It’s quiet in the Zeus cabin. Jason doesn’t remember a time it was ever this quiet. The Romans have just left camp, and Jason hasn’t had a moment to just be like this since… well, his whole life, really. It was always moving from one thing to the next.

Jason looks around the cabin. The giant statue of Zeus glares down at him. The air is cold, the floor of the cabin is solid underneath him, not rocking the way he’s grown used to on the Argo II. He half expects someone to run in screaming something like “Percy burst the pipes again!” but he’s not on the boat anymore. He’s alone.

He can’t take it.

He leaves his cabin, giving it a final cursory look before stepping outside. The difference is palpable. People are rushing around camp, even though the sun has set in the sky and there’s barely any light, save for the greek-fire patches that haven’t been put out yet. Jason sees Annabeth and Percy by the dining pavilion, and Piper flits by him with a smile and a wave as she goes to the Aphrodite cabin. He looks around for Hazel and Frank before he remembers.

He winds up at the lake. Someone else is already there, their curls managing to reflect the little light that’s around them. Leo’s sitting on the edge of the dock, his feet dangling over, his hands fiddling with something. Other than him, nothing else is moving. The naiads still haven’t emerged after the battle.

Leo looks up as Jason sets foot on the dock, twisting over his shoulder. His hands don’t stop moving.

“Hey, Jas.”

“Hey,” Jason says, but it’s almost inaudible. He feels like if he speaks loud he might disturb the water.

Leo smiles, but it’s not his normal grin. It’s tinged with something else. Loneliness.

“Couldn’t handle it?”

Jason nods and settles himself down next to Leo. He sees that he’s fiddling with a piece of string, tying and untying knots in it.

They sit in silence for a while, the only sound being the occasional shout from camp. Jason doesn’t know how this is different from sitting in the Zeus cabin except he does and the answer is sitting next to him and warming him even though they aren’t touching. Jason lets his eyes drift over the water, tracing the rare ripples in its surface.

“I feel useless,” Leo says, suddenly.

Jason turns to him. Leo’s eyes flick to him, then back to his hands. He ties another knot.

“I keep panicking when I realized I haven’t set the course for our next stop and then I realize–” Leo trails off and waves his hand. It can’t possibly capture what’s happened today.

Jason hums and draws his knees up to hug him. He imagines he looks as small as he feels. “I can’t believe we’ve… done it. We’ve won.”

Jason looks up at the stars. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Leo do the same. Something rises in him, like bile in the back of his throat, threatening to break free as he stares at the great expansive flecks of light across the navy sky.

“It’s like there isn’t any reason for us. For me,” Jason whispers.

A hand closes around his where it’s wrapped against his legs.

“Jason,” Leo says, but Jason continues to look at the sky. The heaviness at the back of his throat only grows even though he’s said it.

“Jason, there are reasons for you. You’re the ambassador between camps. You’re the Pontifex Maximus,” Leo says, and tugs Jason until he’s forced to look at him.

“You make me feel alive, Jas. For the first time–” Leo’s voice breaks, and it’s now that Jason notices that his eyes are glossy.

“For the first time ever, I feel like I can breathe,” Leo finishes. And then Jason is in a crushing hug, his nose pressed into Leo’s shoulder. His frame fits just right around Jason’s, although the angle is a little uncomfortable. Jason doesn’t mind, though, not when his mind is focused on the smell of gasoline and the feel of Leo’s curls against his face. The both of them are shaking and someone whimpers and Jason realizes it was him and oh god he’s staining Leo’s shirt now, isn’t he?

“Not more than it’s already stained, Sparky,” Leo exhales shakily, and Jason huffs a laugh that’s caught by Leo’s shirt. When they separate, Jason’s face feels hot for a reason that is probably not due to Leo’s parentage.

“Thanks, man,” Jason says. Leo smirks knowingly. He reaches out and pushes a nonexistent lock of hair past Jason’s ear. Jason’s face burns.

