Warning!!! World Men’s Handball Championship rant!!!
GUYS!!!!! I’m SO excited because tomorrow (Sun, Jan 29) Denmark will hopefully make World Cup history as the first country to win the Cup three times in a row!!! Not only that but they currently hold the record for most World Cup games in which they were undefeated (again in a row)!!!😀 I will admit that I think the game against Croatia in the Main Round should have been a win as well instead of a draw since there was a lot of messed up sh*t going on. I mean, it looked more like a battle to the death rather than a handball match. First of all, the Croatian players were a bit (a lot) too aggressive in defense, which leads me to my second point: There were at least two times where the referees should have pulled a red card or at least looked at the video in order to determine what the appropriate punishment would be... but it never happened. Let’s look at Mathias Gidsel as an example; he took several hits, slaps, and punches from the Croatian players, one of those (if I remember correctly) was a fist to the chest, JUST below his throat. You can agree with me or not I don’t care, but I’d say that one was just on the about the point of a red card, and if the referees had actually looked at the video then I’m about 83% sure they would have pulled a red card. This all leads to my third point: THEY NEVER LOOKED AT THE VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY, what good is it that they can look at the situations again (not to mention in slow-motion) in order to see what happened and what they might have missed if they’re not gonna use it?!?!?!?! Honestly, I hope the Danes will NEVER have to play a game with those two referees, because they were doing one Hell of a rotten job throughout the entire game.😡
Well, now that I got all of that out of my system, I don’t have much more left to say other than this; I can’t wait to watch the Final, and I wish the best of luck to both the Danish and the French teams, as well as the Spanish and the Swedish teams who will be playing for bronze. Pérez de Vargas (Spain’s preferred goalkeeper) was absolutely incredible yesterday in the Semi-Final against Denmark (Fri, Jan 27). He was a total beast and made some amazing saves... he was actually quite terrifying. Nothing but respect for that man🫡 On another note, Sweden will have to be without their star playmaker, Jim Gottfridsson, who has sustained an injury to his hand (pretty sure he broke it?) and will therefore not be playing. Something that is worth noting is that Gottfridsson was named World Handball Player 2022, so congratulations with that and I hope he’ll be back on the handball court soon.
Well, that’s the end of my rant. If you’re a handball fan like me and love to watch the exciting all-or-nothing-games then catch the World Cup Bronze game and Final on whatever sports channel you have. The Bronze game will be played at 6pm CET and the Final at 9pm CET.

What team do you support and do you watch any other sports?
I recently got into F1 and it's the only one I watch :)
I support Eintracht Frankfurt :D (but also the Croatian national team and occasionally Hajduk Split).
I sometimes watch handball and (I can’t think of the actual term right now-) the 24 hour race at the Nürburgring, so those fancy, expensive and fast cars :)
Who knows, maybe look into F1 again, I used to be into it during 2014/15 when Sebastian Vettel was there!

