among other things, the wga strike is a shatterpoint moment in deciding how much of a critical profession within an industry can be reduced to a poverty wage gig economy while ai takes over
if you think this doesn't affect your job somewhere down the line, reconsider that thought
#wga strike#and I'm not just talking about creative industries#my obgyn friend was telling me about some really disturbing parallels she's seeing in the medical field#I've seen people in the nonprofit sector discussing this on twitter#anyway felt like this deserved its own post

"Death Isn't The End" | Mourning AU Fanfic
[Warning; angst, implied suicide, mention of death]
Drip, drip, drip...
The sound of water drops she savored so much when she slept there...
Drip, drip, drip... Splash!
Another puddle she stepped into while running into the cave, running passed stalactites and stalagmites, as water drops dripped from the crooked spikes that grew above her.
The cave looked a lot bigger then last time, but that wasn't the point.
What a coward she was... Running away from her problems once again...
"Pathetic, isn't it?"
She stopped, did that voice sound familiar? Or was it just her own imbecilic imagination?... But they took the words right out of her mouth.
"You really think they actually cared about you? Please, no one would care about some monstrosity..." Her ears ringed from the voice, even when her hands are pressed into them, it still felt like her ears were bleeding.
A hand was pressed on her shoulder, the immense feeling of dread going through her whole body as she turned around.
"C'mon, you can't even recognize yourself?" The crooked hand was slapped away from her shoulder, as she took several steps away from the anomaly.
Was that her? Why did she look so, crooked? No features, only eyes that bore into her own.
She stood still as her breathing rhythm quickend, widened eyes with an unmoving gaze from the anomaly that resembled her crookedly.
"What? Don't like looking at yourself, huh, Reyna?" The anomaly giggled, the sound of it was sickening to hear from them. "Well, not to worry, i think this one suits me just fine"
The sounds of bones breaking filled the cave, as the shape of the anomaly changed. Two heads were formed as they turned to her with loud crack.
Reyna gritted her eyes shut, not even daring to look at them, as lava filled tears started froming in her sockets. She started to back away, soon halting once she didn’t feel anymore ground to walk on.
The being turned her around and made Reyna open her eyes, pointing them right down an abyss of nothingness, as the two heads of the anomaly were on both of her sides, slowly leaning her over the edge.
"Why don’t you just jump? You'll have an easier way of joining us..." The female head soothed into her ear, making her take one step forward.
"...C'mon, just a small step and you can give us a hug in no time!" The Male head laughed into her other ear, as she took another step towards the edge.
"I mean, it's not like you wanted to live anyway, your heart broke after all"
As Reyna looked down at the dark abyss, she was about to take her last step, but something stopped her...
It felt like... Someone was hugging her... Holding her back from jumping.
"Reyna, we're here for you... Your friends are here for you... Monster or not"
"We know you miss us... But you need to be strong now, you need to trust yourself and the others, and always keep this in your head.."
"We'll always be there for you..."
Reyna shook her head, as she backed away from the edge.
Her ears stopped ringing, as she slowly calmed herself down.
Was that even real what she saw? That... Entity? But she knows those voices... Mella and Evan.
"Just like Sherryl always said... Death is not the end. Death can never be the end."
"Death is the road. Life is the traveller. The soul is the guide"
Hehe, decided to also write a silly fanfic of what's happening at Reyna's side >:]

does anyone know where i can look for more information about the making of the Dungeon Meshi manga? Like are there more in-depth translated interviews where Ryoko Kui talks about her creative process, if she worked with anyone else, how she got it published, if she translated it to English herself or of not who did, etc?
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#dunmeshi#tbh im a sponge for any and all information about dunmeshi#i have to make 5 creative pipeline maps and mini essays this term#if i can get away with it the next one will be abt the anime#cause they all have to be for different creative industries#but... if i choose the abime as my one animation one... then i cant do another tv/movie one at all....#oh fuck i just realized idk what other industries id even choose!#besides illustration?#ooh i could do one on braiding sweetgrass if manga doesn't count in the same sector as regular books

