Yep I call that era for most beloved 3D platformers the “Whatever” era cause they was just doing whatever aside from what made them appealing.
Companies started getting weird with it. We all know about Rayman and Rabbids being a party game for a bit. But there was also Spyro who just had a reboot that goes for a more darker and serious tone and less platforming in favor of action in fact the final game of that era Dawn of the Dragon was a God of War clone. Then after that came Skylanders.
Crash Bandicoot turned from a tight platformer inspired by Looney Tunes into a weird beat ‘‘em up game where you possessed giant monsters. Jak barely got a game until The Lost Frontier came out on PSP and PS2 in 2009…it flopped and wasn’t really liked.
Banjo Kazooie turned from a open 3D platformer into a vehicle based game where you build machines for different mini games and tasks.
Ape Escape’s last game was motion control on rails shooter instead of a platformer that it was known for.
Like I said they were just doing anything with these series
Ooh true true. I also know Sly 4 also became really hated by fans due to the ending and some of the characters being changed for the worse. Gameplay wise, I can't say if it was good or bad as most of my memories are of the second and third game instead.
In any case, that era was definitely filled with a lot of executive meddling or doing what they thought would sell well without understanding their audience.

Witcher Season 3
- Very surprised Netflix is doing a season 3 of a show! Definitely a way to try and distract from the WGA strike bc why pay for writers when we can announce a beloved series and make people forget?
- Don't like Cavill for some things he's done but good for him to play a role he has passion for. I know he said he wasn't gonna be in season 4 bc of the writing direction so.

- hä? i thought this was supposed to be like. phantom liberty?? or like. something. kinda a let down for a finale (at least bc of the hype i've seen)

I got all the new spirits and... I know this is old news and all but... I can't thank Sakurai enough for what he has done with this game and with the spirits. I understand the people who miss the trophies, they were really cool.
But the sheer amount of characters you can actually put into the game by using existing art and all the lovely references that the developers put into the spirit battles are so much cooler than what the trophy and the stickers were. Okay, trophies have nice descriptions which makes them more useful for people that are unfamiliar with the characters. But for people that are familiar with the characters, nothing beats KNOWING why the Aerith spirit battle is at the Fountain of Dreams and Cloud is trying to protect her. Nothing beats knowing why the Cait Sith spirit battle has 3 Mr. Game & Watch spamming Judge. Even if you got the plot of FFVII spoiled you won't get the reference. You need to play the actual game.
The part that really warms my heart is that Sakurai didn't need to try so hard to make bonus battles that are so perfect for the characters. He didn't need to constantly update the game with more spirits and he certainly didn't need to give us so many. Most people would have been 100% satisfied with just the playable characters from 7. But no, he gave us Shiva, who was sadly missing from the game despite being the most popular summon (or is Bahamut more popular?). He gave us the Turks. They have many fans, sure but not enough to get in Kingdom Hearts or Dissidia apperently, so nobody would have been surprised if they were skipped.
Elena (or Irina if you are japanese) is one of my favorite characters ever, and my first videogame crush. And she is now in the best game of all time. This really feels like a Chistmas gift from Sakurai. I am so happy. I was so happy when Shantae was a spirit at launch. I was so happy when Igor from Persona was added as a spirit, when Leon S. Kennedy from RE4 was added (and his Spirit Battle references that game perfectly too), when Sans got a costume, when music from the Metal Slug games got in with Terry.
I understand that Smash hype and discourse will always be about playable characters, but sometimes we all really need to take a minute to appreciate all that Smash Ultimate is OUTSIDE its massive roster. I am mostly a fan of minor characters who have no realistic chance of getting in the game at all, which is why I mostly give support to characters who wouldn't make me cry tears of joy, or would become my mains, but have a good chance of bringing with them spirits (or background characters if Sakurai pulls another Terry) that would make me so happy.
Ryu Hayabusa, a pretty boring ninja if you ask me, but one of the most important recurring characters in Ninja Gaiden is my beloved Ayane who would get in as a spirit, so come on Ryu supporters WE GOTTA MAKE HIM HAPPEN!
Someone from Soul Calibur? Sure, anything to get a Voldo spirit.
Someone from Tekken? I love Xiaoyu, King, Yoshimitsu, Nina, Anna and Paul so fricking much, and at least a couple of them are guaranteed if we get Jin or something.
Crash Bandicoot? YES! A Cortex spirit would be the best.
Sora? Only worth it for the Roxas spirit.
Byleth? Not my first choice, but I don't get all the people who are mad because they wanted the house leaders. I'm too busy smiling because the house leaders got wondeful spirit battles (and also Seteth for some reason).
When smash speculation and wishlists are involed, you guys seem to care about who gets in as a playable character, the bonus stuff you don't care about (unless it's missing, like FF music until now. Then you suddenly care). I care about the bonus content and who gets in as playable matters just a little bit to me. Which makes me weird. But to me the spirits are what makes Smash Ultimate the best smash game and I'm willing to die on this hill.
Imagine being a Mallow fan. Barely anyone discusses or even remembers him. Everyone goes nuts about that stupid puppet who is literally just as important as your Mallow but he gets to appear in cameos and stuff, while Mallow is left in the dust. Then Ultimate comes out and Mallow is a spirit. It's not a Geno & Mallow spirit, Geno doesn't get to intrude in anyway. It's just a simple spirit battle who references your favorite game. A little detail. But you have never felt so seen and cared for as a Mallow fan.
The devil is in the details, and the masterpiece is in the details too. If Smash Ultimate had exactly the same roster, with the same gameplay, but no care and love for details in the background, in the victory screens and its approach to single player content was more on the level of Smash 4...
