The Strange and Unexplored World of Love

While reading another Robert Chambers short story this morning ("The Tomb of Samaris), I was smote by this passage:

"You talk of pistol range, but you are thinking of something more fatal than bullets, Mr. Burke. You are thinking of love—of the first, great, absorbing, unreasoning passion that has ever shaken you, blinded you, seized you and dragged you out of the ordered path of life, to push you violently into the strange and unexplored! That is what stares out on the world through those haunted eyes of yours, when the smile dies out and you are off your guard..."

It struck me so much that I had to read it out loud to Nate. The first word out of his mouth was "Cresenzo," my character's vampire boyfriend. He was the first character I thought of, as well. Because after over a hundred years alive and decades largely on his own, that Kindred is experiencing the world in new ways.

But more than any single character or story, the passage reminded me of why I prefer romance as an option in my gaming and why I've written about it so much over the years: Simply put, attraction and love change people and inspire them not just to feel but to *do*. Romance can be the point of adventure or act as fuel for other ventures; it can be a strange land as easily as a refuge. Regardless of time or place, love can be worth dying for or be the reason one is determined to live, despite all odds and obstacles.

And while I know it ain't for everybody, it's only become more important to me. I've dealt enough with death and strife, fictionally and otherwise, to savor the sweeter moments in life.

Character Information - Vega Lustirra

While it was speculated in many legends that she was "born" in a stellar nursery or was formed from an even more divine being's tears, Vega had lived a fascinating but mostly lone life. This interdimensional being, that was often referred to as a goddess of protection, fertility, & even the night itself, wouldn't stay in one place for very long. Instead she often went traveling to other worlds & helping those who were less fortunate or were figuratively lost as well as occasionally going into combat. Rarely did she take the time to relax for a long enough time before leaving once again.

She was said to be quite a large woman, being around 12-13 feet in height, while her demeanor was said to be a kind one, despite her usual stoic expression. During her many battles, Vega was said to be quite a serious, daunting strategist, & often used an axe as her main weapon, even enhancing her blows with her powers.

At one point, around 9000 years ago, she eventually discovered the existence of a world hidden away, to which she later named it Maluradizo & was able to figure out that only a select few could come in & out to visit such a dark world. She & her companion often would bring in individuals who wanted a new fresh start into this peaceful world. These people especially grew to praise her & even worship her immensely, despite her not finding such necessary.

But even with knowing what she was like & what she has done, that didn't dissipate the mystery that surrounded her, even to the few that managed to get close. No one was really aware of her past, her dreams, her passions… all of it would be kept under lock & key. Not even her companion at the time, Vladimir Cresenzo, was able to completely figure the goddess out. Many even speculated if she was ever in love & became intimate with anyone or if she had a family of sorts to begin with.

When it came to her imbuing her powers & immortality into a flower (later called the Amaranthine Datura) & later dying during an important affair, it created more speculation.

Some believed that she was mentally unstable. A few who knew the legend of the Amaranthine Datura, speculated that it may not be the only special flower she left behind, even now as her current successor, Kanaria Omorose, doesn't appear to possess all her powers...

Even in death & as things about her are slowly being brought into light, Vega has only produced more questions than answers to those who knew her legends.

Il Porto Azzurro, dopo l'exploit interno, in Coppa con la Campese, rialza la testa e fa suo anche il match delle Venelle contro un buon Rio Marina un po' sprecone, soprattutto sotto porta. I padroni di casa non sono riusciti ad arginare le manovre di gioco degli ospiti lasciando loro gioco facile che al 27' del I Tempo si concretizzava con il vantaggio ad opera di Pacini. Sul finire della prima frazione di gioco, complice un rigore trasformato da Ferrini, le squadre andavano al riposo sul 2 a 0. Nulla o poco è mutato nel II tempo con il Porto Azzurro che ha sostituito Ferraris con Iavita; Boggio (Infortunio) con Pagliuca; Barbadori con Cecchini; Cafiero con Fanetti; Pacini con De Crescenzo.