Croatia Clinched the Third Place After Defeating Morocco 2-1 in A Close Stand-Off
Luka Modric (left) and Hakim Ziyech (right) battling it out for the ball possession (📸 Getty Images via Barca Blaugranas)
For the third place play-offs, Croatia faced Morocco for one more time (after the goalless draw in the group stage), where both teams aimed for revenge. They even treated this match as if they played a final. A more fast-paced play would be expected, where Croatia managed to organize their attacking style better and mostly defended well to clinch their second third-place finish in the FIFA World Cup (after 1998) and their third Top 3 World Cup finish (counting the 2018 runner-up).
Left: The first goal for Croatia from Josko Gvardiol (📸 Associated Press via The Guardian); right: Achraf Dari celebrated his equalizing goal (📸 CTV News)
The first half started at a quicker pace than the group stage with an early scare, where minutes after a chance from Lovro Majer that sent the ball several centimeters off the goal post, there was a little scare when Yassine Bounou almost kicked the ball to his own post. Still, the ball somehow skipped just wide of his post to his relief. Somehow, there were two goals one after another: Croatia opened with a lead where after the free kick, Majer passed it perfectly to Ivan Perisic, and after several things from the middle, Josko Gvardiol subsequently scored the goal from the header; secondly, Achraf Dari scored an equalizer for Morocco because Croatia was unable to track a runner (from the corner), which was managed perfectly with the open space. 10 minutes in, the first half was 1-1 for both Croatia and Morocco.
Mislav Orsic's goal secured the 2-1 lead (then victory) for Croatia (📸 BBC)
Croatia had more on-target chances compared to Morocco in the first half thanks to their more proactive approach in counter-attacking after the equalizer. For example, Luka Modric fired the ball right from the middle and it was saved by Yassine Bounou, which was also preceded by a similar approach from Perisic. On the Moroccan side, Sofiane Boufal had his chance, which went to the sky. The closest chance for Morocco in this half came from Youssef En-Nesyri, where the ball went out from the goal post instead, and so did Hakim Ziyech's chance. Croatia then scored another goal three minutes before the first half was closed, where Mislav Orsic struck the ball in after Mateo Kovacic won the ball from the edge of the box before the ball reached Marko Livaja, which ball ultimately reached Orsic, who executed the move perfectly. This secured the 2-0 lead for Croatia to end the first half.
The second half then began with the Moroccan attempt to counterattack. However, Croatia became even more proactive even at the beginning of the second half, where Orsic tried to score again but the ball ended up being behind the goal net, while Majer tried to hit from the center, but the ball ended up getting out of the field. The Croatian accuracy proved itself by how Nikola Vlasic tried to also score from the middle from afar, but yet to no avail. On the other hand, Morocco also had their chances in this part of the half by Hakim Ziyech, who tried a kick to the penalty box from afar, but it went elsewhere instead.
The defense department had been quite a discourse in the second half, particularly how Croatia tried to keep their position despite the Moroccan counter-offensive efforts, which resulted in another chapter of the out-pressuring contest. Several fouls committed by both teams had them appealing for penalties (example 1, where Josko Gvardiol was fouled by Sofyane Amrabat & example 2, where there was a handball from the Moroccan side trying to defend their position), but it did not go through. In the last pushes, both Croatia and Morocco had their golden chances: for Croatia, Kovacic tried to fire the ball from the penalty box before it got defended by Morocco, while En-Nesyri jumped higher than Perisic to reach the header, but it reached the roof of the net instead of being a late equalizer. The final whistle then blew, hence Croatia successfully clinched third place.
The Croatian celebration in the third place podium during the post-match ceremony (📸 HNS via FIFA World Cup)
For a nation of fewer than 4 million people, being in the Top 4 in two consecutive times (three times in total, including 1998) is an immense achievement in itself. This was affirmed by Andrej Kramaric, who stated that their third-place victory would make them an "all-time hero." On the other hand, the Moroccan coach, Walid Regragui, believed that there were things they should proudly reflect on after this achievement, becoming the best-performing African team to reach the semifinals. This even exceeded their own expectations, but this was not enough: they needed to achieve it more consistently for them to believe that one day, they will be able to win the World Cup. With the never-in-doubt belief shown throughout the competition, who knows?
This completed the 63rd match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The last match of this year's competition will have France v. Argentina, one of the biggest battles: especially, knowing the key players such as Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, respectively. History could go both ways: either the French second consecutive title or Argentina's third overall title (the first after 1986, even). Knowing this open possibility, it is worth seeing what is going to happen tomorrow.

Heey, i see that you are interested in handball... Well month ago I started to play it(again after 9 years) , but i dont really know any teams except croatian national team(im croatian), little embarrassing for 21 year old female, i know... But would you be so nice and recommend me some male and female teams? (i would be more grateful for female teams ahah) thanks in advance
that’s not embarrassing at all! we all have to start somewhere 😊 to be honest with you, i never watch men’s handball but i can recommend you some women’s teams? 😁 my own favourites are győr from hungary and odense from denmark. it’s a bit of an ordeal to watch the danish league from outside of denmark but most of győr’s domestic games are uploaded to this youtube channel. i’d maybe recommend you to start out by watching champions league games – all champions league games are broadcast on ehf’s own streaming service – then you’ll probably find a couple of favourites in no time. the champions league season kicks off in october but until then you can rewatch games from the past seasons 💪