It would still be an 8.5/10 game at minimum, but it would also be so much worse at what its trying to do.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's been two years and Smash Ultimate is still such a beautiful game that keeps being given attention and players keep going back to it not just because it's a really pretty games with good gameplay mechanics. But because every inch of it has been crafted with love, care and attention to details.
You can have the best gameplay, and the nicest graphics but if you don't care to put all your passion into polishing your game as much as possible nobody will care (coughcoughMarvelVsCapcomInfinitecough)

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time Review
Crash is back for a third time in Crash 4: It’s About Time. Following two remakes, Crash returns in this brand new game for the first time in twelve years. Taking place after the events of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, (thus omitting the events of the fourth and final canonical game of the original series) Crash 4 has the titular character once again facing off against the now joined forces of Neo Cortex & Nefarious Tropy, He, his sister Coco, and Aku Aku & Quantum Mask Lani-Loli work together t0 stop them from interfering with the fabric of space-time before all of existence collapses on itself.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is a 2020 platformer game, it is developed by Toys for Bob, and published by Activision. It is currently available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Editor’s Note: A review copy for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was provided by Activision in support of this coverage. Near complete to complete spoilers for Crash 4 may be present in this review
Activision goes all in on Crash with a new entry for the first time since 2008.
After many, many, many (and many still) years Activision has returned to one of it’s most beloved properties in Crash Bandicoot. Having attempted a reboot in 2008 that was in fairness moderately successful enough to garner it’s own sequel, Activision gave the Crash franchise another life by remaking the first three games from the ground up as well as it’s racer Crash Nitro Team Racing. While it ignores the events of then canonical final game of the original 90s series, it’s quite clear that the Crash of old is here to stay at least for another good while. In Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time you play as Crash, Coco, Cortex, and an alternative timeline version of Crash’s ex girlfriend Tawna as well as former enemy turned ally Dingodile as Crash and co. use the new Quantum Masks to control space-time to stop Cortex and Tropy from destroying existence from where it stands.
Meet the new and improved Crash in Crash 4: It’s About Time.
THE GOOD: In Crash 4, Crash and Coco are out relaxing at home before Aku Aku senses a disturbance; the return of Cortex & Tropy to their world. Going off in a nearby temple Crash discovers a Quantum Mask known as Lani-Loni who is one of several that can control certain aspects of reality such as bending time and space. Quantum Mask are essentially the elders of Aku Aku and the Guardians and like Aku Aku, Lani-Loni has several relatives. Lani-Loni decides to trust Crash and co. having seen them befriend Aku with finding his own brothers to fix the fabric of time that has been broken by Cortex & Tropy’s return. Crash and the others race through time and space against Cortex and Tropy before meeting an alternate version of Crash’s ex-girlfriend Tawna who lends her assistant while simultaneously doing her own thing. As Crash, Coco, and Tawna along with Aku Aku & Lani-Loni try to stop Cortex and Tropy, Crash’s former enemy Dingodile has reformed and opened a restaurant. Following his restaurant being burned down by a rivaling restaurant Dingodile begins inadvertently aiding Crash and the others across space time. Crash finds most of the Quantum Masks and face off against Cortex. only for Cortex to be betrayed by Tropy upon his defeat who reveals his new ally; an alternative female version of himself from alt Tawna’s universe. Cortex agrees to help Crash defeat the Trophies out of spite. With their combined forces they beat the Trophies, collect all the Quantum Masks, and save space-time. The group take a trip to the future to celebrate their victory, but Cortex plans his own betrayal taking Quantum Mask Kupana-Wa to travel back to the past of Crash’s invention in an effort to stop it. Past Cortex refuses to stop the experiment and Present Crash & the others send Present Cortex to the ends of the universe. Crash accidentally intervenes in Past Cortex’s experiment on Past Crash essentially ensuring the timeline is mostly intact. Dingodile reopens his restaurant, Cortex is on a beach, and Crash, Coco, Tawna, and the masks play games on N. Sanity Island. A dimensional rift opens in front of Cortex revealing Uka Uka who was previously thought to be dead is alive.
The Crash crew are playable again for the modern age with a new dimension jumping story.
Toys for Bob being the quality developers they are had a lot to work with by trying to make the Crash formula feel refreshing and new & damn did they nail it. From it’s humor, character direction, and insanely difficult gameplay Crash feels as good as it ever has. Even with the nostalgia Crash 4 does what many years-long sequels fail to accomplish and that’s riding on it’s past glory while also providing something new. This is mostly done through the Quantum Masks and their unique abilities, but there’s also new mechanics for it’s platforming such as wall running. Admittedly the newer aspects feature in Crash 4 aren’t many, but it doesn’t have to be and it’s partly why being a fan of a series and hoping for a new entry & getting it years later can be so frustrating. Often times we don’t get a mix of nostalgia and something new it’s either one or the other. Granted I’ve only recently become a Crash fan having missed out on the series during my childhood, but this issue applies to almost everything that takes a hiatus and comes back. And it says a lot that Crash was gone for over eleven years and still pulled it off. Crash 4’s faithfulness while also trying something new is one of several reasons why Toys For Bob have become such a fan-favorite developer.
Enemies become friends in Crash 4.
THE BAD: Just like the originals Crash 4 is am extremely difficult game so if you aren’t prepared for patience and turbulence then you’re probably going to be in for a very bad time. I honestly can’t stress enough how hard this game actually is and there are times when deaths feel cheap often coming out of nowhere, but you get the hang of your landings and such fairly quick. In regards to the story I personally think time travel has been done to death the last half a decade. but I will admit that for the continuation of Crash that Activision & Toys For Bob are going for it makes. Clearly, they want to reboot the series without alienating fans of the original nor abandoning the original plot so to work around this without too much plotholing or a full on reboot time travel actually works fairly well to circumvent the direction.
