IDOLiSH7 Anime vs Game Comparisons
First Beat - Episode 3
The Dorm
It was hinted but not explicitly stated in the anime, but i7 worked for their dorm! After performing in school festivals and on the streets (like they did in the anime) and by selling CDs in malls, they finally got a dorm.
We also get details on the building. It was a renovated employee building. Because of that, the members will have to share the kitchen and bathroom, which we see in the anime.
I love that we are able to see more of the dorm. The BGM that plays during the house tour is also great.
Not sure why, but they scrambled some of the lines. For example, in the anime, Tamaki says he wants the corner room, but in the game, Yamato says he wants the corner room.
There's an added detail about Tamaki's upbringing. Riku and Sogo mention that Tamaki has a habit of collecting stickers from canned juices and bread. (Tamakiii... 🥺)
Trivia about the stickers: Some products will have a special sticker that you can collect to get certain rewards.
Above are stickers that you can use to exchange for plates from the Yamazaki Spring Bread Festival. There's even a Crayon Shin-chan episode (ep. 961) about collecting stickers to get a trip to Europe 😆
Riku's comment when Iori leaves with the manager to continue their talk from before (about joining the management team) is a bit more self-depracative:
"Iori often scolds me too. Since he does everything so well, I must seem unreliable to him, even though I'm older." (Game)
"Iori likes to lecture people. I seem to annoy him in particular." (Anime)
His tone is also much calmer in the game. It feels like Riku is quite bothered by this... ;-; C'mon Iori, we can do better. (He will do better!) In the anime, it sounds more light-hearted, like an "oopsie daisy" type of comment.
Mitsuki then explains that rather than seeing them (Riku and Tsumugi) as annoying / unreliable, they're the types of people he loves to take care of.
Iori and Tsumugi talk about the center
Iori has more of an attitude during this scene in the game. The anime used this scene to show his softer side. It's really nice because you hear Mitsuki talk about how Iori actually is and then you can see it right away.
Iori as he listens to Tsumugi explain her vision for i7.
Riku: the Center!
There are some extra scenes about the members reacting to Riku becoming the center.
Everyone is supportive, like shown in the anime. But Nagi also asks about when they can battle for the center position. Sogo confirms that no one really wants to challenge the decision. Nagi calls them "vegetarians" (in English). In Japanese, that word means someone who is passive. I find it funny because we don't have that meaning associated with vegetarian in English. The anime made the right choice to remove it 😂
Riku's reaction is also different! In the game, Riku went from disbelief -> nervous -> proud -> determined. After being congratulated by all the members, he said that he feels a hole is going to form in his stomach. In the anime, he was surprised -> happy -> moved to tears-> determined.
The game adds some details about how becoming the center affected Riku's performance.
Sogo comments that although Riku doesn't have stamina, he will give his all until the end.
Idol Self-Awareness Meeting
Hoo boy! The atmosphere is completely different here.
The scene where Tamaki and Nagi were fooling around when fans were asking for an encore is much more light-hearted in the anime; the scene ends comedically with Mitsuki shouting.
In the game, instead of drooling at a takoyaki stand, Tamaki was actually eating takoyaki. And because Tamaki and Nagi were fooling around, fans left saying, "Oh, it's fine if you can't do it. Excuse us." The situation was much more tense. It feels like a reality check. These people come from all sorts of backgrounds with all sorts of motives. It's weird that everything has been going so smoothly so far.
The anime and game meeting also differs greatly. The BGM and pacing of the anime scenes keep an upbeat and silly feeling.
In the anime meeting, Mitsuki says that Nagi and Tamaki aren't focused enough. They are often sleep in, come late, and are unsynchronized when they perform dances. The game goes further by adding that they frequently cancel unexpectedly, which is a serious problem.
Nagi and Tamaki does not seem to care about Mitsuki's criticisms. Mitsuki's frustration grows with their responses, along with the volume he uses to scold them.
Exasperated, Mitsuki tries to get the other members to help him. He turns to Yamato, but Yamato is a more hands-off person. Unlike in the anime where Riku pipes in on his own, Mitsuki asks Riku to give a comment in the game. Riku struggles to firmly scold them.
After this, we dive into classic Ainana chaos ✨
Sogo and Tamaki argue about how they should act as an idol group. Tamaki believes that he is doing enough, while Sogo believes that they should make sure not to cause trouble for anyone. And Tamaki is causing trouble, so he is not doing enough (This part is the same as the anime).
Sogo compares Tamaki to Iori, like in the anime. But then we get some extra comments. Iori says, "Oosaka-san... It's unfair to compare him to me." Riku responds with something like “Are you trying to boast or show empathy?”
Sogo continues his lecture. Tamaki cuts him off with an apology and decides to leave for a walk. Mitsuki tries to get Nagi to apologize to, but Nagi is completely glued to the TV, watching Magical Kokona.
Basically! It’s chaotic like in the anime, but the atmosphere is much more tense.
Before Tamaki actually leaves the room, Iori says, "Let's take a break from performing." Both use the same line but with different tones. Anime Iori sounds more relaxed, while game Iori sounds more stern and concerned.
Riku asks, "Huh... Why would you be able to decide something like that, Iori?" Iori adds, "...That's what our manager is saying". Then, we go to the scene with Iori and Tsumugi's discussion.
One-Month Suspension
During their one-month suspension, we get to hear about why each of them want to become idols. Game and anime conversations go mostly the same.
