as someone who's been living in Appalachia for most of my adult life, the fucking idiot who just got chosen as the conservative VP pick is a charlatan who made his name by looking down upon a misunderstood and mocked region and its lower class. un-fucking-believable.

Non comprehensive list of NPCs I think Matt Mercer will voice when campaign 2 gets animated
Artagan (kind of a given considering he's already done so in tlovm but whatever)
Essek
Uk'otoa
Lucien
Obann and/or the Laughing Hand
Pumat Sol
At least one somnovem member if they get any lines
Honorable mentions
The Gentleman because I can see it going either way
Yeza Brenatto, because I think it's more likely they'll get someone else to voice him but who knows. The chances matt chooses to voice yeza brenatto are low but never zero

the thing with doctor who i think is that it gets better the more you know. maybe this is true of all writing but i only know doctor who so we'll focus on that. but i think it gets better the more you know this is why my fic is not very good. i dont know many things. i think if you have a background in like, just any field you can use you can make your doctor who stories more interesting. like linguistics maths physics and music are things that come to mind for me that i would like to know to make my doctor who stories more interesting but i think it can work with, like, almost anything. biology stuff also works well adds a lot. sociology stuff history. if you know how to sew really well or youve worked in meat factories. just, if you have deep knowledge about something this will enrich your doctor who stories (again, might be true for literally every writing)
but also things you can know that are just lived and not books. like i said with that post about different countries' doctor whos, every country would bring its own history and values and perspective to the stories. but also like for example the class stuff or the queer stuff you see with rtds stories like anything a writer Knows will make their stories more interesting
and thats why doctor who could literally be so good If They Diversified Their Fucking Staff. in every sense of the word. you need disabled people, trans people, racialised people, people with different religions but you need people who know other things than writing too! which i get is difficult because theyre mostly working in their fields and not writing but like there are writers who are not or have not only ever just been writers. or just get writers with some weird fucking hobbies!
even in the most basic way even if you keep your entire show white christian able-bodied man, if you have more of those you will have better stories. it will still suck! but like, less than if you only have 1 guy writing right? thats not a novel concept artists know this writers know this thats why they work together. and i get that making tv is very complex and theres a lot of interests and a lot of choices being made that arent even to do with the stories but i find it so frustrating to think about how good doctor who could be if they let other people in to put their knowledge and their perspective in the stories
#and not just in the writing but in Every Department Obviously#i just dotn know how television is made so i dont know. like. what those are#the secret good disabled trans decolonialist doctor who that lives in my head man#like you know that feeling when an artist like...........Gets a certain theme or smth#like Knows what to do with it bc they have a certain own experience or knowledge#like when an artist truly fucking knows what theyre doing#you know that feeling? when youre like this SAYS something abt the theme/trope/idea/whatevs#you know?#doctor who is so full of unused potential#i feel like we're spinning our wheels a little bit#and maybe others feel that too bc showrunners keep being like WE NEED NEW SHOCK BIG NEW#but like. youre not gonna get that with the same old perspectives!#for truly new good refreshing you need some new good refreshing people on the mic#anyway. just. frustrates me#10 to the master but it's me to doctor who the show: you could be so much more!#like 13 and 15 are fun right? with the idk new outfit and the rwandan proverb on the sonic. fucks. but#to use rtds own words. ridiculous craven feeble gesture also a little bit. i want like. substantially good stories#i want to feel like the writer knows what theyre talking about you know?#you know that feeling#anyway#you get what im saying#the secret good doctor who that lives in my head man#except. it doesnt live in my head. bc it lives in many otherp eoples head. by definition#but sometimes i read like fic by friends who fucking Know things and im like damn#damn!!!!! doctor who could be so much better!!!!!!#i also think when youre a writer whos only a writer theres the risk of chasing your own tail a bit#in that th elonger youre a writer the more you only start writing about writing bc thats what you Know#i think thats a risk#also not a novel concept pretty sure professional writers are aware of that one gfhkjghgjg theyre not stupid

