Okay, guys, this is your opportunity to buy a house on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, well, the Columbia River, they call it, and it feeds into the ocean, (the pink paint is peeling on the outside - could be the salty air from the ocean - but the inside is remodeled), plus your own crematory business for only $660K. 1892 Victorian home with 6bds, 6ba, (room for everybody), in Astoria, Oregon.

So, this is the business- you have a conference table next to the display wall.

I partly read this book as research for my own story ideas, but also because those things (that other people might think of as macabre) always have interested me.

It's quite fascinating. Doughty talks about how we see and cope with death as well as our misconceptions and stereotypes.

I can only recommend that you read it - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes will answer questions and make you question your perception of death simultaneously.

working in a crematory be like getting a body from the freezer and finding it soaked with blood due to a messed up stitch job after an autopsy, and then shining a flashlight at its skull while a colleague redoes all those stitches around the head. working at a crematory be like having an 58 year old man ask you if he can hug you after you chatted for half an hour with him about the wife he lost - they were together since they were sixteen and he cannot imagine life without her. truly got the two sides of my job today.

Schrutan, Lancer, is a very atypical dragon slayer, in that he isn't altogether all that strong, he doesn't have a particularly good weapon, nor is he noble or valiant in personality. He presents himself more like a merc-for-hire, and one willing to take on dirty jobs at that. Because that's what killing a dragon is, to him; not a valiant fight between hero and demon, just a disgusting slog of bludgeoning a living screaming beast over and over again until it finally stops moving.

The best thing he has going for him is his good combat sense and his willingness to do just about whatever it takes, whether or not it's wrong. His weapon itself is emblematic of how different he is from his fellow dragon slayers; it's a barbed spear soaked through with the toxic blood of a dragon. It's a coward's weapon, the opposite of something like Balmung. His NP is called Drachenblut Verprugeln, or literally "Dragon Blood Bludgeon".

Schrutan is generally disillusioned with the idea of being a hero, heroes are all a bunch of schmucks whose deaths are as comedic as they are tragic. Since he's already at this point, he'll take up the duties one might assign to a hero, but he'll do them his way.

Smokes, drinks, gets into fights (though he isn't usually the one who starts them), he's the picture of a bad role model. And a DILF, for that matter.

If you are looking for a unique, cheap, fixer-upper, complete with a basement crematory, look no further. For only $147K you can get this 6bd. 5ba. home in Oswego, Kansas. Bring the whole gang!  This unique property was built as a hospital on 2 acres- don’t you love the blue stripes? It looks like a modern estate. 

It housed a museum & college in the past as well. Most recently it is a residence. I don’t see how it’s a residence, but this must be the living room.

It's concrete from ceiling to floor, & has been used for the town's storm shelter in the past, so you’ll be super-safe in here.

There are 4 rooms, with a waiting area in the West wing that was an ER. It’s a mansion- it has a west wing just like the White House. Do you think this was the ER? 

There are 15 rooms, 1 full bathroom with 2 nonfunctioning half bathrooms, and an office on the main floor.

Clearly, this is one of the non-functioning baths. What is growing out of that toilet?

Heading up the second story, there are huge closets and 4 rooms with the 2 nonfunctioning full bathrooms.  

The owners have living quarters in the back as well as a workshop.

In the basement, you will find storage space, the old crematory, and access to the new plumbing.