Iori and Tsumugi's conversation is slightly different. When Tsumugi asks Iori why he became an idol in the anime, he immediately opens up about how he became an idol so that Mitsuki can get scouted with him. However, in the game, Iori dodges the question at first, saying that he became an idol because Tsumugi's father scouted him. Only after Tsumugi probes further does he reveal the true reason. He also asks Tsumugi to keep this a secret from his brother. Game Iori is more sensitive about this topic.
Side Story I: How they spent their one-month suspension
Nagi does a complete 180 after being moved by Mitsuki's passion. He promises to be more focused.
We get an extra conversation with Mitsuki and Nagi. Since they are not allowed to sing or dance, Mitsuki and Nagi were alone together in the dance practice room just chatting. Mitsuki notices some flowers in the shade. He is impressed that they were able to grow without sunshine.
Nagi pities the flower and says that if it were him, he would have grown a pair of legs and moved to a place with sunshine. Mitsuki responds saying, "That's so you." Mitsuki thinks that Nagi feels like someone who grew up thriving under a cozy and warm sunlight.
Nagi asks if it's different for Mitsuki. He says that Mitsuki is like the sun. Mitsuki laughs and thanks him for the compliment but says that he's more of the type that would stay in the shade and admire the sun.
Mitsuki adds that it's not a bad thing to grow under the shade because once you get exposed to sunlight, you'll grow rapidly. He circles back to their current situation and encourages Nagi, saying they should both cherish these feelings of wanting to sing and dance.
Tamaki enters the room to Mitsuki's surprise. He was supposed to go to school (Iori left already). Tamaki slept in, so he thought he'd just skip.
Mitsuki scolds Tamaki and tells him that he should get a better schedule, so Tamaki points out that Yamato is still asleep. Mitsuki comments about how Yamato is being a bad example. Mitsuki tries to convince Tamaki to go to school and to also talk to Sogo afterwards, but Tamaki doesn't want to do it.
Sogo walks in the room and asks about Tamaki's school. Tamaki lies, saying that he has a substitute holiday. Mitsuki quickly points out his lie and smacks Tamaki. Sogo and Tamaki get into another fight. Tamaki leaves for school to get out of another round of Sogo's lecturing.
Sogo feels bad because they ended up fighting again. Mitsuki says that Tamaki does need a bit of scolding because he is a bit too laxed. Mitsuki asks if Sogo can wake Yamato up and suggests Sogo to shout in Yamato's ear.
It seems like Yamato woke up and fell asleep again in the living room. Sogo was about to shout in Yamato's ear (LOL) but Yamato sensed Sogo before Sogo could do it. Yamato told Sogo to stop emitting such a tense aura near his pillow.
Sogo asks if he talk to Yamato about something. Yamato asks him what's up. Turns out Sogo was unconsciouly humming while he was listening to music last night. He came to apologize to Yamato, who is i7's leader, and is ready to accept any punishment. (You can tell Sogo had a really strict upbringing.)
Yamato laughs because of how Sogo takes everything so seriously. He tells Sogo that he is the leader in name only. Yamato won’t punish or judge Sogo. He tells Sogo that Sogo should be his own judge and that Sogo should only come to Yamato if he wants Yamato to praise him. (Awwww)
Riku arrives! He wants to help out with something, maybe shopping or some cleaning. But Sogo did everything already. Riku looks sad that he can't help out. But he quickly regains composure and apologizes for reacting judgementally when he found out Sogo abandoned his family for music. Sogo also apologizes for letting Riku down, even though they were getting along so well.
Riku says it's not Sogo's fault and asks if they could make up. Sogo agrees. Riku asks if Sogo wants to do a lesson with him afterwards. Sogo reminds him that they are currently under a singing and dancing ban.
Riku is a bit disappointed. He says that after he makes up with a friend or after something good happens, he lines to sing loudly and dance with all his might. It's his way of releasing all the emotions from inside his body. All the things that he can't express well comes pouring out along with the rhythm. Sogo can understand this.
Riku says that Tamaki probably feels the same way too. Even though Tamaki is a bit sloppy in daily life, he is always full of energy while he is dancing. Tamaki uses dance to express things that he can't express through words, since he is not very good at expressing things through words. Riku feels that Tamaki is most affected by this ban.
We cut to a scene with Tamaki and Iori. Tamaki says, "Let me go, Iorin...! I just danced a bit after school because they asked me to!" Iori reminds him that dancing is prohibited. Tamaki thinks that the ban only applies to him as part of IDOLiSH7, so he should be a allowed to dance in his own time.
Iori says that since Tamaki joined IDOLiSH7, he carries the IDOLiSH name everywhere he goes. Tamaki is upset because he feels like he's being shackled. Iori asks if Tamaki plans to quit if Tamaki can't do what he wants. Tamaki angrily says that he never said that.
Iori tells Tamaki that if he wants to be free, he should be alone. If he wants to be with other people, then he needs to accept having to adjust and compromise for other people.
Tamaki: "Quit acting like you know it all. You're the one who's always sitting alone in class. Ah... I'm not calling you a loner, but aren't you also choosing to be free by being alone?"
Iori explains that he struggles with social interactions, but whenever he does connect with others, he makes it a point to take responsibility for those relationships. He believes that if he’s going to engage, he should be accountable for the impact he has on others. Tamaki says he won't take responsibility over someone who's not even his sibling.
