Okay, so it's been awhile. My fiance and I got into craig of the creek and have rewatched it multiple times while waiting for it to finish so I decided to make a creeksona....but that was months ago. Her name is Bianca, she is the witchs' apprentice, and she really likes bats. She has my cat, Ember, as her pet with her...she hates me a lot of the time so that is why she looks ready to kill me haha. I took the background from the movie and smudged some colors around and recolored the trees, only sunset picture I could find so just pretend she's standing on something...

This fic meant so much to me the first time I read it because of the way it approaches the codependency that would almost necessarily arise if you actually got together with your life partner at age 10. It has so much beautiful imagery and I believe it's where my obsession with bath time scenes originated. I've read it so many times and the bit where Tweek signs "I love you, rocket ship boyfriend" at the ceiling always makes me cry. In short, it's my favorite fic to take on the "are they or aren't they really dating?" trope in a canon compliant manner. As an aside, I love the way apollos portrays Tweek's speech (a lot of exclamation points. shouty boy), and the ever-present sense of Oh god they belong together ohhhh my god these idiots are soulmates

I'm insane over trope subversion and this is absurdly masterful on that front (specifically, high school fic tropes), as well as in building tension between them. I have so many more things to say (alas, the sleepy-tired) but I think I've read this one at least 8 times in full (and certain scenes way more times than that waaaa). Hello folks! I feel like there aren’t enough opportunities out there for us to celebrate other people’s fics in this fandom, so I thought I’d start up a little South Park-specific ‘Fic Rec Friday’ type of thing, where we can share some wonderful stories with each other. Idk if anyone else is interested in doing this too, I’m honestly just happy rambling to myself every week if that’s what it turns out to be hehe >:]

For the first SP Fic Rec Friday, the prompt is: which fic you could reread a thousand times over, and never get bored of?

For me, that would be "Flipside" by Hollycomb. This is a Stan/Kyle (with background Butters/Kenny) that follows evil Kyle from Spookyfish accidentally swapping places with the not-so-evil Kyle from regular ol' South Park. Needless to say, shenanigans ensue >:)

I first read this story about 6 months into my time in this fandom, and it fundamentally altered my brain chemistry 🥴 I’m a sucker for some sci-fi, so a reality swap AU is perfectly suited for my taste :D The high stakes, the political tension, the identity mix-up, the sweet, sweet dramatic irony, everything about the story makes me lose my bloody mind. I could read this fic every day for the rest of my life, and it would stay just as thrilling with each reread.

I've been wanting to say this for a long time, I do not like Creek. And I really want to talk about this.

Craig and Tweek do not belong together. They were pressured together sure, but have you ever acknowledge Put it Down or Buddha Box? For any Creek shipper, don't ignore this, please.

Tweek was constantly freaking out and Craig didn't want to get involved. And thats fine. However he was pressured into doing it by his peers.

When he went to confront Tweek about it, he seemed very troubled. Craig tried helping Tweek, but the only thing that happened was Tweek yelling at Craig. Craig then snapped because of how pissed off he was.

Simply, Craig does not like to be with Tweek because he deals with this.

I don't know why you can't wrap this around your head; but they are opposites. And sometimes, opposites DON'T attract. Which is easily proven with; Buddha box.

Once Craig figured out there was a way to get away from Tweek, he immediately took the opportunity. He also vented to Cartman how he always felt worried when he was around Tweek's presence. But before he could continue, he got cut off.

But let me repeat this, he always felt worried when he was around Tweek.

Its almost as if, Tweek was Craig's anxiety. Craig was constantly worrying about accidentally doing something wrong and then having to deal with Tweek's BS.

He also mentioned that he really didn't like listening to Tweek's problems.

So topping all of this off, Craig & Tweek were forced, Craig does not like being around Tweek, constant fights, broke up many times, Craig constantly having to worry about Tweek and his problems (Which he doesn't have to deal with them, but he chooses too and he regrets it), and they do not work well together.

Conclusion: They have a Toxic relationship.

Ship what you want of course, I don't care. But try to acknowledge that they're in an abuse relationship and they're clearly not happy.

this thing you did in the animated series concept art hades where all the characters have shared colors in their design like zag and persephone having the same green and persephone and nyx having the same gold. is this something that's helpful in animation? does it have a name? this is the 1st time im seeing and it looks interesting

It's not necessarily an animation thing but yes it is helpful

Character design wise colours are quick and easy way to show that these characters are a group or belong with each other. It can help make the whole cohesive.