New powers and abilities prepare Crash for a grand comeback for years to come.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Crash 4: It’s About Time brings a classic flavor to a modern aesthetic with a blend of old school platforming and time-bending level jumping. While the story does have a bit of redundancy it’s done so in such a way that still respects the original trilogy while given a ton of options for Crash’s full-fledged revival in the near future. Co-op, secret tapes, unlockable costumes (for free) and multiple endings provide tons of hours of replayability and in most cases you’re going to want to experience everything the game has to throw at you.

who do you think the next fighter pack is gonna be?
I’m just gonna use this post to talk about all the characters that are in Smash circulation that I think are likely, although some will have reasons for doubt on there as well. There’s a lot of leaks that lean in one particular character’s direction (although the most prominent leak that lists the character was proven wrong), so they’ll be listed here in a random spot.
Doomguy is a gaming icon, and a lot of people love him, so despite his overwhelming amount of violence, he wouldn’t be a bad fit.
Tracer wouldn’t surprise me too much, what with Overwatch being on the Switch now (although every game ever is gonna be on the switch so...), and despite it not being as popular as it has been in the past, Tracer still has a lot of character recognition, although I’m not sure what the moveset would be.
An Undertale rep is getting thrown around, and on one hand it wouldn’t shock me, but on the other, I feel like Sans & Megalovania is the bone (no pun intended) being thrown to the community. It’s a hopeful but I wont give my hopes up.
Ryu Hyabusa from Ninja Gaiden would work, since Ninja Gaiden is an NES classic that’s been beloved for a long time, with the only real obstacle being two characters with the same name (although Roy technically was a thing, Roy Koopa was at least an alt skin) and newer NG games being not nearly as prominent
Phoenix Wright is a character that a lot of people like to toss around, and for good reason. He’s beloved by many and he deserves the love. I do think he’s a little iffy since he was in MvC3 as a non-standard fighting game character, and I feel like the chance to compare would make things messy. I think Professor Layton would be a better fit for this kind of deal.
Crash Bandicoot is pretty likely since he’s been a gaming icon since the PS1. It’s the one character I don’t want, but if he DOES make it in, then I’ll still be happy for all the Crash fans, because he would make a LOT of people happy. That said, Spyro is an infinitely better choice.
In terms of who I DO want, my most wanted that is completely outside the realm of possibility is Quote from Cave Story (but that’s on a wish and a prayer), while my number one hope of characters who actually have a chance is just any Rhythm Heaven rep. I find this one really likely since there seemed to be plans to add the Chorus Kids in Smash 4...
Geno. At this point he’d be only in as a testament to Smash Speculation, and honestly that would be pretty cash money.
Sora and Steve are also discussed quite a bit, and while their chances are still out there with more DLC announced, the fact that Square and Microsoft already have reps makes it a little less likely. Not impossible, but not very likely (as much as I would love either of them)
Reimu and Shantae are talked about a lot, and while their chances aren’t completely dead in the water, I don’t think either of them should be anything more than a Mii Costume. Don’t hate them as characters, I just don’t think they should be their own fighter.
People legitimately comparing Sans being a Mii Costume to Goku being in are absolute clowns.

Classic Confrontation
I am, for good reason, known as a Nintendo guy. But it wasn't always that way. Even though I grew up on the NES and Super NES, I was more of a PlayStation guy than an N64 guy, and I worked at multiplatform publications before I joined NP. So it's not a stretch to say that I know a thing or two about the games that defined the original PlayStation - and I don’t think the 20 titles on the PlayStation Classic are quite it. Sure, some are all-time greats, but a lot of the games were mere afterthoughts back in their day, and many of the system's most beloved titles are missing in action. Since everyone's giving their opinions on it, here are the 20 games I'd choose as a more reasonable snapshot of what the PS1 was all about while still being well-rounded and fairly fun to play even today. Hi there just want to ask what are some of your fav game series and games.
Hey there! Thanks for the question!
Wow, when I sat down and thought about it, a lot more things came to mind than I thought they would. lol So bear with me a bit. My most beloved series vary quite a bit lol But what comes to mind from over the years has always been:
1. Kingdom Hearts - favs being KH1, CoM, 2, BBS, and 3.
2. Metal Gear Solid - just all of them XD Even Portable Ops, though not the Metal Gear Acid or Rising games as I have not played.
3. Final Fantasy (franchise) - most of the numbered titles, but my favs being the 7, 13, and 14 series.
4. Mass Effect - ME Trilogy, not including Andromeda
5. God of War series - ZEUSSSS!!! XD
6. Fire Emblem - Awakening and Three Houses, but I've deep-dived into the lore of other games and it's very cool
That's going by series, but what ABSOLUTELY is a part of my favorite pool of games are:
1. Persona 5 Royal
2. Tales of Arise
3. Genshin Impact
4. Dragon Quest XI
I've only played those games in their respective series (not including Genshin since it is only the one game technically), but wow, are they really good. I love these games and the writing/gameplay is great in each one. I might play the new DQXIII whenever it comes out, and I still have to check out some of the prior Persona games (and maybe the parallel SMT series, idk, looks neat).