Iori expresses his admiration for Tamaki's dancing technique and expressiveness, saying he's glad Tamaki is part of IDOLiSH7. He believes that with Tamaki on the team, their popularity is bound to grow, and he wants Tamaki to feel the weight of those expectations.
Tamaki, confused, asks, "I don’t really get it, but was that a compliment?" Iori replies, "No, it was not." "Then I don’t care," Tamaki retorts. Finally, Iori, feeling a bit embarrassed, admits, "I was praising you."
The side story ends with Iori telling Tamaki to not dance if he wants to stay with the group.
Side Story II - 3 Weeks After Their Suspension
Yamato goes to Nagi's room because Yamato got Nagi's laundry. Turns out Nagi was watching other groups' live performances, not anime. He wants to show Mitsuki his good side. Yamato hopes that Tamaki can feel similarly too.
Tamaki is really not handling it well. He has reached his limit at this point. He wants to talk to the manager about lifting the ban.
Tamaki: Isn't it weird? If you tell me to dance and sing as an idol, I can understand, but why would you tell me not to dance? The manager is weird. Riku: Don't say that! Our manager has put a lot of thought for us! Iori: That's right. If you're going to complain to her, just say it to me. Riku: ...Why? Iori: Huh? Oh... Ahem. She is probably busy, so I'll tell her in your stead. Riku: Iori, are you close to the manager? Iori: Nanase-san, let's focus on the topic here. Riku: Anyways, don't do it, Tamaki! Let's hang in there a little longer! Tamaki: You two are making it seem like I'm bullying the manager.
Sogo comes in the room. Riku explains that Tamaki wants to speak directly to the manager (Riku... you're making Tamaki sound like a Karen 😭 Let's find better ways to word things).
Sogo tries to calm Tamaki down and says that Tamaki might scare her if he acts like that. Tamaki is frustrated because he's being treated like a bad person. Tamaki angrily leaves the room. Riku feels bad. He thinks he might have gone too far. Sogo tells Riku and Iori to return to the dorm. He will talk to Tamaki.
Sogo tries to convince Tamaki to go home. Tamaki brushes Sogo off, saying Sogo doesn't understand how much Tamaki loves dancing. Sogo explains that it's not easy for him either. He's just used to putting up with things he doesn't like, but he understands that it may be hard for a free-spirited person like Tamaki.
Tamaki asks if being free implies being alone. Sogo doesn't think so because you can be not free and still alone. They discuss about how navigating through human relationships is hard.
Sogo asks if Tamaki still wants to talk to the manager and offers to accompany him. Tamaki decides he’ll try to hold on a bit longer. Then, Sogo talks to Tamaki about TRIGGER. He thinks Tamaki will like TRIGGER too because everyone in the group is cool like Tamaki.
We cut back to the dorms with Riku and Iori. Riku was looking at a TRIGGER DVD. Iori praises Tenn for being an outstanding performer and center and asks if Riku is watching TRIGGER as a reference. Riku says he’s not and that he won’t look at it anymore. Before Iori could say anything else, Riku leaves for a bath.
Iori notices that Riku seems to feel a sort of rivalry towards TRIGGER. He is happy that Riku is determined to do well.
Finally, it’s the day before TRIGGER’s concert. Nagi and Tamaki plan to wake up early to show off to the others. Yamato decides to join them as well.

Legendary Classic Life-Sim Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 Gets English Translation Fan Patch from HilltopWorks
Noisy Pixel Source
After announcing it almost a year ago, fan-translation collective HilltopWorks have released their full English translation patch for Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, the 2002 entry of the long-running cozy game franchise that originally launched on the PlayStation 2.
The Boku no Natsuyasumi (“My Summer Vacation”) titles follow a young boy being sent to live with his aunt and uncle in rural Japan over summer break and all of the low-stakes situations he might find himself in over his relaxing trip. They’ve been widely acclaimed in Japan for accurately capturing the feeling of childhood adventure and positive nostalgia, but the series has, with the sole exception of a Crayon Shin-chan spin-off title, never been officially released worldwide.
Boku no Natsuyasumi 2, as with the rest of the games in the series, requires no knowledge of the other titles to enjoy, as the biggest difference between it and the first game is simply that it’s set in a different small Japanese town, this one is on the coast. It was originally released on July 11, 2002, and received a 33/40 from Famitsu, selling over a quarter of a million copies in under twenty days.
You can watch the trailer for the release of the patch below and download it from HilltopWorks’ Patreon for free here.

My Review of Princess Sara
And now I return for more World Masterpiece Theater.
Today’s classic is something I’m somewhat familiar with. The series is loosely based on the novel titled, “A Little Princess” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. There were several adaptations for film and television throughout the past several decades including a Shirley Temple film in the late 1930’s, an Americanized version in the 90s, and about a bajillion Filipino adaptations. The one I’m most familiar with was the one that came out in 1995. I remember this film very well as it was played a lot in my youth and as an adult, I would come across it from time to time on HBO or some other station playing it. It was fine and all, but I knew that this film took artistic liberties and changed around a lot from the novel.
After watching several of these World Masterpiece Theater animes, I’ve come to realize that these series are pretty damn accurate when it comes to capturing the original source material. I mean yes, Les Mis took a lot of liberties to remove several characters from being killed off, but it was still top tier best version. All of these animes have to take a few liberties as they are all G-Rated. But they’re still very good nevertheless. I was curious about this particular story for the longest time and thought it was high-time I sit down and watch the anime version.