It's actually more common than you think, it's just that you don't really notice or it happens so seamlessly you don't notice.

In gurren laggan you can see that they all have a bit of the same red in their colours

It's a little more obvious for others because they're all wearing a uniform so that helps with making a group shot cohesive.

What's a lot more common is using similar colours in groups, like Craig of the Creeks main trio here, which is orange and yellow. It might not be the exact same shade of yellow and oranges but you can see that they look good together and are a group while keeping their individual unique designs.

Even here in Steven Universe, they all share some colours with each other which helps make them look good together.

Second, it's faster to colour in animation lol, I don't need to go around colour picking so much. And in animation when the work is already so arduous and long everything helps.

It's really just character design, or Appeal, if you wanna use an animation principle term.

But it really does help that Jen Zee already did most of the character design work for me lol

What are your headcanons for Omi, Clay, and Raimundo in reference to MW? If you don't get the chance to fit everything into your story, would you consider writing one-shots to go along with it? This is going to get LONG and I don’t want to split it up because internet is bad here so apologies In advance but here we go:

I’ll start writing them and posting them as soon as I finish answering this one. It might take a bit, but you’ll see them up in a few hours or so.

Believe it or not those headcanons help me a lot when it comes to figuring out characters. So thanks for asking! I appreciate it.

If you don't get the chance to fit everything into your story, would you consider writing one-shots to go along with it?

Hell. Yes.

There is SO much I want to do. I want to write about how each Dragon found their element. I want to write ALL OF THE SHIP FUEL for Jack x Jermaine x Timber. I want to write about them having little mini episodic breather adventures in lots of different countries and cities, I’m talking Mumbai, St Petersburg, Venice, Paris, Capetown, Aguascalientes, Melbourne, everywhere! And maybe run ins with villains, for no reason. I want to write about them teaching each other about their strengths, like Jack explaining science to Jermaine and Timber or Timber teaching them two city boys how to fish and forage for food.

Also more moments of Jermaine reigning these two natural disasters in and teaching them how to be actual people. Because that’s always fun.

I want to write little moments between characters in Team Xiaolin during their quest to track down Team Spicer and I want to write moments between Seon Yeong, Rai and Kim as a trio. I want to write post-MW! Fics between characters and how they learn and grow after the events of the story - especially Kimiko and Timber as total opposites and the only two girls on the team. And I really want to write a ‘beach episode’ where Jack, Jermaine and Timber just end up warping to a tropical area and just have fun for once.

I want to write solo fics about Jack and Jermaine and their personal struggles as they grow up with their own troubles prior to MW!

And a part of me really, really wants to start posting a mini fic about Timber’s life in Silent Harbor, to show her slow, sad descent into the troubled teen she has now become and as a build up to the events of Chapter 6 of MW! where she runs into Jack for the first time. It would be SO spoiler-y though.

There’s a lot that might not fit in MW! And I would definitely write a bunch of mini stories. I don’t know who would be interested in reading all of that, but I might do it just to brainstorm ideas and explore character interactions.

What was your inspiration for writing MW, aside from wanting a Jack Spicer redemption?

I’ve been wanting to tell a XS story since I was a kid! This show was my everything! The characters were my everything. And even now it holds a special place in my heart. So the drive to write something for this fandom has always been there.

As for MW! itself....I’ve always had a fondness for Jack Spicer. I’ve always wanted him to find some semblance of happiness and have someone there so he’s not alone. And a long time ago, that someone became Timber.

But Timber wasn’t who she is today. She was Latina, and Californian, and a bubbly pink ray of sunshine and positivity. And Jack had a crush on her and she was his bestie and she was essentially an overly competent sidekick for him and then Clay had a crush on her and she was the Dragon Of Wood and Jack was the Dragon Of Metal and he was going to sell his soul to the Heylin side to finally earn Chase’s approval and she was gonna save him from himself...well, you get the picture. And I liked her a lot, and I still miss that version of her sometimes, but...she wasn’t interesting enough. And there wasn’t really a story there. At least not much of one. What was there could have been interesting on its own, but it was pretty self indulgent and I don’t think anyone besides me would have enjoyed reading it. And that’s no fun.

