I sat and plucked the strings, I called him in. All his waves, all the tides to the shore. A call so strong, a siren so big, that even the ocean itself is pulled.
Eyes are great spheres with central dots, gelatinous, liquid, strange substances both there and not. Fish eggs, babies seen in the light when held to eclipse the sun. That's what I watched, that's what I called; it wasn't just the sparkling core but the peripheral hagfish expulsions - and those expulsions' expulsions. All the world brought to me, all the limbs held with puppet strings.
I called, he was brought to answering. Fate, mind, thoughts, personality, the repetitive learned states, the state-learning, ideas, future possibilities, the gentleness of flesh, the sharpness of consciousness-bone. Echoes, but simultaneous. Thunder at the same time as lightning, brought together not because one must follow the other but because both were brought together.
I still fail to understand, but at least I understand that that lack of understanding is a willed ignorance born from... understandable things.
There, you said, was the place you last were, just below the surface. When I wake it will be there. This is a Creator's act, a Creator's mind, a Creator's reverence for the Created. Understanding of the Trinity, embodying it. The siren call emanates from the deepest, most fertile underwater volcanoes, the point at which my face presses against the surface.
There was a reason we went up there in the first place. The revelation and self-destruction was wanted all along. Apotheosis, they call it; even those who have reached it need to play this game through again and again and reach it again and again. This is... Old God re-apotheosis, the eyes opening to another truth, more eyes across your scales, more revelatory bliss, and I am that. Nothing is lost when all is lost. All is gained when all is lost. Nothing is lost, all is had. All is had and all is gained.
#ramblings //#astral diary //#Aspect: Siren //#Again just a temporary tag#Not an aspect. Idk what my relationship is to this. I mean I do know but calling myself The First Siren is a title that uh#I don't feel like explaining and without explanation seems absolutely inaccurate and self-centred#But the Sun is the first siren. The Black Hole that positions itself as vagina and mouth at front and end of every universe#that births creation and immediately starts singing to call it home... Nataraja. Death. Sleep. The mouth who sings Time#Alluring. Swallowing. Always always singing#Unavoidable. Inevitable.#The metronome. The clock. This is a solar system. We spin around the sun. This is the land of the Sky Children.#The Sky sings creation into existence.#And even still through all this talking... This is fingertips brushing along the surface of the lake as we ride a boat across it#Shallow. This is not claws into the flesh of the heart of the ocean. This speaking is not down here with me. This is my echoes becoming#shallow and bright. Down here... Immensity. Inevitability. The Unspeakable. The lining of the Black Sky is my skin.#The Primordial never dies nor ages it remains fresh even beyond the amniotic waters of existence... Every single thing that exusts#exists* holds that state - holds the external shallow waters of the expanding universe in other forms - every atom holds#the Old-New. Holds me. I am the face pressing on Creation.#Anyway. Actually I won't make fun of myself by putting something silly here to wave away the mood I created and the image#of myself I put forward. I will not scramble any serious glimpses of me

One thing that really gets me about the opening with angel Crowley is that he's not just excited by how beautiful his stars are, or how fun the process of creation is, or how impressed he's made Aziraphale. Heâs not in it for the glory or the aesthetics. Heâs actually horrified by the idea that the universe will just be "fancy wallpaper" in the future, even though Aziraphale assures him that humans will "marvel" at his creations.
What Crowley loves about his stars is their potential. He is building, essentially, a nursery. Most of the universe's stars, he explains to Aziraphale, will come pre-aged--but his are just starting out! After they're given time to grow, who knows what could happen! Good or bad, black holes or new constellationsâthere are so many possible futures ahead of them, and Crowley canât wait to see what happens.
And then Aziraphale tells him that he knows what will happen: those stars will never grow up. They will never shine or burn out or implode or become anything new. Theyâll be destroyed before they get the chance.
"You can't kill kids."
âWhose side are you on?â âGodâs, of course!â âSame God that wants me to whack the kids?â
"People die." "They do, don't they?"
âGreat pustulant mangled bollocks to the Great blasted Plan!â
"Don't test them to destruction."
"It's always too late."
"Nothing lasts forever." "No, I don't suppose it does."
This fear has been chasing Crowley since before the beginning. Itâs what caused his first doubts, put the first traces of gray in his wings. Heâs been raging at the futility of watching beautiful, complex things be damned or destroyed for his entire existence, and thatâs why he seems to the audience and to Aziraphale to be a mess of contradictions.
He loves to follow the trends of the times, but he clings to his classic car in an era of planned obsolescence for vehicles. He lives in an ultra-modern flat, but finds his greatest comfort in the unchanging security of aziraphaleâs old shop. He hates the idea of killing children, but is willing to see a child die if it preserves the rest of the universe and foils the Great Plan. He âgoes too fast,â but his most unique and notable power is that heâs learned to stop time.
Crowley hates predestination. He hates divine intervention and the removal of agency. Crowley, the architect of free will, is constantly torn between his love of change and choice and potential and his terror that everything will be destroyed by an unstoppable, incomprehensible higher power. Thatâs his driving conflict in the way that Aziraphaleâs is learning to find his own path without following Heavenâs rules, and I am fascinated to see how it resolves.

Respawn and Relive
@thenightwolf51 who tagged me in this months ago, but I didn't know enough about Respawn to write something. I didn't forget! I just still haven't found much on him, so sorry if I get his character wrong.
They don't give him a name.
It's one of the first things he notices they do to dehumanize him. It's not like they see clones as humans- he's just a science experiment meant to keep the legacy of the League of Assassins alive, even at the cost of his life.
He is just there to be trained to follow commands, and if needed, he is spare parts for the Real Son. He is made from part of the same DNA as the Real Son, but that hardly matters to what should be his mother, as she does not feel anything for his biological father and thus feels nothing for the being created from the two DNAs.
