October at last.

I made it to October 1st.  My daughter’s sleepover birthday party is complete and was a big success.  I have completed a writing test for a job I would like very much to get, and I am feeling hopeful about it.  I _think_ her home school is under control.  We are much more organized now than we were a couple weeks ago.  Our new flooring is in, and we are very very slowly putting our living room back together, in a new configuration that I hope will be more friendly to the kind of family life I always wish for.  

The nature of my brain for the past several months has been that I can’t think too much of the future.  All I can do is look towards the next big thing that needs to be done.  First days of school, daughter’s birthday, floor replacement, home school organization, writing test, daughter’s birthday party.  

This week there is nothing major to prep for.  I hope to catch up on some assorted to do tasks that are way overdue.  I would like to go to Tai Chi tomorrow.  I haven’t been going for weeks.  

I would like to take a break from therapy and from the energy work I have been doing. I don’t know what is inspiring this.  Maybe just a desire to be well. Maybe I’m just impatient and want to try something else.  I reached out to someone who is a friend of my mom’s in the area.  Someone she used to know from my Buddhist childhood.  My mom’s friend is still active in the organization and I am trying to get up the gumption to go to a Buddhist meeting.  A small, cozy one at someone’s house.  I can meditate/chant and then chat with some slightly older ladies about my troubles.  It sounds nice, but also vulnerable and I am a little intimidated.  

One of my best friends admitted to me that she has been more or less avoiding me because she felt like she was “having to coach me all the time”.  (She is a business/financial coach).  This pissed me off.  I never asked for her to “coach” me.  We have been friends for a decade and a half and I asked for emotional support, but not for her to “fix” anything.  

There is this certain advice I saw over and over again when I was reading all the typical “get your energy up!” entrepreneurial books was to distance yourself from people who were “bringing you down” and surround yourself with people who were full of positive energy.  When I was excited about my company and mostly happy and focused, she was there and was a great friend.  And she was there for much of my depression.  But then she exited stage left.  Was I draining her?  Was I just depressed for too long?  It hurts and it sucks and it feeds my paranoia that none of my friends really want to hear any more about this struggle I am struggling with.  

My therapist emphasizes that I learn “self-soothing”, so that I feel less lonely because my own company will be good enough for me.  Something like that.  I am not sure how to go about it, but I have started talking to myself at night before I fall asleep.  Listening to myself and giving myself advice, that kind of thing.  It feels a little extra crazy but hopefully it is taking steps on the road to wellness.

The Crazy

So for 3 years I have been involved in Crazy. Crazy this Crazy that and all thanks to one person......ok two people. My friend Alexi and the great and all mighty powerful Misha Collins. The Crazy is called this thing G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. You do not know what G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. is? That's ok. It is short for Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. Or long story short, no sleep for a week. Anyways this Gishwhes started up seven years ago. This is my third year and according to Gishwhes, Gishers, and the All Mighty Misha, it is the last-Gishwhes-as-we-know-it. So yeah, big deal. So it starts tomorrow and goes for 1 whole week.
