As someone who took literary criticism and was obsessed with Mary Shelley in high school and college, I am begging more people to watch “Creature”!!!
It’s a Turkish limited series on Netflix and may just be one of the best adaptations of Frankenstein I’ve ever seen

"So many days have passed. Won't you let me see your face already?"
"...have you ever heard of the forget-me-not flower?"
"No, I haven't. Is that what they're called? I don't like the name. It makes me think of being apart. Are you planning on leaving?"
"No, it's not that."
"Okay, I won't ask to see your face. Just please, don't leave."
"I won't. Don't worry. I'll pick other flowers for you. Flowers with nicer names. The ones that sounds like reunions."
Ihsan & Esma [Yaratılan, Netflix]. Giving the happy ending they so deserve.

There's also the 2015 movie called just "Frankenstein" with Danny Huston and Carrie-Anne Moss. It has a modern vibe and it's a veeery worthy adaptation!

Hello, Brazilian person here.
I watched the series recently. At first, one episode a day, but after the 4th one I found myself anxious for the time to come for me to watch another one. I'm also a fan of Gothic literature and I read Frankenstein, so I was able to appreciate it even more by comparing the differences between the two, and the things that Yaratilan added to the story, using Turkish culture itself.
I really like watching productions from other countries, but I don't remember ever watching something so immersed in Turkish culture. I was happy to have discovered such a beautiful language and to know more about the setting and costumes of the time. As well as the actors!
I'm currently recommending the series to all my close friends and using this as an excuse to rewatch everything from the beginning.
The actors did very well, especially the actor who gave life (and what life!) to Ihsan; In few productions have I seen such touching expressions and a character with such lovely features. And also, because in very little screen time, the series manages to develop strong relationships between the characters and make us care so much about them.
I've never been one to rewatch series once I finish them, but I've rewatched some entire episodes more than 3 times now.
I know that Yaratilan was VERY likely intended to have just one season and that's it, but I can't help but hope for the small clues left throughout the episodes, that perhaps we could be gifted with a second season.
Turkish Frankenstein Show
"Yaratılan/ Creature "
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey guys, I just binge-watched this show with my parents and it was amazing.
Yaratilan/ Creature is a Turkish adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, produced by Netflix and directed by Çağan Irmak.
first of all, the story takes place at the end of the Ottoman era (which is also the End of the Victorian Era)
So Victor is now called Ziya, which also means Light.
I love how they changed the story into Turkish culture in such a good way, the costumes, scenery everything looks great and the Turkish actors play it soooo well.
There are new characters added in the story, which fits so well, I wasn't complaining like I usually do when an adaptation adds silly things into the story and skips parts from the book BUT this show did everything well in my opinion, there was changed parts but it fit well and almost every part of the Story from the book was covered.
I also love how Ziya was bothered by "uneducated people " during his studies and had a rough time, which is also very relatable to me.
In the show, you will get to see the rich part of the society and their clothing (Istanbul) but also see Turkish Villages! The costumes and environment were so well done.
As it comes to the Creature`s story. It has changed a lot, but the key elements of the story and motivation are still there. The makeup was great and the actor Erkan Kolçak played him so well, I really liked it. I believe you will also like the change to his character arc. I could talk a lot more about it but don't want to spoil it.
I don't watch Turkish movies/series because many of them have the same theme and drama elements and one episode takes 2 hours long, but as a gothic literature fan, I adore this show and am very very proud to see it as a Turkish person. I highly recommend it to you all! please go and watch it and also see my culture.

Yaratılan vibes, Yes or Of Course?
( I know, I still hope that someday I'll find even a small, hidden fandom of this series somewhere...! )

What name should he give it? (knowing Geralt's creativity, you know, stupid ideas, are the best ideas!)