Then I had the idea to somehow bind Timber, an innocent civilian girl, to Jack through magic by having her make the idiotic mistake of betting herself in a Showdown with him over a Wu that was hers and then lose, and then essentially being dragged along on all of his adventures and slowly becoming friends with him while hilarity ensues. Then I had the idea to make a game breaking Wu that just...caused trouble. And the story then became about Jack accidentally dragging a civilian girl along on a warpy portally adventure with that Wu and run into all these villains as they become friends.

But when I did this, it didn’t feel balanced. I had someone on the Heylin side and I had someone who was Neutral. So then I needed someone as a buffer between Jack and Timber so they didn’t kill each other and to represent the side of Good aka someone who was Xiaolin.

And then Jermaine came along!

And as I developed the story more, I realized I wanted to tell something serious, and have all the characters grow and play off of each other and talk about the XS universe and answer questions and give everyone this big, long journey and great trial and give Jack actual character development and actual friends/love interests and have someone from Chinese Mythology be the Xiaolin’s ultimate adversary and Jack’s final test of character. And along the way, MW! was born.

And I’m really grateful for that.

What's your writing process?

Usually first I write up a few ideas of what I want to happen, like the general flow of the chapter. Then I make a chronological skeleton of dialogue, and I tweak it until I’m satisfied. Then I write the rest of the stuff like actions and descriptions.

One of my flaws is being redundant. Another is being overly wordy. So after I write it all out, I try to trim it down and tweak it as best as I can until these flaws are no more (I sometimes skip stuff) and then I just play around with the chapter until it feels right. It has to strike an emotional chord with me and get me excited to write it before I publish it. If I don’t feel that spark, it doesn’t go up.

I had a few people in the fandom volunteer to be beta readers, but my chapters are so long...so right now it’s just a couple of my closest friends who are looking at it, the main one being my friend CVD, who also wants to be a writer. She’s got a good eye for what does and doesn’t belong and I’m forever thankful. My other two, Trinket and Papillion, look over it and help let me know how they feel about things so they’re also a big help. So shoutout to you guys!

And then after all that noise, my stuff goes up.

However, my older chapters could use one final spellcheck and revision so I’ll eventually go back and polish those up a bit. Typos man. Typos....

A lot of times I’ll also take breaks to do some research and find inspiration music. Honestly there are days where I can’t figure a character or a scene out until I find JUST the right song for inspiration. And since a lot of characters in my fic are from a different country and cultural background than mine, I’ll do plenty of research to try to stay true to who they are. I’m doing a lot of research on the Bedouin tribe and its history and looking for a lot of pretty Middle Eastern music right now, for example. YouTube is a great resource for these things! How long have you been writing?

Since forever! I’ve always been making up stories in my head! And they’d get elaborate too! I’ve built so many worlds and characters just by playing around as a little kid, I can’t even begin where to start talking about them all. As I grew, I started to write them down and now I want to get serious about it! Besides Monkey Wrench!, I want to write a fanfic for the Ducktales 2017 fandom and the Black Butler fandom, and I have two original novel ideas I want to write out and get published. It’s my dream to make stories that other people love and that inspire others to learn, write, make stuff and have adventures and stuff. Literally my dream is to make stories that get a buttload Of fanart and cosplays and fanfic and just...move the world for the better somehow. That is my highest goal rn. Being a published and famous author.

Are there other fandoms you're into besides XS?

Hell yeah! Although I do tend to have periods where I hyper fixate on one at a time. Besides Xiaolin Showdown, I also like Gravity Falls, Storm Hawks, Steven Universe, Star vs The Forces Of Evil, and Ducktales 2017. There were a lot more in the past, such as Teen Titans, King Falls AM, The Boondocks, and Samurai Champloo, but I haven’t been very active in those fandoms as of late.

I really need to get into Tangled: The Series, OK KO, Victor and Valentino, and Craig Of the Creek. They all look phenomenal, I just don’t have time to get into them all yet.

In grade 7, Craig was planning to ask Tweek out, only to find out that the love of his life moved unexpectedly to another town. Worst of all? He didn't even have Tweek's phone number. Hurray for a now-dead love life. But now Kenny McCormick opens up a hole in his heart, just by asking him how it was going with Tweek. Goddamnit things are never simple.