Of course honestly, I've come from a bit of an earlier era haha In that, a lot of game series I also enjoy are inherent to being a part of my childhood, like Oni (absolute great, forgotten game by Bungie), Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank, Jak & Daxter, Tony Hawk Underground, Zone of the Enders, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, etc. Most things from the PS1 and 2 era that are long forgotten, I've pretty much played and enjoyed. Haha And my dad use to have this computer driver that had all these arcade/comp games on it back in the late 90's and I played them all the time.
My tastes definitely are a range, but the mainstream stuff like CoD and Halo, I was very selective about and haven't played them all, especially the latter, since I was primarily a Sony guy, I only ever played Halo at my friends house (except for the first one, which I had on the computer).

15 Hardest PlayStation 2 Games of All-Time
https://ift.tt/3ymumBc
Over 155 million PlayStation 2s have been sold to date, but few of those 150+ million PS2 owners have ever come close to beating the beloved console’s hardest games.
Sure, the PS2 may have helped make 3D games significantly more “playable,” and yes, it did slowly pull us away from the era of absurdly difficult arcade-style games, but it was also the console that seemingly inspired a new generation of developers to ask “What does the future of incredibly difficult games look like?”
Their answers include a driving game where mistakes are not an option, a rhythm game harder than actually learning an instrument, a beat-em-up that beats you up, and more of the absolute hardest PS2 games ever made.
15. Stuntman
Stuntman rides that line between “broken” and “designed to be difficult,” but I feel like this unique driving game is still playable enough to be rightfully recognized as one of the PS2’s most difficult experiences.
Stuntman is defined by the kind of razor-thin margin of error you typically don’t see outside of the toughest bullet hell shooters. This is an already mechanically challenging driving game made worse by the fact you only have a couple of seconds to react to frustratingly vague on-set stunt requests. It forces you to embrace that brand of trial and error gameplay that would be impossible to endorse if the novelty of playing as a movie stuntman wasn’t so appealing.
14. Manhunt
Manhunt is a grindhouse classic that deserves more love than it typically receives, but like so many stealth titles of this era, it’s also a maddeningly frustrating game that may have chased off more than a few potential fans with its unforgiving gameplay.
While you’re technically allowed to make a mistake in Manhunt, most players will find that the odds of recovering from those mistakes are so low that you might as well hit reset the moment that you’re caught. Oh, and this game’s “Hardcore” difficulty mode is even more brutal than the fictional snuff movie you’re supposedly participating in.
13. Pac-Man World 2
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who see Pac-Man World 2 on a list of hard games and think “What?” and those who hear the name Pac-Man World 2 and immediately unlock a treasure trove of painful memories.
Some of Pac-Man World 2’s levels are pretty challenging in their own right, but only those who have tried to 100% this game know how hard it really is. While I’ve since seen people beat this game’s toughest time trials, there was a point in my life when I was ready to believe they were actually impossible. If this was a Crash Bandicoot game, it’d arguably be the hardest Crash Bandicoot game ever.
12. God of War
While not the most difficult 3D action game of the PS2 era (we’ll talk about those games in a second), it’s sometimes easy to forget just how hard the original God of War really was.
God of War’s combat is more than enough to keep you on your toes, but what puts this one over the top is the section where you have to climb a rotating tower of spikes and blades in order to escape the afterlife. This section belongs in the Hall of Fame of frustratingly difficult platforming challenges in non-platforming games.
11. Airblade
Airblade was unfairly dismissed as a Tony Hawk knockoff at the time of its release, but this game actually had quite a few things going for it that helped it stand apart. Having said that, Airblade could have been a significantly less difficult game if developer Criterion Software had only borrowed some of THPS’ better ideas.
The biggest offenders here are Airblade’s time limits and the structure of its challenges. Like classic THPS games, Airblade tasks you with completing a number of objectives in every level within a certain time limit. Unlike THPS, Airblade makes you complete all of those objectives in one perfect run before the time limit expires. Even “good” gamers will have a hard time overcoming the mental exhaustion of repeating the same challenges over and over.
10. Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
The Breath of Fire games tend to be pretty challenging, but even this series’ biggest fans will usually concede that Dragon Quarter abuses whatever privileges the franchise may otherwise enjoy in that department.
Dragon Quarter’s early challenges are tough enough for those who go into this game with some understanding of how it all works, but the fact that most people are expected to overcome them while learning this game’s unique (and complicated) mechanics is just too much. Some of the game’s later boss fights even have a way of making you feel like you still don’t understand what you’re doing even when you’re a lowly level one character all over again.
9. Gitaroo Man
While Guitar Hero 3 deserves a little love for the absurd difficulty of its final song tier (not to mention the infamous “Through the Fire and Flames”), the PS2’s hardest rhythm game will always be Gitaroo Man.
Most of Gitaroo Man offers relatively reasonable challenges for dedicated rhythm gamers, but this game’s Master Mode challenges are just shy of physically impossible. Actually, “physical” is a great way to describe this game’s difficulty, as anyone who isn’t able to endure quite a bit of hand pain will probably never be able to 100% this one.
8. Jak 2
While Jak 2 is a fairly difficult game all the way through, I’d say about 80% of this Naughty Dog classic is actually fairly well-balanced and should be accessible to action-adventure/platformer fans of various skill levels.
As you probably figured out, it’s the other 20% of the game that earns Jak 2 its reputation as well as a spot on this list. There’s a handful of difficulty spikes in this game that will leave you wondering whether you’ve done something wrong or somehow accidentally changed a setting. It certainly doesn’t help that this game’s checkpoint system often forces you to replay some of those sections over and over again.

7. Black
Black is another one of those games that’s hard to rank in terms of difficulty due to the extreme differences between its various difficulty settings. If you’re a somewhat seasoned FPS gamer playing Black on “Easy” or “Normal,” you’ll probably find that this game doesn’t offer many challenges that you aren’t able to overcome through the usual amount of persistence.