Five things on Ivry - PSG Handball
Barely two days after their European victory over Elverum (35-39), Paris Saint-Germain Handball return to the Lidl StarLigue action, doing battle away to Ivry in Round 5.
Satisfactory starts Apart from the defeat conceded at home to Dunkerque in Round 3 (20-23), Ivry have been getting good results so far this season. This is evidenced by their victory away to Tremblay (24-25) last week, which came thanks in part to six goals from Antonin Mohamed. Their accounts could be could even be better had they managed to deny Saint-Raphaël a draw at home Saint-Raphaël (34-34). On the back foot for a long part of the match, they had managed to recover and could have gone ahead had Walid Badi transformed his penalty at the buzzer. After four rounds, they have two defeats, a draw and a victory. For their part, Les Rouge et Bleu top the table with four wins in four games.
youtube
Face off: Goalkeepers Since the beginning of the season, the both teams’ goalkeepers have been on fire. For Paris, it’s Vincent Gérard who has distinguished himself the most and who tops the Lidl Starligue saves chart with 49 (39% success). In third place, we find Croatian Mate Sunjic, who has already pushed back 45 shots (35%). He was one of the driving forces behind the win in Tremblay, winning 12 of his duels with the THFB’s attacking line. It should be noted that he made exactly the same number of stops against Nantes (30-24) and Saint-Raphaël.
Key stats Defensively, Paris and Ivry are very close – ninth (110 goals conceded) and tenth (111 goals conceded) on the defensive table respectively. It is offensively that Les Rouge et Bleu have been making the difference, with a league-high 151 goals scored compared to Ivry’s 103. An excellent record that comes thanks to several big names, such as club top scorer Kamil Syprzak (22 goals) and Mikkel Hansen (21). Walid Badi, with his 14 goals, is Ivry’s main man in attack.

Head-to-head In addition to the two pre-season match between the sides – both of which went Paris’s way – our side have dominated the recent head-to-head record. Indeed, in 27 league matches, PSG handball have won 21 times for two draws and four defeats. They remain on a run of 13 consecutive successes, form that began on April 28, 2012, after a defeat at the Gymnase Auguste Delaune (32-26). Paris Saint-Germain Handball have also won 9 of their 14 away games against Ivry.