The comparisons between Dropout and Watcher are kind of stupid tbh. Dropout’s success is immutable.
#not that anyone asked <3#I just find the creative sector morbidly fascinating#college humor came up on an internet that still HAD individual brand websites with high traffic#even before YouTube#plus they got REALLY lucky#plus Guy in a Suit tm Sam Reich could tell me anything and I’d probably believe him#squawk tag

please forgive me, but I need to complain and over-share or my brain is going to explode please feel free to ignore
#I'm not doing well.#the last two places I worked (in a tourism-adjacent sector) closed. broadly speaking due to post-lockdown financial issues#for the past year at my current job I've been earning less than half what I used to. this was the only offer I got at the time and#I haven't found anything better since. this is not sustainable I'm barely making it each month...#I live with my parents and cancelled my health insurance I don't know how else to reduce my budget. it's depressing tbh#the solution is obviously to find a better job but that's just not happening and I'm beginning to feel discouraged.#I hate being negative it's a very unattractive character trait but I just feel myself slipping and spiraling#I know I should be taking short courses or volunteering to boost my cv but like when ! and how !#I can't afford to work less but I get home at 20h so even evening courses are tricky. I work every other saturday too so weekends are out#and like I do need to rest at some point you can't be depressed and burnt out that's a terrible combo#was looking at a dtp/typesetting short course and 1) I'll need a new computer that can actually run design programs#and 2) the course itself is like 2 month's salaries which I cannot realistically save right now#and yet I'm still ''over-qualified'' for entry level positions because I went to uni. well maybe that's just a polite excuse#because as interesting as my humanities degrees were they didn't equip me with any practical or marketable skills#besides being good at reading and writing. but AI can do that for free now so that's not helpful#I always thought I was reasonably intelligent but I cannot solve this puzzle. there must be a creative solution that I'm missing#but i feel so stuck and trapped#and at least once a week some poor soul stumbles in to the office practically begging for a job so I feel bad for complaining#a little truly is better than nothing#but thank god we elected more pro-business capitalists into government that really is going to be great for us workers (sarcasm)#also I should acknowledge#I am getting some déjà vu. I feel like I've vented about this topic before#the difference is. back then it was a potential concern. now the concern has materialised into reality and rendered the situation desperate

Just had a very terrifying conversation with my partner about AI and the future of uh. Society as we know it. So naturally I'm in a bit of an anxiety spiral about it.
The short version is that the plagiarism concerns are the tippy tip of the iceberg, and if AI doesn't get regulated quickly, we could potentially be looking at some uhhhh BIG FUCKING PROBLEMS. Like I'm not trying to be alarmist or paranoid but shit is very likely to hit the fan in a big way. Keep your eyes peeled, particularly over the next 18 months. And pray that he's wrong.
Anyway, just uh. Something to think about the next time you see one of those funny AI generated vids of Obama and Biden dunking on Trump in Minecraft or something.
#us politics#anti ai#doom posting#sorry to get serious on main but like#the creative and service sectors are about to get destroyed#also tech#did y'all know ChatGPT can code?#yeah me either. but it can.#there are. so many issues compounding.#but we could very well be on the cusp of a dystopian nightmare#yes worse than currently#it can absolutely get worse#and it's about to#anyway i hate it here#lp bitches#lp is not having a good time#lp is in fact having Anxiety.#bc partner has been dead on with every prediction over the last 2 years#not trying to turn this into a political blog but like#my views on this stuff come out in my writing#so here we are lol#also yes i know this is vague I'm trying not to freak myself out more okay

#finally made progress on my fic!!! and boy.#it's incredible how the human brain/body works sometimes#i didn't realize how much stress i was carrying about so many different things#in so many sectors of my life#i've taken care of maybe 85% or so of them#at the beginning of the week (or even 48 hours ago) that was closer to 20% or 30%#so huge amount of progress#but because of all this stress i was finding it so fucking hard to write or be creative to any significant capacity#and i kept trying to edit this chapter and just being completely unable to write it#not even because of writers block or anything i think i was just so wound up i couldn't make the words happen properly#in the way i wanted them to#and i couldn't figure out why the whole chapter structure just felt wrong#i knew something needed to be deleted and the timeline was off and and and#but i couldn't figure any of it out#anyways#i took care of all these tasks this week#i sat down after not touching this fix for maybe a week and a half#and i just wrote and fixed the issues in maybe 30 minutes#wow#there's still more to do but the fact that it flowed finally in the way it usually does...🥹#finally finally finally!!!#bc i love making shit about things that i like more than almost anything#and i love sharing the shit that i make#and i think i've been lacking that for a bit because i haven't been able to write#honestly i think that's why i've taken up gif making a bit#because it gives a similar feeling of creation and then sharing with others#even if its maybe not as long-term laborious it still takes effort and creativity#but easier to do when i don't have time to spare but just feel the need to make make make#but anyways#i'm just happy i finally feel good enough to write