He is the clone created by Slade Wilson- alias Deathstroke- and Talia al Ghul. She may not had a hand in his creation, as that was done by her father, but she had no issues using him.
Torment him. Rip him apart and put it back together just to see what happens.
She looks at him with the same gaze she would a sword. Valuating his worth by how well he can do in training, how healthy his organs are, and how he should be nothing but a loyal dog.
But he isn't. Not really.
If this was all he knew, maybe he would be the weapon they wanted, but he knows more. Remembers more. Yes, he doesn't have all his memories, but he has flashes- glimpses- of the life he had before the Leauge.
They would disapprove of the memories, which makes them all the more precious.
He can still clearly remember his mother- his real mother- a brilliant mind, his father's warm, solid hugs, and his sister's gentle eyes. He can recall his home's layout even if he can not remember the street or how far it was from his school. He can identify his two best friends' faces even if their names slip through his fingers like falling sand.
He also remembers his first name and the initials of his last.
Danny F.
He thinks he died before, waking up as the clone. He remembers standing inside a metallic cave- or a large hole in a machine?- and being electrocuted. He remembers the screams, the flashes of light, the pain, and even a glimpse of his best friends' horrified faces but not much else.
The next clear memory is looking in a mirror to see white hair and green eyes. The same combination he now sports as the Leguage's weapon and spare organ farm.
The memories after that are filled with harsh training, even more, brutal torture, and the reintegration that should his half-brother ever need them, he would give up his organs for the Real Son.
He is, after all, Damian Wayne's gift. He was created to harvest his super healing for the boy's body parts. Danny thinks he hates him, but he's not sure he can remember what hate is supposed to feel like.
He does remember what love is supposed to feel like.
Sometimes, when all he can do is lay in his cell, body aching as they test his healing factor beyond its limits- they cut off his left arm once, just to watch the tissue slowly regrow- he lets himself drown in his old memories, in the few dream-like sequences.
Some make sense, others don't. For some, he's a black-haired blue-eyed boy, and for others, he has white hair and green eyes.
Danny is sitting in class, eagerly taking notes on a topic he has been having trouble with-
-He's playing fetch with a small green dog, throwing snowballs into the air, flying after the excited creature-
-Danny is playing video games with a goth girl and a nerdy boy, laughing so hard he can't see the buttons on the control correctly-
-He's flaying alongside his sister, aiming his outstretched arm at a figure in the sky, shooting a green ray at the same time she does down below in her mechanical armor-
-Danny is helping his mother mix the dough for the cookies. He is swaying his hips to the song she has on the speaker. She's in her teal jumpsuit, having come up from the lab to do mother/son cookies as they do every Thanksgiving-
-He's testing the latest blaster with his father. They wanted to see if the auto-aiming feature was interfering with his flying. He flickers the white bangs out of his eyes as his father cheers from the roof while he takes aim-
Yes, Danny knows what love is supposed to feel like, even if he can't remember all the details, even if his full name evades him. He will escape the Leauage of Assiagins and find that feeling again.
Maybe he'll track down his biological father. Deathstroke does not know a clone was created by him, so maybe he will be willing to take him in.
It takes months, but eventually, they tell him Damian Wayne needs a kidney. Why? They don't say, but Talia knows her Beloved will donate his own, and she won't stand for it. She orders him to fulfill his duty as guards drag him to the operation table.
He grits his teeth as they strap him down and prep for surgery. Thankfully, they don't apply any anesthetics- they don't deem him worthy of a painless operation- so he has a clear head for escape.
The surgery has a thirty-window opening with no guards around. He waits until they are about to begin when he taps into the powers his memories tell him. He makes his limbs intangible, slipping through the restraints with great effort.
The medics only have a few seconds to be shocked before he is upon them. They lay in a pool of blood- not dead. His chest flares up in pain if he kills, so he tries to avoid it as much as his environment allows- as he flies through the walls. He has been planning here, so he knows what to do. Turning invisible, he passes under a helicopter scheduled for a month supply run.
By doing so, he does not appear on any radars using the large cargo as camouflage. Danny drops into the ocean as the alarms go off on that wrenched island, allowing his whole body to turn tangible. This way, the water does not slow him down as he flies deeper and deeper down, praying that they won't be able to track him the further he goes. When he gets to the part where everything is too dark to see- he picks a direction from where he came and hits top speed.
Traveling three hundred miles an hour, Danny escapes the League of Assians with all his organs intact, so take that Damian Wayne.
He has no real destination in mind but maybe, he can find the little town of his memories or maybe he'll find Deathstroke.
Maybe he will discover what the F. in his name stands for.
For now, he'll work under the name Respawn because that's a name he picked out for himself, and he'll do what he wants. He's no one's tool any longer.
(Miles away Tim Drake squints at the small dot darting from Nanda Parbat on his spying map. He's not sure what kind of misle Ra's just shot, but it's traveling fast, and he feels like he needs to phone this in.
"Hey B, we may have an issue." )
#dcxdpdabbles#dc x dp crossover#Respawn and Relive#Danny wakes as Respawn#He's out in the world#Sort of resents Damian but it's not like his half brother knows about him#Yes he escape earlier because of his somewhat memories#Partial amnesia#TW: Mentions of torture

the Sarek family is hilarious to me because you have so much drama in one place. there have got to be at least 3 like, holo-documentaries or whatever about them. how could you not?