Black is an entirely different beast on “Hard” and “Black Ops” settings, though. It’s bad enough that you can be killed by a gentle breeze in those modes, but the fact you’re asked to complete additional objectives while navigating a buffet of bullets is downright cruel.
6. Godhand
There’s never really been another action game quite like Godhand. This bizarre beat-em-up combines elements of 3D action games like Devil May Cry with classic arcade brawlers, but emphasizes learning the patterns of individual enemies rather than mowing down waves of foes. To make things worse, the game features a twist on the old “tank control” system that forces you to adapt to a much slower pace than you’re typically used to seeing in these kinds of games.
Put it all together, and you’ve got a game that is constantly forcing you to learn new tricks just to survive. If you’re not the kind of gamer than can pull off complicated fighting game combos in the heat of battle, you might not be able to survive this truly unique action game.
5. Armored Core: Last Raven
“Difficult” is obviously the first word that comes to mind when I think of FromSoftware games, but the second would have to be “balanced.” For a studio that is obviously pretty well known for making hard games, most FromSoftware titles are actually surprisingly well-balanced.
Then there’s Armored Core: Last Raven. While I have to give FromSoftware credit for making an Armored Core game that challenged even the series’ most dedicated fans, the way this game essentially forces you to master even the most seemingly minor mechanics all but ensures that only those with the right combination of patience and skills will be able to even make progress in it much less dream of beating it.
4. Contra: Shattered Soldier
Saying that a Contra game is hard is just about the hottest take this side of “water is wet,” so the more interesting conversation regarding this series has instead always been “What is the hardest Contra game ever?”
Well, I’d still have to give that honor to Contra: Hard Corps, but Shattered Soldier absolutely belongs in that conversation. This is a pure arcade-style shooter that throws in just enough modern (or somewhat modern) gameplay twists to ensure that even those who consider themselves skilled at retro Contra games will struggle to see the end of one of the PS2’s best action titles.
3. Devil May Cry 3
After establishing the franchise formula in the first Devil May Cry and suffering through a significant sophomore slump in Devil May Cry 2, Capcom decided to get crazy with it and make Devil May Cry 3 arguably the most difficult 3D action game ever.
While it’s true that the original North American release of this game is technically the hardest version (due to the fact that Capcom raised the difficulty of every optional setting before reverting that decision in subsequent re-releases), it really doesn’t matter which version of this game you play. This is an absolute masterpiece in difficult game design, and I love the Devil May Cry team for everything that it is just as I kind of hate them for the same reason.
2. Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
The developers of Maximo: Ghosts to Glory were seemingly determined to see whether or not it was possible to translate the kind of absurd 2D-style difficulty the Ghosts and Goblins games were known for into a 3D environment. In the process, they created something that may be even more difficult than those legendarily challenging 2D classics.
Ghosts to Glory’s combat is as difficult as you’d expect it to be given this game’s pedigree, but this time around, you’ve got to also deal with a surprising amount of frustrating platforming sections that will have you falling down endless pits time and time again. This game may look “slower” than the original Ghost and Goblins adventures, but in its own way, it doesn’t let you breathe for a second.
1. Shinobi
I’ll stand by anyone who argues that Shinobi is one of the most creative, underrated, and overall best 3D action games ever made. Having said that, I can not in good conscience talk about this game without mentioning that it’s the kind of difficult that will make 90% of people rightfully give up on it after only a few hours (or even minutes).
What makes Shinobi so difficult? Let me count the ways:
A sword that slowly drains your life if you’re not killing enemies
Fairly common enemies that can block nearly all of your attacks
Platforming sections that demand nothing short of perfection
An infuriating lack of mid-level checkpoints
Boss battles that often combine the game’s hardest combat and platforming mechanics
A lock-on system that is necessary for success but often leads to your accidental death
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
People who live for hard games will often admit that Shinobi is sometimes too difficult for its own good, which is honestly kind of an achievement in and of itself.

Our Personal and Amazing Journey in Video Games, So Far
We predict we communicate for everybody once we say that video video games are as wonderful as they’re magical. They entertain, encourage and enthral us in ways in which appeared virtually inconceivable merely 4 many years in the past. From the standard Pong in 1972 to epic adventures like Ghost of Tsushima in 2020, video video games have the flexibility to move us to faraway locations within the consolation of our personal houses.
And, simply as we evolve, so too will video video games. We might not know what the long run holds for us however we’re positive as hell and rattling effectively excited.
Along side Video Video games Day on Sept 12, the IGN Southeast Asia crew share their private tales chronicling their journey in video video games and the way their ardour formed not solely their childhood but additionally helped carve their very own path within the trade.
The non-public accounts you’re about to learn might sound acquainted and even ring a bell amongst a few of you, and that simply goes to indicate the common enchantment of gaming. We hope you get pleasure from studying our tales as a lot as we did writing them.
Natasha Hashim, Content material Producer at IGN Southeast Asia
My title is Natasha and a few of it’s possible you’ll know me as Tashbunny. I’m a Content material Producer at IGN Southeast Asia and I’m so fortunate to have the ability to work in a discipline associated to video video games – one thing close to and expensive to my coronary heart.
My journey into video video games isn’t as early or as fascinating as most of my gamer associates my age. I used to be solely in a position to bounce into the world of video video games with each ft once I was 13 when my father acquired me a PlayStation 2 to have a good time one among my first enormous achievements in life – 5As in UPSR (an vital examination in Malaysia).