Sara Crewe and her father arrive in London from India. Back home, Sara was treated a lot like a princess and she acted like one. Not the bad kind, the Princess Diana kind, she’s a sweetheart. Sara is about to be admitted to a boarding school, Miss Minchin’s all-girl’s boarding school that is! Once at school, Sara was beloved by most of the students and praised by teachers due to her academic skills. On top of which, her father is loaded! Yeah, her father is in the diamond business back in India and so he has enough money to keep her daughter happy.
Unfortunately, when Sara’s father dies news also comes that the family is bankrupt leaving Sara without a penny to her name. Surely Miss Minchin will care for the poor orphan girl, right? Ha, I already know this story. Miss Minchin strips Sara of her education, clothes, and housing. Even though she tossed around the idea of casting the orphaned girl to the streets, Miss Minchin takes pity on the girl. Sara will live in a cold attic and work as a scullery maid. Sara is to do as she’s told by her higher-ups, never talk with the other students, and must work until she pays off her debts to Miss Minchin.
BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: As I’ve mentioned in the past, only a few of the World Masterpiece Theater animes were dubbed into English. And this was one of them…sorta! Our good friends at Animax did one. And if you’re unfamiliar, this is the company from Southeast Asia that dubs anime into English. And if that still doesn’t ring a bell, look up the Cardcaptor Sakura dub and you’ve got your answer. As usual, this anime has made its way across the globe to many different countries and territories. Apparently, it was a big hit in the Philippines. So much so that there’s a plethora of memes surrounding this one series! As for the cast, it’s a mixture of veteran voice actors that are still voicing today, lesser-known voices, and one-timers. And as this is a part of the World Masterpiece Theater collection, some voice actors here were heard in other works throughout the years like Naoko Watanabe and Eiko Yamada. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.
*Sara is played by Sumi Shimamoto (known for Okita’s sister on Gintama, Kanata on Lucky Star, Ishizu on YGO, and Flora on Berserk 2016)
*Becky is played by Teiyuu Ichiryuusai (known for Masao on Crayon Shin-chan)
*Miss Minchin is played by Taeko Nakanishi
DISLIKED CHARACTERS: Oh-ho-ho, I knew going in that I was going to hate two specific characters! Those two are Lavinia and Miss Minchin. Though when I watched the movie, it was more of a hatred for Miss Minchin overall and Lavinia was a passing thought. Has this anime changed my thoughts on these two?
Right from the starting gate, they are both detestable and will continue to be that.
Lavinia is a snot-nosed brat who gets jealous every time Sara gets attention from the teachers. But the greatest injustice done to Lavinia was that Miss Minchin took Lavinia’s role of class rep and gave it to Sara. So the bitch was butt-hurt. But when Sara’s father died and she loses her wealth, Lavinia showed absolutely no sadness. In fact, she was the only person in the room smiling. What a bitch! And when Sara became a scullery maid for the seminary, Lavinia made sure to screw around with Sara by any means necessary. She gets a kick from making the poor girl suffer or get yelled at. Seriously, every time you see this snot-nosed brat glare at Sara I’m screaming, “JUST LEAVE THE POOR GIRL ALONE!”
Thank God there was a second of peace. Lavinia’s father learned that Sara was once a student but is now a scullery maid and Lavinia being so insistent that Sara become her personal maid. He slapped the freckles off that bitch’s face. Give that father a cash prize and a trophy! Mind you I said one second of peace. The next episode she was right back giving Sara (and Becky) a hard time. Lavinia does so much to Sara that I can’t believe Sara managed to remain civil throughout the entire ordeal.
And as for Miss Minchin, she’s had it out for Sara from minute one. But because her father was wealthy, she decided to use Sara to show off to high society people. And the brewing point for Miss Minchin to vow vengeance against Sara was because Sara hid the fact that she was fluent in French. The audacity of this bitch! But again, because of Sara’s father, she sucked up. Miss Minchin’s true colors came out in front of Sara when it’s learned of her father’s death and failed diamond business. No pity on the girl who just lost everything. She was ready to throw her out on the street, but was begged by others to keep her as a maid.
Miss Minchin would be terrible to Sara. She physically abused her, starved her, forced her to live in unlivable conditions, and had the other workers (Molly and James) work her like a slave. One of the worst moments was when Sara got severely ill. Never mind pushing Sara to the point of illness, this woman had to think for a moment to get a credible doctor to look at her. She got the cheapest, drunkest doctor they could find who misdiagnosed her. Miss Minchin even thought about sending Sara to a sanitorium if this persists. Bitch, I can’t even with you! At least in this version, Miss Minchin never sent the police on Sara. Of the three versions to this story I’ve watched, I think this Miss Minchin was the cruelest. Only because we do witness her slapping Sara several times!
SHIPPING: I know I shouldn’t be shipping anyone with anybody. Most of the people in this story are young. VERY YOUNG! As for the adults, there were no romantic interests for anyone here. It’s plainly clear that Miss Minchin is going to die a spinster. None of the teachers had secret relationships with some guy like in the Shirley Temple version. And Miss Amelia didn’t run off with the milk man like in the 1995 version! None of that went down in this adaptation.
With that said…
Peter x Sara is cute! I would support the hell out of this even though it probably isn’t canon.
ACCURATE OR NOT: So let’s see if Princess Sara really stacks up to the novel “A Little Princess”.