Manchester City 2-0 Dinamo Zagreb: Raheem Sterling & Phil Foden score
New Post has been published on https://thebiafrastar.com/manchester-city-2-0-dinamo-zagreb-raheem-sterling-phil-foden-score/
Manchester City 2-0 Dinamo Zagreb: Raheem Sterling & Phil Foden score
Sterling has been directly involved in 18 goals in his last 16 home appearances in the Champions League for Manchester City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is “so sorry” for Phil Foden after he and Raheem Sterling came off the bench to score in a 2-0 win over a stubborn Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
Sterling swept home from a Riyad Mahrez cross midway through the second half, then set up 19-year-old Foden in stoppage time as City’s second successive win took them top of Group C.
Guardiola said: “He (Foden) has incredible finishing and made an incredible step forward tonight.
“I am so sorry for him – he deserves to play more minutes. I am sure he will contribute and help us more.”
The England squad for the next round of internationals is named on Thursday.
“I am buzzing for Phil Foden,” Sterling told BT Sport. “I want him in the national team. If he keeps going he will be there.”
Foden said: “You have to show the manager what you can do each day in training. Every young kid wants to play but you have to keep patient.”
Man City win, Tottenham concede seven – reaction
In truth, this should have been a much bigger victory, with City wasting a host of first-half chances, but in the end they were grateful to Sterling for making the difference.
Until he broke the deadlock from close range with his ninth goal of the season, it had been an unexpectedly frustrating night for Guardiola’s side, despite enjoying more than 80% of possession.
It was not the case that City struggled to create chances in the absence of the injured Kevin de Bruyne, but they were unable to take them until the second half.
Sergio Aguero was the first to waste an opportunity, with the Argentine rounding Zagreb keeper Dominik Livakovic from a poor backpass but seeing him recover with a diving save.
Bernardo Silva was also off target from two good openings and Aguero skied another effort before Ilkay Gundogan blasted a shot against the bar and David Silva fired wide from close range.
When Aguero did finally get the ball in the net, Dutch referee Serdar Gozubuyuk had already blown his whistle for a handball by Bernardo Silva.
The second half saw Croatian champions Dinamo, who were roared on by their fans throughout, put up more resistance before Sterling replaced Bernardo Silva, and quickly gave City their breakthrough.
More chances followed but it fell to Foden to finish off Zagreb with a fine first-time strike from a swift counter-attack.
It gives City their second successive Group C win and leaves them well placed to make the last 16 for a seventh successive season, while Zagreb have now suffered 13 away group game defeats in a row – a Champions League record.
Guardiola gets the result he wanted
Guardiola spoke before the game about having to “seduce” City fans who are reluctant to fall for the charms of the Champions League, preferring instead Premier League success.
So far, little seems to have changed, the competition’s anthem being roundly booed again inside the Etihad before kick-off providing the main example of that.
The atmosphere after that was far from flat, but this one-sided affair was never going to be a fixture that provided the electricity from the stands that Guardiola craves.
While City’s fans were enthusiastic enough throughout, their passion could never match that of the Zagreb supporters, who chanted throughout and removed their shirts en masse when they fell behind.
Guardiola’s emotions were also on display, with his frustration with the officials evident on more than one occasion as he prowled his technical area.
But he got the result he wanted, with City’s fifth successive win since their shock defeat at Norwich providing more evidence that, if they were ever in crisis, it is now over.
Guardiola hopes De Bruyne will be back soon
Guardiola said after the game that he does not think De Bruyne’s groin problem is serious, which is a rare bit of of good news for City in a season when they have lost Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte to long-term injuries.
De Bruyne missed most of last season through injury and, while City’s domestic treble clearly showed they were able to cope, his nine assists this season have been a timely reminder of his talents.
Without him, City’s midfield were still able to carve Zagreb open easily enough before the break, but you felt they missed the brilliant Belgian more when the away side dug in after the break.
Although City tried to replicate De Bruyne’s dangerous balls into the box, notably through Benjamin Mendy on the left, they were far less effective.
With Mahrez notably quieter than against Everton at the weekend, City did not carry the same threat on the ball in wide areas, at least until Sterling arrived on the scene.
Man of the match – Raheem Sterling (Man City)
Made a difference in attack immediately and should have won a free-kick as soon as he came on when he was fouled on the edge of the area. Guardiola was booked for complaining about that decision, but he was soon celebrating Sterling’s goal.
What next?
City’s next game sees them back at the Etihad to face Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday (14:00 BST).
They resume their Champions League campaign on 22 October, at home to Atalanta (20:00), when Dinamo Zagreb are away at Shakhtar Donetsk (17:55).
Magical Mahrez – the stats
Manchester City have won five consecutive Champions League home matches for the first time.
City completed 626 more passes than Dinamo Zagreb (727-100), also accumulating 71 more touches in their opponents’ box (73-2).
Pep Guardiola has won all three of his Champions League matches against Dinamo Zagreb – his sides have scored nine goals without conceding.
Riyad Mahrez has been directly involved in eight goals in eight Champions League appearances for City (2 goals, 6 assists), with three of those coming this season.
Raheem Sterling has been directly involved in 19 goals in his past 16 home appearances in the Champions League for City (11 goals, eight assists).

This description sums last nights match up perfectly. Luck was on France's side this time, if it weren't for those two unfortunate incidences (meaning the own goal - which in reality came from Griezmann's good diving skills - and the handball leading to a penalty), the outcome could have been drastically different. Either way, Croatia had already won my heart with their sheer willpower and determination, and while I was sad to see them lose in a once in a lifetime opportunity, the joy and happiness of the French team still brought a smile on my face. I also liked seeing Didier Deschamps winning another WC, exactly 20 years later, this time as a mentor.
A few more random thoughts:
How typical that when it started to rain, there was an umbrella ready for Putin immidiately, only when the others had got soaking wet already did they manage to find a few more. That didn't stop the French and Croatian president from displaying such happiness and warmth towards the players of both teams though, which was absolutely adorable.
Also interesting how it started to really pour it down the minute France won - even the skies were feeling Croatia's pain, haha.
Overall, I really enjoyed this years tournament, what a rollercoaster it was. While I love a bit of drama on the field, what I love even more, is seeing players of both teams ultimately being friendly with each other - after all, a lot of them are actual teammates in their daily life. I don't really follow club football, so it'll be a loooong wait until Euro 2020. (oh who am I kidding, it'll go by in a snap)
So France won, but Croatia caught the Snitch.