“Anytime, bro.”

YEAH that’s another weird one.

I have a headcanon/theory that ghost types aren’t actually ghosts, but are instead fully Pokémon that have the characteristics of what people expect supernatural spirits to have.

I can imagine the first person to see one must have been scared and called it a ghost and then humanity just kinda jumped on that assumption from that point onward, making up scary stories about how they came to be and that they’re actually deceased humans or something.

But in reality, they’re just Pokémon like all the others. Ghost types just have the ability to float through walls, hide in shadows and prefer the darkness over being in the light. They may look like and behave like “ghosts”, but they aren’t ghosts in the technical sense. They’re just called that because of how they behave.

With this in mind, I propose we come up with a new headcanon for why Yamask carry masks (or other ancient materials)

Perhaps Yamask are naturally intrigued by humans and their creations, and have a desire to connect and learn more about humans by carrying things they have made to try and feel like they’re a part of the civilization.

How do you think the fallout from the Sou fight between the dolls and the remaining participants will play out? I mean, Q-taro just went on about how they're done sacrificing each other and then Keiji goes and tries to kill Midori, possibly putting the dolls at risk. I personally think/hope that the tensions are very high on Sou route, at least compared to Kanna route, where they might be able to smoot things over a bit.

This is a good question and I’m happy that you asked me, though it is a difficult one. My honest answer is that there are so many variables at play with the dummies that their arcs could go in so many directions. For example, it’s already possible for Anzu and Hayasaka to die in 3-1A. How much will the story change depending on that? I’m excited to learn more about these characters, so I don’t like to speculate about them dying so quickly, but that’s already happening!

With that said!

I agree with you that the Sou/Kanna choice feels like the most pivotal break in the game, and I love to speculate about the effects of that choice. How will Sara, Keiji, Shin, and Kanna behave differently in these routes with regards to the dummies? I’m hesitant to theorize too much, but I will share with you how I would write the fallout if I was writing a fanfiction.

I’m basing my thoughts on my earlier analysis that I think it was logical to push Fake Reko and emotional to spare her. In other words, I think it is logical to prioritize the humans’ wellbeing over the dolls, and it is emotional to treat the dolls as the humans’ equals.

First of all, if I was writing this, I would ensure Keiji’s survival from his current coffin problem, and I would keep him as the most “difficult” character for the dummies. Keiji is the most logical character and the voice of reason. Yes, he just had an emotional outburst in his confrontation with Midori, but I think he could justify this outburst as since the humans are tasked with killing Midori anyway. Keiji is the best at rationalizing. If we want to focus on the “greater good” of saving as many humans as possible, we need to rationalize that we need to kill Midori and leave the other dolls to die. If anyone is going to point out this harsh truth, shouldn’t it be Keiji?

If literally anyone else points this out, it would be a huge, dramatic turning point for them, while with Keiji it would be in line with how he’s always behaved. I would resist having anyone else point this out and keep my focus on Keiji, and I would treat this as a potential turning point for him. Perhaps he will come out of this arc by learning to change his harshly logical mindset, or perhaps he will double-down on it.

In contrast, I would write Shin and Kanna as more sympathetic to the dummies, who are vulnerable underdogs much like them. I hesitate to make Shin too nice since he is an antagonist after all, but I still want to believe that, in his heart of hearts, he would empathize with the dummies. (Since it’s me, I would indulge myself and give Shin some melodramatic speeches about how Keiji and Logic Sara are filthy hypocrites who don’t actually care about saving anyone but themselves. He’s a talkative antagonist and he Has Opinions about strong and weak people that he Must Share.) 

In my Fake Reko analysis that I mentioned earlier, I pulled screenshots of how both Shin and Kanna react emotionally to the idea of Fake Reko dying, and they both affirm her humanity. I think it would be really cool if those early reactions could foreshadow them both trying to affirm the humanity of these new dolls!