*Oh-ho-ho, time to nail my childhood to a wall. As you know, I’m well familiar with the 1995 rendition of A Little Princess. If you’re like me and know this film from start to finish, get ready to have the balloon pop. Becky’s not black. The story takes place in London, not New York City. The story really takes place in the late 1800s, not World War I times. Ralph Crewe didn’t leave his daughter to fight in a war. And finally the most important fact, Ralph Crewe remains dead. Most of the things I mentioned here were used correctly in this adaptation.
*There are some new characters added to the series. And quite frankly, I’m not entirely sure who these people are. Except for the animals! With the exception of Ram Dass’s monkey, I don’t think Miss Minchin’s cat Cesar nor the family of rats exist.
*Most things in this anime are pretty accurate to the original source. But there’s a good chance that most of the episodes were either fabricated or stretched out to fit the running time. You know, fillers! Call me crazy, but I don’t think the book had chapters involving a Halloween party. Same goes for that episode where Amelia opens up to Sara about her past with her sister.
*It is unknown how long this experience for Sara lasts anime-wise. In the book, Sara’s time at Miss Minchin’s seminary was approximately 2 years. The way I see it, I don’t think Sara was a scullery maid for more than a year in the anime. If she were, we would have probably gotten an episode of Sara celebrating her first birthday without her father.
ENDING: Around episode 30, the home next to Miss Minchin’s seminary was sold to a gentleman from India named Mr. Carrisford. He was able to survive a gnarly bout with Jungle Fever, although now he’s confined to a wheel chair. But Mr. Carrisford has an overwhelming sense of guilt due to how things went down in India. See, he convinced his long-time friend to go into business with him involving a diamond mine. But the friend died from his Jungle Fever, leaving behind a daughter and a whole legal battle involving bankruptcy.
In case you’re not keeping up, Mr. Carrisford’s friend is Ralph Crewe, Sara’s father. Sara is just several feet from the gentleman who can save her from the living hell of Miss Minchin’s seminary.
But Medea, we’ve got over 15 episodes left!
Correct, dipshit! Mr. Carrisford doesn’t remember a lot, probably due to the Jungle Fever. He doesn’t remember Ralph’s daughter’s name. And he forgot where Sara was sent for her education. In fact, he was way off. Mr. Carrisford had his friend travel by boat to France in search for this girl. So I’m sitting here episode-after-episode screaming at the screen, “SHE’S RIGHT THERE, YOU IDIOT”. But because of Sara’s friendship with Ram Dass (Carrisford’s caretaker), he saw to it to repay Sara for her kindness. Ram Dass would spend days and nights going to the attic to give Sara warm blankets, clothes, and food. Sara thought it was a magic spell or a guardian angel looking out for her. It wasn’t long before Miss Minchin saw these special items in the attic and threw Sara out to sleep in a horse stable.
Things only get worse from here when one night the stable catches on fire and Sara almost burned to death. And then she gets blamed by Miss Minchin for starting the fire! This is the one and only time I’ve ever seen Sara stand up to Miss Minchin as she was not at fault. I know it’d be asking too much to have Sara tell Miss Minchin to fuck off, but this was big for Sara to stand up for herself. In actuality, Lottie accidentally dropped a candle when she was scared by (you guessed it) Lavinia and her friends. But no, Miss Minchin jumped to every wrong conclusion and threw Sara out of the seminary. Fortunately, Sara was taken in by Peter and his family and she was even able to get a job like many of the other children in the area.
Sara’s going to be a little match girl!
This anime hurts to watch. This anime hurts a lot.
Thankfully Sara’s stint as a little match girl was short-lived as Miss Amelia came looking for her and brought her back to the seminary. The only reason behind that is because there was a big care package addressed to Sara. Miss Minchin made it very clear that she still despises Sara. But Minchin flips her light-switch when she sees the care package contained beautiful clothing and such. Because she thought Sara was being watched by a wealthy and anonymous family member, she allows Sara to live in the attic and attend classes instead of doing chores with Becky. She goes back to kissing her ass. Again, the audacity of this bitch!
Moving back to Mr. Carrisford’s dilemma! He sent his solicitor to France in search of Ralph Crewe’s daughter. He returned with no such luck of a daughter. Then, they decide to hone their search to right here in England because this is where Ralph was from. Thankfully, fate intervened before they start another grand search as Sara came by the home to return Ram Dass’s monkey. Here it is, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Sara meeting Mr. Carrisford! He learns Sara knows some Hindu and grew up in India. He put 2+2 together and realized the girl from next door he’s been secretly helping was really Ralph Crewe’s daughter all along!
When Miss Minchin went next door to retrieve Sara, she was in for the shock of her life. Carrisford is going to adopt Sara. The diamond mine that was rumored to be a bust, was really fortuitous. Sara’s debts are wiped away. Not only is she inheritor to her fathers share, but she will also obtain Carrisford’s share when he passes (he has no heir of his own). And to top it off, he knows about the abuse of Sara so Sara is going to live next door instead of a creaky attic. You know, it’s not nice to kick people while their down. But fuck that, this bitch has needed a royal-ass beat down since episode one. Time for Miss Minchin’s sister to have her say!
MISS AMELIA: Throughout these 40-odd episodes, she is seen as the submissive sister, doing whatever Miss Minchin says. Amelia just stands there looking concerned every, single, fucking episode and does fucking nothing! She sees Sara suffering in silence with a smile on her face and says nothing to her sister. She even goes a step beyond that by begging Sara to forgive her sister several episodes prior to this very moment. We do get some light shed on Miss Minchin and Amelia’s past about how Miss Minchin worked odd jobs to take care of Amelia due to lack of parents. Not sure if this is really true or not, so I’m leaving it off my accuracy list. When Miss Minchin returns to the seminary and tells her sister what went down with Mr. Carrisford, Miss Amelia let her sister have it.