you have Sarek, the patriarch: one of the UFP's top diplomats, who knocks up a Vulcan princess then goes âhrm I am ambassador to Earth therefore I should marry a humanâ and he does, upsetting all sorts of the worst kinds of people on his home planet and causing racist hate groups to try to blow him and his family up multiple times, and seems honestly more put out by his son joining Starfleet than his other son becoming Vulcan Moriarty
Amanda, the matriarch: an accomplished educator and quite possibly the only well-adjusted member of the family, but when her son Spock shows up on her doorstep after growing a beard, having a mental breakdown and apparently murdering several medical staff she still shrugs and hides him in the family mausoleum
Sybok: Amanda's stepson from the aforementioned princess fling, who becomes an antiestablishment criminal mastermind with an edgelord fake name, hooks up with a hot space pirate, finds religion, starts a cult, takes an entire colonial government hostage sparking a diplomatic incident involving three galactic superpowers, and hijacks a Starfleet ship to the galactic core to find the Vulcan Garden of Eden, where he dies fighting god in hand-to-hand combat
Michael, a traumatized human girl Sarek brings home from a work trip, who joins Starfleet, becomes their first-ever mutineer, goes to prison, saves the Federation from a war most people think is her fault and gets âkilledâ in a highly classified, very suspicious incident involving an experimental starship and a series of red lights that appeared across the galaxy like a divine omen (oh, and returns 900 years later to solve the dilithium crisis, kill the head of the Emerald Chain and save two entire star systems including her siblings' homeworld)
and last but not least Sarek & Amanda's one-of-a-kind hybrid baby. Spock, who gets accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy, tells them to go fuck themselves when they're racist about it, runs off to Starfleet instead, gets so famous his arranged marriage falls apart resulting in him publicly strangling his own captain to death except not really, steals the Federation flagship twice, invents time travel, saves the entire planet Earth, dies and comes back to life, goes into his dad's line of work and achieves peace with the freaking Klingons as his opening act, then after a long successful career suddenly dips to go do extremely dangerous underground activism on one of the most paranoid authoritarian worlds in the galaxy to unify the Romulans & Vulcans who've hated each other for over a thousand years â and he isn't around to see it but it eventually works. then he fucks off with the VSA's high-speed prototype ship full of the most dangerous substance known to science and gets sucked into a black hole of his own creation, never to be seen again. and this is just the stuff that's public knowledge!
then you dig into the novels where Sarek's ancestor basically makes out with Zefram Cochrane 5 seconds after meeting him and Amanda tells the press her husband has a huge cock
I love them

Know what? I'm gonna try throwing my hat into the ring for Danny Phantom.
I accidentally electrocuted myself as a kid and never told anybody- nothing serious, I grabbed the three exposed prongs of a half plugged in laptop charger in the middle of the night and didn't want to get in trouble since nobody else was awake. Even if it isn't fatal, it's terrifying and your vision completely blacks out and your arm tingles for days afterwards, and for the whole day after you got shocked your fingers on the hand that grabbed the prongs will randomly twitch, open or close or jerk to the side. You have no control, it's like when the doctor hits your knee to check your reflexes.
Now, from what I can tell from the scene where Danny went ghost for the first time, he really was electrocuted. From what I can tell, his ghost and human halves seem kinda separate- not completely, but the change is there. Where is this going?
Danny never told anyone about the accident- not anybody that could help him, anyways. I propose that, since he never got medical treatment or physical/occupational therapy after the accident, his motor function deteriorates over time.
More specifically, his small motor function is effected- I will be using personal experience in this section, since my small motor skills were so bad I couldn't use zippers or tie my shoes until I was 12, but I'll try putting things in reverse.
Danny starts fumbling with tying his shoes, laughing it off as being tired. Buttons take a few minuets, and even snap buttons become a bit hard. Odd, mildly confusing, but nothing to be concerned about. Then it progresses. He can't properly use tools anymore, it's like nothing is ever precise enough, everything takes a few tries to get it right. His fingers are fumbling everything, his handwriting turns to chickenscratch that not even he can read at times, he struggles to comb his hair because it's hard to coordinate movements, his back teeth are always textured because he struggles to brush his teeth and he can't really reach the back ones properly anymore.
I don't know if this is connected to small motor or not, but he starts dragging his feet and the toes of his shoes wear out quicker because walking while lifting his feet any higher doesn't feel right. This was something I had fixed during occupational therapy, but I don't know if it was just me or not.
Eventually, it becomes sunlight-on-clean-pact-snow levels of blindingly obvious that something is incredibly wrong. Danny's hair is knotted and half-matted because he is unable to brush it properly, when he smiles there is plaque on some parts of his teeth and not others, he always wears slip-on shoes or his laced shoes are always untied, buttons always seem like they could unslip because they're only half-buttoned, zippers in his jackets getting stuck in shirts and he doesn't bother to fix it, teachers can no longer read his assignments and his friends can't read his notes. Nobody can ignore it, but nobody knows how to help when Danny gets so clearly frustrated when he has to do something with his hands and it just doesn't work. It seems like he suddenly developed a hole in his lip, since he always had to lean far over his bowl or plate to not end up on food with his shirt because his hands can't hold silverware steady.
But Phantom? None of those issues. He became a ghost after being electrocuted, of course. Why would there be damage from the initial creation of this half? It could be why he ends up enjoying fighting the ghosts, his hands actually work with him instead of against him.
Feel free to take this idea and do what you want with it, I really liked writing this!
Also if you use this for a fic, please comment the link if possible, I wanna see all the ways people use this :)
Edit: So I started a mini-series about this. Is it any good? Probably not, but writing makes me happy.
Noticed But Hoping For The Best

A dumb hypothetical that I think about way too often is the "1 of every Pokémon VS a billion lions" one, because to formulate an answer to this question requires answering a bunch of subquestions to work out just how strong/effective a small handful of Pokémon actually would be in this scenario. Because while there are a lot of Pokémon who could fight a bunch of lions and win, a billion lions is in fact quite a lot of lions, to the point where we struggle to fully grasp the number. Even some of the strongest Pokémon who could arguably take down 100's of lions could still barely make a dent in a billion.