Nonetheless, I did handle to get my ft moist earlier with different types of video games. After I was between 4 and ten years outdated, my mother and father would purchase me these instructional video games known as Jumpstart to assist me study Math, English, Historical past and Science. The sport is closely primarily based on the American curriculum as an alternative of the Malaysian one, which meant that half the stuff I realized from the sport didn’t actually translate effectively into what I realized in class however that isn’t actually the purpose. The purpose is that it uncovered me to video video games at such an early age and confirmed me the fundamentals of what a online game is.
Since then, I’ve at all times been fascinated by my cousins taking part in video games on their Recreation Boy Colour, the Recreation Dice and even the PlayStation 1.
Tumblr media
When you requested me which recreation actually set me off into the world of video video games, it might be Kingdom Hearts. What made the sport additional particular is the truth that it was lent to me by a woman I turned associates with on the bus to high school. We weren’t actually associates on the time however we ultimately bonded over the video games she loaned to me.
Previous to that, the one video games I knew have been mainstream video games comparable to Tekken, Tenchu and Crash Bandicoot. Due to her, I used to be launched to the wonderful world of RPGs and JRPGs. Suikoden, Ultimate Fantasy, Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Tales, Star Ocean – these have been the sorts of video games you’d see me play again and again.
Rising up, I used to be very lonely. I’ve at all times been very chatty. I beloved to speak and most youngsters my age didn’t like that. My mother and father have been strict; they by no means let me exit and socialize with associates. After all, my rebellious nature rising up didn’t make issues higher both – I used to be virtually at all times grounded, which implies I couldn’t exit and have enjoyable with my associates on the park within the evenings.
That’s why I’d at all times flip to video video games to flee my loneliness.
Tumblr media
Video video games took me to faraway worlds, launched me to wonderful music and even acquired me inquisitive about drawing and writing my very own novels again within the day. It gave me a lot when it comes to creativity and inspiration.
Even if I used to be additionally bullied for liking video video games, I caught to it. My mother and father have been typically upset that I’d slightly be on my laptop or console as an alternative of doing actions higher suited to a woman.
I feel part of me determined to stay to this path as a solution to present my mother and father and the world how fallacious they have been about me and video video games. One other half is ready for that feeling I get once I play “the proper recreation” and end it with this wonderful and indescribable feeling in my coronary heart.
Both method, I like video video games and the way they impacted my life. I’m so fortunate that it has introduced me to the place I’m as we speak.
Zahra AlHadad, Intern at IGN Southeast Asia
Hello! So I’m Zahra and I’m presently the intern right here at IGN SEA. I used to be actually so excited to begin right here and I’m honoured that I even was thought of. I regularly get pleasure from my time whereas studying a lot as a result of video video games are such an vital a part of my life.
Tumblr media
My starting with video video games included video games on the polar reverse ends of one another. On one aspect, I did the traditional factor a younger woman would when she had a PS2: play each Bratz and Barbie recreation obtainable. On the opposite, I incessantly performed in opposition to my father and outdated greatest pal in video games like Name Of Obligation, FIFA, and X-Males: Subsequent Dimension.
I used to remain up as a lot as I might to grind on Bratz Girlz Actually Rocks (a wierd sentence contemplating the sport itself) and used each controllers to play each groups in FIFA to ensure my crew gained and my rank within the league skyrocketed. Nonetheless, I fell out of it when the PS3 was launched as a result of my household determined to not get a gaming console anymore.
It wasn’t till I acquired my first smartphone once I was reintroduced to it by watching gaming movies on YouTube religiously since I couldn’t afford to purchase any console or recreation. I got here again proper in throughout the period of indie horror video games like Slender and 5 Nights At Freddy’s. After which, the discharge of The Final Of Us with its wonderful story sealed the deal. From then on, I used to be pulled again to the deep finish, introducing myself to all these completely different aspects of gaming. I turned an avid fan of the Overwatch League, downloaded Dragon Age into my laptop computer (that would barely run it), and cried at each barely emotional story in a recreation. And that’s solely the tip of the iceberg.
Tumblr media
For essentially the most half, I used to be by no means essentially the most vocal about my love for video video games because of the concern of judgement and mock. (I used to be known as a Faux Gamer Woman one time too many.) However the love for the medium by no means waned.
Video video games gave me an escape identical to every other media, nevertheless it’s additional particular as a result of it places me on the earth a lot extra simply. It lets me neglect about my issues for some time and units all of my deal with the duty at hand – whether or not or not it’s to punch the residing hell out of somebody or make the precise story decisions (after which most likely fail at each). I’ve even grown as an individual as a result of these video games let me turn out to be another person for some time and expertise issues in a different way of their perspective, which allowed me to study and alter myself for the higher.
I feel it’s simple to see that I wouldn’t be the identical particular person with out video video games and actually, I’m happy with that. It’s introduced me to the place I’m as we speak, and I wouldn’t have it every other method.
Adrian Lai, Chief Editor at IGN Southeast Asia
Tumblr media
Again in 1999, I bear in mind hunching over a pc inside a cyber cafe, taking part in my first ever multiplayer StarCraft match with a bunch of different children. Being the fool that I used to be, I spammed the chat with my go-to cheat codes like ‘black sheep wall’, ‘energy overwhelming’, and ‘meals for thought’. You may think about how flummoxed I used to be once they did not work.
Cyber cafes again within the day have been, effectively, precise cafes that served absolutely anything an everyday institution would. Sizzling meals, chilly drinks, you title it. However patrons did not sit at eating tables; they have been busy mashing their keyboard in entrance of CRT displays with alarm clocks on them.