On Tweek's end, nothing goes well for him. After moving to another town just so that his parents could open up a coffee shop of all things, he realizes that he left the one person he had feelings for back in his hometown and that he forgot to even tell Craig Tucker what was going on. Garth Fitzgerald is a hunter. He went to college and dental school, becoming a dentist for awhile until he got his first case in which he claims he killed the Tooth Fairy. In the past, he used Bobby as a resource, and although he generally works alone, he has teamed up with the Winchesters on three occasions, and Bobby on at least one. He also works with Mr Fizzles, who is good at encouraging children to talk about traumatic experiences.

Garth drives a Ford Ranchero. Like Sam and Dean, he has established at least one safe house--in Garth's case a safe-houseboat--where he or others can hide out. At some point after Bobby's death and Sam and Dean's disappearance, Garth takes over Bobby's old job of answering hunter calls and giving hunters advice about different monsters. Like Bobby, he has a number of different phones, but instead of landlines, Garth uses cell phones that all have different ringtones. Garth also takes to saying "Idjit" and "balls," two words that Bobby used frequently when frustrated, and wearing one of Bobby's hats. He tells Sam and Dean that Bobby left it in the back of his car after a rugaru hunt they went on together.

Once he puts a spirit to rest, he says that the spirit has been "Garthed." Garth likes sweet things, comics, gets drunk easily, and appreciates a hot tub after a hard day's hunting. He gives good hugs. At some time after Sam and Dean first meet him, he begins a relationship with a "special lady" who knows about his hunting and also has twins. It is unclear if they are still together.

Garth also likes late '80s, early '90s hip-hop. When he drives, he plays the song "Poison" by Bel Biv Devo. When he is acting as a reference for other hunters his various cell phones play: "Jump" by Kriss Kross, "Wild Wild West" by Kool Moe Dee and "Hammer Time" by M.C. Hammer.

Garth has been charged with protecting Kevin and Linda Tran. In 8.10 Torn and Frayed, we see that Kevin is still staying on Garth's houseboat, named "Fizzles' Folly" in Warsaw, Missouri.

As part of his role as the "new Bobby," Garth has taken to tracking hunters via the GPS in their cell phones and then calling them with cases when there is one in the area they are in. Sam and Dean are disturbed by this, but Dean finds that it is a very Bobby thing for Garth to be doing.

Garth calls Bobby for some help on a case he's working, and Bobby tells him that it doesn't sound like a vampire. He advises him to call the FBI with a tip, so Garth hangs up and calls the FBI... Agent Willis, that is. When Bobby realizes that Garth has called him instead of the actual FBI, he is exasperated. We only hear Bobby's side of the conversation.

Bobby: Yeah, Garth, what do you got? ... Never heard of a vamp doin' that. It doesn't sound like our kind of thing. Better drop a dime to the FBI.

Bobby hangs up the phone. Another phone labeled FBI Tom Willis rings.

Bobby: Willis, FBI. ... No, Garth, not me the FBI. The real FBI! How are you still alive?

7.08 Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!

Bobby sends Garth to Pike Creek, Delaware to help Dean work on a case, as Sam is under a spell by Becky Rosen and Bobby is busy with a major vampire nest in Oregon. Dean shows him a newspaper article about people who have had good things happen to them recently are now mysteriously dying in freak accidents. Posing as press, they head to an insurance company where a man was just promoted from junior salesman to CEO, thinking he might be the next victim in their case. When Dean and Garth arrive at the insurance company, Sam and Becky are already leaving. Sam tells Dean that the new CEO Craig is clean, but Dean and Garth still question him. Dean and Garth become sure that the man's wife is the one behind his sudden success, so they confront her, but she refuses to admit to anything, that is, until they save her from being killed by a falling chandelier. Afterwards, she admits to making a deal with a demon. Garth tells her that she needs to get out of town for a few days while he and Dean figure things out. They break into Becky's apartment, and Garth sees Becky's last tweet on her laptop: "Going on romantic trip with hubster!!!" Later, after Sam convinces Becky to help them trap Guy, the crossroads demon behind all of the recent deaths, Garth uses blueberry vodka to draw a devil's trap which Becky then lights on fire to trap the demon. He and the other hunters then get attacked by Guy's accomplice, Jackson who quickly knocks Garth out, but Becky manages to kill him. Crowley appears and takes Guy away to punish him for breaking deals. Afterwards, Garth wakes up wondering what he missed, annoying Dean. Back at Becky's apartment, Sam and Becky sign the annulment papers necessary to dissolve their marriage while Dean and Garth watch. Dean tells Garth that he "doesn't suck," and Garth gives him an uncomfortable hug before leaving in his car.

