"I've seen shit that'd make your hair turn as white as mine."
Anthony Mezzasalma is a student at Willowbrook Academy, along with his twin sister Maria, and their older brother Bernardino. He's got a bit of a problem, in that he is very psychic and has been seeing a lot of really freaky manifestations wandering around the school lately. Maybe it's got something to do with that weird new kid, Mr. Morgenstern's daughter.
Or maybe it's that guy, Alastor, the one who's so creepy it's not fair that he's also really cute.
I love my boy

I love it when you talk about movies 🖤 What are the best ones you watched recently?
yayy thank you ^^ here are some ive really liked in the past couple of months
wishing stairs 2003 - most recent film i watched korean ghost/slasher set in an all-girls arts boarding school. the dormitory stairs have 28 steps but sometimes when you count them there are 29. any wish made on the 29th step comes true regardless of who has to die to ensure it
to die for 1995 - mockumentary about small-town weathergirl nicole kidman killing people in her nowhere-town as part of her scheme to achieve petty fame. if you like drop dead gorgeous 1999 at all you’ll like this kidman soo good in it + theres a gratuitous cronenberg cameo
psychic vision jaganrei 1988 - most underrated film on here noo one has seen this. japanese found footage/mockumentary about an idol performing a song her producers gave her not knowing the girl they aren’t crediting for it killed herself. some genuinely fun and creepy ghost stuff + i say as generally a found footage disliker uses the format well
the house of yes 1997 - guy brings his girlfriend home to meet his insular wealthy family, including his unstable twin sister hes been in an incestuous relationship with since childhood. she likes to roleplay jfk’s assassination with him. offputting dark comedy suspense movie
the substance 2024 - if youre on tumblr youve already heard people rave about the substance its fun i really liked it 👍
charade 1963 - audrey hepburn returns from a ski holiday and finds her husband has been murdered + a group of men who think she has the money her husband stole from them chasing her. witty intensely charming genuinely unpredictable probably my favourite audrey

I love love LOVE tdlosk aus where kuriko is actually kusous twin
I have so many head canons for twin saikis and kuriko but it kinda feels like a tdlosk oc
Ima sprinkle some of my cringe head canons :3
-Kuriko is a huge lesbian, I have no real reason for this but because I said so
-She isn't psychic or as smart as her brothers but she is still a bad ass and her and kusou make an amazing duo
-Again not as smart as kusuke but she is still considered a prodigy
-she dresses very tomboyish most of the time but she still let's people dress her up time to time
-the tdlosk girls (teruhashi, chiyo, Mera and aiura) and her would go on do many coffee dates and have so many sleep overs
-She would probably see through teruhashi like her brothers but she would fall head over heels anyway for who teruhashi actually is (KURIKO X TERUHASHI I REAL BC I SAID SO!!)
-Teruhashi x kuriko x imu in a polycule because they are all meant for each other idk
-she would honestly be such a girls girl idk
-her and kusou used to dress up as creepy twins from horror movies to scare their older brother and father when they were kids
-I think kusuke would be just obsessed with her as he is with kusou but maybe not as competitive?
I have more but I think ima gate keep them for a bit longer
#I NEED MORE TWIN KURIKO FAN FICS#i dont have enough#kuriko saiki#tdlosk#the disastrous life of saiki k.#saiki k#saiki hcs#cringe culture is dead#This sounds more like an oc to me but idc

Feel like dumping a couple of facts about my Pokémon OC Madeline because she’s been occupying my brain. Feel free to read more if you wanna know more about her! 👉👈
She is a twin! Unfortunately her sister went missing one day while they were playing hide and seek and has been missing ever since. She was 12 at the time.
She is also a psychic, but not a very strong or skilled one. The most she can do is lift small objects, anything outside of that gives her intense headaches.
Her family is very rich and notable in their regions political sphere. Unfortunately her family life wasn’t great, so she ran away as soon as she turned 18 and cut all contact.
She’s lived in multiple regions taking on lots of different jobs and even speaks multiple languages, though when she moves to Unova and stays there for good.
She is a customer service worker for Nimbasa City’s Gear Station- She’s good enough at it, though she has a tendency to ward off any unruly passengers with some classic hypnotism if she really needs to.
