
Kacy didn't believe in coincidences and knew that this meant Phoebe had failed her ship to get the audit bonus. Kacy began keeping tabs on the woman, fearing she would continue her greedy tirade. And her stalking paid off when she got wind that Phoebe was scheduled to audit Captain Merrill Stubing's ship.
Stubing was a long-time friend of Kacy's and one of the only people who believed in and supported her dream of Captaining a ship. So when Kacy heard about Phoebe's up-and-coming audit of the Pacific Princess, she knew she had to stop her from taking her friend's ship.
Kacy boarded the same cruise as Phoebe and confronted the woman about her plans. Phoebe laughed in Kacy's face, openly admitting to sabotaging her ship's audit for money. But she refused to stop her plans to fail Stubing's boat and told Kacy there was nothing she could do to stop her.
But Kacy was willing to do anything to save her fellow Captain and his ship, even kill. She stole a speargun from the ship's cargo hold and hid on the lido deck to wait for the perfect time to attack Phoebe. She knew Phoebe enjoyed early morning soaks in the jacuzzi, so she hid behind the bar until the time was right.
When the moment came to kill Phoebe, Kacy shot the harpoon bolt at her, pricing the woman in the heart. She watched Phoebe's body fall into the water, and her blood turned the liquid deep red. Phoebe never saw the attack coming and died before she hit the water.
Kacy knew she wouldn't get away with the murder, but she was proud of herself for stopping Phoebe's tirade. She knows others wouldn't understand why she did what she did, but all that mattered to her was that no more Captains would unfairly lose their ships and crews. And so, once the ship returned to port, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her crime.
Story Information
First appeared: The Death Boat
Trivia
Her surname is a pun on the word "killer." An IRL friend came up with it after I asked for suggestions for names to give a killer. She was very proud of her pun
Her surname is pronounced key-ller, not kell-er; it's supposed to sound like you're saying killer
I couldn't find anything usable for a quote even though she does talk, just not a lot in the chapter!
Her old ship, the Atlantic Prince, is a play on the boat Pacific Princess, which is the location of the murder