It was a long-time coming and I can understand a person like Amelia letting loose. Some people hold it in for so long until they’re filled to the top and explode. I’m one of those people, so again, I can relate in a way. Amelia spent this whole time contemplating whether to speak up about Sara’s abuse by her own sister or to shut up and do what her sister says. Hearing about Mr. Carrisford taking Sara snapped Amelia and she had a total breakdown. And all I can say is, “Bravo”! Amelia was absolutely right and I’m glad Miss Minchin heard it. It was all her fault. And if the seminary closes because people hear about Sara’s abuse, it’ll be all her fault.
BACK TO THE CONCLUSION: Fortunately for Miss Minchin, Sara is kind and forgiving. She had Mr. Carrisford give a sizable donation to Miss Minchin’s seminary. Miss Minchin was a notorious penny-pincher, so this should settle her. Sara gets quite the happy ending as she gets to live with Mr. Carrisford and still go to school. She has Becky become her personal maid. All of Sara’s belongings that were taken away when Ralph died are returned to her on Christmas. A little starving girl she helped early in the series has a happy ending as well. And we end with Sara and her new family go back to India. It’s for 4 months to settle things on the Crewe estate, but she’ll be back.
At least when she comes back, Lavinia won’t be there. Good riddance! At least they come to some sort of truce.
No matter what version of A Little Princess you watch, it’s always going to be a tough watch. Because of the size of this series, it can sometimes be too hard to watch. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good story where a character takes on adversity and struggles. But there comes a time when struggle just becomes borderline torture-porn. You know those stories where the hero has to go through so much pain and agony and eventually get some sort of satisfied conclusion. The anime The Rising of the Shield Hero and the movie Precious comes to mind. Thank God Sara never had to endure what Precious did. Still bad though! At least with the movie adaptations to Princess Sara, we only watch Sara’s struggles for like, what, an hour or maybe less. This is over 30 episodes of watching this girl get abused. That’s 23 minutes per episode, mind you! Not just from Miss Minchin, but the cooks and one smarmy brat who has a vendetta. All the while, you’re telling yourself, “Dude, you know this story and it’s going to get better”. But it’s not an easy watch! There are scenes where you just wish they’d leave Sara alone or just wish for things to get better.
Is this my favorite adaptations of A Little Princess? Hmm…I don’t know! I really liked this version of the story, but I still have an attachment to the 1995 film. Granted, the animation is always a bit of a drawback when it comes to these animes. But I have to cut some slack as this was mid-1980s here. If you were a fan of this story, whether you saw the 1995 film, the Shirley Temple film, or any of the other adaptations out there, I give a recommendation. Track this down and give it a watch.
Okay Randomizer-kun, I’m giving you another shot. Please don’t give me an obscure hentai to watch in place of this.
Oh thank God, another Nippon animation!

[📰] Get to Know the Members of K-Pop Group P1Harmony With These 10 Fun Facts! (Exclusive)
P1Harmony is a rising global K-Pop troupe, but we wanted Just Jared readers to get an exclusive chance to know them a little better!
The talented six-member boy group first arrived on the scene back in October of 2020, embarking on their international music career with the release of their first mini album DISHARMONY: STAND OUT and feature film, P1H: A New World Begins, which positioned the group as a force to be reckoned with in the music scene.
Amid the pandemic, the group continued to make new music for their fans with the release of their second mini album, DISHARMONY: BREAK OUT, including their slamming, hip-hop infused title track “Scared,”” along with an accompanying music video full of street-style dancing and intense visual effects.
Watch “Scared” and check out these 10 Fun Facts about P1Harmony inside!
INTAK
1. I have more eyelashes on my right eye than my left. Right after my debut, I didn’t really know how to remove eye makeup, so for a while, I used to just rub my eyes really hard with soap and now, I have more eyelashes on my right eye than my left. 2. I used to love oysters, but now I cannot eat it. I was an oyster fanatic, until very recently. I ordered raw oysters after watching a TV show at night with JONGSEOB, and after one bite, I couldn’t eat it anymore. The taste of the “sea” was so pungent. Now, I’m too traumatized! 3. I saved a man’s life. I went chestnut picking with my dad, and found a guy hanging on a cliff and struggling to get back up. We immediately helped him get up. He was really grateful and I remember feeling so proud to have saved someone’s life! 4. I have a small horizontal scar on the right side of my face, and I kind of like it. I got this scar when I was about four or five, and although it’s not that visible now, sometimes I like it because it makes me feel like a charismatic, bad guy! 5. I love dogs. I love dogs, so I have been watching a lot of dog-related videos but I’m terribly allergic. I can’t stop myself from petting them when I see them on the street, and always regret it afterwards because I turn all puffy and itchy! 6. I fantasize a lot about time travel. I even tried and feel like it can really happen one day! I lie down in my bed, put my blanket over my entire body and focus really hard on the idea, but this brings me nowhere but to the future. [Laughs] 7. I have a gold tooth. 8. I have a brown spot (mole) on my middle finger. 9. I love my Crayon Shin-chan character earphones. I get happy just looking at it. 10. I go to the convenient store so much that there isn’t anything I have not tried!