Her special interest in dolls! She has a large collection. Most find it creepy, but she doesn’t care, those are her babies!
Speaking of dolls, she has a shiny Espurr named Dolly, who she dresses up in all sorts of outfits. She was her first Pokémon and very precious to her!
There's tons more besides this but that's all of the more important details about her right now. Of course if anyone ever wanted to know more about her... My ask box is always open...!

Disney comics tend to have negative continuity (I kid you not, when Don Rosa got Grandma Duck as the mother-in-law of Scrooge's sister and Donald's actual grandmother as per Barks' family tree it made HEADLINES in Italy, as local authors had her as Scrooge's sister and Donald's aunt for decades)... But there's three very interesting things authors around the world all agree about Donald Duck:
Donald is a crossdresser. Not in a creepy or weird way, he just likes pretty dresses and has absolutely no problem wearing one if it's the practical solution to a problem (he once borrowed Daisy's clothes and pretended to be her twin sister because the lady had too many obligations). If one takes the Paperinik stories into account it fits with his habit of disguising himself (it's also how Paperinik maintains his secret identity, after the many times Donald Duck "revealed" himself as Paperinik disguised as Donald they all assume Paperinik just wears a Donald mask under the domino mask), but the lack of issues in dressing as a woman and even pretending to be one is a nice touch.
Donald likes strong-willed and powerful women, as shown by all the love interests I know of: Daisy has a side job as a spy for Scrooge (and Donald KNOWS), has a powerful temper, and is one of four known people capable of matching Scrooge's insane work hours (the other three being his first secretary Emily Quackfaster, said secretary's niece and successor with the same name, and his butler Quackmore); Reginella is the queen of the planet Pacificus, chosen by her people for her charisma and skills as a ruler, and when it comes to defend her people summoning a furious Donald is HOLDING BACK (the moment she realized Donald couldn't solve the current emergency and used her full power was one of the scariest things ever put on a comic book, especially for how JARRING it was to have this kind woman do what she did); Xadhoom (from Paperinik New Adventures) was elected president of her homeworld of scientists at a rather young age because she was the smartest of them all, she missed the Evronian invasion allowed by the fact her intelligence didn't mean wisdom because she was off-planet with an experiment intended to solve her world's impending energy crisis, and when said experiment gave her godlike powers and she discovered what happened to her people she assumed the name of Xadhoom (meaning creditor, as the invaders owed her a debt of an entire sapient species) and started hunting down the Evronians with the explicit intention of committing a genocide, also stopping by to help those in need (how she met Donald, she knew some of her people would have tried to forewarn Earth of the Evronian threat, found the Evronians were already preparing an invasion but were wary of Earth's nuclear arsenal, and started culling the invasion force once in a while to prevent a full scale invasion while looking for their base); Lyla Lay (also from PKNA) is the droid assigned by the Time Police to surveil our time, and is one terrifying lady; Juniper Ducklair (from PKNA's sequel) was eventually elected queen of her homeworld of Corona (yes, Donald has three love interests that have been DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED rulers of entire planets) thanks to her sheer psychic might and the discipline she had to not brainwash anyone less powerful just by talking to them); and Kay K (from DoubleDuck) is one of the world's best spies, also skilled enough in martial arts she actually defeated Lyla in single combat (by throwing her off a roof, but she still managed to grab and throw her).
Donald is an amazing parental substitute to his three nephews. The original reason he even got to raise them was that the hellions had blown up their father and Della sent them to his house while the poor man recovered, and he, slowly but surely, turned them into good kids (though he had to fight quite the battles at time). Two alien tyrants once brainwashed them into their would-be successors, and Donald set up a revolution with the help of an Earth scientists who had been captured before him, physically destroyed the tyrants, and spanked the brainwashing away (it was a story from the 1970s). While hunting for a treasure with Jose Carioca and Panchito he was asked what he planned to do with his share, and he casually said he'd put it in their college fund (this casual admission is one of the reasons his two friends hold him in awe). And when the time-traveling bandit The Raider discovered his identity he was amazed at the kind of life and education he gave his nephews while also finding the time to fight crime and save the world and without doing anything unlawful or immoral to get the necessary money, something The Raider is uniquely qualified to judge due being a single father of one himself and his entire reason for still being a criminal being that it pays well enough to grant his son everything he needs to make himself a better life.
