When I arrived at my friend's home in Charlottesville I heard the faint sound of drums and bass being played nearby. Since I'm a musician, I became curious and investigated. I then discovered these fellows, who waved me inside when I knocked at the window. They were warming up for an online performance on Concert Window. In addition to some original tunes (or what I think were originals), they adapted a children's story book about barnyards into a reggae song, done in the style of "No Woman No Cry" by Bob Marley. They mostly play around at local vineyards as "The Bobby Midnight Band." I was invited to stay and watch the concert, but I needed to leave to finish unpacking and also to spend some time with my friends that were hosting me. 

However, I went back for a quick visit after their show was over and they shared a locally brewed Porter with me which was quite good. Now, furthest on the left in the photo is Paul, who told me a quick story before he had to go, about a time when he was hiking the Appalachian trail... Apparently two guys, each one hiking alone, arrived at the shelter he was staying at within a couple days of each other. They had left two months apart from each other and were heading south from Maine, trying to beat the heat, or rather, the cold, and the crowds. They averaged around 30 miles a day, often starting before the sun was up and continuing a couple hours after dark, somehow arriving at the same shelter at nearly the same time. I thought it was quite impressive.

So, besides the friends I stayed with, these were the first locals from Charlottesville that I had the pleasure of meeting, and they were very welcoming to say the least.