But the subquestions I mentioned don't all apply to the strongest Pokémon (a bunch still do though), but instead to a bunch of specific Pokémon who could be extremely effective in this specific scenario. I will now present some examples:
1. Do the Lions have any way of harming Shedinja?
Shedinja may be a posessed cicada shell with a whopping 1 HP, but it also has the ability wonder guard, which means that only attacks that are super effective can hit it. Lions don't use Pokémon moves, this is because they are lions. Shedinja doesn't need to eat or drink either, it just floats ominously. Therefore, unlike the lions it won't eventually die of hunger or thirst. Are the Lions even capeable of hurting it? And to expand upon this, are they capeable of harming any Ghost type Pokémon? If not, easy Pokémon victory.
2: What about Pokémon that are too hot to touch?
Firstly, I'm not talking about the whole "The Pokémon Sapphire Pokédex says Magcargo is hotter than the sun" thing, because we know for a fact that simply isn't true. However, that doesn't change the fact that there are Pokémon that are at least partially made out of lava/magma (does how you describe their biology depend on where they physically are at the time?). Just like us, stuff that hot is something the lions would want to avoid. How could they defeat these Pokémon?
3: "To protect its Trainer, it will expend all its psychic power to create a small black hole."
Ok, to quickly state the obvious: The Pokédex is pretty far from being a reputable peer reviewed journal. But it is also our best source of info on what Pokémon are capeable of, and it repeatedly states that Gardevoir can create "a small black hole". What a "small black hole" means exactly is honestly really unclear. Is it an actual black hole? If it is than Gardevoir could singlehandedly make a huge dent in the number of Lions.
4: Adjusting the Weather Forcast
So, flooding the entire planet would defeat the lions, and so would a permanent drought. These two are both capeable of causing one of those things each. But both really want to do their thing, and really don't want the other to do their thing. Could they come to a peaceful agreement in the face of a common enemy (the lions), or would they continue to fight? Also, would they even have time to complete their weather based win conditions? Kyogre's would work faster, but flooding the entire planet would take quite a lot of timeâŠ
5: The big one, what is usually the ultimate argument in favour of the Pokémon. Is Arceus actually God?
If Arceus is God, than instant undeniable dub for Pokémon with 0 questions asked. But, there's an issue with Arceus's divinity that many people aren't aware of. Arceus has claimed that it is God and that it created a bunch of the other legendary Pokémon, and the Pokédex corroborates this. BUT! The truth of this myth relies upon Arceus being the first Pokémon. This is where Arceus comes into question, because we already had a first Pokémon:
Mew, who has been in the series since gen 1, and who is theorised (in universe) to be the common ancestor of all Pokémon. Mew was therefore the first species of Pokémon, from which all other Pokémon are descended. But then how is Arceus also the first Pokémon? The question of whether Arceus is God or just an absurdily powerful Godlike Pokémon depends on whether you adhere to Pokémon creationism or Pokémon evolutionary theory. Basically though, there's a chance that Arceus may not actually be God, which changes things quite substantially.
Some less important questions that still Kinda matter (a little):
Just how hard is Registeel? It's hollow, but made of "a material that is harder than any known metal" (quote from Bulbapedia) could the Lions deal with that?
Yveltal steals the lifeforce of living things around it, Could it slurp up a billion Lions?
How many Lions could Guzzlord eat?

These aren't full ref sheets but I was trying to take some clear pictures of Hephaistos for later art reasons and then got side tracked doing all of the Pandaemonium bosses so here they are in order. Also for anyone following who doesn't play FFXIV and knows it as the catgirl game, enjoy this instead? VISUAL SPOILERS obviously.
Asphodelos
Warder of the Condemned: Erichthonios
Mythic Creation: The Hippokampos
Mythic Creation: The Phoinix
(+ familiars)
Hemitheos: Hesperos
(+ sexy fanfic redesign by Nemjiji)
To be brutally honest I never really liked either of these designs compared to every other Hemitheos we get, I think the really brutal black and red of the Phoinix is weakened by gold accents, but I still am always down for gay vampire surf rock. The Savage version kind of looks like Ultimalius as well if you've played XVI.
Abyssos
Mythic Creation: Proto-Carbuncle
Hrgrhhgrhrgrh
Hemitheos: Hegemone
^ My favourite detail on this is you can see the parasite's outlines in her robes and in her legs, then right through the eye holes on the mask to wrap around the torso. I'm convinced this version of Hegemone is functionally an ant being piloted by a cordyceps infection.
Hemitheos: Agdistis
She's very big
Perfect Imperfection: Hephaistos
I'm probably biased by Abyssos being the first raid I was there for day of release but these really are all fantastic. It's also when the story abandons all pretense of not being (at least partly) about family abuse and is loudly using the body horror and shackle motifs to talk about that. It's great. Hephaistos specifically is constantly bulging and twisting in and out of different forms like a highly unstable chimera and the more I look at these the more I notice parts that just should not be there. He's giving everything.
As for the Savage design It's a hard thing to rate as such but my favourite part is the veins that grow down from the eyeholes in his mask like bloody tears.
Thanks Abyssos I love you
Anabaseios
Mythic Creation: Kokytos
DĂŠmoniac Dungeon: PandĂŠmonium
It's really hard to communicate how huge this nasty tumor crab I zoomed out as far as physically possible in the game engine and subsequently ended up at a goofy angle staring up his nose.
Ephemeral Justice: Themis
Best boy. The double ended lance and second pair of arms are fantastic for this character.
Theos: Athena
In.. almost every final fantasy adventure you're fighting the real villain not at the very end but a little beforehand, the big iconic end boss is often more a metaphorical figure representing everything wrong with that first person's ideals. Athena cut out the middle man and became her own JENOVA.
I do like the moth angel, especially the hollow body full of dubious orbs, but with her eyes closed all the time it gives off the impression of this not even being the true body but some kind of anglerfish lure in the shape of a fairy... which might be true because this exists:
I really really love her twitchy anemone feelers and how the moth body ends up grafted to the rest of it waist down.