Curious that THIS, alongside his temper, is what everyone agrees on Donald's character...
Honestly a great character!

The History of the Wenclair Family
Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair. They were a duo that shouldn't have worked… but they did… and somehow their relationship resulted in marriage and children. This is the story of how their romance happened, and their family came to be...
Originally upon first meeting Enid Sinclair, Wednesday Addams found herself barely able to stand her room mate. However over time, the two developed an unprecedented bond. Enid found herself highly respecting Wednesday, while Wednesday found her soul slowly becoming soft only for Enid. A short time before turning 18, Wednesday allowed herself to begin experimenting in intimacy with Enid, and an unbroken bond between the two girls' souls was born.
As Wednesday began to discretely experiment in intimacy with Enid far longer than she had first anticipated, Wednesday eventually had to come to grips with her long term plans for where her and Enid's relationship would go. But upon wondering who she wished to be buried alongside one day, Wednesday realized there was only one person she wanted for that to be. So one night while surrounded by stuffed animals with heads cut off that were soaking in fake blood, Wednesday asked Enid to marry her... and Enid immediately accepted.
Around the time of their wedding, Wednesday used a rare plant extract from her mothers' garden that could allow a woman to become pregnant with the DNA of another woman (but very intimate intercourse still had to occur to enable the process). Despite Enid being shocked at first that she unintentionally knocked up Wednesday, the two women agreed to improve their communication going forward; and in early December, on Friday the 13th - the two welcomed their twin children into the world: Harmony Addams, and Ana "Anarchy" Addams.
Once their two children were born, Wednesday and Enid found work in the fashion industry; with Wednesday creating dark gothic creepy creations for one demographic of customers, and Enid making all the lighter stuff for the rest. Together the two raised their children in a gothic mansion (with Wednesday allowing Enid to plant bright plants in the backyard). Every day after school, and on the weekends: Wednesday would train Harmony and Ana in combat survival exercises, while Enid would teach her girls all the latest dance moves.
Upon reaching their teenage years, Harmony and Ana became strong young women. Harmony wound up learning she had gained both Enid's werewolf genes, and Wednesday's psychic abilities. Ana, while gaining no special abilities of her own, had still inherited all of Wednesday's intelligence and combat skills (while still having Enid's pleasant personality). Unfortunately, after the two girls accidentally caused a zombie frog outbreak at their school: Harmony and Ana were kicked out... only for their mothers to enroll them at Nevermore Academy.
During her first semester at Nevermore, Harmony found herself growing closer (in a romantic sense) to her childhood best friend: Megan, one of the first normies to attend Nevermore. Despite the two always being very close, Harmony had doubts if the two should take their relationship to the next level; due to them being so young, and due to conflicting visions of the future she was having when it came to her life with Megan. However, the two eventually consummated their relationship on one very romantic evening, and eventually the two agreed to get married once they both turned 18.
Ana meanwhile eventually found her own special individual to love... a kitten. After rescuing it from the woods where it was all alone, Ana named the stray cat: Stormageddon the Conqueror, and together the two started a freelance bounty hunting service together. On top of that, Ana and her cat have achieved a seat on the city council, beaten up vampires, defeated mutant clones, stopped an army of rogue sirens, and fixed the space/time continuum. Almost nobody understands how, but Ana and her cat have become an incredibly formidable duo.
Upon two Nevermore teachers attempting to kill Harmony and Ana (after the attackers revealed themselves to be the children of Laurel Gates), two staff positions at the school opened up. Wanting to be close to their daughters (and wanting to return to the place they met): Wednesday and Enid became teachers at Nevermore Academy, and even moved into the school (making their old dorm room their new home). Enid took over the art department, while Wednesday took over the school's self-defense courses, and school security. And now the story of Wednesday and Enid's family continues at the same place it began...

NEW FUCKING MACHINE GIRL ALBUM JUST DROPPED WE FUCKING LISTENING BITCH
1:Ok fr tho already heard first song from single its aight (better than i remember now that im listening again) ((theres also no lyrics out yet so im not gonna mention those at all))
2:Second song titled "nu nu meta phenomenon" is fucking INCREDIBLE the sound design and awesome drums continue the awesome trend of live instrumentation mixed with glitchy elements that leads to a heavenly experience!