I did not acknowledge it then, however I beloved video video games. It simply so occurs they have been pirated video video games. In 1997 Malaysia, online game shops have been a dime a dozen. Being the fool that I used to be, I believed my RM5 (US$1.20) copy of Command & Conquer: Pink Alert was the true McCoy.
Tumblr media
I additionally beloved the litany of video video games that have been at my disposal. Positive, what you name retro video games as we speak have been groundbreaking items of expertise for a snivelling, weasel-faced 7-year outdated like myself. I performed Duke Nukem 3D, Xenon and Paperboy on MS-DOS; Time Disaster on the arcades; SNES video games on pirated cartridges and consoles, Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis; Bomberman World on the PlayStation; pirated 16-in-1 Recreation Boy video games; and who might neglect the digital pets in Tamagotchi and Digimon?
To channel my aggressive streak, I’ve clocked over 10,000 hours in DotA and Dota 2, and I presently symbolize my firm at company tournaments for Cellular Legends: Bang Bang. Wanting again, video video games are inadvertently the poison and remedy for my soul however I am not in the least ashamed to say that that is the life.
Dale Bashir, Content material Producer at IGN Southeast Asia
I don’t assume there was a interval in my life the place I wasn’t taking part in video video games. Beginning with emulated SNES video games by means of a pc software program known as Emulator King, video video games have been hand-in-hand with toys and cartoons all through my childhood. Actually, my very first publicity to Ultimate Fantasy was right here, with a pirated Spanish ROM of Ultimate Fantasy VI. Solely years later would I discover out that the “cool robotic recreation” was one of many SNES’s greatest video games.
One in every of my favorite recollections was once I was 5 years outdated. My older brother was 10 on the time and he aced his exams at college. As a reward, my father purchased him a PlayStation, with a plethora of pretend video games to associate with it. The primary recreation we performed was Beast Wars, an admittedly shoddy enviornment combating recreation, nevertheless it was a reasonably good adaptation of the TV present on the time.
Tumblr media
Round this time, we additionally acquired Recreation Boy Colors, although my brother had his begin with the unique Recreation Boy first. That’s once we have been uncovered to Pokemon and have been immediately hooked to your complete phenomenon. On a household journey to Hawaii and Japan, we purchased a bunch of Pokemon merchandise and even tried out Crash Bandicoot Three at Narita airport.
At some point after college, as I used to be hanging out with a cousin at my grandparents’ home, my brother introduced house a replica of Ultimate Fantasy VII, saying it was one of the best online game of all time. Naturally, once we booted the sport up, he proceeded to call Cloud as himself and me as Barret. If solely Vincent was obtainable sooner within the recreation. We then proceeded to Ultimate Fantasy VIII and shortly declared it because the superior recreation, on account of its lifelike graphics. Sadly, we proceeded to skip over Ultimate Fantasy IX, deeming it a step again from what got here earlier than. Oh, how fallacious we have been.
Quickly got here the PS2, which my brother obtained after getting good outcomes for the post-primary college examination, UPSR. A number of the first video games we acquired for the system was a myriad of Sq. Enix video games, together with The Bouncer, Ultimate Fantasy X, and naturally, Kingdom Hearts. We really noticed an uncle play Kingdom Hearts on his PS2 throughout Eid, and it was positively mind-blowing. I then proceeded to complete Kingdom Hearts 2 solely in Japanese as a result of I simply couldn’t look ahead to the English launch.
Tumblr media
The very first console that I owned was the Wii. By then, my older brother stopped taking part in video video games religiously and I used to be promoted to Participant 1. My little brother was sufficiently old to be Participant 2 at this level, and we accomplished quite a few Lego video games on the time. Round this time, I additionally acquired myself an Xbox 360 and a PSP. This was when video video games actually turned a social software amongst associates – we organised after-school Halo matches at my home, and everybody introduced their PSPs to high school to play Kingdom Hearts Delivery By Sleep, Dissidia Ultimate Fantasy, and Monster Hunter.
If it weren’t for my older brother, I wouldn’t have been uncovered to video video games in any respect. And if it weren’t for my youthful brother, I’d most likely have caught to pirating video video games. He was adamant on getting a PS3, which might solely play unique Blu Ray video games. After some time, it dawned on me that having unique video games let me accumulate and show them, giving me a way of delight in proudly owning video games and being a online game fanatic.
In a while, I purchased a Wii U and an Xbox One. Whereas the Wii U might have been seen as Nintendo’s lowest level, I had fond recollections of the video games I performed on it, like Smash four and Breath of the Wild. Even with the Xbox, if it weren’t for my youthful brother convincing me to join the Recreation Cross, I most likely would have gotten much less mileage from that console.
Regardless that video video games have been a giant a part of my life, I by no means for as soon as thought I’d find yourself as a author and reviewer for IGN. I feel I can firmly say that if I have been to return in time and inform five-year-old me that we get to play video video games for a residing sometime, I feel he can be ecstatic for his future.
Amran Rahmat, Video Content material Producer at IGN Southeast Asia
Tumblr media
My earliest reminiscence in terms of video video games can be sitting and watching my older cousins play the Sega Mega Drive. I wasn’t allowed to play with them since I used to be solely four and liable to interrupt the controller (children have to be at the least 5 to play video video games or so they are saying) however I bear in mind clearly being captivated by video games like Vectorman, Avenue Fighter 2, and Deadly Fury. It was positively one thing I hadn’t seen or skilled earlier than and I knew then that I needed to at all times play video games.
