The violence intensified following the disappearance of three women and three children from the Meitei community after a clash between security forces and suspected Kuki-Zo militants in Jiribam on November 11. The clash resulted in the deaths of 10 insurgents. The bodies of the missing six individuals were discovered over the past few days, exacerbating tensions. Since May 2023, ethnic violence between the valley-based Meitei community and the hill-based Kuki-Zo groups has claimed over 220 lives and displaced thousands of residents across the state.