3:Glitchy goodness continues on the third track, which has some amazing synth leads that are just a fucking amazing vibe. The ending is great aswell! A nice build up and climax to some CRAZY noise.
4:The standout element of this album is definitely the drums. The groove you get from them is exemplified perfectly on this track. Pretty nice track although ill have to let it grow on me a bit ngl.
5:This track is completely unique from anything else ive heard on the album. (I cannot get over the fact that the first verse uses the same flow as your favorite martian on mr douchebag.) The sound design continues to be otherwordly, legitimately so on this track sounding like music from outerspace. The latter half of this track is a lot more smooth and enjoyable than the first half.
6:Ohhh my god this interlude is amazing. Super ambient yet creepy vibes. Just a really nice relaxing track im definitely coming back to a ton.
7:Ive heard this song before. Absolute peak. Easily top 3 machine girl songs ever released, imo. Perfect blend of awesome electronic drums and live instrumentation in the more "punk rock" sections. The idm sections have an awesome groove and the transitions to the punk rock sections are just SO good. When this first dropped i was very surprised by it, but hearing it in context it makes perfect sense and fits snuggly as the center of this album.
8:Super cool track. Awesome drum grooves with some really unique vocals. Overall this is just a really fun song, with the high pitch really "bright" sounding instruments. The switch up later on brings a really nice element to this track aswell. Will be returning to this track many times i can tell. Not much to say here its just really good lol
9:The high pitch vocals really make this track for me. Super (again) groovy feel and awesome sound. The chaotic ending gives this track a good feel that makes it stand out from the rest of the tracklist
10:Living up to its name, "Grindhouse" starts with super dark feeling, as if you are in a house party on acid in a movie. This track just gets me moving man its so dancable! The second part of this track blends themes of house and techno with the experimental dark sound going on here, machine girl style with crazy sound design and distinctly machine girl vocals. This song just has a bounce to it that i love.
11:Another great interlude that sounds like a radio transition on a bad trip.
12:Transition into this song was amazing. The vocals already are captivating me with this aphex twin drukqs synth vibe, similar to cock/ver10. Vibing hard to this crazy ass track, just loving this switchup midway through, suddenly switching to a nice chill beat that still somehow sounds cracked out. AND IT SWITCHES UP AGAIN! Holy this song is so fucking good... the bass synths going loud in my ears and insane sounds im hearing definitely makes this track sound exactly like its name, "schizodipshit". The glitchyness adds to it aswell, and the cut back to reality with this simple beat right after omggg this song is phenomenal!!!!!
13:This was the third single for MG Ultra, and i love this song through and through, from the starting section with amazing drumming and superb chorus. I know the lyrics by heart to this song already i love it so much!! Its super relatable to me with it being about being belittled in small ways adding and not feeling respected by your peers. With lines like "psychic attack, when you're talking shit behind my back, psychic attack when i fall and hear your laughter" reveals this theme. Amazing final track that is a perfect closer for this just amazing album.
FINAL THOUGHTS: This album is the start of a new direction for machine girl, one of punk rock influence and more live instrumentation which I am really excited for! This keeps the same crazy energy and wild sound design and mixes it with punk rock groovyness. A must listen for machine girl fans. They have outdone themselves with this record. 10/10

Konrad gets a Room First
Look at him staring at the door - more under the cut, mainly my drabble that I hope is entertaining
I haven't gotten any custom content other than one thing to fully color the sclera of his eyes so bear with me through the EA furnishings for now.
As I upload these screenshots, I'm realizing that the urn I shoved on one of his bedside tables is gone. So much for giving him as much 'creepy' stuff that EA has so far. I'll probably have to resort to making my own cc at some point.
The rest of the house isn't done because I am busy at work (save me) as well as me being picky- not a good trait to carry while playing this game.
His room and connected bathroom <3
I spent three hours on this. My eyes hurt so bad oh my god. There's not enough clutter in base game- it restrains me from spending another three hours on it though.