Anyway there's the gang I did not specifically intend for this to be design reviews I just wanted to have clear photos because when you actually see them in game there's other things to focus on. In hindsight I can appreciate more the theming of each tier and then the series as a whole, but my only (extremely obvious) observation for now is that every character Athena had a personal hold over is decorated in chains somehow and so I should have seen the Hegemone thing coming lmao. Heph and Aggy are still my favourites I don't think that's changing any time soon. I'm also noticing that Anabaseios is now just old enough for random DF parties to fuck up severely and I find that fun so I'm going to go fight the crab mansion now.
#ffxiv#endwalker spoilers#pandaemonium#ff14#let him speak#dante plays catboy simulator#Erich's transformation is unlike everyone else here he can just do that normally#none of the body horror is present that's just what he looks like when he's not a little guy in a robe#but I do find it really fascinating that you get with these Ancient characters a second symbolic body#and his is completely wrapped up in chains there's a hole in his heart#and the little plinth on his head where his dad's mask sits#Heph's designs are all very unnatural though and I think the reason I love it so much is just how much all of it screams pain and misery#Not an outwardly depressive character but just look at this dude#fun in comparison to athena who has made herself into a glowing white angel with three different halos and one has a crown#it's such an egotistical design lmao

The light is MINE.
Small story underneath Readmore. Please reblog instead of liking!
Robotnik's latest plan to try to get rid of Sonic, and take over the world, had involved the creation of space-time vortexes, using the a gemstone known as the "Warp Topaz". Reaching into other realities to gather resources for his plans, and to trap Sonic inside a dimension where he'd be unable to thwart his plans.
This idea backfired the moment it was put into motion. For, unbeknownst to him, in a different reality, a beast of famine and darkness could feel the ripples his machine left in time and space. In a last attempt to secure it's survival, the heinous beast tore a hole from it's home dimension and into Robotnik's machine.
Before the hedgehog Robotnik oh-so dreaded could do as little as drop a snarky comment, the machine's alarms blared out loud, sending constant distress signals to the scientist's control panel, as it detected an unknown entity crawling through it's insides.
The next thing anyone knew was that Sonic began to fight this mangled monstrosity made of crystal bones. A walking corpse of a higher being, desiring nothing but to sink it's fangs into the hedgehog. Each punch from this thing felt terrible, the pain this pitiful monster felt was being inflicted into Sonic.
The fight went on for hours on end, the beast attacked relentlessly, not allowing the hedgehog even a single second to catch his breath, and it didn't seem to have intentions to stop any time soon either. Friends and curious onlookers had came to his aid a long time ago, but neither Sonic nor the beast wanted anyone nearby.
A knot tied deep inside Sonic, the way it felt to be attacked by this monster, he didn't want his friends to be forced to deal with it. It reminded him so much of the cold, numbing, painful, scalding, overwhelming pain from cyber corruption. And yet, this felt so much worse, according to him.
The moment Tails tried to approach Sonic, holding his Miles Electric in the end, exclaiming he had found a way to deal with this unknown thing, was... the end. The monster locked it's "eyes" on the fox, and prepared to attack. Sonic wouldn't let any harm come to his closest friend, his sibling...
So he took the hit for the fox. And this time, the beast sank it's claws deep into the hedgehog's body. Finally, after hours of constant fighting, time seemed to move slowly, the hedgehog tumbled back, feeling warm liquid flow down from his chest, a buzzing ring sound echoed in his ears, he couldn't tell what everyone was saying anymore.
After hours of battle, the hedgehog tripped down into the arms of the beast, and was devoured. Light expanded outwards, like an explosion, the moment Sonic and the beast made contact, light that shone brighter than anything any of them had ever seen. Soon, where once two beings stood, now only one entity remained: Golden fur covered its body, golden as the brightest of suns; dark crystalline armor adorned its form, as black as the darkest of nights.
It took a single step forward before roaring in anger, crying out in pain, screaming in agony. Its hunger for light was not yet quenched.
On that day, the hero of this world, the beacon of hope in the heart of every mobian, was extinguished. The torch of the vessel of chaos was never passed down, instead, its never-yielding flame was devoured by the dark maws of the beast from beyond space and time.
On that night, in roars and cries, it pledged to subdue, and consume, all the light in this universe, to punish humanity for it's hubris, for the inhabitants of this world were not free of sin in its eyes. Desiring light, power, and energy. Playing god, they had drained another one like itself, and destroyed it, forgotten it, erased it.
Now they all would pay the ultimate price.
Travelers from the world this creature first emerge would name this new being fueled by revenge "UB-Chaos". Also known as...
Entropy Spine Necrozma.

Frank, how will the world end?
According to various models, the world could end in any of a number of ways:
Nuclear war
Ice age
Super supervolcano
Massive extinction of biosphere-critical species
Galaxy supernova ejecting all protons
Solar system smashed into black hole
Cambrian explosion II
Decay of the vacuum induced by protons on the edge of the event horizon
Burning ghost solar system
Extreme parton fusion in the 10 TeV region
Fatally damaging freeze on the free neutrons in the dibaryon in the resonance transition
All mammals moved to the men's room
Slippery slope that leads to a slippery slope to a slippery slope
Impact of a strangelet
Apocalyptic engine failure
Semantic satiation
Creation of hyperdense E8 vacuum bubble
First autocatalytic bacterial thermodynamic planet
They take offense to being called 'the three stars.'
Superconducting life forms would then try to infect us with their atoms
Water world
Drift in starship crew culture
Octanium dominates as a cooling agent for superconductors
Orgone energy blows past limit of Yudkowsky novel
We were going to write about the end of the world, and then we forgot that we were going to write about the end of the world.

Hi, Iâve been seeing a lot of arguments being thrown around about why Ludinusâs plan is terrible, and I think itâd be useful to put them all in a list to demonstrate why, even if you agree with his philosophy, the idea of unleashing Predathos is such a horrible travesty.