Euro 2020 - Zlatko Dalic said Croatia has not used 2018 World Cup success in qualifiers
The first conference titled 'All Faces of Sport' was held on Tuesday at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce in Zagreb. Croatia national football team coach Zlatko Dalic was one of the participants. Euro 2020 fans can book England Vs Croatia Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.
“Everything we invest in sports will repeatedly come back to us through better citizens' health and greater productivity at work,” the first conference revealed, which was held on Tuesday at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
"The successes of our athletes in major competitions are disproportionate to the size and population of our country, and if we had as many talented business people as we did athletes, what would our end be," said the Croatian Chamber of Commerce President Luka Burilovic, welcoming the conference participants.
Along with several prominent figures from Croatia’s economic and sports life, the conference was also attended by the coach of the national football team, Zlatko Dalic, who emphasized that we made little use of the great success at the World Cup in Russia. "After the big words and the euphoria of winning second place in the world, we almost did not achieve anything after that, because not only are we nowhere near the construction of a national stadium but today many tourists at Zagreb Advent can’t buy the recognizable checkered jersey anywhere,” Dalic said and concluded that the biggest gains of the World Cup success are the unity of the people and that several young people have started playing football.
Croatian Olympic Committee President Zlatko Matesa said Croatia does not need a national stadium but a functioning football stadium.
"We have national stadiums in Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Pula, Varazdin, Zagreb, and all other cities where the football team plays, and we must use the funds from Europe to build sports infrastructure, as Slovenia did," Matesa said, emphasizing that the halls that were built for the 2009 World Cup in handball are rarely used for sports purposes and are repaid from the funds intended for sports.
Mayor of Split Andro Krstulovic Opara said that Split boasts the title of "the sportiest city in the world and the surrounding area", and allocates 93 million kunas or nine percent of the budget for sports, while the city of Zagreb allocates 11 times more.
Finance Minister Zdravko Maric said that as much as the state invests in sports, it will never be adequate for all the benefits we receive from sports.
"This government has doubled its funding for sports, which will exceed 400 million kunas in the Olympic year. I am aware that by the percentage of allocations we are among the poorest in Europe. Still, nevertheless, we have much more reason to look forward to the success of our athletes than the citizens of countries that are much more dedicated to sports,” concluded Minister Maric.
The chairman of the Zagreb Holding Board Ana Stoic Deban said that the company looks after 160 sports facilities.
"The Maksimir stadium is still far from being built and we will first get new pools in Spansko, Dubrava, and Salata in Zagreb because all the pools have the necessary documentation and contracts for contractors and are in the final stage," said Stoic Deban.
The Vice President of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and one of the organizers of the conference, Mirjana Cagalj, emphasized that sport at the European level generates more than two percent of the GDP and that Croatia is still far from that average.
"We must invest in sports infrastructure, but also to provide a sufficient number of professional people for the development of sports as an industry," Cagalj said.

Is ur family super into sports? I've seen you post a lot of sporty stuff, and if so, which sports are your fav?
YES! My brother almost played for Croatian basketball nt, but he broke his leg so he kinda messed up, but yeah. My sister played soccer, my brother played basketball and karate and I played tennis, handball, basketball and I used to swim.
We are SUPER into sports, I like following everything and I'm proud of our country for having two amazing nts: soccer and handball. Basketball nt could be amazing too because we have a Lot Of Talent, but they are Lazy Bitches Who Don't Care.
I know y'all are like *gasp* but our handball team is second in the Europe, and that's just because they fought, they left their mf souls back there. Orherwise, it's actually not that good, lol.
I'm super into tennis (duh), basketball, handball and soccer! I enjoy watching those sports, truly.