Plan so far:
In house one, I've got Konrad, Corvus, Fulgrim, Ferrus, Sanguinius, and Vulkan. Konrad and Corvus get to be right next to each other to cause drama. Holes will be punched in the walls. Fulgrim is there because of the mentor connection to Konrad in lore, and I couldn't separate Ferrus from him! Sanguinius is there because having two psychics in one house sounds soo great. Vulkan is here to cause even more drama with Konrad as well.
There will be two other houses that come eventually. If I get super attached to this I'll (sadly) hand my money to EA and buy the rent pack so EVERYONE can live on one plot. Emps can be the property manager or something. Malcador can help too.
House two will have Dorn, Perturabo, Guilliman, Lion, Horus, and Leman. Also to cause drama. House three will get Khan, Mortarion, Angron, Magnus, Lorgar, and then the twins. The further down the list they are, the less I know about them so they'll get their time in the spotlight once I learn more about them.
I can't think of a way for them to all be genetically related (not necessary but if I ever got to making the legions, family tree would be wickedly cool) other than Emps and Malcador getting to it eighteen times and just separating them among plots with a custodian babysitter until they turn to adults and can be roomies. But that's too time consuming and my first time back in this game isn't going to be Empreg.
Also I made Ferrus and like where on earth is all the art of that dude??? I'm so sorry Iron Hands fans, you all have been getting crumbs
If you read this ily
Have this for shits and giggles!

my favorite Funny Anime Names(TM) so far, ranked
Millions Knives from Trigun: nothing can beat the hilarity of the Evil Twin Brother Named Millions Knives, who does in fact have millions knives at his disposal. peak Anime Name. I'd put a blue ribbon on him, but I'd die in the attempt, so let's not.
Wamuu from JJBA: first of all, it's a reference to the rock band Wham!, which kills me every time I think about it. yeah, the guy who beats up the hero is gonna be named Wham!. but what bumped it up into second place is that it's fun to say. "wah-mooo". I mouth it to myself all the time.
Esidisi and Kars from JJBA: they are tied for third place, right below their servant Wamuu, because the fact that they are played so seriously as these menacing 10,000 year old apex predators while being named AC/DC and Cars is simply incredible.
Reigen Arataka from Mob Psycho 100: Reigen basically means "fake psychic" (lit. "spirit illusion"), and Arataka hearkens to his greed (lit. "new prosperity"). so with context from his character, his name reads as "fake psychic in this for the fast money". I added some points for his name unintentionally confusing a bunch of ignorant Americans into thinking he's part white because "Reigen" is a homonym with some white names, but subtracted some because the name itself isn't funny to pronounce.
Ging Freecss from Hunter x Hunter: in a surprise move from my best beloathed deadbeat dad, his name makes 5th on my List of Funny Anime Names by dint of being purely phonetic (spelled in katakana to imitate a foreign name) and extremely funny to say out loud (approx. "jean freaks").
Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist: this sounds so American and for what?? also, his name has at least two Character Hints / Foreshadowing Things to it, making it clever. but he's only in sixth place because his name makes me smile in pain and not just delight. Roy Mustang. I ask you.
Yato from Noragami: there's. PUNS. there's LAYERS to this name. 夜, ya, the counter for "nights", for a calamity god. it's just a little bit creepy, but also a little pathetic. perfect for him. also I love that the ト (to, phonetic character) is actually a misreading of 卜 (boku, divination). and he doesn't tell anyone. perfection <333
#Robin speaks#You Are All Welcome For This#I had to narrow it down to ''funny'' anime names because if I said just Anime Names I'd have to put 100 mp100 names on the list#that's a Whole other thing#honorable mention to Midvalley the Horn Freak of Trigun fame

So you know how there’s that very mentally disturbed individual with multiple accounts who spams the Jikook tag and believes they have some psychic/soulmate connection to Jimin? I think I’ve seen them use Twin Flames a LOT and I just saw that there’s a Netflix documentary about a cult which uses the whole Twin Flames soulmate thing. I wonder if they’re connected to it? I have that person blocked but I just started watching that documentary and felt creeped out because it reminded me of them and the way they talk about Jimin. I don’t think we should give them attention at all or anything but I just needed to share this with someone after accidentally stumbling across the whole Twin Flame Universe cult thing. Just creepy.