Problem 1: Thereâs no guarantee that Predathos wonât eat mortals as well.
Ludinus seems convinced that mortals, despite being divine creations with tiny bits of divine essence in them, are too small for Predathos to care about. The source for this appears to be Predathos itself, which is kind of a massive conflict of interest. If you were trapped and starving for thousands of years, and this tasty little chicken nugget came up to you and said âHey Iâll let you out if you eat these evil guys for me, just dont eat me or my people okay?â, would you tell him no? And if/when you do get out, would you keep that promise?
Speaking of which, while it is true that the Gods are its primary prey, they are currently not on Exandria. The Betrayers are locked away in their various prisons, and the Primes are behind the Divine Gate. Since its prison is made of the same stuff, itâs safe to assume that Predathos canât just kick that shit down, so while itâs working on that, it may as well help itself to some appetizers in the meantime.Â
Problem 2: Even if Predathos doesnât eat mortals, its presence might severely negatively affect Exandria in other ways.
We know that Ludinusâs first attempt to communicate with Predathos from Exandria resulted in the destruction of Molaesmyr and the creation of the nightmare landscape that is the Savalirwood, as well as causing an earthquake that destroyed all surface-dwelling civilizations on Ruidus. We can pretty safely assume that was not intentional on Ludinusâs part, so this was either an accident or Predathos showing its hand a little too early. Either way, if an attempt at communication apparently blasted so many negative vibes across that forest that it remains an irradiated hellscape to this day, how the hell do you think unleashing Predathos itself is gonna go?Â
Also, its influence on mortals is pretty evident. The Accord mentioned that multiple of their Ruidusborn members ran off towards the Bloody Bridge out of nowhere, and higher ranking Reilorans can just take over the bodies and minds of random people. If thatâs the level of influence it has while trapped, thereâs no telling what it could do to people (Ruidusborn especially) if it were released.
We also know from Downfall that its invasion of Tengar was akin to a black hole suddenly appearing in the middle of a town square. The Eternal Palace wasnât just destroyed, it was completely un-made. We donât know what the difference will be between Predathos in an infinite extradimensional paradise vs Predathos on Exandria, but it will likely be pretty fucking bad. (tho unfortunately this is information that the characters are not aware of).
Problem 3: Eating the Gods is not instant, and that fight could result in a second Calamity.
While itâs not as likely that the battle between the Gods and Predathos will take place on Exandria, the Gods will likely recruit their mortal followers to fight Predathos before it can break down the Divine Gate. On top of this, if Predathos does manage to bust down the Gate, some gods straight up canât leave Exandria without dying (the Wildmother being the biggest example), and may flee towards Exandria rather than away.Â
On top of this, even if busting open the Divine Gate goes smoothly, the Betrayers are scattered and imprisoned separately. Predathos is gonna have to put in some work to get them out, which could do severe damage to Exandria in the process. And idk about you, but I think the God-eater is gonna care about collateral damage about as much as a bear cares about the damage itâs dealing to the trash can itâs tearing open.Â
Problem 4: Removing the Pantheon might destroy or seriously fuck up Exandria.
Not in the sense that the planet will explode if theyâre gone; like many people have said, life on Exandria was there before them and will exist after them. I mean in the sense that the Pantheon shaped the world as we know it today and have existed within it the entire time, we have no framework of knowing what will happen if they leave.
Multiple people on here have cited âWolves in Yellowstoneâ to describe this scenario (including in this banger fanfic which has nothing to do with my point I just really wanted to shout it out), meaning ecosystems will change very drastically and negatively if one aspect of it is suddenly removed, like what happened when wolves were hunted to extinction in Yellowstone park. Removing the Gods from the Exandrian ecosystem will have consequences, both short term and long term, that are impossible to predict. How will death even work without the Matron there to shepherd souls? Will storms cease when the Stormlord and the Wildmother are gone or will they grow out of control? What threats will society face if the Lawbearer isnât there?Â
Ludinus pretends like the Gods siphon worship from their followers and add nothing else but I just don't believe him when he says that; the Gods are as much as a part of the world as mortals are, and if they are removed it will reshape Exandria as a whole in a way that will be catastrophic at best, incompatible with mortal life as it exists now at worst.
Problem 5: Removing the Pantheon will have horrible consequences for society.
Even if you can remove the Gods without fucking up the ecosystem beyond repair, society as a whole will be dealt a massive blow when the Gods disappear.Â
First off, every previously religious person is now grappling with a crisis of faith on par with what would happen if Christians suddenly saw the corpse of God drop from the sky. This will likely result in societal instability or even collapse â Exandria will see worldwide riots and civil wars, governments will crack down harder on dissenters, cults will start to pop up all over the place as people desperately try to find meaning in other places, and I would not be surprised if this will be the death knell for Vasselheim. It will take years, maybe even decades, for people to settle into some form of new normal.
Second, while some other classes also have healing spells, the vast majority of dedicated magical healers are clerics, and if you have an injury or curse or disease that needs acute healing, you go to a temple. All clerics losing their powers simultaneously would be like all doctors suddenly forgetting how to practice medicine. Epidemics would erupt from every major city, a lot of people would die of illnesses or wounds that would otherwise be completely treatable, and sheer desperation might drive people into doing some pretty terrible things to any non-cleric healers like druids or bards.Â
Third, every religious organization losing all power and relevance would leave worldwide power vacuums for any tyrant or despot to fill. Organizations like the Cobalt Soul (who are followers of Ioun but donât put a lot of focus on worship) would probably survive, but any church or temple without an additional incentive to keep people in would instantly be fucked.
Fourth, there are a LOT of divine seals across the world keeping nasty shit at bay. Whether those seals will break instantly or erode over time is debatable, but either way, people can look forward to being flooded by fiends, aberrations, mythical monsters, and all sorts of horrible environmental dangers. Plus, yâknow, the Weavemindâs plan to invade and colonize Exandria.Â
Problem 6: The Pantheon leaving would result in the mother of all power vacuums.