Sadly for me, my mother was tremendous strict when it got here to taking part in video games and we grew up with out ever proudly owning a console. However my brothers and I didn’t let that cease us. We used to secretly set up Duke Nukem and Doom on my dad’s PC each time he wasn’t utilizing it (although I’m positive he knew so thanks for not busting us). There was as soon as once we acquired a traditional Recreation Boy nevertheless it was confiscated after a month and by no means seen once more (learn: trashed) as a result of we used to battle my brothers to get extra playtime.
Being the one child in main college with out entry to a console bummed me out, particularly since I couldn’t get any of the gaming references they’d deliver up. So I did what any regular child did and purchased reminiscence playing cards to make use of at different folks’s houses. I particularly made associates with individuals who had consoles simply in order that I might play video games. Not the nicest factor I’ve executed however the factor about video video games is that no matter the truth that I began these friendships with the intention of utilizing their consoles, I ended up forming lasting bonds.
Tumblr media
Loads of my fondest recollections rising up had video video games concerned come what may, which I’m solely realising as I look again to write down this piece. I as soon as broke my proper collarbone after falling down a hill and I bear in mind my brothers accommodating to my damage by solely us working collectively in single participant video games. I managed motion and another person would shoot. It was additionally one of many few methods I’d bond with my a lot older brothers. We’d end video games collectively although we have been at very completely different ranges in life.
This is likely one of the solely mediums that permits you to expertise fantastical journeys with others. I bear in mind the satisfaction of ending Obscure 1 and a couple of with my greatest pal from main college and it might have been utterly completely different had it have simply been us watching a gameplay of it on-line. With the ability to really management characters and what they do to progress the story connects you to the fabric on a a lot deeper stage.
For me, video video games are distinctive in that you simply not solely get to look at cutscenes and see the development of the character you play, however your actions dictate whether or not or not you succeed or fail within the endeavour. Their hardships are yours as effectively. Each time you’d fall off a colossus, you may really really feel it chipping away at your motivation to maintain going and generally you simply have to surrender and relaxation. However the subsequent day comes and also you strive once more, inching nearer to victory, solely to search out out that there are 11 others you’ll want to beat with the intention to end the sport.
Tumblr media
It’s an exhilarating feeling that I might by no means repeat with the rest I did in life. Till I discovered myself making movies. Wrapping up at 3am after a number of days of capturing a video felt as satisfying because it was to lastly beat Satan Jin in Tekken 3. So to search out myself a number of years later with the ability to do the 2 issues I like, I don’t assume I may very well be any extra appreciative of the place my life is now. The one factor that would make this higher is that if somebody have been to provide me a next-gen console which I’d admire rather a lot.

Translation of “4 drabbles - Bonds of a scientist in the tenth dimension”
Good Nina was walking towards the laboratory since she had planned to pay a visit to her uncle when she suddenly heard an explosion and went inside quickly looking for the place where the smoke was coming out. When she arrived she found her uncle shaking himself and using an extinguisher with one of his prototypes shattered. Apparently something went wrong again but he was still smiling as if nothing happened.
“Nina you’re here!” said Good Cortex with enthusiasm and he quickly set everything up to embrace her as if he hasn't seen her in a long time. Good Nina returns the hug, it was good to see him again.

“Be more careful, you’re pushing me” said Evil Coco a bit angry and Evil Crash just snarled.
“Don’t fight my beloved bandicoots, in a flash your wounds will be healed” said Good Cortex while he finished bandaged them and seemed to apply to them a special ointment.
"This is his fault, if he had listened to me we would have finished those ants" she said, avoiding looking at her brother and Evil Crash imitated her. They seemed determined to blame each other.
Good Cortex thinks none of them is right but he decided to give them some space, he knows that’s better for both siblings.

“They appear to be happy” mentioned Good Brio to the scientist with the rocket in his head that was writing notes quietly.
“To me it seems that mutants love to eat Cortex’s food” said Good N. Gin without raising his voice a lot.
Good Cortex has been working hard lately and decided to take a short break to make snacks; the two scientists tried to not pay attention to it but it was not easy to do that.
“Why don’t you rest for a little while?” Said Good Cortex kindly with a plate full of snacks. It’s difficult to refuse him with such food and with that hopeful look of their associate.

Good Uka Uka closes his eyes to feel the fresh air of the night and wonders himself mentally when was the last time he felt the wind with such freedom. When he opens his eyes slowly he sees Good Cortex at his side watching the sky with fondness and he decides to imitate him.
The sky is not as he remembers it and the trees, the water and the creatures also aren't; but it's been a long time, it's reasonable.
"Tonight is pretty quiet" the scientist says softly and the mask agrees with him feeling free of his thoughts.

Goodbye Mordecai and Rigby: this is my tribute illustration to my two favorite and beloved characters of the Regular Show, Mordecai the blue jay bird, and Rigby the Raccoon, I've been watching Regular Show and following its characters for 7 years now, though five Christmas ago, I drew at least only two sketches of Mordecai and Rigby and I posted them on DeviantArt back in the the first time I joined the DeviantArt community before I joined the Tumblr community on October 2014, so I drew Mordecai and Rigby's faces in two styles, I drew Rigby's face like Crash Bandicoot's TwinSanity anatomy while I drew his eyes like Cerebus the Aardvark, and I drew Mordecai's hair style like Boom-Sonic's hair, I rarely drew any fan art of the Regular Show characters, but I've always enjoyed watching the whole show and it's characters from the whole start, but I'm already getting the last new episodes of Regular Show recorded on my DirectTV cable box, and I'm already taking a chance to catch up with my favorite regular show characters on their last 4 episodes. I hope you folks like my tribute illustration of Mordecai and Rigby today?