I need to watch that documentary asap. I have the two blogs blocked, but I know that one of them is used for the twin flame thing. It's so creepy. That's why I wrote that post a couple of weeks ago that that person should be ignored because something is not right. And I know it's easy to get enraged when you see all that nonsense, particularly the way it pushes the Jungkook abuser narrative, but honestly, it's not worth it.
Also, I looked up that cult and apparently, Ryan Gosling had to take a restraining order against someone who believed they were his twin flame??? Crazyville
The doc is called Escaping Twin Flames if anyone else wants to look it up.

(You hear the clacking sound of a keyboard being typed on)
Is this thing working? Oh, wait- AHA, there we go!
About time!
Took it long enough.
Yeah, really. So, let's introduce ourselves! Hello, Rotomblr- Rotumblr? How do you spell it? Girls, you know I have dyslexia-
Oh boy, we're off to a bad start.
Yeah, really.
AHEM. Moving on... I'm Dusk! I'm the one in the middle here, with the red eyes. I specialize in Ghost Types, and I'm kind of our leader? Sorta? I dunno.
I'm Dawn, on the right, with the magenta eyes. I like Poison types. They are verrrrrry fun. Dusk and I are twins, if it wasn't obvious.
I'm Twilight, the odd one out on the left, with the brown and pink hair. I use Psychic Types, and I'm their little sister. Nice to meet you all!
We decided to make a shared blog here for you all to chat with us with. You can ask us just about anything, but if we find an ask too weird, we're just gonna delete it.
Yeah, don't come over here asking REALLY weird shit. You know what we mean, you weird fucks.
Language, Dawn.
Shut up-
Girls, chill. Now, you all may notice we're using different text colors, it's just so you can tell who's talking. Wouldn't want you all getting confused. Now, with all that said, uhhh... you can start asking us stuff now, I guess.
Wow, way to be confident when ending it off.
C'mon, Dusk, you can do better then that.
Girls, don't make me get Thanatos. OH RIGHT, you can ask about our teams, too, and depending on who you ask, the Pokémon spoken about may chip in with something! Okay, now we're good.
Ask away, people!
(OOC under the cut)
I decided to make an ask blog for my three Pokémon OC's, Dusk, Dawn, and Twilight! You may have seen them appear over on other blogs, rest assured, that is me, just my alt lol.
Pelipper Mail is ON! Magic Anon is OFF!
Don't be weird with them, yall. I won't hesitate to block anyone who asks anything obviously inappropriate. None of that shit will be on my blog. This is fuckin' MINE, and it ain't gonna be a circus for your creepy desires, got it?
When I talk OOC, I'll use // as an indicator. You can ask me things as well, if you want! Just specify!
Speaking of that, specify which of them you're talking to when you send in asks, please. I'm not a mind reader. If you do that, I'm gonna end up hitting you with this:
(thanks to @the-boy-and-the-poison-puppeteer for the inspiration for this lol [sorry for the ping], go check out his blog if you didn't come here from his)
Any of them may go unavailable for any reason at any time, so I'll keep a list of who's available and who isn't.

Longlegs Review
I initially wrote this review of Longlegs as an application exercise to apply for a Staff Writer position but thought it was worth uploading to my portfolio as well as I enjoyed working through some thoughts on the film.
Contains Spoilers
With Longlegs, Osgood Perkins delivers a deeply unsettling nightmare-fuel film. Entirely over-hyped as the ‘scariest film of the year’, some reviewers have singled out the third act as the point when the film ultimately fails. Horror films are very often most successful in their first and second acts. When the monster is revealed, or an explanation is given, this is when the film is likely to lose its grip (see: Psycho). For me, Perkins leaves enough ambiguity for a viewer to be satisfyingly terrified throughout and thinking about it long after it ends.