7.18 Party On, Garth

The ghost of Jenny Greentree is originally suspected to be behind the death of Trevor McAnn in Junction City, Kansas and Garth salts and burns her corpse. However, when the boy's brother Ray dies, Garth calls Dean and Sam for help in finding the real culprit. They learn it is a spirit known as a "shojo." Garth, with help from Mr Fizzles, eventually figures out who the shojo's next victim is and tries to save him, but is once again knocked out. Dean, with some help from Bobby's ghost, kills the shojo. As they part ways again, Garth hugs Dean for the 2nd time and even gives Sam a hug too, before driving off, but not before he remarks that he likes their car, an AMC Pacer.

After hearing about Mary Lew crushing her husband's head with his own car, Garth heads to Kearny, Missouri where he poses as a Texas Ranger even though its Missouri - he claims that wearing a suit makes him look like a funeral director.

Garth has taken Bobby's place among the hunting community as Sam and Dean disappeared for a year and someone needed to. Garth has taken to carrying multiple cell phones to presumably act as cover for other hunters like Bobby did, gives out information that hunters need, wears one of Bobby's hats and uses some of his old catchphrases though not correctly usually. Garth is excited to see Sam and Dean and hugs them, though Dean is not amused that he is "the new Bobby" and the way that he acts like him.

Together they investigate the case, discovering that that Kate wrote the name Allcot on the wall in blood and that there is green goo. That night at a bar, Garth asks Dean where he was and Dean tells him Purgatory but brushes off questions of how he got out. Investigating the name, they discover it is an old girlfriend of the dead husband, but before they can go interrogate her, her son Scott killed someone and wrote the name Sussex on the wall in his blood leaving behind green goo as well. Dean and Garth interrogate the ex-girlfriend, deciding that she wasn't having an affair with the husband and that the wife is apparently holding a grudge for her husband hooking up with his ex on prom night. While Sam investigates, Garth and Dean go through Bobby's Journal for information on what they might be dealing with. Garth points out the noticeable tension between Sam and Dean and explains why he has taken over Bobby's role, saying that Bobby belonged to everyone, not just Sam and Dean, and is visibly upset while taking about Bobby.

Garth finds in Bobby's journal that a ghost that leaves behind green goo is a spectre and that it is apparently woken up when its grave is disturbed. Garth finds out that the grave of the Confederate version of the Unknown Soldier has been disturbed, though apparently nothing was taken and that night, he, Sam and Dean go to salt and burn the soldier's bones, figuring that that should put the ghost to rest as it does with all other ghosts. Garth suggests they say something before burning the bones, but Dean just says "we win" before setting them on fire. However, a deputy kills his boss and after finding more green goo at the scene, they realize the ghost isn't gone. After learning that the next person possessed headed for the hospital, Dean goes there to stop them while Sam and Garth go to the library to try to find out who the Unknown Soldier is. They learn a theory that it is Vance Collins, a Confederate soldier who was killed by his Union soldier brother. They realize that Vance had an Indian Head Penny that was stolen.

Sam and Garth rush off to let Dean know after he doesn't answer his phone, only to find him possessed by Vance and waiting to kill Sam. Garth tries to defuse the situation, believing that Dean won't kill him as he is not angry at him. When that fails, Garth punches Dean, causing him to drop the penny which Garth picks up, but is unaffected by Vance.

Garth is able to melt down the penny, putting Vance to rest though he tells Dean he had a hard time doing it. Garth explains to Dean that he has learned to let all of his grudges go and was thus unaffected by the spirit and Dean puts Bobby's hat back on his head, finally accepting Garth's new role. Garth drives off, giving advice to another hunter to run after learning he is being chased by a wendigo without a flare gun or flamethrower to kill it with.

8.07 A Little Slice of Kevin

After rescuing Kevin Tran and his mother Linda from Crowley, Sam and Dean call Garth to look after them.