THEO
1. My right shoulder is more developed than my left. I used to play volleyball and would strike with my right arm, so my right shoulder is more developed than my left. 2. I have a red mole. I recently got a red mole on the side of my right neck, but I have no idea where it came from and why but it’s not going away! 3. I can’t burp, literally. I don’t know how to burp and have never burped in my life 4. I only drink carbonated drinks. I rarely drink anything that is NOT carbonated. 5. I don’t like lettuce and tomatoes in my burgers. 6. I had a burst appendix and didn’t know it for a while. I was hospitalized for two months, because they couldn’t find my appendix. Apparently, my organs are shaped and structured differently. 7. I love slippers. Unless I am going to an official engagement or doing promos, I am always in slippers, (even during winter)! 8. I have never cried in front of people until I turned 20. I was watching a very emotional episode of “Animal Farm,” and got caught crying in front of KEEHO, SOUL and JIUNG. Since then, I think I’ve gotten more emotional. I once cried watching JONGSEOB cry, too. 9. I can’t stay still when I’m on the phone. I have to walk around or do something when I’m on the phone. 10. I love singing songs to my friends over the phone.
JIUNG
1. I love Tonkatsu (pork cutlet). I have been addicted to tonkatsu these days and have been eating it almost every day for the last few months. 2. I have the same birthday as my younger brother. My younger brother and I share the same birthday, which is Oct. 7. We were also born around the same time. 3. My younger brother and I have a similar birth time as well. I think he was born like 8 minutes before me or after! 4. I love raw garlic and don’t like kimchi. 5. I only drink flat coca-cola. I purposely decarbonate my coke by shaking it and letting the air out multiple times until the bottle doesn’t expand anymore and the coke is completely flat. 6. I still fit into my hats from my adolescent years. My head is so small that I still fit into all my hats from elementary school. 7. I think too much. I make daily memos and write down almost everything to organize my thoughts. 8. I like to dance and sing when the streets are empty. When no one is around and I’m in a good mood. I love walking down the empty street thinking I’m shooting a music video. I sing, dance and act. Last time, I bumped into someone and I ran away in full embarrassment! [Laughs]. 9. I have a scar on my eye. 10. I may look picky, but I’m not a picky eater! I love trying a lot of different cuisines.
KEEHO
1. I love collecting sunglasses and glasses although my eyesight is near perfect. I love wearing glasses even though I don’t need them to see. I also have been collecting a lot of sunglasses lately. 2. I talk during my sleep, apparently! According to my members, I sleep-talk a lot (almost every night), but I don’t remember any of it and I never have dreams. 3. I have the same birthday as my dad! 4. I can eat salads all day. I love salads! I love eating vegetables, especially celery and carrots, and prefer dressings like ranch and oriental. 5. I am not good at smiling. I have a hard time smiling so I’m still in the process of learning how to smile naturally! I have to make sounds out loud to smile [during photo shoots]. 6. I used to hate wearing sweatpants. I don’t know why but I hated sweatpants and never wore them when I was younger― even if I had to wear something more uncomfortable like slacks or jeans.. Now, I wear them all the time! 7. I rarely cry alone or in front of people. The only person who has seen me cry is INTAK. I was going through something heavy and was alone at a park by myself when INTAK came to pick me up. He started crying as soon as he saw me, and that made me cry. 8. I used to pull all my loose baby teeth. I hated having something loose in my mouth, so instead of waiting to go to the dentist, I used to pull them out on my own. 9. I have a light (barely noticeable) mole on my big toe. 10. I have curly hair, so unless I blow dry it, it goes wild.
SOUL

JONGSEOB
1. I like books that are thick and with small letters for no particular reason. I tend to buy books that are thick, whatever the genre is. I think it’s because I’m a fast reader. 2. FEATURE: Where Some of Anime's Most Successful Directors Got Their Start
Hello everyone, and welcome to Why It Works. If you hadn’t noticed, Crunchyroll’s picked up some pretty tantalizing acquisitions over the last few weeks, including a film I’ve been meaning to watch for years: the Urusei Yatsura tie-in film, Beautiful Dreamer. In the film, the rom-com shenanigans of Lum and Ataru are transposed into an ambitious dream narrative where the nature of reality itself comes into question. Beautiful Dreamer’s deviation from its source material’s tone sparked controversy at the time of its release, but these days, it’s considered a classic of anime cinema — as well as one of the great works of its director, Mamoru Oshii. Yes, that Mamoru Oshii.
Though Oshii would eventually become renowned for directing films like Angel’s Egg and Ghost in the Shell, he didn’t simply emerge on the scene fully formed, as an auteur filmmaker with a full team behind him. Like all artists in anime, Oshii worked his way up, directing the first two seasons of the Urusei Yatsura anime before moving on to his film career.
Anime in general is kind of quirky that way. As a medium that’s largely aimed at young audiences, and which requires great capital and human resources to create any sort of larger product, anime’s “legendary film directors” rarely start off directing legendary films. Instead, they generally work their way up through the TV production pipeline, frequently attached to projects that seem wildly out of character, but which nonetheless demonstrate and cultivate their signature talents. Today I’d like to highlight just a few other legendary artists’ origin points and scratch at just how those roots informed their later works!
First off, if we’re talking about legendary anime film directors, then we can’t really avoid discussing Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki has gained worldwide acclaim for his feature films, which tend to blend traditional adventure narratives with a focus on the beauty of the world around us. Even though Miyazaki would only begin directing original films with Nausicaa, all of the seeds of his later work were planted decades earlier, when he collaborated with his mentor Yasuo Otsuka and future Ghibli partner Isao Takahata on the 1968 film Horus, Prince of the Sun.