The film is visually striking and thematically bold, throwing a lot at the audience: detective procedural pastiche, satanic cult influence, creepy dolls with psychic powers, ‘mommy’ horror in the vein of Hereditary. Its strengths lie ultimately in its preoccupation with depicting the horrifying inevitability of the return of the repressed. In interviews Perkins has discussed ways his personal experience has inspired his work. The central theme of parents withholding truths or aspects of themselves from their children clearly mirrors aspects of his own biography. Perkins has also openly discussed his cinematic influences. The film pays homage to many other works, always delivering references with a knowing wink. He has even described initially using The Silence of the Lambs as a template but Longlegs departs wildly from what we expect from the serial killer procedural. What remains of this in the film is drawn well and Perkins clearly has a great respect for the genre, but it is something of a Trojan horse within which he smuggles the larger narrative.
Maika Monroe delivers a stunning performance conveying Lee Harker’s offbeat brilliance transcending to supernatural clairvoyance. Her interactions with the gregarious Agent Carter (Blair Underwood) generate much needed levity within the film’s oppressive darkness. The contrast between the pair goes some of the way to reveal Perkins’ knowing-ness. Carter’s lightness throws Harker’s quiet, obsessive genius into relief - she is the hyper-detective, intuitive to a psychic degree, a parody of the Clarice Starling/ Will Graham type. Alongside (or underneath) the detective narrative we see flashes of Nicholas Cage as the titular Longlegs. Cage is nearly unrecognizable in this role. The issue of the monster being seen so much that it detracts from their fear factor is always a puzzle to be solved in a horror project and is handled well here - Longlegs largely exists within scenes that take place in Harker’s subconscious. The almost red-herring quality of Cage’s character allows the film to sustain his creepiness, the film’s suggestion of a greater satanic evil it goes on to explore in act three allows Longlegs to retain his scariness as our time with him is cut short. In ‘reality’ Cage’s character is a “gross guy”, simply an earthly vessel for the truly unknowable evil. His scariness is drawn from his relation to Harker’s unconscious rather than scenes in which we see him in the ‘real’ world. The way we access her memory through recovered glimpses forces us to view him from her 9 year old perspective, further emphasized by Perkins’ choice to shoot the childhood scenes on film which lend it the feel of a forbidden home video.
While Perkins creates a pastiche of the serial killer procedural, he also draws on influences beyond the traditional genre. The moody, bleak atmosphere put me in mind of Lynch’s Twin Peaks (most strongly 2017’s The Return) to which there are some overt references. However when considered further next to Longlegs there are many common threads between the projects that can be uncovered - from actors (Alicia Witt); to sets (houses cloaked in plastic sheeting); to objects with never-fully-explained supernatural powers (see: doll brain balls). Kiernan Shipka’s Carrie Ann discusses having been living within a dream, offbeat FBI agent Harker’s reality is shaped by her double, the doll version of herself and the dark power within it. Harker, like Carrie Ann, has been living within a version of this dream. While Longlegs shares some DNA with Lambs’ Buffalo Bill, I would argue that he bears no slight resemblance to Frank Silva’s Bob. Cage’s bombastic performance of Longlegs’ physicality and behavior, the film’s presentation of him visually, as well as deeper thematic aspects all evoke the Twin Peaks Bob figure. Both characters serve as a link between an underworld and immediate reality, playing mysterious roles in fathers committing familicide.
Ultimately Perkins’ film is concerned with big questions and themes: the family as a site of violence and trauma; what parents are capable of in the name of protecting their child; and how the concealment of reality leads to repression that inevitably returns to haunt and disrupt the subject. Alicia Dewitt’s Ruth Harker delivers the ‘exposition dump’ deemed offensive by many reviewers in the form of a fairy tale-like bedtime story - this speech is perhaps another red-herring, masquerading as providing more answers than it actually does. Perkins is more interested in portraying the confusion and darkness of familial secrecy and concealment than he is in answering any questions raised by the film, and this makes it far more successful in my eyes than many have given it credit for.

The WVBA haven't bothered to intervein with this as it brings a larger audience, albeit an audience that likes to boo the twins for their boorish personalities and antics. They don't care, though, as they just smugly tell the fans to 'kiss their fat hairy arses'. Charming..."