always so confused when i see people say things like "only triple A cutscene-heavy games are considered art these days!!" because i see tiny lil indie games get called art all the time. ones that dont even have raytracing, even.
#in fact i hear them spoken about as art MORE often than i hear AAA games#lots of AAAs are seen as fodder when you go into the right circles. as samey and repetative spectacles that dont measure up#to the creativity and artistry of the indie sector#not saying theyre right BUT in the rigt corners thats a very popular way of seeing things

An Author Sparks Creativity Among Young Creators.
From immersing herself in the world of literature to crafting her own stories, Chidera Okolie has been nurturing her creative interests since she was a child. The Nigerian lawyer and writer is the author of two novels, When Silence Becomes Too Loud (2014) and Not Forgiven (2017). Beyond her passion for writing, Okolie is actively encouraging young writers in Nigeria to fulfil their writing dreams through her Idios Creatives initiative, which she launched in 2018. This is her story. Chidera Okolie set up Idios Creatives, a platform for young people to explore and express their creativity. “Through the Idios Creatives project, I wanted to provide a platform for a new generation of writers to embrace their creative power. It is my way of contributing to the development of young peopleʼs writing and other creative skills,” Okolie explains. To capture the attention of young people across Nigeria, in 2018, Okolie created the Idios Prize for Flash Fiction and Poetry. Over 300 schoolchildren took part in the competition. “We visited schools across Nigeria, collecting short stories from young writers. Eventually, we had about 300 stories, which we narrowed down to the best 100 for publication. This has helped showcase the abundance of creative talent in Nigeria,” Okolie notes. In setting up Idios Creatives, her strongest hope is that “young people are encouraged to read more and to explore their own creativity.”
Advancing IP and creativity in Nigeria
The author is also a champion of intellectual property rights, highlighting their crucial importance in recognizing, rewarding and supporting creators for their work. “IP allows you to protect your creative work from exploitation, illegal reproduction and misuse. It also ensures the preservation of your economic rights, in other words, your ability to earn income from your work, and your moral rights, including the right to be credited as the creator, and the right to protect the integrity of your work,” Okolie explains. While Nigeria has made progress in this regard, Okolie believes there is still more to be done to enhance the countryʼs copyright landscape. “Nigeria has long suffered from piracy, but the landscape is graduallyimproving. I strongly believe that IP rights play a critical role in emboldening artists to safeguard their work and use it for economic benefits. This becomes particularly significant when building a career based on oneʼs creativity,” she says. Okolie started writing her first novel, When Silence Becomes Too Loud, in 2014, without any intention of sharing it outside her personal sphere. “It was purely a personal endeavor,” she notes. But her father insisted that she have her book published. “I was hesitant to reveal myself so intimately and to allow others to delve into my innermost creative thoughts," she says. Despite her initial fears, Okolie started looking for a publisher and the bookʼs release, in 2014, exceeded all her expectations. “The book was widely acclaimed in my country and gained a lot of attention. It caught the eye of my countryʼs former president, who expressed his pride in associating with young people who strive to keep creativity alive in the country,” Okolie explains.
Her outstanding novel earned her three awards, including the 2016 Nigerian Writers Award for Best Fiction Writer of the Year and a nomination for the African Achieverʼs award. Building on her success, Okolieʼs second publication, Not Forgiven, is a collection of short psychological thrillers and also won accolades, paving the way for her to receive Most Outstanding Fiction Writer of the Year in 2017. In January 2019, Okolie was listed among the 100 Most Influential Young Nigerians by Avance Media.