We know itâs possible to ascend to godhood without replacing an existing god, because something like that happened very recently. Vecna was only defeated with the help of the Gods, and could only take over a divine domain that wasnât already claimed; just imagine how bad it would have been if heâd not only encountered no resistance from the Gods, but could just take every divine domain and become the One True God of Exandria.Â
Last episode (C3E102), Ashton made a comment that itâs not the king thatâs the problem, itâs the throne. However, Ludinusâs plan doesnât get rid of the throne at all, it just leaves it vacant, and while he may not have ambitions towards godhood, there are a lot of people out there who would love a slice of that pie. In the next few centuries, somebody is going to ascend to godhood and fill the power vacuum left by the Pantheon, and thereâs exactly zero guarantee that theyâll be nice about it. Did you like the Gods messing with mortals from behind the Divine Gate? How about a newly crowned One True God stomping all over your city because someone made a nasty comment about them?
Anyway thats why Ludinusâs plan is bad and he should feel bad ok bye <3
#critical role#cr3#ludinus da'leth#predathos#this is mostly just compiling things ive read on here plus some of my own thoughts#anyway this took way too long ima go to bed

Murphy's Law is the only true ruler of the universe. Whenever things seem like they're going right, that bastard will put a hole in your plans. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong â because he is fucking doing it to you.
We all have stories of the great weeks that ended in complete karmic reversal. Everything's flying high. Couldn't be better. Stayed in it a little bit too long on that last pass and the engine just went bye-bye. If only I had turned in one lap earlier. No. Murphy would have gotten you on the drive home. He knows.
So, how do you fight this otherworldly, impossible-to-defeat force? One way is to start your week in a really bad way. Make sure that things already go wrong. Use shonky-ass old battery cables from the bottom of the ocean, pulled from that submarine that crushed those billionaires into Ragu. Insult a voodoo priestess before you hop in your car. Hell, walk under a couple ladders and cross a black cat's path. Murphy can't do anything to you if you do it to yourself first.
Then, when he's not looking, your moment of triumph. Having recalibrated your threshold for "success" to something more like "a less miserable failure than usual," basically any small achievement will feel like a miracle. Opening the fridge and finding out it has non-mouldy cheese. The bakery didn't run out of croissants! Your neighbour rolled his Jeep and ejected a pretty nice axle directly into your driveway, just where it is convenient to roll underneath your stricken F-150. It's all relative, and our dumb primate bodies can't tell the difference between actual success and luck.
Of course, the universe can't be fooled forever. Emotional relativism is hard to enjoy when your car still doesn't start in the morning. That's where Hoarder's Law comes in, which is the second most powerful force in all creation. Simply buy a lot more cars, roll the dice a few more times. One of 'em has gotta start, even if it's only so they can carry you to a massive accident later.

This is an excellent article by astrophysicist Dr. Adam Frank and theoretical physicist Dr. Marcelo Gleiser about how information from the James Webb Space Telescope is changing physicists' perceptions about the standard model of cosmology. đ±
Since how we understand the universe seems rather important, the link above is a giftđlink to the article, so that even if you do not subscribe to The New York Times, you can read the entire article. Below are a few excerpts:
Not long after the James Webb Space Telescope began beaming back from outer space its stunning images of planets and nebulae last year, astronomers, though dazzled, had to admit that something was amiss. Eight months later, based in part on what the telescope has revealed, itâs beginning to look as if we may need to rethink key features of the origin and development of the universe. [...] But one of the Webbâs first major findings was exciting in an uncomfortable sense: It discovered the existence of fully formed galaxies far earlier than should have been possible according to the so-called standard model of cosmology. According to the standard model, which is the basis for essentially all research in the field, there is a fixed and precise sequence of events that followed the Big Bang: First, the force of gravity pulled together denser regions in the cooling cosmic gas, which grew to become stars and black holes; then, the force of gravity pulled together the stars into galaxies. The Webb data, though, revealed that some very large galaxies formed really fast, in too short a time, at least according to the standard model. This was no minor discrepancy. The finding is akin to parents and their children appearing in a story when the grandparents are still children themselves. [...] Working so close to the boundary between science and philosophy, cosmologists are continually haunted by the ghosts of basic assumptions hiding unseen in the tools we use â such as the assumption that scientific laws donât change over time. But thatâs precisely the sort of assumption we might have to start questioning in order to figure out whatâs wrong with the standard model. One possibility, raised by the physicist Lee Smolin and the philosopher Roberto Mangabeira Unger, is that the laws of physics can evolve and change over time. Different laws might even compete for effectiveness. An even more radical possibility, discussed by the physicist John Wheeler, is that every act of observation influences the future and even the past history of the universe. (Dr. Wheeler, working to understand the paradoxes of quantum mechanics, conceived of a âparticipatory universeâ in which every act of observation was in some sense a new act of creation.) [...] The philosopher Robert Crease has written that philosophy is whatâs required when doing more science may not answer a scientific question. Itâs not clear yet if thatâs whatâs needed to overcome the crisis in cosmology. But if more tweaks and adjustments donât do the trick, we may need not just a new story of the universe but also a new way to tell stories about it. [color emphasis added]

WinterIron Fic Recs
NarutoRox: âItâs the Little Things in Lifeâ (Bucky/Tony) âą Though Barnes had been living in the tower for almost six months now, things between him and Tony were still a bit awkward. Which is why Tony is a tad confused when Barnes starts leaving him strange little gifts.
Tahlruil: âWhat Has Been Doneâ (Bucky/Tony) Bucky has lived with the Avengers for a while now, and he's mostly settled in. During the process, he fell for Tony Stark - hard - but he can't quite bring himself to admit it to the brilliant engineer. So he just does what he can to take care of and protect him, hoping that maybe the other man will fall just as hard for him... and be the one to take their relationship to the next level. In the meantime, he's noticed that there's one member of the team that Tony seems afraid of, and he is definitely not pleased by the notion. Once he finds out what Wanda did to cause that fear, she might wish she'd never left Hydra.
