Based on my personal experience lots of not conventionally attractive people are very hot and just because you have a body that has never been portrayed as attractive in media doesn’t mean people don’t want to fuck you. one of the things i think i'll never get over (everything!!!) is when anne kisses gilbert and he responds with 500% more passion, like this is it, now he KNOWS, now he CAN be as in love & ardent as his heart desires, she is his and he is hers and they belong together and he never wants to let her go holy mama

This though! Listen, I’ve watched that scene (in video and gif form) more times than I’d like to admit. But here’s what I noticed about them individually in that moment.

Kissing, feeling attraction, and receiving romantic love is incredibly foreign to Anne. You can tell she’s so happy, but she’s also slightly hesitant to believe that it’s all true. She’s not quite as bold, and doesn’t take what she wants initially. She just lets herself be moved when he presses into her.  By the second and third kiss, we see her shed her shyness just a little bit, but her focus seems to be on just staying alive in that moment.

Gilbert is a bit different because he’s witnessed a lot of romantic love in his own household, and has cared for Anne for so long that he’s comfortable with it. He welcomes the intensity and the genuineness of his love for Anne. What he’s uncertain about is whether or not she returns it - he really expects her not to, but Diana has given him hope. So his first kiss is hesitant, but you can get hints of This is how I really feel about you and This may be the last time I can do this, I’m making it a good one. As soon as Anne kisses him, though, he’s a shaken bottle that has finally been uncapped. He realizes that she does care for him, and it’s everything everything everything he’s wanted for so long. He doesn’t have to hold back. His eyebrows crease because he’s so intent on letting himself love her the way he wants to. Then the bell rings, and reality settles back in.

been a while since I made that set but here’s the trick to “HD” gifs:

1. get a high quality source - 1080p+ BluRay is good, 720p YouTube is bad. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP!11 2. capture the frames with KMPlayer or a similar program that can capture without losing quality (”import > video frames to layers” works too but is annoying to work with) 3. Use proper dimensions 4. Use Smart Sharpen 5. I use these settings most of the time:

You can lower the Colors value or add Lossy if you want to lower the filesize without destroying the quality too much. I only lower colors since Lossy is generally more noticeable.

deserve, i think, is a concept foreign to our existence. it's just this way because of a certain course of events... who knows if you'd be better off if there was someone beside you... not necessarily a good presence. We all crave for closeness with people who love and accept us. but not many actually get there. just because. no merit attached. *hugs*

Fair. It’s less about companionship, I have friends, I have a girlfriend, I don’t get to see anyone often but I have people in my life. I just don’t have any sense that I belong here. I don’t feel like this is my home, or my world, or my life and that I’m just here by mistake and that I was meant to be somewhere very different. I don’t feel apart of anything, I don’t fit in, I just feel without a tribe in a world of people who bond socially through tribalism.

i've been struggling a bit lately with a lot, and was hoping to get things better by this week and start a new routine and try to get in control of my life and stop things spiraling a bit - but as fate always has it, i've gotten very sick right in time for my plans to get ruined. it's not covid, thankfully, but some kind of nasty respiratory virus and i am not in great shape. hopefully it will pass this week and i can get back to my plans next week

i now have seen complaints that, in the context of the episode's powerful message, gilbert (a mAn) shouldn't have been the one to give voice to anne's words and reveal her perspective to her classmates, that the writing was thus intrinsically hypocritical for that choice. i personally disagree. what do you think?

I personally disagree as well. Here’s the way I see it.

Social change to ensure justice is a combined effort. On one side, you have the parties who fall in the minority, parties who have been systematically oppressed because of unbalanced power systems. These people literally fight tooth and nail for their rights, and deserve all the credit they receive and more (since their efforts are often wrongly downgraded). 

But on the other side, social change needs the solidarity of members of the party privileged with power. These individuals encourage other members of the necessity for change. In this case, it’s Gilbert with other boys and men. 

Anne’s piece spoke for itself. Its message was heard loud and clear, but it wasn’t received by many ears willing to listen. It was written in a state of rage and with words that not many people were ready to hear. I can’t blame her, I’ve written pieces just as angry and just as exhausted with injustice. 

Gilbert in no way stole her words, nor did he even try to steal her thunder. In her absence, he stood beside her words and held people accountable for listening to them. He didn’t want a prize for being “social justice man of the year,” or praise for boldly standing up for women. On the contrary, Gilbert merely repeated Anne’s words, gave her the credit and said, “Whom here disagrees?” The implied subtext was: “Isn’t she brilliant? Isn’t Anne’s piece important?” He encouraged his peers to give her the respect she was due, and once her classmates were over their fears and anger, they turned back to Anne as the leader. In this way, Gilbert allowed Anne to do the talking. 

He also allowed her to take the lead on the anti-censorship demonstration, but stood by her side in the type of solidarity that is vital to social change. His presence didn’t downgrade Anne’s news piece, or take away from the fact that Josie ultimately stood beside Anne. I was really quite proud of Gilbert for standing by Anne, and for going about it in the right way. 

Overall, this is what I believe and it may be a tough pill to swallow for some: we cannot afford to exclude men from feminism. Certainly, the voices of women are first and foremost in all feminist considerations. But there are men who recognize they will never understand what it’s like to be insubordinated or degraded because of their gender. Because of this they cry out for social justice just like we do.They hold other men accountable and model the type of behavior that helps equalize society. They won’t steal our voice, our words, our power. Their solidarity is important to the overall cause. Wouldn’t you want a partner like that? One who respected you and valued you?