thinkin again about the time elyss's DM cut in to stop a conversation between her and a semi-retired player character to hurriedly take back control of him as an NPC before he could give her, as an extremely kind and thoughtful gift, one of his own personal belongings, and then said 'elyss can probably buy it from him though :)' instead
like. what an egregiously fucking shitty thing to do, actually.
#I think we were caught SO offguard that neither of us was able to articulate a good resistance although we both tried#eldryn's player: ...I mean... he WAS going to just give it to her#DM: haha well I don't wanna just give you guys too much stuff [???]#me: I mean-- you JUST gave us like? ten thousand gold and a castle that we didn't even ask for ......?#I HAVE the money [2000g????] and I don't actually care about losing it but.............???#DM: yeah so I just feel like I've already given you guys a lot lately#WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAID WAS: THAT WAS A GIFT BETWEEN CHARACTERS NOT 'THE DM GIVING US TOO MUCH'.#WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAID WAS 'YOU ARE CHANGING A KIND GESTURE FROM A GOODHEARTED MAN INTO A CRAVEN EXPLOITATION OF ELYSS FOR MONEY.'#WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAID WAS 'TAKING OVER A PLAYER CHARACTER IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONVERSATION BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT ELYSS TO HAVE A THING#'IS AN ABUSE OF DM POWER AND AN EGREGIOUS BREACH OF DM/ PLAYER TRUST.'#WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAID WAS 'WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE AGAINST ELYSS AND/OR ME PERSONALLY.'#and like. the actual consequences are so small. we were in a between-arcs timeskip we had BBEG Treasure Hoard money#Elyss loses 2000g and doesn't even miss it. Eldryn being a good friend IS canon and the DM can suck my dick about it#but on principle. on principle the fact that he did that. that is so incredibly shitty. you don't see that?#and for what? over an arbitrary price tag that I could afford without even missing it anyway?#over a magic item that's more psychological security blanket than anything particularly overpowered?#over powerplay dick waving over who REALLY gets to control Eldryn now that he's technically been retired as a PC?#what?? what is the reason??? ALL it accomplished was a fucking character assassination of a sweetheart character#which I think we've all privately decided didn't actually happen anyway because it's stupid and terrible and not fair of DM to Just Decide#and my already pretty flimsy trust in my friend as a DM sinking to unforeseen new lows#god. god.#about me#my OCs#elyss

can i just say i love anytime you drag romance readers? i literally have trauma from reading goodreads reviews. if i don't see a henry cavill or david gandy fancast ever again in my life i'll die happy.
HAHA thanks. I have a lot of friends and people I follow whose opinions I value even when I don't agree with them, and there are a lot of people who I think give good takes on romance novels, but like. I really dislike the "we as a united romancelandia stand together" perspective, because no. I don't stand with homophobic and racist readers, and I don't agree with reductive perspectives on the genre.
Plus, there's this inherent problem with a readership that does often take a "for women, by women" POV, when a) no, anyone can and should (if they wish) read it regardless of their gender, romance isn't just for women b) what they actually mean is "for [cis] women by [cis] women anyway c) they also mean for [white] women by [white] women.
Idk, I think it's important to enjoy things, but for me enjoying something usually comes with critiquing it and wanting better from it. I feel the same way about tons of other things. Because I love and respect it, I expect better of it. And I don't think you have to consume romance that way. I think you can just love it. But if I think a like... readerly pressure, I suppose... contributes to a drop in quality, I'll comment on it.
And on a shallower level, I think so many GR reviews are so ugly and I'm so tired of seeing the same white guys fancast for heroes every. Single. Time. And like, it's always pics of these dudes from 10 years ago anyway. FIND NEW HOT GUYS.

Civilization had been thrown into havoc with the outbreak of an atomic war in 1964. By 1974, one town had been surviving using the wisdom of “The Old Man in the Cave” in matters of what to eat and what to grow and other matters of survival. The peace of the town was disrupted by the arrival of soldiers claiming they were trying to unite the survivors and rebuild society. The lead soldier came into conflict with Mr. Goldsmith who was the only one who had been talking with the old man in the cave. To create discord, the lead soldier, named French, convinces the town’s people to eat canned food that the old man in the cave said was dangerous. To further distance the people from Mr. Goldsmith, French learned and revealed to the people that the Old Man in the Cave was actually a computer. However, the soldiers and the people of the town all died of food poisoning leaving only Mr. Goldsmith. ("The Old Man in the Cave", The Twilight Zone, TV)

