governor ivenci being almost comedically written to be the unlikable slimy politician who doesn't like the Super Cool Rogue Team that is constantly undermining the system that it actually kind of operates and functions as basically a group/mafia that rules by fear but, like, in a cool way. and ivenci has zero redeeming qualities from the writing and we the player are meant to see them as ineffectual and without merit. because the game thinks the crows are super cool and so therefore we think the crows are super cool. without question. no nuance. close enough welcome back mass effect ambassador udina.

Haven't quite finished s2 yet. Overall really enjoying it, however not a big fan of the fast burn wesper.

All of their scenes in the book? Gone lol. No pining or emotional moments. No 'just girls?' or really any of their meaningful or iconic scenes from the books. I get that it's a different kind of adaptation and they can't add everything, but some would have been nice.

How come the other couples get their slow burn pining but not them??

thinking about the bi options here, ive decided:

(basic) edwin's confession helps charles realize he's bi and in love with him, they kiss on-screen (cute but i realized its amatonormative and pretty cookie cutter)

(worse) charles actually isn't bi and they have separate romantic melodramas (maintains the friendship > romance anti-amatonormative angle but at the cost of charles being bi, which won't do)(also this is a cw style melodrama so theres still amatonormative stuff happening regardless)

(the actual best option) edwin's confession helps charles realize he's bi but he's still not in love with edwin (literally no downside here)(recovering pining coupled with unrequited guilt its delicious to me)(get to do an entire arc where charles gets a crush on some other boy and has to keep it secret because he doesnt want to disappoint his best friend)(edwin eventually finds out and is so sad his best friend didn't let them celebrate his queer awakening together)

Also I apologize for disappearing off the internet for a little while and I think this little fic will be a good way to ease myself back into writing!

IT'S SO LOVELY LOVING YOU

"You're crazy, the matcha one is the worst flavour!" My tone holds an incredulousness, as I eye the bottle of Ramune soft drink in Tokio's grasp. "We did not go out of our way just for you to buy the worst flavour imaginable"

I scrunch my nose in faux disgust and he rolls his eyes at my dramatics, being far too used to my personality by now. I reach into the small drinks fridge myself and pull out a bottle with a watermelon label, smiling in satisfaction that they have my favourite flavour. The glass is refreshingly cold in contrast to the warmth of the afternoon.

"Well, kiss goodbye getting that thing open then because I'm not helping you" Tokio's voice comes out in it's usual rasp, plucking the drink from my hands and heading to the counter to pay for both of our drinks. I gape at his response, putting my hand over my chest in feigned offence.

"Screw you, what kind of boyfriend are you?" I tsk softly, offering a small smile to the cashier as I follow him out of the convenience store and onto the empty seaside path. The small chime of the doorway sings and the heat of the afternoon hits me once we exit the small building.

"The kind that just paid for your drink" He slows his steps so we are in sync, his hand fiddling with the plastic around the rim of the bottles.

"Okay, Mr. Bare minimum" My voice is sarcastic and a giggle escapes my lips at the chuckle that leaves him. His eyes wander over the railing and towards the sunset, I follow his gaze and breathe a sigh of content at the gorgeous sight.

The sky is painted in golden yellows and rich oranges, there's something so captivating about it. But as our stroll slows, my eyes flicker to his face. The way his features are bathed in this godly light, his dark hair sitting against his forehead and how he looks so serene in this moment. It's like a reminder of how in love I am with him. I look away softly as his head begins to turn to look at me, breathing in the smell of sea salt that's carried in on a gentle breeze. Though I can't see his face, I can tell he's having the same moment that I just did and the thought makes my heart race in my chest.

"Here" Tokio's voice is gentle and quiet. My gaze returns to him as a distinct 'POP' comes from his hands, He extends the now open drink towards me with his usual soft grin.

