Cathedral Radio. Interlocking / double filet crochet. #3 (tan) and #10 (black) cotton crochet thread, 2.75mm hook.
I did this in a marathon session yesterday, which I wouldn't exactly recommend! That gauge is also not perfect. Doing it again, I would either size down for a stiffer fabric or size up for smoother lines and more "relaxed" fill areas, but this would look perfectly nice with proper blocking and/or hanging rods.
Post stitches forming the outlines around the speaker holes make a really nice recessed texture, though I wouldn't use them again on the leftmost edge, where they just make things muddy.

*I'm following a crochet pattern for a little potion bottle, which has ~350 stitches in color in the body which i'll be taking the percentages of this poll to color it! I'll be following the pattern for Amor the Love Potion from Melanie Morita's book "Hooked on Amigurumi" if you're interested in following along

Surely there is no way this will go wrong at all
#mine#art in progress#I'm prepping for next years temperature blanket while I'm still in fucking July for the one from this year#Yes the pattern is going to change based on the phase of the moon; the hours of daylight; and the high and low temperature#and the stitch for the row will also change if it rains; snows; is foggy; etc#this project is going to humble me in regards to my ability to do basic math I can already tell#the moon phases are already filled in since that's a pretty predictable value#I'll fill in the rest as the time comes#also no I'm not making a sample first cause it's more fun this way#the sample tab is just me putting all the data into the most concise form#so it's set up with the temp and number of stitches for each section#I think the hardest part is going to be keeping the moon part in order since I'll have to flip it every other row#I'm still debating if i wanna do this as single or double crochet#fiber arts#crafts#crocheting#temperature blanket

Halloween costume hint:
(The stitch marker and the word that describes this colour-pattern of yarn [or fabric] are 2 more hints.)
#i make no guarantees of finishing in time for halloween tho im going thru a lot rn#i DID finish a second pair of Scream yarn socks today tho!!#i just wanted to give my fingers a little break from knitting socks but i have other halloween sock yarn i plan on working on#(november is halloween 2 for me)#but yeah i saw a sample of yarn using this type of seamless cast on (provisional cast on / circular tubular cast on) last night...#...while half asleep and was immediately like Oh. I HAVE to do that costume idea now.#i flubbed the crochet part bc the way i did it made the stitches twisted when i knitted it...#...and i had to pull out every crochet stitch one by one. lol. but at least i know for next time how i gotta crochet it to be open stitches#also i knit backwards (mirrored) so i was surprised i managed to figure out the tutorial on the first go...#...bc the person filming described their actions instead of just showing it so i only needed to listen. it makes a world of difference to me#anyway. now that i got that started i have been shaking in pain all day i gotta try n shower before it gets too late#apparently my new back xrays show that my back does have an issue. but not on the spot thats hurting lmao.#so i get to do an mri and see a back specialist ughhh. also the pharmacy is refusing to fill pain meds for me. it sucks.#AND i finally got a physical therapy appointment.... for the middle of december.... guys i injured my back and#....have been trying to get in to PT since fucking MAY. its OCTOBER.#like fuck my life man i can barely fucking walk. i can barely take care of myself. the pain had been SO bad since i recently reinjured it#so yeah i gotta try n shower before i pass out from the pain.#knitting#Cori.exe#Image.exe#fiber art#horror#halloween#also like this yarn is the closest i could get to colour accuracy that i have in my yarn bin and i only have 1 skein of it which is perfect#bc it means i get to use up probably the whole skein and it makes a difference in the amount of yarn i need to use out of my bin lol#especially bc what other use am i ever going to get out of one skein of yarn? nothing but socks take one skein.#my worst yarn habit is seeing a cool yarn and then buying just one or two skeins. like thats fine for a hat or scarf...#...but i need to learn to knit and crochet more things. id like to make a sweater at least once in my life lmao#((sweater yarn gets so expensive tho bc u need so much. and we're back to me wanting to reduce my yarn stash))#personal

okay! let's take a look at the Halloween Hootenanny samples and the yarn, thread and hooks I used to make them:
These are all #10 cotton thread (both colours in all cases), all made with a 1.40mm hook except Witch, who got 1.50 because that orchid thread is a bit fine and tends to work up tight. Witch also has a Pinstripe Blanket border with rounded corners, plus an extra sl round (blo), again to make up for the finer thread. Jack-o-Lantern has a Pinstripe Blanket border with square corners; Cauldron Bubbles has Classic Pinstripe, and Eyeball Jawbreaker has Quick "Borderless."
Both of these use #3 cotton thread for Colour B (backgrounds) and #10 for outines. Flying Owl used a 2.10mm hook and has a Pinstripe Blanket border. Black Widow used a 2.75mm hook and has a Floating Border (Colour A only), which didn't work amaaaazing with the finer thread, but I think with repeated washing it'll sort itself out.
Moving up in heft, these both use a lighter-weight cotton yarn for background colours. Scaredy Cat uses fine weight wool for Colour A, was made with a 4.0mm hook and has a Quick "Borderless" border. Witch Finger has #3 cotton outlines; it was made with a 3.75mm hook and has a Classic Pinstripe border, which I have to say just always looks kinda shabby in yarn.
Last are the heavyweight samples. Both have dishrag cotton for Colour B and worsted-weight wool for outlines. Both have Pinstripe Blanket borders, with Ms. Frankenstein modelling rounded corners and Wax Fangs sporting square. 4.0mm hook for both.

Googling a tutorial (any tutorial, I guess) for crocheting a shawl is so weird when you're a leftie, everything is "the wrong way" xd. I have fallen in love with triangle ombre shawls, and while I don't intend to make anything complicated, I did want to try the simplest thing I found (moss stitch). I'm glad my leftie gran showed me how to make a chain ages ago, it was easier.
I'm still not going to learn, I guess, but my doll got a tiny shawl from my trying.
#Having fun#Not crocheting seriously#But giving it a try on a small sample#With whatever I could find at home to try

Tunisian Crochet and hook size
I've noticed that a lot of tutorials suggest going with a larger hook then you would for normal crochet, or at least larger then the label says. One of the reasons for this is that it is supposedly going to help combat the curling many Tunisian crochet stitches is prone to.
Does it really help? I'd say not enough to warrant the suggestion to be followed blindly. The below image shows three samples of Tunisian Simple Stitch. The top one is done with a 4mm hook (which is the suggested on the yarn label), then the middle with a 5mm hook and the last with a 6mm hook. On the sample scale, they curl just the same.
What are the drawbacks on going with a larger hook?
One I see is that if you use a too large hook for the yarn, the right end stitches seem to get sloppier. See image below.
The bottom sample is the one done with a 6mm hook, the middle one with a 5mm hook and the top one is the 4mm hook. To me both the 4mm and 5mm looks decent, but the 6mm looks sloppy.
The left side edge is not as impacted by change of hook size as the right edge is.
The feel is of course also a bit different, the one using a 5mm hook feels thinner and less dense then the 4mm one. The difference in feel is not as noticeable between the 5mm and 6mm sample however.
So what does this mean, which would be the best option?
Well that depends on if you are a tight or loose crocheter, you should always sample and see what works best for you. For me I'm torn between the 4mm and 5mm sample, both works equally well.
None of the samples have been properly blocked so to determine which one to use I would need to do that as well as that would also impact how the finished piece behaves.
In this case, all samples are done with a cheap polyester yarn, using metal hooks.