Match Review: Fulham 0-1 Manchester United
It wasn't an easy game, or a comfortable result, but it was one where United showed desire and determination, and were it not for some extremely suspect refereeing it might have been a much clearer gulf between the two sides...
Tumblr media
The game started with a dramatic injury to Harry Maguire, whose missed header saw him faceplant a player's shoulder. A swollen eye socket for his troubles, but thankfully it wasn't serious enough to warrant substitution and Maguire managed to put in another very solid performance.
A nasty foul on captain Bruno Fernandes in the 8th minute led to a free kick; swung left side to Garnacho who played a beautiful ball back across to McTominay at the back post. The jubilation was short-lived however, with appeals for offside leading to a VAR check. In a highly unusual turn, the referee also took a look from the sideline - something PGMOL argue was because of the technical rules of the incident rather than the normal "clear and obvious error" from the on-field referee. In this case, Harry Maguire was adjudged offside. This despite not touching the ball or interfering with a defender who could stop Garnacho, but instead because he showed intent to attack the ball and thus was guilty. An interesting inconsistency compared to some other decisions made this season.
Tumblr media
Fulham's reaction to the goal being disallowed was one of increased tempo and determination. In many ways it felt like they had taken a 1-0 lead and had that confidence boost, the wind in their sails, that allowed them to play more expressive football.
The first half drew to an end slightly in United's favour but the second was a far more open affair. Brazilian winger Antony was notably awful on the right side, which saw him substituted fairly quickly for Facundo Pellistri, and it was a remarkable change of intensity, desire, and competence down that right side for United. The scrappy little Uruguayan with his low centre of gravity and a tenacious approach to duels caused Fulham trouble - trouble which opened up opportunities.
An 84th minute chance nearly led to a sensational goal from substitute Anthony Martial, but it was the Captain who became the man of the hour in the 90th minute. Good pressure from Martial, McTominay and Pellistri allowed Fernandes a chance on the edge of the box. A feint left, cut back right, and ping bottom corner past Leno. 1-0 United, and a deserved 3 points for the Red Devils after it felt like perhaps fate had intervened and stolen away a much needed win.
Tumblr media
After heavy criticism of Fernandes and Ten Hag in the past few days, both men will be relieved to have claimed the win away at Craven Cottage. The hope now is that a run of form can begin.
Ten Hag spoke to TNT Sports post-match and was questioned by Rio Ferdinand on the lack of team identity or play style this season. Ten Hag's response was that injuries had curtailed any sense of a predictable XI and that had hindered synergy or familiarity, but it is something the Dutchman needs to address quickly. November is upon us - there have been enough games and training sessions now for players to gel.
There are concerns to be had about many players; Bruno Fernandes being too stroppy, Rashford's lack of goals, players not finding enough passes to Højlund up front, but most pressing is the Antony situation. He has been the Manager's Favourite for a while, to the ire of Jadon Sancho. Poor club operations led to United paying double the asking price for him, but even if United had paid £40m, Antony hasn't even lived up to that. He's pacey and holds the ball up well, but he's unfathomably one-footed and fails take-ons almost every time. United's fatal flaw on the attack for years had been a lack of midfielders, and then it switched to being heavily LW-orientated.
Tumblr media
If Ten Hag wants to keep the good times rolling he needs to work on Antony - whether that's tactical changes to encourage better match habits from him or benching him for the eager Pellistri. Something has to change if United want to retain a top 4 spot this season, and games against København, Luton and Everton are the perfect time to act.

Motherland Fort Salem is the first show I've seen since Little Witch Academia with a more nuanced approach to leadership, or rather, the way different kinds of people move things forward. In LWA, Akko was the provocateur. She came in with the big ideas, big talk, and willingness to throw herself at things for the sake of them. This would often inspire her friends to help her. One aspect of this, though, is that one reason Akko gathered so many to help her in her plans was that, especially in the earlier episodes, she needed all of the help she could get. In Stanship Takes Off, a much more capable and confident Akko instead is happy to become the helper, supporting her friend's big ideas. Akko is a ringleader, but very much not a traditional leader. Still, even for the series finale of LWA, the final configuration is that Akko sets the stage for the big game-changing idea, and it takes a partner like Diana to see it through with her to reality. As well, the previous generation fails at the same goal because of not having built the same kind of wider relationship network. In LWA, leadership is explicitly a collaborative thing. We see this in Motherland Fort Salem, especially in the developments from S1 to S2. In S1, we begin with the idea of totalizing excellence, from the expectations of the Bellweather family to the dominating authority of Alder, to the expectation of death from touching the Mycelium. Raelle can only perform small petty rebellions, feeling helpless against the scope of the institution's entrenchment. Tally and Abigail both believe that the latter is meant to command others to follow her over a cliff. Scylla answers to a faceless balloon who threatens her life. Anacostia is the perfect soldier. S2 shifts all of those dynamics to something more like LWA. Raelle is "the chosen one" with special powers, but doesn't inspire people to action. Even moreso, neither does Abigail, whose conventional capability only barely sways Adil's heart. Obviously, the entire season is about Alder's downfall. And in the same way that all of the Into The Badlands' cast spend most of the plot reacting to The Widow's initiatives, pegging her as the true protagonist of the narrative, Tally Craven becomes the nexus around which Motherland Fort Salem's world meaningfully moves. Though Tally is much more capable on her own compared to Akko, like the reason why Akko was chosen by the Shiny Rod, Tally is thinking on a level up from everyone else, about what should be beyond what is possible. She pulls Raelle the raw talent and Abigail the honed ambition into executing her intent. It's no coincidence that her big talent is Sight. Tally is literally the one with vision. (Meanwhile, the Mycelium is revealed to be the opposite of the totalizing authority Alder has become. Instead, it was the epitome of her most human moment and a collective of human emotion, a reaction to the tragedies created by political backstabbing.)