"Aw, I knew you loved me" I respond with a giggle, taking the cold drink from his hands and taking a small sip. I smile softly in joy at the taste, glancing over at Tokio as he does the same with his own beverage. I also catch the way he playfully rolls his eyes once again, it makes me giggle against the rim of the bottle.

"I feel like I've made that pretty obvious" His words hold the familiar weight of truth, even when his tone is teasing. I look towards him with slightly pursed lips.

"Hm, have you?" My gaze returns forwards and my finger taps my chin in pretend thought. In my peripheral, I watch as Tokio whips his head in my direction, his expression full of disbelief.

Before I can react properly, I feel his lips press against my cheek in a firm, yet natural, kiss. I turn to face him as he pulls back with a smirk, my hand raising to touch the spot on my cheek.

"Wow, not even a proper kiss" I whine softly, giving him a doe eyed look. He simply looks out towards the sunset again.

"Not with that attitude" He steps grow faster and I jog lightly to catch up. Giggling as I try to reach him, he simply dodges my hand reaching towards his back and suddenly he's running and I'm sprinting after him.

His laughs harmonize with my own and I lose myself to this moment, something about how I always feel like I'm floating when we interact. Just simply from feeling his touch or hearing his voice, it sets me between a state of ease and joy. Maybe there's something so simple that it's complex about those feelings, and maybe there is no average answer.

JACK WOLFE WAS IN THE WITCHER??

One of my favorite things about Will Save the Galaxy for Food (now that I've listened to it like 10 times lol) is that all of the main characters think they're in different kinds of stories.

Mr. Henderson thinks they're in a romance novel. He gets that impression from the first moment he sees McKeown and Warden in a room together, and immediately becomes the antagonist. Just one glance and he knows that McKeown is going to shake up Warden's life enough that getting her off his payroll is the best possible thing he could do.

Warden is, reluctantly, pulled into what she also thinks is a romance novel. She spends the first third of their adventure being the sci-fic adventure deuteragonist, and the last two-thirds trying to be the love interest before she finally realizes McKeown doesn't like her back. Henderson probably colored her view on the matter, frankly, but that's thrown back in her face when Jacques basically tells her to go to therapy after she asks him for sex. She backs off afterwards, but her looking at McKeown in excitement after blowing off Henderson's leg was one last bid to be the love interest - instead, Jacques is freaked out, quickly taking the gun out of her hands. She stays on Salvation Station and he goes back to Luna.

Daniel thinks he's in a teen romance movie where he's the main character, and Jemima thinks she's in a teenage coming-of-age novel where she's the main character. Daniel awkwardly trying to impress her while Jemima tries to impress the adults around her is a nice contrast of character. He mostly only cares about the space adventure because he can show it to her, while she is truly in awe of what she can see through the spaceship window.

But Jacques is the main character, he's the one narrating the events, and he is gonna keep this shit squarely in sci-fi adventure/comedy whether you like it or not.

The second book, Will Destroy the Galaxy for Cash, was the exact reverse, where Jacques was desperately trying to keep it in sci-fi comedy/adventure for the first half, while every other character was in a heist story. The second half of the book is everyone (including Jacques) trying to make it out alive of the straight-up sci-fi adventure that they wound up in.

Halfway through the book, however, right before it transitions, Jacques snaps - there's a reason why he has to be the space hero in a sci-fi adventure, because if he can't be the space hero, then he's gonna be the space villain. He gets his head back on straight in time to lead his coworkers out of the deadly situation they fell into, but Jacques as a person fundamentally cannot exist in a situation where he is not the hero defining the story's genre.

It's incredible that the central conflict of the story is Jacques (or more accurately, the man calling himself Jacques) pretending to be a novelist that writes sci-fi adventure stories. The man pretending to be Jacques didn't write the books in universe, but he has to be the one telling the story to us, the audience. He has to be the good guy, the perfect protagonist, who may do wrong things sometimes but only in the pursuit of justice. Because if he isn't... then he has to be evil. He has to be completely in the wrong.