So that sets the stage for conflict within our group. I would write Logic Sara as more inclined to side with Keiji, whether the Player wants her to or not. And I would write Emotion Sara as someone who would side with Kanna.

I would treat this as a big shining moment for Kanna to grow as a person who realizes her voice has value. She has internalized the loving messages that both Kugie and Shin tried to impart to her. Kanna wants to save everyone’s lives, and she also doesn’t want Keiji to damage his soul any further by continually rationalizing that they need to sacrifice people to survive.

Hinako is a key player here. Personally, I am most excited for what the story does with Hinako, due to her connections with my favorite characters.

She is Keiji’s dummy partner. With Hinako, Keiji has a second chance to help a little girl, since he previously voted to kill Kanna. He also has a chance to double-down on his harsh views that we need to kill these girls for the greater good. I would write Keiji as redeeming himself in the Emotion Route, and becoming a darker person in the Logic Route.

Hinako parallels Kanna as a depressed middle school girl. I would love to see Kanna befriend Hinako and teach her the same loving lessons she learned from Kugie, Shin, and Emotion Sara. Hinako is a cynical weak person who expects to be used, which is most similar to Shin’s old cynical attitude. Wouldn’t it be lovely for Kanna to help Hinako like how Shin was able to help Kanna? I couldn’t resist that if I was writing!

However, I’m most excited about the potential for a Shin-Hinako alliance! Since Shin would see similarities between Hinako and Kanna, and he could grow protective of her in spite of himself, and I just think it would be really really cute, okay? Anyway, I am all in for that theory that Shin and Hinako should team up to try to kill Keiji, because I think that would be exciting and dramatic and honestly hilarious. So that’s what I would write! But I would make them fail, and Keiji kills Hinako instead, and Shin comes out of this arc feeling even more self-righteous and hating Keiji and Logic Sara even more. Muahaha.

(If I was writing a redemption arc for Shin though! I’d make his feelings reach Sara, and they could come to another emotional understanding, and maybe they could forgive each other. I don’t expect that to happen in canon, but it is nice to think about.)

Anyway, that’s how I would write the fallout! But it could turn out completely different!! There’s literally so much that I can’t anticipate, and I’m trying to brace myself that many of my ideas will probably turn out to be wrong. We’ll have to wait and see!

A lot of people think that's the real Monica, with a crest of Macuil, and that, with (presumably) Holst showing up it means all three routes will have new playable allies. On a different note, what do you think of Shez?

(I'll be honest I had somehow not put together that the burly pink-haired dude was possibly Holst until I saw this, and then I had to go whip through the trailer again for that shot of his cape because yep that sure looks like the Crest of Goneril)

Out of curiosity, who's the new playable ally for the Blue Lions? I spotted a couple new faces but nobody else I could put a name to the way I can Holst and Monica (and I'm still really perplexed by how Monica is there?? what is happening), and I don't think Dedue necessarily counts as a new playable ally since he is playable in Azure Moon, even if there are more conditions placed on his availability than most other characters assigned to a given class.

As for Shez, I have no opinion as of yet. Their personality doesn't strike me one way or another yet, and while I don't loathe F!Shez' outfit as much as I do Bylass, I still kind of hate it. Literally all I want is more Claude screentime.

9. first kisses this is super long and late i hope you like it 😭

as usual with me, valgrace have been dancing around each other for a while, right? they’re off the argo II, it’s the aftermath of everything that’s happened, leo did not die because i said so, but he came really close.

jason and piper have broken up because piper discovered reyna and well. piper is gay, reyna is gay, it just worked out. jason was really glad when piper burst into the jupiter cabin and yelled “oh my gods jason i’m gay i’m so sorry i have to break up with you” because he was trying to figure out how to say the same thing to her… so that also worked out.

anyways there’s no hard feelings there, although jason did tell piper he’d need some recovery time (like a week) before they could be best friends again.