Having established this early partnership with Takahata, Miyazaki went on to direct a group of television series that collectively embody the appeal of his later work: the madcap action of Lupin III, the coming-of-age drama and technological wonder of Future Boy Conan, and the magisterial naturalism of the World Masterpiece Theater productions. By the time Miyazaki began directing his own films — still working within the Lupin III universe, via The Castle of Cagliostro — all of the components that would define his output were honed to a fine point, and he’d already been collaborating with Takahata for 15 years. Given that history, it’s no surprise that Miyazaki’s very first films are still considered classics today.
Mamoru Hosoda, the acclaimed director of Wolf Children, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and other terrific films, was actually inspired to work in animation when he first saw The Castle of Cagliostro. Hosoda would make multiple attempts to collaborate with Miyazaki and was even briefly set to direct Ghibli’s adaptation of Howl’s Moving Castle, but his journey up the anime ladder ultimately took him in a different direction. Hosoda was picked up by Toei Animation, where he’d eventually direct two Digimon Adventure films. After directing Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!, he’d return to that same concept of collaborative battle in a virtual space for his later Summer Wars — and then again, for this summer’s upcoming Belle. Plus, it was actually his work on the phenomenal children’s anime Ojamajo Doremi that caught the eye of Madhouse producers, leading him onto his distinguished film career.
While Hosoda seems to be inspired by the narratives of his early franchise work, other directors bear their early influences in their visual style. So it goes for Masaaki Yuasa, whose mutating, impressionistic canvasses feel reminiscent of his early work, animating shows like Chibi Maruko-chan and Crayon Shin-chan. Children’s anime frequently allow for a more freeform, imaginative approach to character modeling, as children are generally less demanding of aesthetic consistency in their work. This situation creates a unique opportunity for a director like Yuasa, who seems to love exploring the limits of representational animation, as well as how drama can be conveyed through purely visual means. Through more recent works like Kaiba and Kick-Heart, Yuasa returns to the mutability and playfulness of form he was able to exercise through children’s animation.
Finally, if you know me, you probably know who I’m going to end this with. It almost feels like cheating to mention her, but it’s undoubtedly true that Naoko Yamada’s evolution across the two seasons of K-On! is one of our clearest recent artistic evolutions. As the consistent gags of the first season give way to an indescribably rich sense of place in the second, you can see a great director taking wing and establishing the style that would inform some of the best anime films of recent years. It is inspiring to see an artist at the height of their powers, but it can be fulfilling in a very different way to catalog their journey to that state — to see the works that moved them and sculpted their talents, and realize that even for the greatest artists, the process of achieving that excellence is a long journey. For anime’s great creators, their early works offer both inspiration and education — for them as creators, and for us as lovers of their art.
Who is your own favorite film director, or who do you think will be next to ascend to the cosmos? Let us know in the comments!
Nick Creamer has been writing about cartoons for too many years now and is always ready to cry about Madoka. You can find more of his work at his blog Wrong Every Time, or follow him on Twitter.
Do you love writing? Do you love anime? If you have an idea for a features story, pitch it to Crunchyroll Features!

Rules: Name 10 favorite characters from 10 different things. Tagged by @uglifish
1. Seto Kaiba from Yugioh. Do I even need to explain this one? Mai Valentine is a very close runner up.
2. Haruka Tenoh aka Sailor Uranus from Sailor Moon. I loved her strength and wisdom growing up, and the obvious relationship she had with Michiru (cousins!? ha!). I love her so much that I named my dog after her girlfriend, only because I’d rather be yelling “Neptune” at the dog park rather than “Uranus.” lol
3. Was torn between Kyoya or Kaoru from Ouran High School Host Club. It used to be Kyoya hands down, but Kaoru has grown on me; he’s very insightful and is willing to sacrifice his own happiness for his brother. (couldn’t find a gif without Hikaru; Kaoru’s the one on the left)
4. Trowa Barton from Gundam Wing. Can you guys guess yet how old I am? :p I love all the Gundam Pilots, and I love them all equally, even the ladies (especially Sally Po and Lucrezia Noin). I picked Trowa because if I were to write a fanfic then I’d probably have the easiest time getting into his head to form a perspective. And who doesn’t love 90s crazy bangs?
5. Sesshomaru from Inuyasha. I love that asshole, and I love how he secretly has a heart. Jaken is a close second because I love assholes.
6. Victor Nikiforov from Yuri!!! on Ice because I love dumbasses, too.
7. Hiei or Kurama from Yuyu Hakusho? This one’s tough, because really I love all the main cast. I would say Kurama because, well, it’s Kurama (and I adore him in the pink sweater!).
8. I was torn between Kurapika’s bassassery and Leoreo’s doofiness from Hunter x Hunter, but I remember the chills I got when Kurapika went full red-eyes and yeah, it’s gotta be him.
9. Spike Spiegel of Cowboy Bebop. This entire series means a lot to me, and it’s the group (Jet, Ed, Faye, Ein) as a whole that bring it together. There’s so much to love from this series.
10. Shin-chan from Crayon Shin-chan. I know, weird choice, right? I figgen love this stupid show. It’s just a feel good moment where you don’t have to think too hard to laugh.
I’ll probably go home and look at my Funko collection and be like ‘why didn’t I mention THAT one?!’
Tagging; Whomever. No pressure (ALL OF THE PRESSURE)