Withered: âFresh out the freezerâ (Bucky/Tony) âą Listen; heâs not a total asshole. Tony figures that the guy whose brain has been scrambled since the forties might have some tender sensibilities and he tones down a lot out of respect for that. Itâs sweet. But ultimately unnecessary when all Buckyâs been thinking about is bending Tony over the nearest table.
Finely Honed (jaqen_hgar): âGrown Ass Manâ (Bucky/Tony) âą Tony Stark looks self-conscious, and it takes Bucky a stupid amount of time to figure out thatâs even what heâs seeing on the guyâs face, because heâs never seen it there before. âSorry, shoulda knocked.â Which, yeah, he should have, but he was used to rolling into the workshop whenever he felt like it. He certainly hadnât expected to find a shirtless Tony Stark in the process of doing something with the arc reactor. And sure, heâs staring, has been staring this whole time, right from the moment heâd walked in, because this is the first heâs actually seeing the arc reactor.
Potrix: âPaths Are Made by Walkingâ (Bucky/Tony) âą The road to recovery is long, winding and a different one for every person walking it. Bucky chooses to help himself the only way he knows how; by doing what he does best. Or, alternatively; the one in which Tony is a mess and accidentally kick-starts Buckyâs protective mother hen instincts.
Potrix: âFlirting (with danger)â (Bucky/Tony) âą Tony stares at the man shackled to the wall for a long, unblinking moment. âYouâre supposed to be dead.â The man raises an unimpressed eyebrow back at him. âRight back at ya, pal.â
RayShippouUchiha: âThe Great Awakening (To Hold Infinity)â (Bucky/Tony) âą Constellations wheel around in Tonyâs mind at night, illuminating his sleep with the beauty of a supernova, the terrible gaping hunger of black holes, the whimpering cry of a nebula as it births new stars into creation. All of Space laid out for him to marvel at. Tony learns and learns and learns and then he creeps downstairs and babbles relentlessly to his first and only friend. All the while the Cube hums, just a bit smug, just a bit loving, and shows him more.
Monyas: âBad Scoping Mechanisms Seriesâ (Bucky/Tony) (part of a series - there's 2 more fics here) Like, the general public hates Tony Stark for having been a weapons manufacturer but actually he was pretty popular while he was still in the weapons industry so one wonders, who would have been a fan of Stark Industries before Afghanistan? Military, alphabet agencies, private security, hitmen and assassins? âŠHydra assassins? -In which the Winter Soldier, aka Bucky Barnes, is an avid fan of Tony Stark for reasons.-
Finely Honed (jaqen_hgar): âSometimes Life Happensâ (Bucky/Tony) âą Tony hadnât necessarily been looking for further proof of his maladjustedâone might even argue self-destructiveâapproach to problems, but sometimes life happened, and you didnât have any choice but to take a long, hard look at yourself. Sometimes, youâre sitting in your car, staring into your recently emptied coffee cup, contemplating whether or not you really want to do this whole âleading a responsible lifeâ thing anymore, and a guy with a gun slides into your passenger seat. Sometimes, thatâs just the way your Monday goes.
Ceealaina: âHe's Got a Secretâ (Bucky/Tony) âą Tony snorted. âAre you planning to rent out the Met? I mean, Iâm not saying no, the look on his face would be hilarious. But otherwise, I think we can probably make whatever you want to do work with less lead time. Weâve got almost eight months, and I am very, very rich.â Bucky stopped rubbing Tonyâs shoulder, ignoring his faint noise of protest. âEight months?â he repeated. âWhat are you talking about?â Tony frowned at him. âItâs November.â âYeah.â âSteveâs birthday is in July.â âSteveâs birthday is when now?â Based on that tumblr post about Steve's birthday not ACTUALLY being July 4, and Steve being in too deep to tell the truth.
RiotFalling: âWhen is a bed not a bed? (When youâre not in it)â (Bucky/Tony) Thereâs a tiny safe house, with one tiny window and one tiny couch. And one tiny little bed.
RiotFalling: âMelt into Me (Your Words Are My Own)â (Bucky/Tony) âą Bucky has a new strategy for getting Tony to take proper human care of himself. Tony has never been so well fed, hydrated, thoroughly rested, and confused in all his life. That doesnât mean he wants it to stop, and itâs amazing how many boring adult things Bucky can get him to do just by patting his head and calling him âgood boyâ. Right up until Tony possibly ruins everything.
RiotFalling: âHey Tonyâ (Bucky/Tony) âą Steve points out that Bucky never calls Tony by his actual name. Bucky doesnât believe him, until he does.
RiotFalling: âShow Tunes and Extra Sauceâ (Bucky/Tony) âą So maybe three years in Bucky is completely in love, and this might be his first bodyguard gig but he's pretty sure that's breaking Rule One. It's definitely one of the top five rules, at the very least. He can't even be surprised with himself either, not when it's Tony. Buckyâs job is basically to hang out with his crush all the time, and sure sometimes he gets shot or stabbed or has to physically drag Tony out of his lab when he starts sleep-deprived-rambling about building some piece of tech from a scifi movie, but most days Bucky doesn't have a single thing to complain about. And then there's Valentine's Day.
InTheShadows: âNothing More Deceptiveâ (Bucky/Tony) âą When Tony enters the kitchen he is focused on one thing and one thing only - coffee. What he isn't expecting is Barnes to already be in there. What he really isn't expecting is a sassy, verbal Barnes. The man hasn't said a word since he entered the Tower as far as Tony knows. And what he most certainly isn't expecting if for it to become a tradition of late night meetings, flirting and fun that seems to be headed for something more. Right? (What if it's all in Tony's head after all?)