In the mean time, jason has yet to see the remaining member of his trio. leo has been in the infirmary to recover, and jason left him there after he got confirmation from one of the apollo kids that leo was going to make it. 

okay that was a lie, hazel had to drag him out of the infirmary, but now that he’s out he doesn’t want to go back. seeing leo all beaten up and unable to tell jokes was really terrible. it’s made worse by the recent realization that he’s sort of in love with him.

he’s chatted a little with reyna about leo, and reyna gave him her almost-ex stamp of approval, so that was niec.

(upon saying he didn’t know if he should tell leo, reyna gave a sighed of annoyance and said “boys” under her breath. jason doesn’t know what it meant. possibly it was the reason she’s a lesbian.)

fast forward a few days, leo is up and at em, not really, both of his legs are still in casts and he uses crutches to get around, but he’s doing much better than he was when jason went to see him. 

there’s an obligatory “yay leo is okay!” party thrown in jason’s cabin by the seven. it also doubles as a going away party for hazel, frank, percy and annabeth. Jason hasn’t told anyone he isn’t planning on going back except for reyna, but since no one wishes him a safe trip he figures everyone knows. 

the party turns into a sleepover, which jason is grateful for, he’s not ready to sleep alone quite yet. (in the sense that he wasn’t alone on the argo II). 

everyone slowly passes out until it’s just jason awake, or he thinks that until a small flame flickers from the other end of the room. leo has been arranged carefully around a bunch of pillows and blankets, and from this distance (and without his glasses) jason can just make out some of the other boy’s individual curls.

the flame extinguishes, and jason hears a heavy sigh. he’s about to let it slide until someone pokes him in thigh, making him jump, and letting him know yeta gain he’s not the only awake person. it’s piper, and she’s got a knowing gleam in her eye, and she tilts her head in leo’s direction. go to him, she’s saying.

so jason steels himself and makes his way across the room, offers his hands to leo who smiles up and takes it, and they end up on the rooftop. jason had to fly him up because of his casted legs, and then he had to go back down to get blankets and pillows to make him comfortable.

they sit in silence until they both speak at the same time, and jason’s cheeks are warm when leo tells him he can go first with a smile.

jason: “leo i just…” he looks to the stars and he remembers sitting on the deck of the argo II, feeling the rocking of the boat beneath him. he remembers hearing commotion from the cabin across from his and knowing that leo was there working on something crazy. he turns to leo, who’s got a determined look on his face.

jason starts, “leo, i really, really like you and-” and then he can’t finish because leo is kissing him. it lasts for a second before leo pulls back. jason blinks. he frowns before tugging leo forward and kissing him again, closing his eyes to enjoy it properly.

he releases leo, who’s got a cocky grin on his face. he says, “you didn’t even let me finish.”

leo rolls his eyes: “i’ve been waiting for months now, i wasn’t going to wait a few more seconds.”

jason’s cheeks are so warm. “Months?”

leo rolls his eyes again and leans forward to kiss jason’s cheek. “it’s okay though, i have you now.”

bonus: “is THIS why you were so upset at being the seventh wheel?” “you try watching your two obviously gay best friends date for months and tell me you wouldn’t feel the same.” “... okay that’s fair.”

okay i think i get it now. so like part of the role shifts would be killers and victims? although that does leave me questioning if the motives are the same? Some of them seemed to be, like, specifically targeted towards certain people (1-3 driving celeste, 2-2 being centered around Fuyuhiko and the girls, 3-2 having Kirumi be only one to get her own video)?

That was something I thought about, and yeah, no, if i can’t find a way for the motive to line up, I’ll switch it for another. Be it with another killing game or another one in this king game, or whatever. Idk, like I said, a lot of this is still in the beta design. The main goal is finding ways for certain characters to fulfill the obligations of certain roles and for it to be in character for them to do so. That’s the challenge of making these AUs