When her opponent is blissed out and unaware of what goes on, she strikes them like the thorns of a beautiful rose" Name: Celestia Age: ??? Height: ??? Weight: ??? Nationality: ??? Position: #1 Special Circuit Record: 24-8 (18 KO) Stance: Southpaw (Left-Handed) "Nobody can get a read on this unusual lady. Nobody knows where she's from, how old she is, if she's even a human or not... All of it is shrouded in a thick coat of mystery. People can figure out one thing, though, and that's that this lady bears some out of this world psychic powers that she isn't afraid of using during matches. She's a spiteful brute who prefers to let her fists do the talking when someone's pissing her off and makes sure her creepy little brother, Grimm, gets his way. However, this personality seems to have been made by a very difficult and abusive childhood..."

So, my progress with my FFXIV watchthrough so far (spoilers under the cut, also forgive me for not keeping up with the liveblogging), also forgive me if I leave out a few parts or forgot some.
So, since my last post, the Warrior of Light was introduced to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, led by the lovely Minfilia, who taught us about this freaky deeky psychic vision power that the WoL possesses, which she herself is also in possession of, called the Echo. We also learned that it was the echo that prevented the Warrior of Light from being 'tempered,' or made into a mind-controlled zealot by the primal Ifrit, worshipped by the Amalj'aa. We also learned of the primals, the Archons and of course met the other members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, aside from Minfilia and Thancred, namely Y'shtola (love her already), Papalymo the the lalafell, Yda, and Urianger. The three city-states of Ul'Dah, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa held a remembrance ceremony to honour those who lost their lives in the Calamity, and during this time we met the elezen twins, Alphinaud and his sister Alisaie, who seemed to have rather...complicated feelings regarding the ceremonies and addresses given by Raubahn, Kan-E-Senna and Merlwyb, and the both of them going their separate ways following a heated discussion about what Alphinaud deemed as an almost dismissive attitude towards the Warriors of Light and how little was actually spoken of them.
Following that, there lurked another threat on the horizon, namely more primals, such as the primal Titan, worshipped by the kobolds, but in the lead up to that, we befriended the adorable sylphs, and rescued their elder from an abandoned dungeon, and learned more about the creepy masked mages that are following the Warrior of Light; the Ascians, led by the masked mage Lahabrea. Disaster struck after the battle with the primal Titan, as the Scions were horribly attacked by the Garlean forces, who have been following the Warrior of Light and are planning something big and nefarious, and it looks like Minfilia has been captured, along with a few others (this part frickin BROKE me btw). Y'shtola also learned of Lahabrea and his Ascians working with the Garleans, but for what purpose we're not yet sure (both Y'shtola and the player, or in my case the watcher), but it can't be good. In the wake of that, the Warrior of Light headed to Thanalan to seek shelter in the Church of Adama Landama, where we met the amnesiac Marques, who turned out to actually be the renowned engineer named Cid Garlond, with Alphinaud showing up at the church as well, saying he wishes to revive the Scions and encouraging Cid to come to the aid of Eorzea. Alphinaud warned of the threat of the Ixal-summoned primal Garuda, who is meaner, more powerful and more destructive than both Ifrit and Titan combined, which, with Cid getting back in the proverbial saddle, led us to Coerthas and Ishgard in the search for Cid's missing airship, the Enterprise. And of course, this search for the Enterprise is what brought us to my previous liveblogging post, wherein we met the lovely Haurchefant Greystone, who I am absolutely insanely in love with and down bad for, like I love him so freaking much. The search for the Enterprise and Haurchefant's own efforts led to a conspiracy within the noble houses of Ishgard to frame Lord Francel, one of the heads of the noble houses, for heresy, led by this shady dude named Inquisitor Guillame, who was actually an imposter who killed the real inquisitor and took his place so as to frame Francel and spread the conspiracy from within, and would have succeeded if not for Haurchefant and the Warrior of Light uncovering it and putting a stop to it.
After that, we recovered the Enterprise and fixed it up, heading back to New Gridania to search for an ice-aspected aether crystal to enhance the Enterprise and aid in the fight against Garuda, and that brings us to where I'm up to now in my watchthrough! Also, I dunno what I was expecting, especially since his holologe was stated to be Garlean technology, but-
Cid himself is a Garlean...? Hmmm this is gonna get interesting from here...
#also we're heading back to Coerthas so we might see my darling Haurchefant again#HAURCHIE I MISSED YOU BABY#final fantasy#final fantasy xiv#ffxiv#ffxiv spoilers
